You have no idea what you put me through. I kept coming back to you even after you admitted selling me ick infested fish. bought the ick killer medicine, when you should have given me a refund or at least a complimentary bottle of ick killer for the aquarium. And I kept coming back to you to buy more fishes. After three rounds of fish purchases, and witnessing all the fishes die, I am finally done. I won't be buying any pets from you ever again. This Pet Co. Has plenty of products for lots of different types of pets. I go here for doggie products. They have just about anything you can think of. The location is next to Whole Foods and in a busy shopping center so be careful in the parking lot. The prices are fair. It you see something you like or want I suggest buying it then and there as the product turn over is fast. Things can sometimes get jumbled up and on the floor because so many people are touching things and it always putting them back in place . But they do have nearly anything your pet can desire. The service has always been good and they have a rewards program. That helps. They also have a dog training program. If you can go during the week it's less crowded. Overall a good store read more

Well, seeing as I gave PetSmart a review, I feel that I must give equal time to PetCO! :) First, the positives- the grooming department. After having a terrible time at PetSmart I decided to take Mr. Pickles here. I'm happy to say that we were very pleased with the services! We've been back several times. The staff in the grooming department is friendly, especially Emerald...she LOVES Mr. Pickles! Pickles always gets a GREAT bath and a thourough brushing (for that thick-ass undercoat- he NEEDS it!). He's always happy and leaves with a big corgi smile. Now, some "icky" points. As some of the other reviewers stated, the staff in the store part is mostly a bunch of uninterested, moody teenagers....which can be a problem, especially when you are in need of some help to find something. The lines are always long as well, it seems like they only have 1 person working the register at all times. Other than that, the doggy bone bar is always a plus and they have a great selection of food and toys to keep Mr. P happy. Oh yeah, one more thing I must add...watch out for the creepy dog food salespeople lurking around in the back. I picked up a bag of Mr. P's dog food (Royal Canin- a great brand that we are happy with), and practically got tackled by this salesperson on my way up to the register. I politely declined his requests to give his brand a try...and he snapped on me, telling me that "this is what he went to college for, and that he should know what's best after all". This store frustrates the crap out of me. When we got our dog, we figured this would be a great place to get supplies because it's so close. Now, I'd rather drive to the Pet Smart in Signal Hill then shop at this hell hole. You would think a company that gets killed by its rival would make huge efforts to impress with great customer service and selection. Not at this Petco! I wanted a harness for our dog, and wasn't sure what size to buy. There were no sales people anywhere near, so I took a few to the register area. After standing there for a few minutes why the two employees talked sports, one of them actually asked if I needed something. I asked which harness would fit a pug. He looked annoyed and pointed to the smallest size. I bought it and figured the guy knew what he was talking about, he works at a pet store. When I got home, the dog just looked at me like I was insane. The harness was for a Chiuaua or a really skinny cat! Had this been an isolated incident, I may still be shopping there, but it wasn't. They are always out of the sale items in their ads and it is now crystal clear to me that their employees know nothing about pets. I'm so done with Petco! read more

My girlfriend and I were in Orange County/Seal Beach yesterday (04-04-2013). We were headed to Seal Beach and exited off of the 405 at Seal Beach Blvd and saw the huge backup due to construction. I told my girlfriend on the way back I am going to find another way to head home and that is exactly what we did. As I was driving north on PCH I observed a Petco. My girlfriend and I had to stop because of an unfortunate accident that took place the day prior. My girlfriend and I are very much pet lovers. At home we have 1 dog, 2 cats & 2 frogs. Our dog is spoiled rotten and has every toy under the sun. Our cats on the other hand are a different story. We have purchased them elaborate toys and they like to play with one thing and one thing only, the top piece to another toy that we call 'the nub.' It is basically a hard little plastic piece in the shape of a thimble with a tiny set of feathers sticking out of the top. You can throw this thing around the house all day long and they will chase it, hide it from you, bat it around, try and catch it in midair, they love this toy. Well the other day I threw this toy into the bathroom from the living room and the toy took an unfortunate bounce and bounced into an open area maybe 1/2 of an inch large underneath our sink (1 in a million type of shot) that leads to knows where, let's just call it the void. I tried everything I could to get 'the nub' out of there. I constructed a wire hire with tape at the end, I even borrowed tools from a friend and without preforming construction on our bathroom there was no way we were getting it back. To make matters worse when I was trying to get 'the nub' out, our cats sat right by my side, looked at me and meowed as if they were saying 'daddy where is our toy' they even tried sticking their arms into the void to help me, I felt bad. I kept trying to get this toy out and tried for a good hour of so with no luck. Well as we were passing Petco we figured we would stop and hopefully find something that looked like 'the nub,' luckily we found something and purchased it for only $3.99. We had to perform a little surgery on the new 'nub' to make it look like the old one. As we were looking at the all of the toys several employees walked past us and asked if help to located anything, we did not. This Petco had a huge parking lot, was easy to pull in and out of, was very clean and was stocked full of cat & dog food, treats & toys. While we were checking out I even asked the cashier for directions to the 405, I was going a new way and was a little out of element. The cashier gave me detailed directions that were easy and right on the money. We brought 'the nub' home and our cats absolutely love it. We pleased us both to no end. We are so pleased we were able to find something and that something worked out!!!!!!!!!!! So happy we decided to take a new way home, so happy we saw this place and sooooooooo happy we found something here. read more

