I've had Vital Care for over 6yrs. I've also been bringing my pups in for 8yrs+. With Vital Care, you're able to make an appt for nail trim/teeth brushing. However, I have another dog that does not have Vital Care, and because she does not have Vital Care, I cannot schedule only a teeth cleaning/nail trim for her as an appt. The only options I have for her are full baths + nails/teeth as add-ons. Yesterday we took this pup to get her nails trimmed, not even teeth brushed, *just* nail trim & we were actually turned away. We were told they would not be doing her nails that day because they were too busy. Mind you, we drive from downtown SJ all the way to S. San Jose *just* for the service & the people within the groomer, so this experience makes me extremely sad. To boot, the lead groomer knew exactly who we were/who the pup was, as we are long-time regular folks. So, if I cannot make an appt via the app, the phone goes unanswered, how is it that I get my pup without Vital Care in for a nail trim without driving 20mins each way? Also, what effort did the store make to notify Groomery clients that they were not/no longer taking walk-ins? I know that I never got any kind of communication. I purchased a 3-dose vaccine package at Petco and completed the first two doses as scheduled. Due to a scheduling conflict, I had to postpone the third dose by one month. When I arrived for the third dose, I was told that my second dose had "expired" and that a booster was required at an additional cost of $60. My dog's appointment was at 10 and I found out when I got there. She was gonna have to wait because they're very busy with other dogs.... It should not have taken 2 1/2 hours to groom the small 10 pound dog. She gets very stressed being put into a kennel cage to wait. Couple hours after I got home I noticed she was licking the side of her leg and she had a bright red sore on her leg. I'm assuming she got nicked by the razor, and now I'm dealing with putting a cone on her head and applying a safe ointment to the raw sore. Not a happy customer. read more

Came here recently to get more cat food, and we happen to stop by the bird section. I can't believe Conures cost over $800 now, it feels like not too long ago they were 'only' $300. To top that off, the cages didn't look like they had been cleaned in a while. it could've just been that we were Seeing them on the day they were supposed to be cleaned, I'm not really sure. One of the Conures was acting very odd, they were staying on the cage floor and not moving much and shaking a lot. I'm not sure what's happened with these little guys, but they didn't look like they were very well cared for, and I don't know the reason for why they cost over $800 now but I personally would not spend that kind of money on a bird that doesn't look well cared for in store. Parking is always very easy here, the employees are always very nice and asked us if we need any help, and the shelves were well stocked. Overall, this is a nice location, it was just this one time that the birds section didn't look well maintained, I hope it's better the next time we shop here. read more

Poor customer service from the manager today when trying to return a brand new never been used snuggle puppy. I was so busy with my new puppy to attempt a return in the first 30 days and when I came today (day 35) I was rudely told I'm beyond return period and basically too bad. Sorry you just lost a customer forever because so many options for pet owners out there and this place lacks the customer experience. First time here for my dog's nail trim. Never again. My dog is a rescue and very anxious about nail trimming but it's clear the stylist (Stefanie?) only wanted to get the job done as quickly as possible, while my dog jerked his head free from the loop, and after she tightened it again around his neck, almost fell off the table, which is DANGEROUS. Her manners were appalling and a random stranger would have been more cordial. I had to stop her twice as I felt that my dog's comfort and safety were jeopardized and I ultimately left without having all of his nails trimmed. This happened during a 2 min nail trim IN FRONT OF the customer,. Don't bring your pets here for a grooming if quality petcare is important for your baby. read more

This Petco location is not the closest to where I live, but trying to make a grooming appointment for my dog was turning out to be frustrating as the Petco near us was booked out almost 2 months ahead so we found this one on Blossom Hill instead. I made the appointment for grooming online and received both an email and a text confirmation. They do text you again a day before the actual appointment to confirm once again; I like that they do that but I'm sure others may get annoyed with the constant reminders; its just a personal preference for me. The groomers salon is directly to the right of the entrance when you come in. Right now, they are still limiting the amount of customers in the salon, so you must wait outdoors until the room has been cleared. This time around, they reminded me to bring in my dog's updated vaccination records and input that into their records while I waited our turn. They give you a form to initial and sign off on agreeing to any medical work to be done should the need arise (our dog is considered senior at 14 years) and double check for preferences on how short or long you would like your dog's hair to be cut. After that they wave you off and give you a call back once your pet is ready to be picked up. I walked around the store and found it to be nicely arranged. Medicines were all found in a common aisle, as well as toys for pets (separated for dogs, cats etc) and there were also some birds, fish, and turtles waiting to be taken home on the left side of the store. Typically they take around an hour to and hour and a half for my small, part Pomeranian, part Chihuahua pet but it depends on your pet and what treatments you chose for them. I just know that my Foxy always comes out nice and trimmed and smells wonderfully clean everytime. Thank you for your care and services, Petco! read more

