I contacted Dr Ashley Emanuele on a Sunday after seeing that my beloved rescue dog Raegan who was diagnosed with kidney failure, took a turn for the worse. She answered her phone right away (On.A.Sunday). I had Dr Emanuele on speaker so that the rest of my family could hear her explain the process of euthanasia, and after having spoken to other vets, we knew Dr Emanuele was "the one". She seemed so warm & so compassionate. She offered her condolences & explained in detail all the aftercare services she provided. When Dr Emanuele arrived the following morning, she arrived on schedule & with such care & compassion, she again described the peaceful process of euthanasia. It was so hard to say goodbye to a member of our family. She saw how sad & upset we were, & made us feel confident that the decision our family has made was in the best interest & love for our dog. So, there was no way I was going to have her spend her last few hours inside a place she despised. Dr. Karen Twyning, the founder and the certified vet that comes to your home was AMAZING! Compassionate, thoughtful, respectful.....She made the whole experience not as difficult and sent a sympathy card days later....the ONLY sympathy card I received. Not recommended. While the actual euthanasia procedure went well, the events leading up to the appointment and then never receiving my pet's paw print or hair locket were terrible. My appointment was scheduled for 8pm. At 8pm, I received a call from Dr. Sarah saying that she was running late and wouldn't be able to make it for another 2 hours. She apologized but this put me in a very difficult position. She said she tried to find another vet that could come out but was not able to location one. Ten p.m. or later was really too late. I had to go to work at 5:30am the next day. I decided to postpone the appointment until 6pm the next day. This added an incredible amount of stress for my family and me. Dr. Sara was coming from Chicago. I live in Villa Park. I would have thought that the company would have a vet closer to my home than Chicago. I was concerned about how long it would take her to drive to Villa Park during rush hour. The next day I called her office at about 4pm to make sure she would be on time. I spoke to her husband and he said that she was 'finishing up a surgery and would be done in 10 minutes.' I did not have confidence that that would happen. I called several more times and she called me when she was leaving her office. She arrived at 7:10pm for our 6pm appointment. She was very apologetic but that didn't change the situation. The procedure went well. I am glad that my 17 yr. old dog did not have to be taken into our local veterinary office. Dr. Sarah said she would mail me my pet's paw print and hair locket in about a week. Never happened. read more

Dr. Holly Pietschmann is our angel. After months of struggling with the devastating, fatal FIP virus, our beloved baby kitten Kubrick passed peacefully in our arms with the help of Dr. Holly. Dr. Holly was warm, caring, and so gentle, and came at last minute's notice. She spent a long time talking with us and helping us say goodbye to our kitten. Dr. Holly truly, truly cares about you and your pet - you can just feel it. She was so incredibly patient with us, and let us take our time soaking up every last cuddle. She knew just what to say and was so nurturing during the worst moment of our lives... We still keep repeating the words she said because they are so helpful to us in our grief. She helped him pass on the kitchen floor in our tiny apartment - in his favorite spot that we believe he had chose to pass in (he hadn't moved much from there his last week). I felt like we were able to honor and respect him by doing this. Due to his tiny size, weight loss, and fragility, it was quite difficult for all vets to administer any type of injection his last week - his veins were so weak. But Dr. Holly handled this challenge with grace and compassion. We were able to cuddle our angel in his last, sleepy moments and then place him in a basket and cover him with a blanket. The whole experience was so beautiful and filled with love - so much better than a rushed, traumatic hospital procedure. We are so grateful for Dr. Holly and all the care she showed us on the most heartbreaking day Thank you so, so much for giving us something priceless - helping our very, very sick kitten baby cross the rainbow bridge without fear, trauma, or pain. It was such a relief to not have to see him suffer in a cold office environment or by the unthinkably cruel death that FIP brings. She genuinely helped us get closure and healing. the other day I called to schedule services to have my elderly mother's dog euthanized. I spoke for 8 mins to Dr Aaron Vigil explaining what was needed gave him all my and my mother's contact information and he had told me he could do the euthanasia appointment the following evening (yesterday-January 8th) at 8-830pm because he was coming from Naperville. Yesterday came and he called me and said he never spoke to me it must've been someone else. I explained we had a long conversation then he remembered me but claimed we never set anything up which I did. The night before I asked if he was sure he could come out tomorrow because max had a seizure and I wanted him at peace before it escalated. Max had