Pretty good place to get a betta fish if you're into old fish. I got lucky and found a good aggressive half moon plakat. They mostly have veil tale bettas. If you want a good color Betta look online you'll find a lot on people who breed and they tell how old the bettas are. I got my other fancy dumbo elephant ear Betta and it was nice. read more

The service here is wonderful. The lead groomer, victor, is amazing. I have two dogs that I take to him on a regular basis and I am never disappointed, he is professional and very pleasant. I just received horrible service at this Petco location on Tully. Check in took 15 -25mins. Staff wasn't attentive regardless of appointment time. I was quoted a price for haircut & shampoo. Then at checkout, I was additionally charged for haircut & shampoo plus they also added a shave. If they want to charge for shave, then why didn't they address that when they gave me a quote at drop off. It came to a surprise for me. I was charged additional $25 . Groomer Stephanie worked on my dog. She should have informed me of the shaving charge. When I asked her about it after I saw the ticket, she said the cut & bath package is only for cutting dog's paws hair. So the website is misleading then. Does that mean w every customers who comes in for the full package bath, haircut will be charged additionally $25 for shaved? Isn't shaved part of cutting too. If it is not, then please state that on website. I told her it is on the website cut & bath. Why do you charge me for shaved. She replied to me that website is not accurate. I am very disappointed with dog grooming services at Petco & I will never return again. Please be aware. She also left hair not cut on the stomach of my dog. I checked and asked her to fix the area that she missed or did sloppy job oI am on the phone calling Petco corporate & I have waiting 38 mins and still waiting. A suggestion: a call button is needed in the Aquatics department, rather than walking up to the front of the store, to tell a cashier to send for assistance. As much as I want to support the store, the store is not staffed with enough workers, and it is rather annoying every time I come in to purchase aquarium supplies or fish there is no to help. Over the store intercom continually played is "customer service call waiting line 1". Non stop. Oddly enough there are workers who are in isles of dog food or kitty litter just looking at bags or doing whatever. All the while, seemingly unaware, that there are people waiting in other parts of the store. The grooming area is fully staffed with five or six people. Discouraging. read more

I hate this place it hurts me to go in here to get supplies for my pets and see how poorly they treat their animals. It's usually the same deal with all pet stores but I have found Petco is particularly bad as opposed to PetSmart. The guinea pigs are packed into tanks wayyyyy to small it's disgusting. A 10/15 gallon tank should not house 3 average sized guinea pigs. The reptiles here are treated much worse. Bearded dragons and leopard geckos are kept on sand which has been proven time and time again is bad for them and can cause blockages if ingested(yes even calcium sand). I've come in multiple times and never leave without checking on the reptiles out of general concern and on more than one occasion the water dishes have been BONE DRY. Like???? Come on it's not that hard to give an animal basic living requirements. I have told an employee my concerns and she acted so attacked and defensive like I just called her ugly or something. No sis.... just informing you that you're killing your weird form of live income and might wanna give them some water. I also like how they have this note on the side of the tank explaining how shedding is normal blah blah. Yes shedding is normal, but it is not normal for geckos to have shedding become stuck and have patches all over their body. This is further proof of neglect. Geckos need a moist hide to assist with their shedding, which I could be wrong but never remember seeing one in their enclosure at Petco. If they do have one it's probably not moist just like their water dish. Petco is a large enough corporation and they should know how to care for their animals if they did basic research. It's laughable, pathetic, and disgusting. Even worse you're passing misinformation on to customers about the animals you're abusing and consequently setting up these animals for a life of neglect. Even though Petco is near my house I'm going to start making the longer drive elsewhere because I can't support what I see happening in these stores. And Petco, don't even reply to this review with the usual "thanks for your feedback" I. Don't. Care. Maybe start with googling how to care for your animals and why living things require water to survive. :) read more

We brought in our boxers over the weekend to begin training lessons. When we quickly realized the orientation class was meant for puppies not adult dogs..., we moved our attention to the grooming center. Jenna was very friendly and squeezed them into her busy schedule. She said she would call when they were ready (apx 4pm). When we arrived, they looked & smelled absolutely wonderful. They're fur was soo soft, nails trimmed & teeth cleaned. She really did an outstanding job! We'll definately bring them back. Thanks Jenna! read more

