Amazing Vet Clinic! I recently moved so I had to try a new pet clinic and I will now be going to Vetco within the Long Beach Petco for all of my kittys needs! This is a review for their veterinary service. If you want to get your cat spayed Google it Long Beach provides a service that is only $200. I didn't know this but wish I had before I had my kitty spayed here. They'll tell you it's $250 but then there is a $250 exam with blood work and then with all the medication and extras it cost me $700. I have to say everyone is nice and they are great doctors but just be prepared to pay this amount if you go there. I can afford it now but I certainly couldn't of when I was in my twenties or thirties. Once again good service but expensive and they don't tell you up front with the total cost waill be. read more

VETCO I will not tolerate staff that believe or think they know everything. My boyfriend and I brought our cats to this location, Long Beach store (which is the worst mistake we've ever made). We originally came for an appointment for one cat that was vomiting and then had them do a check up on the other (where we later found out had a UTI). They informed us that we would get a call about her test results in a couple days, so that we can get the right treatment plan however when the day came we did receive a phone call but no email of the medication/estimate. I called back the next day for more information and the doctor and tech I spoke to had the worst condescending attitude and spoke to me as if I were stupid. Then I received a call from the tech telling me that she sent the email and that I was in the wrong. She was just supposed to send the email but HAD to call and basically harass me telling me I missed it or messed up. Like how?? I'm the customer who was in the dark but it's my fault somehow.... I never saw any emails from the and I have been checking for TWO days (and it's not in my junk mail either). I didn't understand why I was getting this treatment when all I wanted was more information on when and what I should do to help my cat with her infection. I WILL NEVER RETURN The staff are too full of themselves and can't seem to admit to any mistakes they made. read more

Very dishonest, I called ahead and asked in person for how much a shot of FVRCP shot would cost and they said 30$ after I went in person they said it was 80$ then said it was a mistake and that was the price for a combo shot not a single one then claimed that the single shot is 47$. I mentioned that I asked before and they did honor the price but eh staff member had a bad attitude about it and said that they won't honor the price the next time. Why would you say a certain price then get mad when I want to pay that exact same price? I am so very disappointed with their grooming! I specifically asked them NOT to cut their hair short, they had no knots or tangles!! We checked their hair with me to make sure they don't get too short of a haircut but not only they got the shortest haircut ever, they both got flee and one got an eye infection and swollen parts from flee bites or something I am still trying to figure out! Also I paid extra for their nails to be buffed which didn't happen. They are also somewhat traumatized and sad ever since back home!!! I am so angry and disappointed with the service!!! 4 stars review because the cashier thought my hamster was a mouse and said that it was unusual for me to have as a pet because people normally feed them to snakes. TBH I was mortified but it was kinda funny cuz the misunderstanding was so drastic from the hamster being a hamster and a hamster being a mouse. It took a while to find someone to help me, but long story short, i got my hamster who was 2 months old at the time and was a light sand color. She was a special hamster because she was the only non gray hamster of the bunch. She also happened to be sleeping so I kinda chose her because she seemed to be napping a lot and would seem to stay out of trouble. Well as you can see in my profile picture, she's grown a lot but still remains tiny. She is a dwarf hamster. I'm glad they gave me a booklet, guide for hamsters. read more

The Petco at 6500 PCH in Long Beach is just the worse place to take your pet to be groomed. I thought I would give them a chance. When I arrived with my Toy Poodle at the scheduled time, we were left standing at the counter for15 minutes while the three groomers talked among themselves. One groomer even screamed out that she was going to eat. Finally, after standing at the counter for 15 minutes the process finally started. As my dog was now trembling, it took the groomer over 5 minutes to input my dog's vaccination records. When I explained to the groomer that I wanted a toy poodle cut, she quoted me a price that 35% more than the price I was given when I booked the appointment. If a toy poodle requires extra time to cut, then state that on website at the time of booking, instead of stating a lessor amount to lure you in. No one ever said hello to me or my poodle. It was a terrible experience. Avoid this horrible place at all costs. Your pet deserves better. read more

I took my dog here for grooming for the first time 2 weeks ago. I was very disappointed with the outcome and the price. I paid $76 for a basic wash and "shave" down. I had to pay an extra $10 to get him shaved, which I was not told until I picked him up and looked at my recipe. I asked for him to be shaved all the way down, he was not shaved all the way down. They didn't even cut his hair around his face at all! The cut is so uneven and they left a big piece of hair that fell inside his ear, that turned into an ear infection and I had to take him to the vet to get this chuck of hair that was stuck in his ear. I am very upset with this grooming services, I will never take my dog here ever again! read more