another seizure that morning but since Dr Aaron was coming I figured it would be ok. Dr Aaron then proceeded to tell me I should "use common sense" when it comes to possibly taking Max to the ER. I can not lift him and my mother is elderly and Dr Aaron is the one that screwed up so for him to add insult to injury is ridiculous. So because nowhere else had appointments and only 2 places service my moms area of Summit I asked if he could put Max on the schedule for this morning. He said yes and he'd be out at 9-930am but would call in the morning to "touch base" I texted him all the information and he never replied and we never heard back from him. To treat a family like this who needs services and is already going through a grieving process is ridiculous and people need to know about his flakiness and unreliability. It's heartbreaking to watch both my mother and her dog Max go through this and for a vet to be so callous about the situation he caused. This morning he had the audacity to reach out to the not for profit Cancer organization that is paying for the euthanasia to ask for payment. He claimed we had an appointment and he was on the way to my house. That was at 830am as of now, 934am neither me or my mother has heard from him. He never followed up at all like he was supposed to and call to confirm a time. He also hasn't showed up at her house. And never replied to the text message I sent him last night. About 4 years ago I used Pet Loss at Home. I was so angry and disappointed with the services that I told myself it was just my grief of putting down my 16 year old companion. I said if it still bothered me I would write a review later. Well, it's later and it still bothers me. The initial phone call was great, the women I spoke to was very understanding. It went downhill from there. A women arrived at my house in a cab. A cab! She walked in and was pretty much like ok let's do this. No time to let her presence sink in. I wish she had saved some details and shared others. She told me in detail how the shot would shut down my dogs organs. What she didn't tell me was that she was going to shave my sweet baby's paw. For some reason I really wasn't ready for that especially after what she had shared with me. She had MULTIPlE attempts at trying to insert the needle. So many I was thinking it was a sign not to do this. When it was done she collected payment and left. With my dead dog in a cab! I didn't know cab drivers would transport dead animals. Maybe if she hadn't taken a cab she wouldn't have been in such a hurry. A couple of weeks later I received the ashes and paw print thing in the mail. They didn't get her name right on either! We knew what had to be done but we wanted to try to keep him around long enough for my daughters birthday, just a few short days away. Without asking for a penny, we touched base everyday on my dog and how he was doing. When she arrived at the house, she couldn't have been more pleasant and compassionate. Gave us time when we needed it, and also worked quickly when she could sense that we wanted things to progress. My family and I are extremely disappointed in the lack of service and compassion that we received during our time of need. Our beloved family dog of sixteen years was declining quickly and we were in need of Pet Loss At Home's service. We emailed and filled out the appropriate form on the website the morning of Friday, 2/22/2019. We did not receive a call. We called the company around 12pm, same day and left a voicemail. No response was received. We received a call from the company hours later. The employee we spoke to appeared perplexed at our location (well within the appropriate radius) and advised that she would follow-up with us. There was no follow-up. We, again, called the company around 7pm same day and asked that if they could not provide their services before their hour of closing (8pm), to follow-up with us the following day (2/23/19). Unfortunately, we never heard back. My family called once again the morning of 2/23/2019, only to receive the same lack of response and neglect during our time of need and had to make other arrangements. On our way to the animal hospital, we received a call from the company. However, this defeated the purpose, as other arrangements outside of the home were made. We felt lost, forgotten, and that we were placed in a compromising position. The unprofessionalism and lack of response raised concerns during such a difficult time. To make the decision to have your pet put down is difficult, so I thought by choosing pet loss at home this would be one less thing to stress over. This wasn't the case!!! First I would like to say the euthanasia was very peaceful and well done. However everything leading up to it and receiving my dogs ashes was a mess. My 12 year old lab was diagnosed in July with oral melanoma. At the end of September, I got the worst news ever. There nothing more the vets could do for my baby as the treatment we were using didn't stop the spread. I was told that I would need to have him humanely euthanized soon since the pain and the growth was so bad. I scheduled an appointment with Pet Loss at home 8 days in advance, mostly to get myself ready. It was for Oct 4, 2013 between 8-9AM. Well around 9:15AM I called the company and I spoke with Michele. She apologized and said