Specifically for the grooming department, I honestly didn't think they did a bad job. Wasn't the best. The attitudes of the 'groomers' werent very inviting and they werent very informative with my questions as it was my puppy's first time. She seemed as if she didnt really enjoy working with the dogs. Since it was my dogs first time i asked what ways they used to calm a dogs nerves/ make them feel comfortable and all she could give me was a 'um every dogs different'. My brother decides to take my dog to the groomers to get the mats out of her fur. I agree to this and didn't think much of it. I have a Samoyed, they have a very special type of double layer coat that protects them from the weather. Sometimes it gets very hot in San Jose, as you can see from the past weekend and my Sammy's double layer coat is what keeps her insulated and cool, it also protects her sensitive pink skin from getting burned in the sun. The double layer also keeps her warm when it is cold, windy and rainy, as the top layer keeps her underlayer dry in the wet season. My brother comes home once a year from the Marines and does not know this. Stephanie, the one who groomed my Sammy suggested to my brother that there was a lot of mats near in her coat and that the ONLY choice here is to shave her. She also said it would keep the dog cool for the summer. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY WRONG. When I called her absolutely red in the eyes, livid with anger, she said that she always tells the owners or whoever is bringing the pet in about the consequences of shaving a long haired dog, but she only understands the physical/beauty aspects of it. Shaving my dog could lead to health issues! It is never recommended to shave a Samoyed, only if necessary. Not to mention that now, her top layer may never grow back correctly because the follicles may have been damaged and the underlayer grows 4-6 times faster/often where as the top layer will only cycle once a year. The under layer will hinder the top layer's growth. She proceeded to suggest that it was my negligence or lack of care that my dog's hair got so matted. Who is she to talk about how I take care of my dog. I run her every day, makes sure there's always food, water and toys around for her when I'm gone and she's always the happiest pup at the dog park. So what if she's matted, it's not something that could KILL her. Now I can't even take her to the dog park because she will get sunburned within minutes of being in the sun and that thought KILLS me; she loves the park. I can literally see her pink skin through the thin layer of fur that Stephanie left. My Sammy had the most beautiful coat because I fed her food with special oils to keep her coat healthy. ALL of that is wasted now. Lastly, she looks absolutely horrendous with the new cut. I am sorry, her personality is still beautiful, but even Sammy hates her haircut, she's been trembling ever since the shave. I did call Stephanie and express how livid I was and what a mistake she made by suggesting the shave. But I did calm down and told her that owners will take her word as expert opinion as they may not know any better. If you are in the business of taking care of pets - some people consider pets their FAMILY - please do some research before you suggest something that can become a health risk. You wouldn't suggest to smash a turtle's shell because it looked funny would you? "What do you want me to do now?" was the only response...*sigh* Stephanie if you are some sort of wizard, please give my Sammy her protective coat back. I don't want any money from you. Not even an apology, just DO NOT ever think that you are an expert. Just because you deal with pets, does not mean you have a love for them. You literally harmed my dog and put her at risk Stephanie, she now lays in a crate in the house for 8 hours a day because she can't go out into the Sunny yard. Sammy says thanks for taking away her freedom. I see it in her sad eyes when I leave for work and she's crated up. Owners, please do research about your dogs and I suggest spend a $20-40 more for someone who knows what they are doing. This was absolutely an amateur mistake. read more

Well I went here with my Mom to pick up snacks for her dam cat and the first thing I noticed when I walked in was a very ling line! I was dreading having to wait in it already and we were barely walking over to the cat section. They had a lot of treats for my mom's stupid cat and some of the liter boxes she needed. We got what we needed and went to the register where there was no line as well as no employee. So we waited and waited for someone to show up, finally someone came and rang us up! The teller was quick, but I hate to wait! Oh well, what can I say. If you need to go and actually get a teller with no line, it's great! If not expect to wait!!! read more

I never write reviews on yelp but because I had such a bad experience with the grooming at this place, I just had to bring myself to share the news to NEVER bring your beloved dog or cat here to get groomed (unless you hate your pet). First of all, I have never seen a grooming staff member that was so disinterested in her job and she looked like she hated animals. - 5 stars for Carrie (the lady that scalped my dog and made his head crooked) She said she was going to blend in his fur around his head but poor Pookie, his head was erratically chopped up. I was kinda nervous about dropping him off but I thought that I might able to peer in through the glass window to see that he is being treated kindly. THERE ARE NO WINDOWS FOR YOU TO LOOK THROUGH. After 4 excruciating hours of waiting for his grooming to be completed, I was just relieved that Pookie was still alive. Poor Pookie, he's really cold now. read more