I stopped in on a Saturday afternoon, when the shop seemed pretty busy, to inquire about their services and the staff was very helpful and politely answered all of my questions. He says the groomers treat him special, that he doesn't feel like a number... "What else, honey"...They really get into those hard to reach areas but that he would like it if they were more consistent about placing the bow around his neck upon completion of the grooming. They don't intimidate him and therefore I don't have to apologize for any sudden splatters of nervous shits while I'm paying for the reasonable grooming bill. I was very upset at my experience with the groomer. Not only was he unfriendly toward my 6 month old puppy and I but he got verbally upset with me when my puppy had an accident due to the fact that the groomer frightened him and didn't make an effort to be kind. We made an appointment earlier in the week for 5:30p.m. Sunday 6/14/20. We arrived early checked in and met the groomer outside, as he guided us in my puppy had an accident by the desk where he replied with "ugh, the time i was supposed to spend on your puppy I now have to clean up his mess, and I still have to groom another dog and i just have too much to do." He gave us no chose but to get a refund and leave. I'm sorry sir but this is your job and this is when you, yourself, scheduled this appointment. I'm thrilled they offer free socialization classes and genuinely appreciate their help, but my dog often only gets a minute or so of time in the room because she is nervous. This would be fine, except I noticed that the trainers let the totally socialized, playful puppies run around for much longer. I'm not a dog trainer, but I would think the dogs that need help being socialized should have at least the same amount of time, if not more. Otherwise, what's the point? Brian is an awesome groomer. I first took my puppy to get her nails filled after she was clear of her shots. He did great. Then at 5.5 months I thought she would be ready for a trim. She looks beautiful and I'm so pleased. I made my apt every 5 weeks since he was so great. My puppy really liked him and my dogs tail was wagging after. My puppy has one skin imperfection patch so that is showing in my picture if you look close. I'm so happy and my puppy looks great! read more

And we get there and they have us waiting. This Petco is one of the best I've been to. Ryan (I think he's a manager) is the kind of person you'd hope to encounter in a store. He was knowledgable, friendly, approachable, and made sure my mom and I were set before we left the store. He's apparently also a groomer, so I'll be sending Mercedes there to check it out. The store itself is big, clean, and has a great selection of cat, dog, small animal, and fish products. Surprisingly, they have a large selection of dog apparel (even big dog apparel). The cashier was patient as my mom and I checked out with a lot of dog toys, individual bags of treats, and reusable bags (which is refreshing). You could tell he actually enjoyed his job. I'm quite fond of the featured adoptable bunny in the front, they're always so well taken care of. Their Kaytee timothy hay always seems to be on sale which is a bonus when you have three fuzzkins to feed. read more

Management sucks. Went to return an unopened bag of treats this morning and it was slightly past their 30 day return policy. I had grabbed the wrong bag when I was there for my dog's puppy class one time, well actually I grabbed two bags of the normal treats I buy and the second one on the rack was a different flavor that my dog can't eat and I didn't notice until I got home. Manager refused to refund or give me store credit. I have taken multiple Petco training classes with both my dogs, spend thousands of dollars buying dog food every month there for the last 6 years I've had my dog. And they won't give me store credit for a $30 bag of treats so I can buy go buy replacement bag of a different flavor of treats FROM THEM. Not good business or customer service. I will be buying from Pet Supplies Plus going forward. read more

I definitely will be back, as Jaime was professional, kind, patient and showed my dog affection that I would want him to have in someone else's care. Grooming is hit or miss. Brought my pups for a walkin trim- great job and fast. Made an appointment - APPOINTMENT at 12 - at 5 I was told they were running late and she'd be ready at 6. SERIOUSLY... And on top of that- the absolute worst cut I've had on her in 6 years. She's shaved to the skin on her tummy, there are burn marks from the clipper. There should be licenses for groomers and this girl should LOSE hers. If I had a name I'd publish it. I'm just saying BEWARE and if you have a choice, don't take any pet that you love here and subject them to the hours of waiting and pain. read more