I have two senior cats and one is having some health issues. The vet suggested a low sodium diet vs the standard Cat Chow that I have been feeding over the years along with Fancy Feast wet food. I found a very sick Betta fish there (tail is shredded, no half of fins, he totally can't swim is barely moving). I was asking about discount for this fish. The consultant in aquatic center- lady was very rude, as usual, so I was asking to call a manager. He said they can do a 10% discount, but no return if it will be dead. buy if you want, no - put it back. I asked if they were going to cure this fish, to which he replied that fish is alive now thats mean it Ok. You can see a photo of the fish and my receipt. We told her our plans to pick up our puppy last night. She helped us find good dog food, treated, crate, fence, collar, name tag, shampoo, feeding bowls, puppy pads, bed, toys & carrier ect. Trying to be understanding because of COVID and recent lifting of business restrictions, but I was not impressed with the customer service at the local Petco tonight. We have a new 8 week old puppy, and have been buying supplies the last few days. I stopped by after working a 12 hour shift to pick up 3 specific items. Most importantly, a dog house. Admittedly it was near closing time, but my work schedule didn't give me much choice today. We couldn't find anyone in the back to help with questions so we went to the checkout line. After waiting some time, I asked the cashier if we could purchase one of the dog houses on the floor. They said "come back tomorrow". Everyone was far more interested in closing up shop than selling me the product I needed. With businesses impacted by COVID lockdowns and restrictions, I would expect far more eagerness to take my money. Well, if Petco doesn't want it, I guess I'll take my business to their competitors... Edit: Thanks for the apology, "Petco Owner". But it's going to take a little bit more than a generic copy-paste response from a social media manager to get my business back. The associate who answered was very nice and helpful but when LARRY picked up, I was pleasantly surprised. He made me feel that I was the only customer he was taking care of and quickly went to see if what I needed was in stock. He then put my name on it and placed it behind the register so I can have an easy pick up. The cashier & Larry were super friendly and had excellent customer service skills. Came here a few times for betas and recently saw that they started carrying skinny pigs. I wanted to inquire about female skinny pigs, as they only had males in stock at the time, and the manager David was very helpful and even offered to call me with further information on them. Glad that he was so helpful, but the two stars is really for the female employee that I spoke to before we got the manager. We were talking about my interest in skinny pigs (she had no idea what they were) and when I told her they were hairless guinea pigs, she immediately started saying things like "EWWW they're so ugly! Why do you want one?" And "I was so worried when we got the shipment in because who would wanna buy these?", I understand that she may be slightly joking, but her opinions weren't asked for nor were they appreciated. I typically don't come to this Petco, and I definitely won't be coming back. I rather go to the one on Tully due to the management and customer service at this location. Our cashier, Monique, was rude during our purchase. She was rushing us, and gave us a rude remark when we asked how much their bags were. Upon taking this to the manger, the manager on duty didn't seem to care and was barely apologetic about it. I went in just to look around and when I got to the reptiles the cages were disgusting most had no food and clean water. The fish area was horrible dead fish in almost all of the tanks. They were all covered in Algae. It looks like they hadn't been cleaned in weeks I felt bad for the fish in the tanks. One fish had half it's face missing. Asked if there was a manager on duty and the person at the register said I have one I just don't know where he is. Some of the best conditions I've seen fish kept in a pet store, ESPECIALLY for a place like Petco. The selection of different fish, plants, and even live corals was just fantastic, and they all looked to be in good health. The only ill fish I saw was isolated in its own tank and labeled accordingly. I especially liked the cute whiteboard illustrations of the different clownfish varieties they usually had, and a big focus on the importance of cycling a tank before buying any live animals. These things aren't impressive (kinda the bare minimum), but as a lot of us know, that minimum is rarely met in chain pet stores. Very refreshing to see! Attentive staff, always helpful, always greeting customers. As someone who has worked in customer service for years, I know how hard it is to gain respect from the general public and understand how hard it is dealing with people all day. With that being said, I usually go to Petco during slower hours of the day since I generally don't like crowded places. I'm attended to in a relatively timely manner during checkout. I don't go if I am in a hurry because stores are unpredictable when it comes to staffing, just manage your time. I'm mainly reviewing the experience I had today with the grooming service for my pup. He's a big pup, 5 months old and 36 pounds.. he's a lab mix! He looks full grown! I had ZERO anticipation for what came next. I went to another location before but decided to try this location due to it being closer to home. I was greeted warmly by the groomer. She had me sign proper paperwork, gave me an estimated time of 2-3 hours, and also made me aware that I was able to get a puppy discount for his age. No one ever made me aware of this last time. Their prices are already extremely reasonable so this came as a surprise to me. I was VERY happy she made me aware of these savings, although small, very kind of her to do that fe my BIG pup. They SELL snakes and spiders as pets in their store AND THEY NEVER keep up with ordering pet food(feeders). All they ever have is pinky mice which is for baby/small snakes. Do you not expect anyone to keep their pets in adulthood or what? You are always out of hornworms and large and medium frozen feeder rats despite selling the pets that eat these as food!!! Or all your hornworms are dead and molding over. This store never keeps things stocked. I can never get my snake of my tarantula their food here. I have to go out of town to get feeders feed my snake and tarantula. Worst pet store ever. I love Petco. They always have what we need. Plenty of parking . Their online peeing is awesome. But, I question the care of their Betta fin. I have 2 already and wanted another. I have having searching and waiting for a particular Betta between all the pet stores in Silicon Valley from Sunnyvale to East side. But, I decided to take the Elephant Ear Betta home bc he looked stressed out and messed up. I wanted to give him an clean environment & stress free where he can swim and show off his tail. So, this makes me wonder often are they changing the water and how they are changing the water.
