My review is regarding the grooming department, specifically cats. I take my supercat here to get him groomed 2-3 times a year. I first brought him here about 8 years ago when he was a kitten and I didn't know what to do about his hair. He's a persian and I grew up with dogs so didn't know anything about grooming a cat, let alone a long-haired one. They do a nice job with any kind of shave that you ask them to do. Sometimes he just needs his underside shaved. Once I brought him in for a mohawk (which turned out AWESOME, btw). I was taking him to some lady who worked out of the vet's office at Belmont/Paulina for a while out of convenience, but she closed shop and I came back here. The price is right- I think it's $65 for a lion cut at the most. That is less than any other place I've taken the supercat to. And the people over the years have been friendly, helpful, efficient and do good work. I highly recommend them. read more

I love this Petco! The workers are very knowledgeable and very helpful. They have a lot of pet options, which some other Petcos in the city lack, due to being smaller locations. I recently got a small turtle a few months ago and the staff were able to answer my questions and offer me suggestions for turtle care. I wanted my turtle to get more exercise, so I decided to get some minnows and maybe a plecostomus to help clean the tank. The staff in the fish department gave their true, honest opinions, which I really respected, because they could have easily up-sold me. I always enjoy coming here to make sure my turtle stays healthy and happy! read more

Brought my very energetic, five pound dog here for a haircut and they were excellent. He has never been so wiggly and barky that he has been kicked out of a groomer, but he has definitely had a few very poor haircuts and angry groomers. The staff here was excellent and very patient with my dog, and most importantly, his haircut turned out well. Also, on the customer service front, the woman in front of me in line was literally screaming at the staff about getting her 100 lb St. Bernard (that was very overdue for a cut) in for a haircut without an appointment. I was impressed by the professionalism of the staff in the face of a screaming crazy-woman. Bottom line - I will be back here. Good price, great haircut, professional staff. read more

Cat Grooming We took our 8 year old cat in for grooming, including getting her ears cleaned, nails cut and a conditioning treatment. She looks great. She is a cranky kitty and that did not effect the results at all. Great job. read more

We have been bringing our dog, Rufus, here for his grooming since we adopted him a few years back. Not that he needs a lot since he is a short haired chihuahua. He still needs his monthly spa treatment to be washed, conditioned, clipped, squeezed and whatever else they do so we don't have to. We love our dog but draw the line at anal glands! Luckily for the groomers he isn't your typical chihuahua, he doesn't nip, yap, bark or any of those annoying chihuahua traits. These guys really treat him as if he were their own. We have taken him to other groomers but he always comes out looking and acting as if he had been tortured. Not the case when he has spent time with Janet, Rocky or the other girls. These guys really seem to care! He comes out looking as happy as he was going in but smelling better! The grooming department gets 5 Stars! The retail store itself and the staff on that side brought the rating down a notch. read more

This was where we shopped when we first adopted both of our dogs. They were very helpful and answered all our new dog owner questions with the first dog. When we brought in our second dog the day we adopted him, he peed all over the store and the staff was super nice about helping me clean it up (although I'm sure they secretly hated me). He's a German Shepherd Dog and had just gotten fixed...there was a lot of smelly pee. Anyway, every time I go in, the staff asks if I need help. They also carry the special dog food Col. Klink needs for his I.B.D. at a reasonable price and have amazing grooming prices for a Shepherd...it can't be beat! Big pro, unrelated to the store itself...while you wait for your fluffy friend to be groomed, you can go across the street and 'ooooh' and 'aaaaah' over adoptable critters at PAWS. read more

Been to the Clybourn location a couple times and the staff was always helpful and store clean. I stopped in yesterday to get my small dog a toy or chewable that she wasn't going to eat the stuffing or stitching and get sick or eat in seconds. Both staff members directed me to the cow hooves and my dog and I couldn't be happier. She loves the treat and I definitely recommend this location and cow hooves in general to occupy your dogs time and give them a treat that takes a while (couple weeks) to eat through. read more

This review is mostly about their grooming dept. We take our teacup poodle there often because they tend to have great availability and do an overall great job and he seems to like it there. Staff is really nice and always take care of my pup. I'd give 5 stars except twice they've cut his tail fluff off to a ratty tail which we noted in their computer not to do but apparently if you change the blade size in the notes it erases the old notes that say don't cut his tail.. anyway he always looks good and is happy there so we'll keep taking him back, sans tail fur. They did just re-do the checkout line which seems a little funny right now but i'm sure i'll get used to it. I also like that the store in general has everything i need food wise from Spot's Stew to Royal Canin.. i go to Krisers across the street for more specialty stuff like Stella's and Chewys treats which my dogs just die over.. read more