they would be on their way. Now imagine the heartache I'm going through. I finally feel comfortable with me decision and the vet is not here. I don't know when they are going to show up and unfortunately according to Michele the veterinarian is not answering the phone. At this point I am going through every emotion, trying to enjoy the time I have left with my baby, feeling guilty for calling this company, and starting to doubt if this was the right thing to do. The veterinarian was 3 hours late for the appointment. The veterinarian, Dr. A. Newman and her husband, finally arrived although they seemed all over the place. They did calmed down which made me feel better and like I said the process went every well. They step out of the room to allow me to grieve and carried my baby on a gurney to their really cool pet ambulance. The other points below are minor to the waiting and questioning yourself and trying to be peaceful with the last moments with my beloved pet. 2. They left the payment. I had to find their contact information and mail it. 3. There was a 10 day delay in getting his ashes back. I was told they just received the ashes a couple days before I called. However when I called the crematorium I was informed, my dog was cremated on the 5th and the ashes were delivered to the vets office on Oct 7th. I didn't receive them until the 17th of Oct. 4. The veterinary tech, Jennifer, was 45 mins late dropping off my dogs ashes which in turned made me late and thus docked my pay. I am glad this ordeal is over. I spoke with Michele and all she kept telling me was we never have these types of problems and sorry, sorry. I didn't want your sorry, I wanted Pet Loss at Home to be on time and professional. I wanted the peace I didn't get, while waiting for 3 hours not knowing if my baby would be put to rest that day. read more

We used Pet Loss At Home because the place we used previously, Lap of Love, couldn't come out until the following day. While Pet Loss At Home was adequate, and still better than the vet's office, there were a few disappointments: 1. No basket or other way to transport our cat's body to the vet's car. We had to scrounge an old towel to wrap our cat's body in. She was a large cat, and her limp body was cumbersome in the towel. Lap of Love used a basket bed which went much better. 2. The vet was friendly, but didn't ask anything about our cat. She also did a lot of nervous giggling that was off-putting. In contrast, Lap of Love took the time to learn about our cat and wrote a beautiful eulogy. The euthanasia itself went fine. But we feel Lap of Love set the bar really high for us and we wish we could have waited. read more

When she arrived at my home, she did everything she could to ensure my little guy wasn't scared or uncomfortable. Thanks to her, he went laying on his favorite blanket on his favorite chair. While this whole process is by far the hardest thing I've ever done, I know I did the right thing. And I also know I made the right choice in finding this service and having Dr. Monique Lewison help my little guy find peace. About a year ago, I've used Pet Loss At Home for one of our cats, Daisy. We made the call to put her down that day. I called late afternoon, and they scrambled to find someone to drive 1hr that night to do it around 8:30pm. The vet was very nice and accommodating. The service at home I thought was a great idea. Fast forward to this last Friday. Mind you, Pet Loss At Home advertised 1-3hr lead time with hours from 8am-8pm. It was time for our second cat, Cosmo, to be put down. While I was making these calls, he was in my arms in discomfort, and was getting worse fast. Between 5-6pm I've called 2 times with no answer, 6:15 got a call back about how she'd find someone. 7:30 I called wanted information, 10 mins later she calls back stating that they couldn't find anyone to do it tonight. Someone will call you in the morning. Without holding my breath on when someone would call me the next morning, I've called our 24hr vet hospital to make an appt. Told them we'd be in there in an hour. Everything went as good as it could have. Now Sat morning comes. I was curious when I'd get a call. Meanwhile, in the back of my mind I'm thinking if I decided to keep Cosmo around to suffer another 24hrs, while waiting for the call and setting up the appt, I couldn't live with myself. I ended up getting the call around 11:10am. Over 3hrs from when they open up?! Then probably another 3hrs before they actually make it to my house. The absolute bottom line is: They are in the business of servicing dying pets, sometimes in pain, and the pet owners want to a quick and easy (as possible) service to make sure they are giving the best to their pets. You shouldn't screw around with this. The last thing you want is to play phone tag and not have confidence when the service can actually be performed. It's a shame, I'll never use this service again... it's a great idea to have the service performed within the comfort of your own home. However, if the service isn't reliable, all that goes out the window. read more