I just wanted to update my review because the nice people working here did their best to take care of a bad situation today. A man and a woman left their dog in their car outside as I was leaving, I over heard the woman say "we'll just leave it in the car, so it doesn't jump on people", and went inside the store. The temperature my car was showing outside was 75 degrees. I waited a few minutes, and when they didn't come right back out, I went in to ask the clerks to make an announcement over the loud speaker, which they gladly did. The male owner came up to the front and apparently did not know the law, or know that it gets hot in cars quickly, which is fine, I guess and he said he left the dog in the car because he didn't have a leash with him. Also fine, I guess. The clerk nicely offered to get a makeshift leash, and brought it out to the car where they let the poor dog out and then the man became really rude towards both me and the clerk, saying we were trying to "create problems" for him and that "youd never help a starving person on a street corner." I know what it's like to work in customer service, as I worked in it for years when I was younger and I know that situation is extremely frustrating when you are at your job and you go over and above what is considered your responsibility, and then someone yells at you. I was really offended too- as I wasn't being rude to him and I was trying to help him look out for the best interests of his dog, and also help him not break the law. This Petco is big and bright and fairly clean, although every time I've gone near the rodents section, it's been anywhere from just a bit to quite a bit stinky. I've only shopped for bird needs, and their selection is pretty decent: enough toys for birds of all sizes that I actually have to debate over which to buy (meaning pretending I'm a bird and what would I do with each toy and would it interest me)(shut up), both seeds and pellets for birds of all sizes, cage necessities and even some good cages for smallish birds. You can also pick up books about your feathered friends. The actual selection of birds is poor, and I wonder how socialized birds being kept in a back room are. It makes me sad. I'd assume they have all your regular needs for cats and dogs (not just products, but they also do grooming in-store) and fish, and there's a section of the store for little fuzzy friends as well. Speaking of which, twice annually Petco holds hamster ball races...Jessica H. and I went today and I don't think the races were as exciting as we'd hoped, although I was pleased that a dark horse - a mouse named Nacho - took third place. On weekends you can adopt sweet shelter dogs from some friendly folks outside. You'd be a nice person if you did. read more

Everyone is always chipper, friendly, helpful and understanding. What prompted my review is the help from an employee. My cat gorges and vomits his food daily (he's been to the vet, he doesn't have a medical issue). I've tried every food imagineable. A female employee suggested switching protein sources from chicken/turkey to Salmon. It's been 2 weeks and he hasn't vomited once on the Salmon. This is huge since it always happened every single day for almost 6yrs. Not only does he like his new food, but he's no longer gorging, overeating or having any IBS issues. 1. Helpful staff 2. Items that I regularly buy are always in stock. 3. I've never witnessed a negative situation of seeing a dead animal or animal not properly tended to in any of the cages/tanks. I inquired once about one of the rabbit litter boxes needing cleaning and the manager took care of it immediately. 4. Food/litter prices match the "C" company and delivery time is equally fast. But with added Pals points, it's cheaper buying from Petco. 5. Line always moves pretty quickly or cashiers will always come to the front to help so that wait time isn't long. 6. Store is always clean. Bathrooms could use improvement though. 7. The parking spaces are tiny which I hate having to deal with. read more