I can not say enough about this place! From when we first adopted our dog and we worked on getting all of her essentials, to the day she was done with training, the staff at this petco is top notch! Everyone puts in the effort to make your shopping experience simple and stress free! The dog training?! Just perfect! Judy is a delight to work with! She explains everything and really gets to know you and your pet. One star for my experience with another customer! But 5 stars towards the guy in the fish department. I went in to buy a butterfly loach and they only had one, the guy in the department was so nice and helped me out with my fish tank questions but this Asian man came and started arguing with me saying that he wanted the butterfly loach even though the nice employee had already bagged it for me and it was in my cart. I then had another question so i went to find the nice employee again and the Asian man grabbed the fish from my cart and yelled "THIS IS MY FISH NOW" and ran away with my butterfly loach. By the time i found the employee, the Asian man had already purchased the fish and was walking out and i was traumatized by the whole situation and the fish department employee was so apologetic and even went out of his way to special order me a new butterfly loach just for me! read more

I came into the store today trying to buy renal support food for my cat. Now it's already been tough trying to find this food for him since only certain locations with hospitals carry them and not to mention all the issues we're experiencing with the supply shortage. I have my prescription in hand like I normally do, I luckily was able to find the food my cat will eat and was ready to purchase it. I go to the register and was told my prescription card doesn't have a bar code, which I've never had or needed since he's been on this medicated food(for 2 plus years). They have always been able to use the RX code and I'm able to buy the food with no problem. Today the rx code doesn't work and they tell me I have to come back and speak with the hospital in order to get a card with a bar code. Basically saying it's not their fault it's on the hospital. So the manager acts like he's doing me a favor by letting me buy 2 cans which they were able to ring up just fine but couldn't let me buy the rest of the cans like it's my fault the hospitals dont give out what they need for the registers. So now I have to drive all the way back, speak to the hospital and get a new card that scans just to buy 6 cans of food that is already never on stock. Not to mention, again I've bought food from this place multiple times and never has had an issue with them using the RX code( this clearly wasn't my fault), and now it's all sudden an issue. If it wasn't for this medicated food, I would never go to this location again! read more

If you can avoid Judy as a dog trainer, you definitely should. Ducki is phenomenal! Judy on the other hand is biased towards certain people and dog breeds. She held my 4 month old pitbull puppy and allowed other bigger dogs to bite him and said "get your licks in" while my dog still has marks and scars on his face from other puppy's bites. Before puppy playtime even began, she asked several questions about my puppy including does he play with other dogs after I had explained that he has come to this petco location twice a week since he was 7 weeks old. Then when my husband walked in she asked him the same questions as if I was lying. After all of this she commented on how well trained my puppy was. The following week I showed up to my regular Saturday obedience class and was told that Judy attempted to ban my puppy from Sunday puppy playtime. After reviewing video footage which I had and petco had, the staff and other trainer came to the conclusion that my puppy did not show any signs of aggression. But I was still told not to come on Sunday's simply to avoid confrontation with Judy, staff expressed that they have many issues with Judy. She has showed bias towards us and our puppy. I feel that it's unfair that it was suggested that my puppy should not join in on Sunday puppy playtime. I have not been confrontational and I want what's best for my 4 month old puppy. After hearing what the other employees said she may or may not be working there when you decide to take puppy lessons- if she is my advice would be to avoid her. read more

Decent store. The floor staff seems to be friendly and some-what knowledgeable(not much more than myself) which i'm no expert. The cashier team is really bad. Was standing at checkout, two lanes open. Both with a line of people in them. One of the cashier's yells over to the other cashier, "yo, where's "sarah", or whomever. Cashier says don't know ... he then says in a ghetto matter, that he is supposed to leave at 6 and "ain't stayin' late". Wouldn't stay and finish checking out the people in the already long waited line. He pissed off quite a few customers. Must be work release program from huber. read more

Let me start off by saying this used to be my favorite place to come to up until i took my two pugs to get groomed and they call me saying she had fleas but my other pug doesnt have it and neither does my third dog who did not get grooming by them but BY HIS VET. This petco is not clean and my dog got flea from them because she was left in the cage for 2 hrs before she was washed. It literally takes less than 3hrs 45 mins to wash a dog and i only got called an hour before i pick them up. NOT ONLY THAT but the groomer also THINKS SHES MY DOGS VET and reccomends that she should lose weight and ASLO RECCOMENDS WE FEED HER GRAIN FREE. First off, my dogs vet had reccomended we feed our dogs food with grain as it is better for their heart. Meaning a GROOMER CANNOT RECCOMEND SOMETHING FOR A DOG IF SHES NOT A CERTIFIED VET. She cant tell me what to use on my dog based on her own EXPERIENCE. And the store manager was also rude saying my dog got her flea while walking on the way to the car when I live in a nice building with no grass patch around and underground parking. Oh and not only that but the STORE MANAGER thinks the groomer has ENOUGH TRAINING to make reccomendtions to my dog?? Like no? Youre not HER VET YOU DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH TRAINING. When i told my dogs vet about all this fuss he is literally laughing at this store managers replies. Like who are you to tell my dog to lose weight? read more

