They finally got in some new ferrets in recently and holy shit. The small pet care has really gone downhill. Syrian hamsters housed together (they are highly territorial -- fights to the death can and will happen.) Ferrets with no water whatsoever, only a single empty water bottle. The entire small pet area stinking to high Heaven because 8 ferrets in a too-small cage makes for a cleaning nightmare. Those poor ferrets have been exhibiting stress behavior and languishing in their own urine and feces every time I've gone in over the last couple months. I think the store must be short staffed if it's this bad. Hopefully petco gets a clue and doesn't penalize the remaining workers. But.... Those poor animals. This is abuse. The groomers are quick and efficient for their nail trim and nail grinding services, it takes about 5 minutes. The groomers are confident with the dogs. It is a little dirty looking back near the tubs and there's not much space in the kennel area so I wouldn't take my dog for a full groom, but I will definitely keep coming back for nail trims since I can just pick out a toy for him in the meantime! read more

I WAS HARASSED AND TERRIFIED! If I could give this Petco ZERO stars I could. As an avid shopper at this location and spent thousands of dollars here I'm so upset. The owner of this particular Petco hired an outsourced parking booting company in the parking lot and after shopping in the store I came back with a boot on my car and had to pay $170 after the person booting my car refused to take it off until I paid for it. It was so terrifying as a female to experience this and had done NOTHING wrong. I went back inside and returned my entire purchase as I can't support a business owner that hires predatory people who just harass people randomly in their parking lot. I'm no longer shopping here ever again, hope you lose more money and it's worth it. Please avoid this Petco location unless you want to be harassed by multiple males and get a boot on your car for no reason. read more

I always go back and check on the cats you have up for adoption (I can't adopt at the moment/I have a cat and she does not like other animals) and it got me wondering why they are in the back of the store? Petco is a great place, no doubt but the one at is rather small as against the other Petco stores I've been to. They don't have grooming and vet facility here. Their training area is part of an aisle with collapsible dividers, most often near the food aisles... for my beagle puppy who can't get her nose off things, that was huge distraction during training. All that said, the people here are very friendly and helpful! I've used the in-store pick up several times over the past few months and each time it is has been easy and quick. Staff are courteous and very helpful when I've had questions. Overall the selection is good for natural, limited ingredient, and better quality products. I just did a curbside pickup at this location. I placed the order before I left my house to run a bunch of errands and got a notification 2 minutes later that I could pick it up when I was ready. I got there maybe 20 minutes after placing the order and pulled up to the curb in front of the store. I had called and was waiting to get connected to someone in pickup when someone gently tapped on my window and asked me if I had an order ready. I gave Sam my order and she looked it up and told me to give her a sec to drop off the order in her hand and then she would get mine. She kindly put it in my backseat and thanked me for shopping at Petco. She smiled the whole time and seemed generally happy to help me. I was really impressed with the level of service that she gave m The engraving is always quality and never shows any signs of wear. The tags many years old remain as readable as the day they arrived. This store has a new manager .I think he has made a lot improvements. The employees are very helpful and knowledgeable. They seem to really care about the animals that they sell. I am pleasantly surprised to see that they have a much better selection of high quality foods now for both dogs and cats. No risk to try. They guarantee you will be happy with it. I went to PetCo without the intention to purchase anything, I just wanted to take a look at the lizards in the store. I was looking for maybe 2 minutes when Kyle approached me and saw how excited I was to be looking at the lizards. He offered to feed them some crickets so I could see that and then even offered to let me hold some of the lizards!!! Lizards are my favorite animal so I was really excited to hold them. He was really friendly and helpful despite the fact that I told him I wasn't going to purchase anything. Definitely went above and beyond to make my day. Kyle rules. read more

Went for appointment which was marked as haircut,all they did was do a slight trim and bath,the groomer was rude with some unruly comments,my dog has been not letting her bathe now,filed 3 complaints and they told they are going to respond,store manager called and told she can only see one complainy which also said only uneven trim,pretty ridiculous that they lost all the notes,pretty unresponsive to customer experience,used to be a shareholder in this company,not ever going to buy shares/serive,not surprised the company is going downhill,pretty ridiculous service for a 6 billion dollar company,management please pay attention,please avoid this store!!!!! read more