Petco's okay. I like that they invite rescue groups to do adoption events in front of the store every week (though most big pet stores do that now). I like that they occasionally have hamster races (I only wish my dear departed hammy were still alive, I would have been the only adult competitor!). I like that they have a good selection of dog toys. I like the cute price tag descriptions of the birds in the bird room ("Hello my name is ____, I'm small and cute!"). I believe Amy K. that their bird supply selection is decent. What I don't like is that the store seems to be staffed exclusively by surly teenagers who aren't very helpful, which in turn makes me worry that the various critters they sell aren't being well taken care of. I just have to hope that the people working here are animal people as opposed to people people, so they're (hopefully) nicer to the little ratties and birdies than they are to the customers. Also, the place doesn't seem to be as well-stocked or as clean as its big competitor, Petsmart, though it's not like the shelves are empty or the floors are filthy, it's just that Pestmart seems to be doing things a bit better. read more

Finally, a Petco that gets it right! My dog requires a haircut from time to time, and the last Petco I took him to did an embarrassingly bad job. I can't even adequately describe how bad it was.. looked like someone ran over my poor pooch a few times with a lawnmower kinda bad. So I vowed never to step foot in *that* location ever again. Walking into the location in Long Beach, I let out a sigh of relief. The groomer taking my dog looked very nice, and normally I have trouble leaving the pooch anywhere if he sees I'm leaving. But she handled the situation like a pro, and off I went. Came back a few hours later, right on time, and he was ready. Yay! The cut was perfect (mohawk) and his coat was nice and shiny. It was well worth it in price for a great smelling, well groomed and manicured, happy dog :) Emerald is the name of the groomer that I was lucky enough to get, I say give her a shot next time you need a groomer but can't figure out who's worth the bucks. read more

Silly experience with the grooming department at this location. I made an appointment online about a month in advance. I received a message about 2 weeks later that the appointment time I booked online was not available because it was at 6:15 & the store closed at 8 so the groomer wouldn't be able to finish the bath. I called back and spoke with another associate who said the appointment time was fine and I could leave it as is. I even received a follow up text and email confirming the appointment again. I thought everything was fine until the day of the appointment I get a message again that the time was not available. At that point I didn't bother calling back & went to another groomer where there was no confusion. 1. I don't know why a time shows as available online if it's not actually available. 2. The staff in store needs better internal communication so I don't have different employees providing me with different responses. I have another groomer now so I can work with them moving forward. read more

Honestly, I can't expect to get the best service from a pet store, so I don't really have high expectations when I walk into one. Their selection is decent, the prices are fairly high, but I don't really have anything to compare them to yet, except Target...which is almost more convenient than trying to manuever through their parking lot. The cost for vaccinations is ridiculous, I'd rather drive a few miles up Atlantic to go to the Humane Society, not to mention the woman giving the shots was kind of weird. She also told us how to care for our cats and raise them...kind of unnecessary but I pretended to listen anyway. If anything, the prissy girl in front of us with her giant cat stuffed into a small purse carrier needed the advice a bit more. Thanks, can you get your cat some oxygen? Next day, brought my dog in at our appointment, and was giving a price that is $10 more. After inquiring why it's so much higher than what the bather quoted the day prior, they asked rudely "Who did you speak with? I don't know where you got your information, and it is not correct." Better yet, another groomer was yelling from far back at the grooming table "Just tell him that is the price. Don't waste your time!" The rudeness and poor attitude led me to decide to take my dog and leave. I wasted time and patience with the different information and horrendous service. I had the most bizarre experience when I went in to buy some African water frogs from the aquarium department. I have had these cute little guys (about an inch long) as wet pets for MANY years and they always live a very long time so they're obviously very well cared for in a heated 22 gallon tank. The sales associate told me that was too many in her opinion and actually REFUSED to sell them to me! I called and spoke to the store manager and she agreed that her employee acted appropriately and in accordance with Petco's culture. Nope. They are ALWAYS out of the Fresh Pet food I need for my dog. Frustrating, but usually not a big deal. Today I walked in at 1:30 PM and they were out again. There was an employee unpacking boxes and loading them in the refrigerator so I asked her if they have the type I was looking for. She said "oh I must not have gotten to that one yet" then WALKED AWAY. As if glancing at her unopened boxes and seeing if she had the one I needed was far too much work. This employee was moving at a snail's pace and clearly had no regard for her job or for my customer satisfaction. My growing frustration with their inability to keep their shelves stocked and now their poor employee performance has finally pushed me over the edge. So I am going to try to keep a long story as short as possible. I have 2 cats and a dog and we have been fighting some flea issues. Capstar is a great product used to kill the fleas that are currently on your pets so you can then attack by other means. The Petco store had Capstar for $39.99 per box. Petco.com had it for $29.99. A competitor (Foster and Smith) had it for $19.99. I went into the Petco store and asked them to match their own online price and was told they couldn't. I pointed out that I could buy it elsewhere for even less and was still willing to buy from them. Still, no go. I walked out, bought a one day supply at another local pet store and then ordered 3 boxes of Capstar from Foster and Smith for 1/2 of what they were charging in the Petco store. I try to keep my business local when I am able but it didn't work out this time. The only reason I gave 2 stars instead of 1 was because the woman the originally helped me was very nice and this experience helped me to save a ton of money. read more