Shopped here exclusively until last Saturday. Had a horrible experience in the parking lot. I spent 100 dollars and was gone for 5 minutes after dropping my items off in the car. I came back to a towed vehicle and think that this is a ridiculous policy as I spent a lot of money there and deserved to leave my car there for a few minutes while I ran another quick errand. I won't be coming back. They're waiting to tow your car! I saw 3 other cars get towed while I was trying to call the company to retrieve mine. Don't shop here. read more

I am a customer at this specific store. Not much to say about it, the place is your typical large scale resale for pets. They have everything I need every time I go there, I only think prices are a bit high but so it is everywhere else. Having a pet costs a lot. I never experienced bringing my dog to the groomers here because we have a specific place we like to go already. I visit the store at least once a month for chewing toys, snacks, bones, things Mosby can play with. I never buy food here... we use our Costco membership for that. read more

Lots of people are buying cat food everytime I am there, but I simply purchase dry goods for marine aquariums. The place is hit or miss on the supplies. Their price on name brand marine salt is unbeatable. Furthermore, I frequently support my local fish stores by purchasing their over priced products, but can not pass up the price on their salt. They have a wide variety of priduct for all animals and several live turtles, snakes, hampsters, ect. They store is very clean, but the staff is slightly rude, you know its LP so they have a chip on their shoulders. read more

Oh Yelp... Why don't you allow a negative amount of stars? This Petco would be really nice if they fired the annoyed pissed off employees and hired some people who actually have customer service skills. I own a saltwater tank so I use to come here to buy premixed saltwater, coral and fish. Everytime I would come to the aquatic section of the store there was always an issue where none of the employees wanted to help. Even on non busy days. I have had employees get upset or frustrated on numerous occasions when I have asked them to grab a fish for me. I even spoke to one associate about the FIRST time I noticed ick in their saltwater tanks and they became upset. After SECOND, THIRD, and FOURTH time I visited (within a span of three months) and still saw ick in their tanks it made me sick. Clearly they do not know how to properly care for fish or their customers! With that being said they also clearly do not care about gaining any business! I called about a Biocube, I was put on hold for about 3 seconds. When I answered the guy told me that they DID NOT have any Biocubes in stock. Even though he told me this I unfortunately still needed to go there to buy saltwater. When I walked into the aquatic section I saw 2!!! TWO OF THEM! Are you kidding me?! We just took our Bernedoodle puppy to the grooming salon at Petco and it was an amazing experience! We had no clue which groomer she should go with, but Joseph was in the office early in the morning and took her. Joseph followed every single request of ours and she is in BEAUTIFUL shape - from the washing to the brushing to the trimming... everything! We also got to the salon a few minutes before she was done and saw Joseph being so sweet with her, kissing her on the nose for being good while he was brushing her out. She had a great time, looks beautiful, and we will definitely be back to see Joseph! read more

Our Bulldog puppy, Lola, just graduated from level 1 puppy school! I attribute all of Lola's great new tricks and obedience to the most wonderful teacher in Chicago, Judy! She is the absolute best and does an excellent job of keeping classes small so everyone gets individual attention. These classes aren't only less expensive than most independent schools but i would argue much more effective because Judy keeps the class sizes small! I would highly recommend her to everyone! read more

Adopted a dog at Paws across the street and immediately walked over here. We were unsure of what to buy and Judy, the obedience instructor at Petco, greeted us and helped us a ton in locating everything we needed. We signed up fro classes on the spot and were really impressed with her skills. Our dog Louie learned fast and got to also interact with new dogs. It was a great experience and I recommend going here for your new pet needs as well as signing up for Judy's obedience classes. read more

I came here after adopting my beagle/chihuahua across the street from PAWS. Pretty much everything I needed for her was right at the front of the store which made for a much smoother shopping experience. I did find that I had a bit of trouble trying to find an associate to help me find some things, but once I did - they were helpful. I probably won't be making much of an effort to return to this location as it's not the most convenient for me, but if I am in the area, I'd probably stop by. read more

I took my Sheltie there to get groomed and it was possible the poorest job I've seen done. She wasn't neatly trimmed around her paws or anything. I looked like they brushed her and that was it. I've defintely had much much better jobs done for the price. read more

I walked in and got everything I need, everyone was friendly, and I got a fancy little membership card with cool rewards. This review is for the Grooming Department as they have been grooming my fancy schmancy cat, Bella Jessica Simpson, for about 2 years now. She gets the Lion cut every time, and every time she looks great. The only thing I dont like, is sometimes she has to sit in the cage a while either before or after the appointment. We started with Ducki when our puppy was just a few months old and we have witnessed amazing progression in obedience through the means of positive reinforcement. I felt compelled to write a review because Ducki went above and beyond to make sure that both my wife, our dog and I were learning uniformly throughout each session. She excels at communication and teaching in a caring manner. Almost everyone that meets our dog, mentions how well behaved he is and I have to give Ducki great credit for this.