Our little precious cat got really sick with heart disease. We had to let him go. That was one of the hardest things that we ever had to do. I was pretty frantic at the time because everything happened so suddenly during the pandemic. We had to make life and death decisions not only for our beloved cat but ourselves as well. I had to make the horrible decision to put my 15.5 year old dog down, and ultimately landed at Pet Loss at home because they were the only ones who could come the next day. I'm not sure if waiting another day for one of the more highly recommended services would have been the best decision for my dog, but despite the exorbitant cost, I wanted him to be at home and as comfortable as possible, so here we were. I appreciated that I was able to communicate via text with the vet, as I was in no shape to speak by phone. Dr. Yeager stated she'd be there at 1pm, so the whole time prior I was counting down the hours and minutes I had left with my guy. She was about half an hour late, not letting me know she was running behind until about 25 minutes until she was scheduled to arrive. While I was grateful for any time I had with him, it just added to my anxiety. What I found most distressing was her demeanor. Truthfully, she just talked too much. Perhaps that is my personal issue, but to hear her wax on about me and my dog, neither of whom she had ever met before, was not how I wanted to spend my last moments with my angel. Her delivery lacked true empathy and seemed rote. She literally told me over her shoulder as she walked out the door with my dog on a stretcher that I could expect his ashes back in two weeks. Closed door. It's now over two weeks and I just followed up about where my dog's ashes were. She replied promptly that I needed to follow up with the cremation center and sent me a phone number. That's it. No apologies for the delay. No compassion. Just here - deal with it yourself. I paid Pet Loss (a lot of money) to handle everything. They should not set expectations only to miss them, and they shouldn't pass the buck. The nature of the service is in dealing with people making horrible decisions and it's disappointing that the service seems to disregard that. I definitely recommend reaching out to other services if you have the time and opportunity to do so. Update: I just received a call back from the cremation center. It appears that they were not notified to pick up my dog until 6 days after he died. Hearing that my dog's body was just hanging around for nearly a week after he'd passed is beyond disappointing. NOT OKAY. Update 2.0: Apparently they couldn't be bothered to correctly spell my last name (despite it being available on my promptly-cashed check if nothing else). I received my dog's ashes with the name misspelled. Please do yourself a favor and avoid this service. read more

We also love Dr. Holly Pietschmann. What can you say about such an emotional experience with a person so caring? Dr. Holly's compassion, her patience, her understanding helped our beloved boxer Bailey in her last day and helped all of us. She made a horrible and very difficult decision and time actually endurable. We have said goodbyes to other dogs at home in the past, but truly no experience can compare to this. Dr. Holly spent so much time with us, talked about Bailey's current medical state honestly but also wanted to know about her when she was healthy, she took part in our stories which is the true definition of having a memorial for your pet and being passionate about what you do for a living. We were walked through every step beforehand so we knew what to expect the entire time, letting us say our goodbyes through each transition. Even during our grieving period she and this organization continued to provide care. She reached out to us to see how we are doing (wow, no one ever did that), we received ashes, a paw print, and a lock of fur, it all helps to make it feel like Bailey can be more than just a memory. The vet wasn't at all compassionate and forgot to do the paw print. He told me the next day that I need to pay another $40 for the paw print because I didn't tell him at the time of death that I wanted that. It's supposed to be included in the cost. Well, thank you Dr. Teague for understanding that between my tears and loss that I should have done that! I should have gone with another company. I have had others come for at home euthanasia's that were great. I chose Pet Loss at Home this time because it seemed more local. I should have know from his tone of voice on the phone conversation that it wasn't good. It was very matter of fact like reading off a script. It was not a solemn caring voice that was needed. It was the same kind of loud business like voice when he was in our home. He talked loud and had a sort of fake act like he cared. he was very repetitive. There was a lot more paperwork then we have had in the past. Then he had the questions "Where did you hear about us?" and 2 other questions that I can't remember because I couldn't believe that he asked the first! All that mattered was my precious Therapy dog of 16 years went peacefully. The crematorium he took her too was another bad situation. It was like an abandon building and they handed you the ashes in the street not even verifying I was the owner! No wonder he recommended having the ashes mailed! He said it was too hard on the family to pick them up. It was not hard emotionally it was hard to see the place he took her! I would never recommend Pet Loss at Home with Dr. Leppin to anyone. It is a hard job to do I am sure but some are just more suited as an office vet not end of life for a pet. I feel bad for those who have him the first time and don't know how much better it could be. I have many suggestions to improve the way it was done and would be more then willing to do that to make it better for others. read more