I went in there maybe 5 months ago and completely forgot to right a review on this experience because I was allready so upset first off I went in there and this woman I don't remember her name but she was standing there holding downs dog very hard at that a yorki maybe a brown Maltese .? Yelling "SIT THE F DOWN SIT THE F DOWN YOU STUPID LITTLE B" and I could hear her from outside the door and I was like Mm .. When I walked in she just stared at me oddly because I was looking at her like wth is your problem " so I called the manager and he said he'd personally groom my dog and he apologized for what she said .. But I really didn't seem like he gave 2 bits anyways my dog had some matting on her bottom half so I really needed to get her in I picked her up and she had a cut and I'm talking about a pretty bad cut on one of her nipples and her tummy , I treated her at home but the next day she had puss coming out of the cut worried I took her to the vet and they said the groomers must of been using unsanitary equipment and had to have her put on anti-biotics and wrapped she she wouldn't gnaw on her cut I also pre -appointed her next grooming and they just called me this morning saying " THIS COUNTS AS A NO CALL NO SHOW AND THIS GOES AGAINST YOU JUST SO YOU KNOW " in a rude snarky voice None the less IM NEVER TAKING HER HERE EVER AND NOR DO I RECOMMEND ANYONE TO COME HERE HORRIBLE don't even deserve one star! read more

On 02/24/15 I went to go buy some fish tank decorations and supplies such as filters, lights and water conditioner. Anyways, everything was fine until my 5 year old daughter had to use the restroom, so I told her I would wait for her outside the restroom since I had all the merchandise with me. She screamed my name and I put everything on the floor and went inside the bathroom, I was disappointed to see the floors were covered in dirt and on of the restrooms had a sign that said "out of service" my daughter was in the stall next to that one so I went in and she told me there was bugs on the floor, I looked at the stall next to it and there were thousands of what looked like crickets walking all over the floor and on the toilet and in all corners. It was the most disgusting thing I ever seen. I know it's an animal store but I prefer restrooms to be clean and animal free. My daughter said she never wanted to go there again. I'm sorry to say this but petsmart never has this problem. read more

Yesterday for the first time, I brought my puppy for check up with the vet. The vet supposed to start at 3:30pm. It was a long line waiting. We were told that the vet was running late. One staff lady even told us that the vet was already on his way. We waited for 3 hours!!! And the vet never showed up. In my opinion the worst thing it was the lie!!!! I have two fluffy breeds. A Maltipoo and a Shih tzu mix. I am very picky about my babies and want to ensure they are groomed by a quality groomer in a safe & caring environment. I hesitated taking my dogs to Petco, due to past unsatisfactory experiences, but my dogs were in need of a hygienic groom and nail trim, plus I needed a groomer close by. On a whim, I called Petco on a Saturday and Ashley cheerfully answered the phone. She said, "bring them in". So I took them. Jenna was the groomer and she did a fabulous job. She listened to my requests and honored them. My Maltipoo looked handsome and my shih tzu looked good. My shih tzu was heavily matted because my husband got her wet and didn't bother to brush her afterward. For those of you pet-parents who have fluffy breeds you know the babies have to be brushed out or else. Well needless to say, I was worried that she'd have to be shaved down. Jenna did two excellent cuts on my dogs. My shih tzu looked very pretty. She was nicely trimmed and both my dogs will be comfortable for the summer. Jenna has a genuine love of animals and this is a very important trait in a groomer. She is gentle and friendly and these are the qualities that I need the groomer of my dogs to posess. My dogs were there a few hours. Jenna called me to let me know that my shih tzu would be a lttle longer due to the matting. While they were there, I called twice to check on them and each time I called Ashley was helpful and welcoming. After the dogs are done they are put in a kennel with clean-cold water while they wait for their owners to pick them up, which is a good thing because it's important that my dogs are comfy until I get there. Another very important detail: they did a good job on the nail trim, they did not forget the "hidden" nail in their paws like some other groomers have. It's all in the details and my dogs looked and felt great and that's what matters. read more

This review is specifically for their grooming. I bring my dogs here regularly to get the nails clipped and/or filed. Sometimes it goes well and staff are great, other times it doesn't go so well and staff are rude, impatient, and seem so annoyed about doing their jobs. I'm willing to overlook those not-so-great days because their nail services are done on a walk in basis, which makes it very convenient. So imagine my surprise when I walk in today to get my dogs' nails clipped and I'm told they're not taking walk-ins for a service that is provided on a walk-in basis. As a regular customer, I should not be denied serivce for a walk-in nail clipping because you are short-handed, especially when it seems one groomer was willing to take them and one wasn't. I don't expect staff to drop everything for me, but give me a wait time instead of telling me no. Thirty minutes? No problem, I'll happily look around and shop while I wait. Sounds like a win-win for all, but I guess some people can't be bothered to go the extra mile and serve their customers. read more

