When they arrived, they looked like a 10 year old shoved a bunch of mismatched roses into a vase and called it an "arrangement". That sort of thing would be endearing from your own child, not from a professional florist. Also, a bunch of the rose petals were already brown on arrival. I really like the ample selection of plants of all kinds. I've been shopping here for over a decade and still return in spite of a long distance because of their selection. I am aware of their very slim return policy but over the course of the years I only had one instance of a shrub not making it. As a husband who gets constantly dragged to garden centers by his horticulturally ambitious wife, I've found Peche's to be one of the most tolerable. OK, sometimes I even enjoy it...slightly. Their prices are good and fair, and plants are visibly healthier than most. Customer service is friendly and knowledgeable (unlike the big chains like Home Depot). They also have their plants grouped in helpful categories, for those creating gardens (grasses, annuals, perennials), not that I'd know what any of that stuff means. Allow the florists to be creative! That is my best advice. I have called Pesche's for the past few years to order flowers to be delivered to my mom in Des Plaines. I spoke with Patty on the phone this past December about a Christmas arrangement. When asked what I wanted I said I was not really sure and asked her recommendation. She asked my price range and said she'll ask the florists design something Special. She said although the items seen online are beautiful, they were somewhat limiting to the florist's creative ability. I also asked if she could ask the delivery driver to call ahead so my mom would expect someone at the door. I trusted Patty and the team. Mom said the arrangement was "gorgeous." She couldn't say enough about how stunning it was. She also said the deliverywoman offered to bring the flowers inside, which she did, and unwrapped them, as well. All of this while remaining covid-safe. 5-star experience on every level! Well done! read more

If you use a Garmin like I do, be prepared to turn the corner onto River Road to enter Pesche. It's an enormous nursery with several greenhouses, outdoor lot full of plants, and a multi-room indoor store to which is attached another greenhouse/room. The size was almost overwhelming, but by this point in the season, most of their plants are either gone or have been moved. The staff was extremely helpful and nice, from giving me and my sad purple thumb directions on what plants to plant when and where and how, to pointing me in the direction of the tropical plant section which had been moved to the greenhouse-room. They appear to have everything from the planters to benches to fertilizer, and from indoor tree-plants to cacti. Don't be shy to grab someone and ask for help! Overall: While the accoutrements seemed expensive, they have good sales going now on 99 cent plants to %'s off their pots or discounts on all perennials. I always end up walking people around here when I bring them home. This place is nearly as big as some other city's botanical gardens, and they have a big koi pond and outdoor garden center. Buyer beware. Bought a fig tree and was too big for my space, tried to return it within 24hrs and they denied it- even for store credit. Manager even asked me how long ago did i buy it? - but says no anyway-- why ask that question anyway? Theres many places that sell better plants at better prices. Will never comeback again. My family has gone to Pesche's for at least the last 15 years. Their nursery is great with excellent variety and a wonderful staff that really goes the extra mile to help. When I moved out and got married I started coming here too, although being an apartment dweller I now come for houseplants and decor. Their houseplants are excellent and they have home accents for every style and budget. This last year we added some beautiful ornaments to our Christmas tree from the garden gift shop. Stumbled on this place while looking for a different garden center, and am glad I stopped. I had a pretty weird list of plants that i've had bad luck finding at my regular places. But Pesche's had much of what I wanted, and a few things that i didn't know about but were better than my initial ideas. So yea, HUGE selection. Only minus is there's no shade perennial section. Really nice selection of mixed fall planters at a good price. Arrangements are creative, with burgundy grasses, bright mums, ornamental kales and cabbages. Pesche's stocks a good selection of both indoor and outdoor pots. I lucked out on this visit -- all the pretty outdoor ceramic pots 50% off. I was also happy to find grass seed for fall overseeding. Checkout was fast and a guy walked my cart to my car and loaded everything. Great service overall. At least three people asked if I needed help while I was shopping, offered information and answered questions. read more