Payton, my beautiful black lab.......my best friend......the love of my life.......fought cancer for 18 months. When she was diagnosed with stage 4 lymphoma, they gave her 4 weeks to 6 months to live. She beat the odds and with chemo and other medication, was acting like a puppy again. The last few months though her health was diminishing and I told her that she has to tell me when it was time. On Monday, April 22, 2013 she told me. With a heavy heart I called Pet Loss at Home and scheduled them for the following morning (Tuesday, April 23, 2013). By 9:00 pm on that Monday the 22nd I could see Payton was suffering. She hadn't eaten or gone to the bathroom or even lifted her head since 7:00 am. She was panting for hours as if she was running in a race. I texted Dr. Barb who was scheduled to come the next morning. I told her Payton had taken a turn and asked if she would come a little earlier than planned the next morning. I didn't want to impose on her and ask her to come so late at night so instead I asked if she could come earlier in the morning. She responded to my text immediately and said she could come in the morning at the new time I requested but that if I needed her now, she would come. After much internal debate, I knew it was my responsibility to not let my Payton suffer more than she had to. She was begging me to let her go. Dr. Barb was here an hour later. I cannot begin to explain what an amazing service Pet Loss at Home offered to me. I am not one to write reviews but I am compelled to tell you that if you are in the horrible position of having to euthanize your pet, doing it at home where your pet is comfortable is very comforting. I was torn at 1st when considering euthanasia at home. I didn't want to have that memory in my house but then I thought of where my Payton would want to be and where she deserved to be. Not a day has gone by where I haven't felt grateful to Dr. Barb for making such a horrible experience in to one where I could lay on the floor with Payton and tell her 1,000 times that I love her. This is a godsend. A vet was able to come to our house the same day that I called. She was efficient, but compassionate - the perfect blend of the two. We have had several of our beloved dogs euthanized - both at the vet and at the emergency clinic. I have sworn on other occasions that we would do it at home, but it just never worked out that way. Last week we said goodbye to our beloved dog, Plato. We were blessed to have him in our lives for almost 15 years. Over the past couple of years, Plato made numerous comebacks from poor health. Each time he made a comeback, but not this time. Even though he lost his hearing years ago and his eyesight was deteriorating, He made the most out of life. He had mostly good days, but over the past week his occasional discomfort turned into outright pain. That made our decision easy. Plato hated car rides because they always seemed to lead to something bad, like a haircut and shampoo from Jeffery, or a car ride could also mean some poking and prodding from the vet. So we had been dreading the day of his final car ride. Fortunately, we never had to take that trip. We found out about a service called "Pet Loss at Home". It was a godsend that Plato was able to pass away peacefully in his favorite place in the whole world, OUR BED. I had called PetLossAtHome.com a couple days earlier to check on price and logistics for euthanizing Plato. Dr Alegra Liu answered the call and gave me information about the process and the cost. I thanked her and said we probably wouldn't need her services for a week or two, but two days later Plato was in so much pain we knew it was time to say goodbye. I called Dr Liu and in less than 2 hours she was at my home. She was was so professional and compassionate . She answered all of our questions and kept us informed about every step of the procedure. I am so glad Plato could leave this world pain free and surrounded by those who loved him. Plato was the most optimistic member of our family. He always greeted us with outrageous enthusiasm every time we came home. He gave us his unconditional love and he taught us how to live for the moment. And while he slept, he would sometimes offer a soft bark while he dreamed about who knows what. We like to think instead of chasing his favorite toy, he is now chasing the stars in the sky in a universe filled with love. We love you Plato. You will not be forgotten. Dr Karen Twyning, founder of Pet Loss at Home, was here last night. My beloved cat Sweetie Pie was almost 20. Her health had been slowly declining just in the past few months, but she was still a happy girl and not in pain. I'd always vowed that I wouldn't be a selfish person allowing my pet to live on just for my sake even if she was unhappy. Sweetie Pie made my decision easier. Suddenly, this week, she stopped eating. Loosing a pet, a part of your family, is just awful. To call Pet Loss at Home in hopes for help was a big mistake. I called and a vet returned my call pretty promptly. Being evening I