I've been to this store twice for my 4 pound dog to get his nails clipped I usually go to petsmart on curtner they are awesome I love that place. Just walking into this store makes me nervous but it's the closest to my home. The last time I came I spoke to the manager because I disliked the way my dog was being pulled by his little legs and the lady who helped us was totally rude to us since the beginning. She was just super frustrated at the fact that my dog was shaking and scared as most dogs usually are when they go for anything there. My point is I hate this place and do not recommend this place to anybody!!!! The manager and the staff from the grooming salon are unprofessional especially the girls! Off the top of my head one of the girls who has been rough with my dog is Alma. I usually give good reviews but I wanted to see if maybe after talking to the manager the next time I came in it would be better but I was wrong. read more

I had a really nice employee help me. I think his name was Tanner. I was looking for hamster stuff because I was planning on buying a hamster as my first pet. It was difficult to find any employee at Petco, but Tanner was able to help me. He gave his preference on which cage is spacious for a hamster and told me all the information on expanding the cage if needed. He showed me where to get everything such as bedding and food. When it came time to picking out the hamster, he allowed us to pet him as he held him outside of his cage. Tanner described everything I needed to know as a new hamster pet owner. I go to this pet grooming salon only for Stephanie because she always provides exceptional service cutting my dogs nails and she always greets and remembers them and makes them feel comfortable. However I came in several times when she wasn't working, and Alma took care of our dogs. BUT she was so rude, she does not talk to you, or your dogs and always looks unwelcoming. When I handed her my dogs, she pulled them roughly by the neck and threw them on the floor to walk to the station. When I got my dog back, one of his nails was bleeding and his neck was red. When I brought him back and told her, she blamed my dog for moving too much. If you go here, ask for ANYBODY but Alma. She won't treat you or your pets well. read more

Hey guys. So I first brought my baby to this Petco because he was looking pretty shaggy. On recommendation I went to Stephanie and, let me tell you, she did an amazing job. My dog, Rufus, is really skittish around new people. But, as I watched through the observation window, I saw that he was calm and didn't once try to nip at her. When he was finished his coat looked sleek and clean, his nails were bossed, and she even gave us some treats to award him for being a good boy. Since then I've recommended her to my whole family and we keep coming back. She's that good! So if you are looking for someone to give your dog a new look, ask for Stephanie. read more

My boyfriend had scheduled an appointment for my dog to be groomed over the weekend. He called twice and they gave him two different days and times so I called later that afternoon to confirm. No one picked up so I decided to call the next day. Whoever answered the phone told me his appointment was the next day and I repeatedly asked just so I could be positive. I moved my whole work schedule around and arranged for my dog to be picked up while I was at work. The next morning I called because I was confused seeing that Sunday's are open later but my appointment was supposed to be at 9am. When I called, they informed me that his appointment wasn't that morning, it was on Monday. I was very disappointed because this is exactly what I was trying to avoid. I explained my situation and the employee was very apathetic and just asked "so should I just cancel tomorrow's appointment?". I felt it was rude & inconsiderate. I said I would try to figure something out and call back later. I couldn't make any adjustments because I don't even live here, I live in Davis. I schedule his appointments here because they normally do a great job. When I called to cancel later that day, I waited a total of 15-20 minutes and no one picked up any of my calls. I called multiple times. I'm very upset with the lack of customer service and misinformation that was received. read more

Petco helped us out with a special cat food order/problem. They had a cat food supplier who changed their ingredients, causing one of our cats to get sick/upset stomach. We informed Petco who contacted the supplier. The supplier confirmed ingredients had changed. Petco helped us source another supplier, and I had discussions with the supplier why the should use the original ingredients. They agreed and made changes back to the original; but it took months. Anyway, things are back to normal. read more

My daughter and I went to this petco tonight and I had an arm load of things for my guinea pigs and rats. We stood in line for awhile and when we got up to the register the clerk took a personal phone call and ignored us. We stood there for awhile waiting and he then started to talk to one of the other employees. I could not believe how poorly we were treated, especially when we were buying so much stuff and had stood in line for so long. The clerk was so rude that we just walked out empty handed. This will be the last time I will ever set foot in this store. I think it is really sad that all the good pet stores are going out of business in this area because of all the petco stores and this is what we are left with to shop here for our pets.