I had a special request for funeral flowers: I wanted them to include Birds of Paradise. Pesche's Flowers was the only shop that I called that had them available. I was so happy to work with Maria after contacting many other flower shops. She was very responsive, clear, and consice, and she was able to answer all of my questions. I called other local flower places as well as FTD (abosolutely aweful customer service). It was just so nice to work with someone like Maria! The flowers for the funeral were unique and absolutely beautiful. They had tiger lillies, maroon gerber daisies, and other flowers. I was so happy to see that they could provide this beautiful creation for the grieving. However, when I noticed typos on the note, I was somwhat upset. There were misspellings as well as bad grammer. I contacted Maria again and showed her the photo of the note. She apologized and gave me some credit back. What excellent customer service! A tip for future orders: keep your notes short and simple. I think some of the folks who work at Pesche's may not be the most profficient in English. I would recomend Pesche's, and I look forward to getting flowers from them again. read more

Stopped by here to get some flowers and indoor plants. This place is super overpriced. Flowers that cost $6 in Jewell cost $18 here for a small bouquet. Disappointing. Not a big selection either. Indoor plant selection is not bad but definitely not as many unique or modern options although it depends on the season. On the weekend this place is pure insanity. No parking, police coordinates traffic. They have a. If outdoor setup but the parking lot cannot accommodate the traffic. Just not a good layout. The store itself is relatively small and doesn't have as many products. The decor items like fake plants are extremely overpriced. 1 glitter stem is $18 WHAT??? If you ever happen to be driving up river road & rand in the spring, and get in a traffic jam, it's most likely Peche's customers buying this year's garden plants. This place gets packed.. they have traffic directors to help with the congestion. Pesches is a bit of a drive for us. And one day while I was in the area I decided to stop in. And we have gone every year since. I was in AWE. The selection, the quality, the SELECTION. Ohh my goodness. It is just amazing. We plant a large vegtable garden, as well as have many hanging flower baskets. Depending on where and when you find your garden supplies, there can be limited selection. But Pesche's is stocked through the planting season, and the quality of these plants justifies the price. Downside, is the crowd, but you can always go during the week... would not recommend the weekend during the spring! read more

An amazing selection and huge place to just walk around and drool. I especially liked how they listed who ("Chris Peske") had planted the seedling. We were approached in pretty much every area about finding things or needing help - everyone was very friendly. No idea if they're knowledgeable, but when I noted that they got some of their plants from Monrovia Nursery (which I had been to in SoCal when I was growing up) the person explained that they got stock from all over: Michigan, Ohio, East Coast and Monrovia. They do seem to know their stuff! We ended up buying birdseed for a feeder we had bought earlier at Wild Birds Unlimited - they even had the squirrel-proof feeders. Maybe even at a lower price! I have been shopping at Pesche's for over 30 years and have not had an issue until this year. We purchased a Yew in May and had our landscaper plant the bush with the suggested fertilizer offered by their nursery employee. The bush did well until August when we noticed a bit of browning. Today, it is completely dead and I call Pesche's to see if they had a replacement and to get my 50% guarantee applied to the new bush. I explained to an employee who answered the phone that I didn't have the cash register receipt only my credit card receipt. She said someone in the office could look up my sale and that wouldn't be a problem. Sadly, the office employee she connected me to told me there was nothing she could do because the warranty I was given states I needed a receipt. I explained that I didn't get a warranty and she said that was because they discontinued the warrant this past June. I was total confused by that statement! I tried to explain that we purchased the bush in May, but that didn't matter and that when we purchased the bush, we were never informed that there wasn't a guarantee (I have purchased many bushes over the last 30 years and there was always a 50% return guarantee unless they planted it and then it was 100%). We paid over $200.00 for the bush and I have a credit card statement that shows that information. The bush died within 3 months of planting. What I take from all this is that Pesche's has enough customers and doesn't need my business. My landscaper will did up the Yew tomorrow and I will drive to their competitor and buy a new Yew. And, my daughter's wedding is this winter and I will be contracting all the floral arrangements with another florist who will guarantee their product. read more

I called to see if they offer curbside pickup given we are in a Pandemic and I'm in the vulnerable population. They do, but they have all these stipulations. They charge a 15% fee for curbside pickup. They do do curbside pick up on weekends. They have a 3 day processing time and they don't allow for veggies and herbs. I was annoyed by the fact they charge a fee for keeping people safe during this time. Three days to process an order? I needed only a few items. With all these stipulations, it made me go down the street to Lurvey's where they were happy to accommodate me. read more