This place is no good and much worse than any other Petco I have been to. There was a coupon today for 15% when you spend $50+ in store and it ended up being a big scam. I was going to bulk buy litter with it. I had previously spoken to a petco.com representative today and asked her if I can use that coupon and have the store price match what's on Petco.com. The Petco.com representative said yes. I called the store in advanced and told the manager I'd like to use the coupon on 3 boxes of litter and use the 15% off coupon and to place the items on hold. After driving an hour, I get there and the guy at the cashier can't find the boxes of litter. I waited 5 minutes for him to locate it. Then I was told I can't use the 15% off coupon and price match with Petco online. The online prices were cheaper than 15% off store full price so I could have stayed home! To make matters worse, they told me this after making me wait 20 minutes standing in the store during COVID while the manager was socializing on the phone and they couldn't get a hold of her. The part that really got me was they took $20 of my petco pals rewards before I even bought the litter and was unable to put it back on my account when I said to cancel it and I'll buy the litter later. I was put in a situation where I had to buy the item to get my $20 back and help the store manager out for poor service which wasn't cool. The manager also told me that in store coupon is just to drive people into the store in person and not for online pricing. Who tries to drive people into stores during a massive world wide pandemic where state officials are saying it's mandatory to stay at home unless it's essential? Los Angeles has over half a million COVID cases right now and nearly 9K deaths and it is constantly growing. Sounds like they are trying to kill pet parents to top it off... read more

Mitchell went out of his way to help me find a product I was looking for and even suggested pumpkin to help the kittens tummy. Petco veterinary services are the worst. Took my cat to the vet for his constipation problem. They cleaned my cat out, but left him full of feces all over his fur. They called me on the phone and told me my cat had fleas and needed medication. So after I bathe him because he was full of feces I also combed him out with a flea comb and didn't find one flea on him. It appears they just wanted money, because three days after my cat went to the vet they were Calling me on the phone and trying to sell me flea medicine for $135 that he didn't need. My cat does not have fleas I don't need to buy anything and they're still trying to get me to purchase the medicine. Beware of how much they charge when you bring your animals in to them for service. Also make sure that their diagnosis of what is wrong with your animal is true and not made up just for their own financial gain. I do not trust this veterinary service at all, and we will be going elsewhere. read more

Tires to blame it on the call center that they made the appointment and didn't up date - now how is that my problem - I am turning back my lease vehicle and won't have a way to get there if they didn't do it today - then I get another snid answe and I say well then why don't you pick me up and drop me off since I won't have a car - he says I can't do that - I tell him well I can't pay for a UBER TWO ROUND TRIPS CAUSE you people can't book and coordinate appointment booked on line. Bear in mind tht the spa club have to be booked on line - What a cluster you know what - they then took my dog. I told them it could take all day but they needed to take her which they did - told me she would be done by 5 pm well they got her done in record time I go back it is like 12:30 and they tried to over charge me - I complain and wanted the price I signed up for on line which was $41 which they did not honor ended up payhing $48 will never go there again - I am going to shop local have it done within walking distance or a mobile service - but Petco - you screwed me over for the last time. read more