in full disclosure, i only visit this or ANY pet store to pick up crickets for my red-eyed tree frogs. and i wouldn't normally review a chain like this, but i do feel like this location deserves a review regardless. first off, it's not their fault that their parking lot is the seventh circle of hell, so i'm not going to hold that against this location. i'm only mentioning it because it is indeed a thing to be aware of beforehand. the slots are narrow, the drive spaces are narrow, and every time i manage to leave without being hit or hitting someone else, i consider a tiny victory. if you drive a full size SUV, don't bother. i drive a sports coupe and it's still TIGHT AF. likewise, it's not their fault that getting there is a hassle from east side LB; that corner of PCH and 2nd is a nightmare, and is only going to get worse. so why do i bother with this location, when there's a super easy petsmart in signal hill about two miles from my front door, with ample, easy parking and reasonably timed traffic lights? when there's BOTH a petsmart AND a petco within walking distance of my office, and another petsmart just off the freeway on my way home? because: 1) their crickets are healthy and always in supply. part of buying crickets for tree frogs is either intending for half of them to die before they meet their valiant and respectable end, or buying so few at a time that you're purchasing them every two or three days. the crickets i purchase here live at least a week (well, those that survive the preceding feedings, that is). the only other place that sold similarly healthy crickets was circle pet, and they are out of business. so, the chains it is, and the other locations are either always out of stock, or sell sick crickets that die within a day of bringing them home. 2) their service. i've been shopping this petco for a couple of months now, and every single time i walk in, i am greeted immediately and tell the cashier i need 75 medium crickets. within five minutes, i am walking out of the store with said crickets, versus standing there waiting and waiting and waiting and ultimately having to remind someone at least twice why i'm standing there. when you show up at a pet store for crickets, you tend to drop instantly to the bottom of the priority list (in my experience), but not here. ...so, yeah, i guess that's it. yay, this petco! read more

Had my first individual dog training 101 session today with Sara and she was amazing! She answered all my questions and then some in just 45 minutes. She went above and beyond and I feel so much better equipped to handle my pup's anxiety and poor behavior. The store overall is great and the staff are always super helpful but Sara deserves 10 stars, I'm so happy I have their training a shot! read more

Located right next door to Whole foods, this was one of my favorite Petco's in Long Beach. I used to come here all the time when I used to live in Long Beach. This place was less than a 5 minute drive away from my condo. This place was is on the small side but this store always carried everything and anything I was looking for, whether it be for my hamsters, my fiance's fish, our dog my neighbor's cat, I could always count on this place to have it. The employees here have always been very nice to my fiance and I. They would also offer help to load big items to our cars, which was a big help when we were there by ourselves and had to hold our dog's leash (what's the point of having a dog if you can't bring him to Petco?). I remember a few years ago when this place had a regrand opening of their store. It was was a lot of fun and there were some very awesome freebies that included a free photo with your pet and a caricature drawing of you and your pet, drawn by a very talented artist. Parking here is plentiful, even though this place shares parking w/ multiple businesses here. The store itself is pretty clean. If your dog has an accident, there are dog bags and disinfectant gel available for you to clean up after him/ her and clean up your hands. Pricing here seems to be cheaper than Petsmart for a lot of the items I come in here to purchase but sometimes Petsmart offers the same stuff for a few dollars cheaper. So I would say the pricing is similar. I like both chains. But I prefer the customer service here to be much better. Overall, if I still lived in Long Beach, I would automatically come here first for all my pet supply needs. read more

I think that this is probably one of my favorite PetCo stores. The grooming salon is staffed with associates that are always pleasant to speak with and eager to help. The store associates, also are always welcoming and are sure to approach you to see if you require any help. The store is always clean and the shelves stocked and organized perfectly, I love that they host the animal match rescue team on the weekends just outside of their store. This is a local organization who takes it upon themselves to rescue animals from kill shelters and bring them here to Petco on weekends to try and find them forever homes. The grooming salon helps to clean up and groom these pets to give them the best chance possible at being adopted. I love that PetCo does this and supports the community in this way! read more

The parking lot could get a bit crowded due to the Whole Foods - but the parking area in front of Petco is generally empty. Smaller store always kept very clean. It always feel a bit dark in here - and there are never too many people working. I'd say if you already know what you want and just want a quick stop this place is very convenient. If you are looking for someone to help you out and make suggestions I'd say another Petco or Petsmart might be for you. read more

[This review is solely for the Grooming Department. ] We have always made it a habit of frequenting smaller local shops to try and support small business. But eventually, it started to feel like it became harder and harder to get appointments. Then they seemed to have really long turn around times (dropping our dog off at 10 am and getting him back at 6:30 pm and having to have that be the sole focus of our Saturday because we didn't know when he would be ready. You get the idea... So out of frustration, we made an appointment with Petco to have him groomed. I have not been happier! I usually do the basic (he's a small guy) and add the extra package which lets you do three extra things (I do teeth brush, breath freshener, and paw butter). It costs about $60. (Smaller shops were charging us $50, and with tip, it was $65). They do a great job with the cut, are super kind, and he is always done within two hours. And the price is very good when you consider everything you get for it. Staff is nice too! We're super happy with their service and will continue to bring him here! read more