wanted someone to come and put my14 year old dog down in the morning. I was assured my number was given to 3 vets in my area and would receive a call that night or in the morning. Nothing. No calls from anyone. By 12:30 pm I was so distraught we took him to our local vet. I did not want to do that. I wanted him to pass at home but no call back. Dr. Holly Pietschmann helped our darling girl leave this world pain and stress free. She was gentle and sensitive to both our baby's needs and ours. When our other dog passed away years ago, we had a different veterinarian come to our house that seemed caring, but when the time came to administer the injections, she and her assistant were too quick which made his final seconds painful. Dr. Monique Lewison visited my Chicago Home last night to assist with the passing of my lovable Bernese Mountain dog. Monique started working with me 3 weeks ago when I received the news of my dogs condition and began researching Euthanasia companies. My first consultation over the phone (free by the way) she stayed on the phone and talked to me for over a half hour about her approach, about my dog, and about the process. She was calm, polite, and patient both leading up to the event, and during. My sweet dog ended up passing away in my arms a few minutes before she arrived so I can't speak to the actual Euthanasia part of it but Monique lovingly made the clay imprints of my dogs paw for us to keep, covered her, and took her away on a stretcher. It was all very peaceful. I would use this company again. The only reason I give 4 instead of 5 stars, is last minute requests can be tough, but I almost wish when the service matches you with a doctor, its someone a little bit closer to your home (we were 45 minutes away from Monique). We are so grateful to the doctors and staff members who provide this service. Over the years, we have had to put two other dogs to sleep in veterinary offices. Although, our vet is wonderful, the experience was extremely stressful and scary for our pets. This time, our baby was able to leave this world in her favorite dog bed, feeling safe and secure with us cradling her head. Dr. Sarah was wonderful. Very kind and caring. I knew I had to put my 21 year old cat down as she just became blind and started to have seizures. I prolonged it for a few months as she seemed fine. She was eating going to the bathroom and cleaning herself and still Purring. I finally made the difficult decision and called Dr Sarah. She was wonderful, caring and so kind. The experience was of course very sad for me but Dr Sarah made it much easier. HORRIBLE!!!! WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND!!! Dr. Sarah was scheduled to come to our house between 12:00 and 3:00 pm. My husband had arranged his work schedule to go in at 7:00 pm so that he would be home for our beloved dog's final hours. Dr. Sarah's husband called at 1 PM and said she would arrive between 2:30 PM and 3 PM. We had carried our 100 pound German Shepherd, who could no longer walk, to the front yard to lay underneath her favorite tree where we would have her euthanized. It was a cool but beautiful sunny day and we were so happy that we had this great day for her last day with us. She was laying on a blanket with a pillow and the neighbors had come by to say goodbye to her because everyone in the neighborhood loved her. At 2:30pm Dr. Sarah called and said she thought we lived in Chicago, not Chicago Heights, and that she would not be able to come until 10 PM due to traffic and other appointments or she could come the following morning. Well my husband had already rearranged his schedule so he would not be here at 10 PM nor the next morning.! We were very distraught and told her all that we went through to make our dog's last day perfect and that my husband had to go to work at 7:00pm. She did not care at all and would not honor her appointment even after pleading with her. She could hear how very upset my husband was ( in the background) and basically hung up telling me to call back when we decided what to do. My husband decided to call off work that night so we called her back to tell her to come at 10:00 pm. We got her voicemail, left her a message to confirm she was coming at 10:00 and we never heard from her. Desperate to put our dog in a better place ASAP, we called our veterinarian who compassionately accommodated us. This wasn't how we wanted our beloved dog to pass but it was our only option and were grateful to our veterinarian for accommodating us. I would never recommend this organization, especially Dr. Sarah, to anyone. She should feel awful about what she put me, my husband and our dog through just because she did not want to drive in traffic. If I was charging people $500 to euthanize their dogs, I would be sure to make my appointments. read more

Dr. Pietschmann was caring, thoughtful and gave us as much time as we needed to discuss, choose and stay with our elderly cat during and after his sedation and death. She was thoughtful about handling his body and taking him away and offered us the option to wrap him and carry him ourselves to her car. This was the best option we could have chosen and we appreciated their quick response, exceptional care of our cat and follow up. It is the best experience we could have had under the circumstances. read more