A very weird experience at Petco tonight with a strange employee. I went out of my way tonight to pick up a couple of ordinary 45¢ goldfish for a large tank I have. The woman working there was lecturing me about how to care for goldfish and that she could only sell me 1 because I "only had" a 20 gal. tank. I told her I wanted more and she said she would have to get her manager's approval. Even more bizarre, I asked her why she was so concerned and making me jump through hoops and she replied that she cared about the goldfish's life (!). I asked her why she care about the lives of the goldfish she would sell me while at the same time selling them as feeder fish for pirahnas, cichlids and what not. She didn't have a reply, of course. I've raised goldfish for a long time and had some that lived for years. And yeah, if these were some prized species on the verge of extinction or very expensive, making a customer jump through hoops to get them might make sense, but when you see them in people's home in 1 gal. fishbowls, you think this woman, who is so concerned about the lives of the goldfish she's also gladly sell as feeders, would be very glad to know I had a large aquarium and could give them "a happy life". The cashiers at this store are pretty unbelievable. The cashier, Valerie, really enjoys harassing customers and being condescending about how to take care of fish. I've had the misfortune to deal with her three times. She has given incorrect information which is really unfortunate if she does that to people who don't know any better. Maybe instead of being rude to customers, she could offer to help scoop out the dead fish from PetCo's overstocked tanks if she's so worried about the well-being of the fish. I brought this concern up to PetCo's corporate office who asked me to give them another chance. Why? I'm the customer. I don't owe PetCo and "second chances". As new Bearded Dragon owners, we didn't know much and when we went into Petco to ask about them- we had an associate tell us a little bit about them and help us get them. Although we love our little guys, this turned out to be a HUGE mistake. First, she told us they can live in pairs, saying "they get along great". Her words. Well, turns out...no...they can't. At all. The bigger one after a single day attempted to kill the smaller one and the small one was being starved. We separated them and thought- eh, maybe they're just both males (because god knows they couldn't tell us the gender). Later, when we went back and told her this, she just shrugged and said "yeah, that can happen". .... :| Secondly, she sold us a light that was an insane wattage for the lamp SHE picked out and did not give off ANY UVA/UVB rays. In fact, she did not even mention that that they need UVA/UVB...kind of a big thing to leave out as it can KILL them if they don't have it. If we had left it on, it would have started a fire and burned down our apartment. Nice. Third, she sold us sand that led to the smaller one becoming impacted and caused him to nearly die...again. When she sold it to us, she picked it out SPECIFICALLY because she said it would NOT cause impaction. Okay, we still weren't enraged. A little aggravated but hey, we didn't know- so it's understandable they wouldn't, right? But don't worry, there's more. Fourth, we found out they both had MDB (metabolic bone disease), which is caused from not getting enough UVA/UVB. Weird, huh? This also helped in almost starving the littlest one because they need their bones to EAT. Fifth, she informed us we needed to buy meal worms and keep them down 24 hours a day. Meal worms contain way too much chitin and lead to impaction. Our smallest one almost died AGAIN because he could not fully digest the worm. That was fun when he pooped out a half digested worm...with assistance. Oh memories. :) In summary: Thanks to these idiots, it cost us over 300 dollars to get the correct set up, food, etc and will cost much more, in money AND space since we'll have to have two gigantic aquariums in our apartment. The above cost is NOT mentioning exorbitant vet fees, overpriced lighting/items that we couldn't order online because we were afraid our dragons would, you know, DIE before then. And above all, it cost us so much heartache and misery to watch those poor little guys suffer. They are slowly getting nursed back to health but I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't love to sue to the **** out of them and so much more. They don't take care of their animals, their rodent enclosures are disgusting and filthy (not to mention they are neglected), their fish are mostly dead, and oh, their reptiles are diseased because of their literally criminal negligence. Although this place has cheap aquariums and some things a little cheaper do NOT go here. There is a Pet Supplies Plus on Elston less than 5 minutes away where the animals are actually cared for, the store is clean, and most of the associates KNOW what they are talking about. read more