I have never ever submitted a negative review about anywhere but I wanted to let other users know that I think this location is either too busy or just doesn't really care about what the customer wants. My puppy went in about 2pm one day and came out 4 hours later (why does it take 4 hours)shaved. I showed the lady a picture of what i wanted and specifically said please don't shave her. She is not the kind of dog you shave, even if you aren't told not to shave, this isn't the kind of dog you shave. She is a designer puppy with the cutest little face and her hair was brindle with white highlighted tips. So now she's shaved down to an inch and on her back... the shave isn't uniform or close to being even and where her head starts and her back stops it looks like....well, I'm 100% sure this took about 5 minutes and I couldn't be more sad about it. It was her first haircut and to say I am disappointed with the service would be a huge understatement. Go somewhere else read more

This review is for an employee- Mike. I went into Petco yesterday waiting for my puppy to finish at the vet Thrive. I found some cute outfits and a small chew toy that I wanted to get him. When I went to the cashier, Th ere was Mike. Super friendly and attentive. Complimented my purchases and was nice enough to give me a bit of a discount. It was totally unexpected but was greatly appreciated. He went out of his way to make sure I had a good experience. After my purchase he said to make sure I try on the outfits for my puppy and if they didn't work out to just come back and make sure I hold on to my receipt. Literally a great experience from Petco! Thank you for employees like Mike! I give him at your location 5 ++ stars! But I came in today, having such a good experience the day before to exchange and possibly return some of my items. The sizes didn't fit my Frenchie the right way... so I looked for 2 of the same items that I really wanted to keep, and found them. While I was looking an employee asked me if I needed assistance- I turned around and there was Mike. Told him I was good and appreciated him for asking. I then grabbed some frozen pup yogurts and made my way to the front. Told the girl and the register- named Kyo on my receipt that I had some exchanges and returns. She did my return/exchanges - but when I got my receipt I noticed my item was not exchanged. That the wonderful discount I got the day before was not applied to a simple exchange. I asked why- and my the first response I got was it was because the size was different. I told her no- they are the same item and the size is different but they are the same price. She insisted that larger sizes cost more (which I understand) but not in this case. I asked her to please check the tags so she could visually see that the tags have the same price. It was just an exchange. She said that it was because I had a discount the day before that I got the one yesterday cheaper. I told her I understood that- just didn't understand why their customer service didn't provide a simple EXCHANGE. She asked what seemed to be a manger to get involved (Blonde, fair skin with a Dino mask). Her response was - she didn't understand why I had a discount the previous day, but it wasn't going to be applied on this transaction. She said that the difference but wasn't much ( literally a $.50 to $1). But she said I didn't have a discount on the item I was purchasing today. I was surprised by their response. As someone who has worked in the customer service industry for 16 years. I have seen people who are eager to help and provide excellent customer service and people who try to work the system. I understand that I got a small discount the other day.. and that it was a blessing- just didn't understand why your customer service didn't want to carry over for a couple of cents. My 5+++ star review for you location got turned around today for a couple of cents that your customer service just didn't want to provide. Everyone who works here have always been super helpful and super friendly. All the staff seem knowledgeable and eager to assist when looking lost, which is me going in most of the time. Lots of of variety in products for a reasonable price and you can always ask the staff about any specials, most likely the have a sale on something, somewhere. Looking for a bunny the other day and one of the staff gave me great info about the shelter they have brochures for. Love this place! read more

Daisy has been scratching her ears and shaking her head incessantly. I looked in her ears and did a ghetto medical diagnosis. Yeah...I searched the Net. It seems that she has a bout of ear mites. Now, Ms. Daisy Rae is dog dominant. She will lick you as long as you let her if you are a human, but she gets between me and other dogs and barks, like " Bring it, Bitch!" As soon as she bounces into the vet's office, her hackles go up and she is ready to fight. A cat? Forgetaboutit!! So we avoid the vet whenever we can. After consulting with Fran D, who said that I could get her some commercial treatment for mites from the pet store, Daisy and I went to Petco...you know..."where the pets go." For the same reason that she behaves at the vet, she had to wait in the car. There are always folks in these stores with their dogs and cats and I'm not up for a lawsuit, as Daisy actually thinks she is a German Shepherd now, and any other animal is a threat. I don't want to try to put someone's severed cat head back together, all the while apologizing for Daisy's inherent dislike of felines. Funny....she loves their poo, tho. Go figure. I got a bottle of ear mite treatment for her, a new toy and some treats. As I was walking out, I saw some Santa suits for dogs. "My, what a funny holiday card that would make," I thought. Then a thought bubble appeared above my head. It was a breaking news report of a German Shepherd mauling her owner for trying to dress her up in such a thing. I snapped back into reality and walked out the store. When we got home, I ran her, fed her and put the drops in her ears. She has been sleeping ever since. If I'd bought that suit for a photo shoot in my studio, we'd be fighting to this very minute read more