I live in Wisconsin and called to order a beautiful smelling wrist corsage for my blind, 90 year old mother's birthday, who lives in an assistive living community there. I wanted to send flowers to a friend in Des Plaines (I am on the East Coast) I spent some time looking around their site, and finally found the arrangement I wanted to send. I called, and ordered the flowers. I explained EXACTLY which one I wanted. My friend sent me a pic when she got them and they look NOTHING alike. The flowers they sent looked like they were about to die. And no ROSES. It looked cheap and not very pretty at all. So I called and complained. The woman was kind of rude. Not apologetic at all- but she did say they would send a replacement out right away- after I ASKED. Their customer service leaves much to be desired. I am not impressed. Not at all. The replacement that was sent was still not as nice as the picture. The deliveryman was rude to my friend, made her feel uncomfortable AND took away the other flowers. Which I think they should have let her KEEP because it was THEIR mistake. And- how dare he be rude to her? It wasn't HER fault. This was supposed to be a gift to her. So I'm am very angry. I wanted it to be a "Yay! A surprise!" and instead it ended up being kind of a hassle for my friend. BIG FAT FAIL. read more

I wen't there for the first time in a long time. I had called the prior week and asked if they carried a certain soil, I was informed they didn't I was almost disappointed, key word almost when they told me they now carry promix. I was so super excited I've done research in the soil and have been hoping we would get it here. I was told to ask for ken or Mario, so when I got there I asked one of the ladies working the register if he was there and they told me where he would be and called him over the load speaker for me. Mario came out I told him what I was looking for for and what im growing he took me to the different ones they carried. We had to find out the price so he went and got it for me as I did some more shopping the price was great and I decided to go big or go home lol big bag of soil that is. I'm disabled and without even asking he said that he would help me get it in my car after I paid which was beyond helpful. He also informed me it's very heavy and to get help moving it. Luckily I have this big cart at my house and I'm glad he let me know ahead of time because I did need help getting in the cart but worth every penny. Let's first say that Chris's business is huge and the volume he does is insane. My father use to wholesale him Christmas Trees and well aware of the season! With that as a factor, he and his staff is absolutely lacking morally as a business. I came in to buy a flocked Christmas tree and support a company that did business with my late father. Mind you, price is/was NOT an issue. I ordered it and supplied my own lights. They are a certain color to blend in with a motif. Where I was insulted is that they charge $20 per strand including lights. I too understand labor and material but I simply asked if you use my lights do I get the lights you don't use? Her answer was simply NO! I explained how can you charge me the same when you are not using your own supply? Her answer, "don't shoot the messenger!" I live so close to Pesche's, I can walk there & back, even carrying home a "haul" I couldn't resist. However, I rarely go there any more, regardless of how I got there, for a few reasons..., [1] the prices are way above & beyond the norm--what makes it worse is that Pesche's DOES NOT ACCEPT RETURNS!! Yes, customers in ANY type of business can be obnoxious & destructive idiots, think they're entitled, wanting something for nothing and will lie to get it, and are often 'up to no good'. But those that don't fit into those categories, especially the locals who are also "regulars," are very turned off by the Policy so have either stopped going, or are VERY hesitant and leery when they do. I would go for supplies until I realized I can shop online for most--with the exception of Pesche's potting soil, which, IMO is excellent and the price is very reasonable (probably because I buy the VERY large bags), & Bonide Systemic Insecticide Granuals--They're the absolute best I've ever tried, not just in quality but they also do not send up some God-awful smell like others have whenever you water. Seriously, I've had 100 plants in my house at any given time for the last 40+ years--when Pesche's told me about it years ago, it soon became the only one I'll use! I usually take my sun-loving plants outside from spring for as long as weather permits so I use this before I take them out and before I bring them in. It's not necessarily cheap but if you care about your plants, it's a must-have product and well worth it! [2] I have found insects in the indoor house plants more than once or twice, even after I thought I thoroughly examined them prior to purchasing them! IMO once is too many! When I complained they blamed it on the customers. Yeh, right-I don't think so. Now I will only buy the small "cuttings" size--I think they're $2.99. Those seem to be a safer alternative. read more