I am very impressed by the service and the result! I took my 6 mo old cocker spaniel puppy for his first cut. He's a shy and nervous pup, so I wasn't sure how he would react. The groomer asked questions about my preferences, and told me about different coat lengths and styling options. When I picked my puppy up, he looked fantastic and I could tell he was enjoying himself ( he's was playful and happy even before he saw me!!) Overall great experience. 100% recommended read more

Maybe I am just a HUGE animal lover and have a lot of experience owning every type of animal but this place is not where I would purchase my pets. Two years ago I bought a guinea pig (so my female pig could have a friend) and I asked for a female, well to my surprise when I got home, it was a boy! Then I went to them (since they are animal care specialists apparently) to have my guinea pig sexed (my mother bought me the guinea pig as a gift and not at that store). NOBODY knew how to do it. Since I would go there a lot to buy food for my 5 guinea pigs and rabbit, I even had a new associate there ask ME where an item was!!! They keep the guinea pigs and rats in TINY aquariams. I see three guinea pigs in ONE small tank, they can barelly move. Then I see food with SEEDS in it, which any guinea pig owner knows they can choke and die on those. I've seen dead fish in the tanks and would tell an associate but nothing would be done. The staff is pretty nice but not very informative on small animal care. I was briefly talking with a manager I believe it was and he did not know that a female guinea pig can die during pregnancy if she is older than the age of 9 months to a year. I feel like I'm training the staff whenever I get into conversation with them. read more

Their "dog training" is a joke and very unprofessional- places like this are part of the reason pets get given up for behavioral reasons. You will learn incorrect techniques and just mess up your dog, you will get little to no results with their treat-training and uneducated employees. I say uneducated because their trainer's training (as per what an employee told me) is 5 days. Even if it's a week or two, that's totally inadequate. This is a corporate RETAIL store, not a dog training facility. They should not even offer dog training, they should stick to what they do best-- retail. The store has a poor selection of attractive collars/leashes, that could be improved. I don't appreciate the fact that they sell live animals, and the sources for these animals are often commercial breeders "rodent farm" and the animals can come with health problems. There are plenty of stores that do NOT sell live animals, and they do just fine, I'd rather go to those stores. The prices on some items are high, yes, we all know that. They do carry Wellness and Solid Gold pet food, Blue Buffalo, they also have parking. I'd rather come to PetCo then PetSmart, they have better brands, that is the plus. read more

Yeah... no. Is this location convenient? Yes. Does the list of Pros stop there? Yes. When a dog is cute, it's most likely going to get spoiled rotten with toys. You would think a store dedicated to dog/cat products would have a better selection. No need to come here specifically for those kinds of items, because they don't have much to choose from. If you're at a grocery store, then they'll probably have most of the same stuff. If you're looking for a specific or more specialty toy or treat for your furry friend, then try Petsmart. I'll be back here if I need something in a pinch, but even then it's almost better going without whatever you were wanting until you can get to somewhere else. read more

