Before I rave about this Lafayette Pet Food Express, I want to say that I have received excellent service at EVERY Pet Food Express location I have ever patronized. This location, however, was the place of my most recent visit and I can't get them out of my mind; so I decided they should get a YELP this morning! I take a friend shopping there for her Grand Dog occasionally and yesterday we stopped in. My friend has some physical challenges and the staff is always so accommodating; yesterday was no different. They just go out of their way to help and suggest alternatives if they are out of something or don't stock a particular brand of something. I know that's what a business should be doing, but this store goes above and beyond, every single time I have been there. I especially love how they asked my friend about her dog yesterday. All-too-often, I've experienced that folks with physical challenges are treated as though they are invisible by people. NOT SO by the staff at this establishment. That meant a lot to me and I know it meant a lot to my friend. We left there feeling really good and valued as customers and as people. I can't thank these folks enough for their time and attention. Pet Food Express is a great pet store. All of the products are carefully selected so that they are safe for our animals. No China products will be found here. The staff is so helpful and always kind. Last night my husband and I arrived with our two dogs 10 minutes after closing. Julian saw that we were at the door and he and the store manager Chris let us in . I was so surprised that they were willing to help us after hours with such a cheerful attitude. This is obviously a happy place to work and a great company. The employees are happy to be there and happy to help you out - always. I will continue to shop here for the great products and great staff! read more

The local Lafayette Pet Food Express is awesome! They are always so helpful - especially with my thrice weekly visits to get live crickets for my baby beardered dragon (a pretty gross chore). On my last visit Justin (JT) went above and beyond when I accidentally forgot my receipt and recognizing I am a regular took my word regarding an item I was supposed to have got free (their buy 3 get one free program) on my last visit. It is really refreshing to see that kind of service these days - unfortuntely it is not common. My favorite part is that JT told me he loved working for the company, they genuinely care about their employees and this is the best job he has ever had - again very refreshing! Best store for customer service, friendly knowledgeable help. My dog has siezures and they seem to be amplified when I change her food. Recently the food she eats has been having multiple production problems and running out. Twice they have found a way to save the day. They called their stores and competitors stores and they kept in contact with me. A special shout out to Katie, and Sophia with help from Ryan & Chris for going way way way above and beyond to help me & Molly. They work as a team and seem to all love their jobs and their clients. The customer service at this store is excellent! We were on our way on vacation when we realized we were out of the specialty pet food for our dog. If he eats anything else he gets a terrible skin and ear infection that is very expensive to cure. We called at closing time and they stayed open until we arrived from our 10 minute drive. Hey! So my BF and I just got our first cat, and we went to this Petfood express to purchase all the necessities before bringing our Starbucks home. We asked Tiffany if she would be so kind and to help us shop for Starbucks since we've never had a cat before, and she was more than happy to help! For each item we needed she presented a few suitable options ranging in price, so we were able to stick to budget. I loved the fact that she wasn't just trying to sell us the most expensive item in each category. Definitely a no pressure situation, which made us comfortable enough to get everything we needed, and not feel like we were being rushed. All through the store, Tiffany was knowledgeable in all the information we needed, and was obviously an employee there out of the love for the job. A+ will definitely be back to shop here again, and we'll probably have Starbucks in tow! We'd love to finally show her off and give the whole store an update! I have a sick cat who is not eating as much as he should and I needed some advice on foods and supplements to help get him more interested in food. Arielle is fabulous! She really listened to what foods I have tried and what my cat might eat. I was really impressed with her knowledge of the ingredients of the canned and raw foods, toppers and vitamin supplements. They go out of their to give you excellent service and even take time to show you products that may help with training your pet. I appreciate them taking the time to educate me about my puppy. Of all the pet stores in Lamorinda, this is the place to go. The prices are great and they always have great deals. All the staff are friendly and have a lot of knowledge about all kinds of pets and brands. I wash my dog at the dog wash station weekly and they always keep it clean and tidy. I would not go anywhere else! read more

My experience with this location was great! I was in need of some new cat litter since my cat wasn't a fan of the last brand I had got due to the smell. One of the staff members actually opened up a bag to test it and see if the litter had an odor and then gave me the bag to try out at home for free! I couldn't believe it, I didn't think you could get anything for free anymore these days, I was so pleased with the service she provided (wish I could remember her name to give her credit where credit is due). read more

I got my first puppy last July (2009) after moving to Lafayette just a month earlier. Pet Food Express is just down the street from me. It turns out I like to spoil my puppy, so I am in the pet store all the time. The staff at this location is unbeatable in customer service. They are happy, helpful, and love to see your dog like its family. They have been there for me when I have had sick puppies, needed advice on good toys for my now big german shepherd who can destroy anything, and when there was an accident while cutting a nail on my newest puppy. I rushed my bleeding pup to the store and one of my regular staff helped me out ASAP by putting some powder on his nail to stop the bleeding. There is a group of 6 staffers that i particularly love to see when I go there. They love my dogs and give them lots of attention. As a former service industry worker, I really appreciate the wonderful job they do in making it feel good to frequent the store. In fact, a friend asked why i shopped at Pet Food Express since it was so much higher priced than others, and I said because I love it there and I love my regular workers. And seeing as I've never been to any other pet stores, I wouldn't know anyway. They do everything for me and I really appreciate it! Great Job everyone... read more

While this place is well stocked and super convenient for me. (Parking is definitely not convenient) the only reason I'm giving two stars is that this place needs a class (or several!) in costumer service! There was only one checker when I walked up to the checkout with my dog food. It was several cases of canned wet food so there's no need to mention how heavy that was! There was a gentleman and his daughter in front of me getting dog tags made. I understand how time consuming that can be so I definitely didn't mind waiting as there was no one else to help out and I was next in line. But when the man behind the counter called for extra help, and I assumed that I would be helped next. Instead the woman checker who came to help asked a woman on the other side had been helped and proceeded to bring her up. I just stood there as nobody even acknowledge that I was next in line. The man helping with the dog tags knew that I was next but didn't bother mentioning that I should be helped next. As I grew a little more impatient, the other checker started getting a line on her side and proceeded to help another woman. Finally, I had to ask if I should go to the other side to be helped. Which I did. I'm usually pretty patient because I have been in customer service for many years. But I am always on the lookout for those who are rightfully next in line. We all have busy schedules and need to get on to the next thing. I don't appreciate standing there with my thumb up my ass waiting to be checked out for dog food. read more