This is a five star for the groomer Aubry. I have taking my dog for over a year to her. She is consistent and friendly. My dog likes her more then any other groomer. If she isn't with another dog when I come in, she is hold my dog in her lap instead of putting her in a kennel. I have only had positive experiences with her and wouldn't bring my dog to anyone else. I have "cheated" on her at other groomers (not petco) and find she is still my fave. The only reason I go to petco is to go to her! As far the store, I would give it 3. Simply put, if you have a dog that's getting on in years, do NOT take them to the Petco grooming department in Lakeview. They can't handle spending extra time with a dog and get flustered. That's why I'm updating my review to take the grooming department at Petco from two stars to one star. I thought I'd give them one more chance to be fair and it is convenient enough for where I live, so yesterday I took my 14-year-old Fox Terrier there. It was taking them a while to do the cut, so I called over there after 4 hours - mind you, I know it's getting harder for her to stand for long periods of time due to her hip - and THEY knew too. I have been totally upfront with them about this and they have not expressed any kind of problem. Well, until now. I picked up my dog from grooming and was rudely told, "I'm sorry, but this will have to be the last time we take your dog." I asked why and she said, "We had to take extra long with her because she had to take breaks, plus we had to have two people helping." I said, "Yes. I know. I told you that would happen and that hasn't been a problem before." Regardless, the attendant said they were done with her and couldn't take her ever again. I can understand if my dog bit her but let me get this straight - it's OK for you to take my money for dog food, treats and accessories but you can't accept a sweet dog that just needs a little more time anymore. I was genuinely pissed. Petco has officially lost my business entirely here and everywhere. Big mistake for what I spend. Nobody deserves to be treated like their dog is not good enough once that dog has reached a certain age. Incidentally, I called over to Kriser's, a nearby pet food and grooming store, where a nice girl over the phone said they would be more than happy to take my dog and that they know with older dogs they have to take breaks for hip issues and other matters. I'm looking forward to taking my business to their store rather than Petco and I encourage you to do the same. read more

Each and every time we have been here there have been dead fish, birds flying around who have made it out of the cages, a smell of dead (or soon to be dead) something and rude, unsympathetic employees. Rule#1 of retail customer service: Engage your customer, don't make the customer engage you. (Having been a customer service trainer, I may know a thing or 2 about this topic) Don't make the customer, who obviously needs assistance, stand there and listen to you chat with your coworker about boy problems or interpersonal issues or whatever. The customer obviously is standing there for a reason and its not to hear your petty gossip. Whats worse is when you say "excuse me" to said standing customer while you walk away and tend to straitening the shelves or leaving your department completely. Customers are the ones who keep your store open and conversely are the source of your paycheck. Long story short, If you don't have customer service skills consider another line of work. Love what you do, not love the paycheck you get every other week after half-assing your way through the day. If in-store management finds this level, or there the lack of, customer service acceptable then maybe regional management should take a good look at how this store is being run and consider replacing the management team.... This would be the same management team who was standing in the middle of the main isle in the front of the store talking about their weekend. I'm just throwin it out there.......... read more

I very rarely set foot in this location, but since the Petsmart on Broadway closed it looks like this is the only option within walking distance of mi casa. I'd been in here a few times before for random things and had good - but just okay - experiences. I stopped in the other day to get pill pockets and some other things to my my kitty's post hospitalization more comfy. When I walked in I was immediately greeted by several staff members, and when I inquired about the location of things one of them jumped in to help me. He showed me the pill pockets, then asked if I had ever used them before. I hadn't, so he gave me some tips on how to trick my cat. He was awesome, and I appreciated the tips even though when I got home my kitty was not fooled. Sigh. I continued to wander around, and another friendly employee approached me and helped me find the other things I was looking for. She seemed to take a genuine interest in my cat and his recent illness, and asked lots of questions. It may have been good customer service or she may have actually cared, but either way it was nice that she wanted a background so she could help me find exactly what I was looking for. I ended up leaving armed with everything I had come for, and a new impression of this place that their employees are friendly, helpful, and want to learn about your pet. It seems like they've realized why people in the neighborhood preferred Petsmart over them (at least, in the beginning when Petsmart had that same good service that they definitely lacked towards the end) and they're trying to win old customers back. I was never a regular customer, but I will definitely be willing to come back here if they keep it up. read more

There are two things that I REALLY love about Petco: 1. I can bring my dog inside with me, and 2. they have things that Target doesn't. It's a little overpriced for me. The staff is awesome and everything, but having a dog is expensive enough without having to spend $15.99 on a leash that I could buy for $5 online. I'm not even going to get started on the food prices... yikes! Great in a pinch, though, or when I absolutely MUST, immediately, have a doggy raincoat. read more

The store itself is a tad outdated...but this review is for the grooming salon only. I bought NOTHING in the store because the prices seemed out of touch with reality. I did not have an appointment but Bart was in desperate need of a bath and nail clip. Jennifer (my new go to groomer) got me right in with no wait. Told me to come back in an hour and a half....no problem. Gave her a heads up on Bart's issues so she would know what to do. Came back and she was able to cut his nails with no problems (my vet has issues with it so I wasn't even expecting her to be able to do it). I was really impressed! Bart will be going here from now on.... She gave me a special that was 30 bucks and INCLUDED the tooth cleaning...amazing because my dog is a 'special' case! I usually like Petco, but this location was awful. I took my wife and two daughters to get some new fish here, but all we saw were dead fish in both the saltwater and freshwater aquariums. Even the puffer, angel, and lion fish were so depressed. There were so many dead fish in every aquarium, and they were overcrowded! Doesn't anybody here know anything about fish? read more

Yuck. We come here sometimes to bathe our dogs - they have a self-service dog bath center where, for $12, you can use their big tubs and blow dryer. Well, the room is consistently a disgusting mess! Globs of hair in sinks and drains, wet, hairy floor, dirty towels draped around, cheap shampoo... it's pretty gross. I don't know why I come back... I keep hoping it will be cleaner, but no, it never is. Also, the prices in the store are very high. Food prices are only slightly high, but the treats, toys and accessories are marked up way too much. Shop on line, folks, and save a ton. read more

This is the worst self serve dog wash out there. No conditioner, bad towels, only one dryer and it costs 20% more than the petco on western. Also when I asked for more towels, they pointed to the one towel on the shelf. One towel for a 65-lb Labrador. Finally, it really wasn't clean. We won't be back. read more

I can't express enough how thankful we are that we met Aubrey in the grooming salon two years ago. After looking all over for a groomer for our miniature golden doodle we finally took to yelp...and found a review of her. Nervous new puppy parents, we brought our little guy in. And we couldn't be happier. She is kind, courteous, gentle and loving. Oh. And extraordinarily talented. People (often other doodle owners) literally stop us on the street to ask where we get out little guy groomed...and now she cuts for three of our other doodle-owning friends. I don't know what we will do if she ever leaves. (Also, the staff there is totally wonderful. I was super snobby at first-feeling like a big, corporate pet store was all bad. Not the case. This is a large, full-service petco. They have a large fish section, reptiles, hamsters, a huge selection of cat and dog food, and toys and accessories for all of the above. Staff is rarely wandering the store searching for customers to help, but I usually don't need help here anyway We have been here multiple times to stock up on pet food and litter, as well as some toys and treats. We have also taken our cat here to gets its required vaccines (petco holds an affordable price clinic every month or so) read more

Sweet location and decent selection of products. That about sums it up. I find it hard to not love a pet store that has live animals, but this one really isn't the best. It's understaffed, overpriced and kind of dirty. To their credit, the personnel that ARE here are always really nice. It is really hard though to find somebody to help you that is not at the register. We come here only when we need kitty litter and basic supplies for our cat and even those, I think, are overpriced. To be honest, the prices at Wiggleyville (which is close by) are not that much more for the better quality of services and pet items. One star to their credit: they have adoption programs here for adult kitties, which is great. They keep these cats downstairs. The last time I was here I saw something that broke my heart though - a humongous cat up for adoption, in the cage, sleeping in his litter box because he couldn't fit in the bed they put in there for him :( I hope they fix this. It's convenient and ok, I guess. I do love that it's right next to a big Walgreen's so I can get a lot of my shopping done at once :) read more

Shout out to the grooming team at this location! My boyfriend & I occasionally take our dog to daycare & when she goes, she definitely needs a bath. We used to give her baths in our home, but her hair started clogging our drain lol So, we gave Petco a try! Since I'm not there when the whole ordeal goes down, I don't really know how my dog behaves or what happens. But what I do know is that my girl smells great & her coat feels amazing after a visit. Both my boyfriend & I have late schedules, but Kelsey has made accommodations for us time & time again! She truly knows us & our dog, Victoria. We have recently moved to Dallas from Chicago & we will miss Kelsey a lot! She gave Victoria some treats as a going away gift, which was so sweet & completely unexpected! I hope some other amazing pup finds his/her way to Kelsey b/c she has been such a blessing to us! read more
