I regularly shop here for our cat. Their litter prices are unbeatable and I like their Whole Hearted pet food brand. It's great for him and he loves it! I took my PWD to Petco on Wetmore after having bad experiences at a couple of other groomers, so I was nervous. Jodi did a fantastic job, my girl was happy, and she looks great! Broadway and Craycroft location is the worst place to go. If you're not looking as messy unorganized isles of food you're overhearing a manager being rude and condescending to their staff . if you're not looking at poop and pee on the floor everywhere you're getting jumped on by huge untrained dogs. If you're not already frustrated by not being able to find the food you called earlier to ask if it was in stock, you're getting told by a manager that they never carried the food anyways and a badly trained employee just lied to you on the phone. Cara is a groomer at the Petco on Whetmore. She can be a nasty piece of work. She added almost $40 of extra treatments to my dog's bill without telling me. My grooming bill was $98.00! When I asked why, she got very mean and defensive, telling me it was already on the order from the last visit, and that it was her manager's fault. When I asked to speak to her manager, she got even more upset, and yelled at Brandon that they aren't allowed to give out information about when managers are on duty. I knew she was flat out lying. I told her the last time I brought my dog in, she had special things done that were not the norm. Why would they assume they would do that everytime? Brandon was very nice and tried to calm Cara done. But she has terrible manners! Make sure you don't have her do your dog! She may tack on extra fees and hope you don't notice, like she did with me. read more

I was super nervous since I've heard a LOT of bad grooming stories (in general not from this specific store). Shellie took great care of my fur baby and made me feel at ease and she let me know that my boy was in good hands with her. She treated him like her own! Vetco is a dog vaccine service within Petco. Their dog vaccine service was listed as being open 4-7 pm. Store associate confirmed these hours and told us no need to make an appointment and walk in is fine. We show up at 6:00 and they refuse to give our dog a vaccine. Apparently it ends at 6pm even though we were told 7pm. It was disappointing but I wasn't too upset until the Vetco clinic lead said if we walked in at 5:59 it would have been totally fine and they would have given our dog the vaccine but since we walked in at 6:00 there was "absolutely nothing she can do" because of policy. Like 1 minute makes all the difference? And the only reason we showed up at 6 is because they said it closes at 7. That's when I realized she's arbitrarily upholding the policy when she could have just helped our dog get a vaccine. The miscommunication is on them and they should have done what they could to correct it. 1 minute doesn't make that much difference. She treated us like we knew it closed at 6pm, showed up at 6pm, and wanted special treatment. If 5:59 is totally fine then 6:00 should be fine too considering the fault lies with the store. I suggest going directly across the street to ABC Pet Care clinic for vaccinations. That's where I normally go and they actually care about helping dogs. Vetco cares more about upholding policy based on an arbitrary 60 seconds and not acknowledging or correcting their own mistakes. Only tried Vetco/Petco because ABC was closed on this day. read more

The staff at this grooming salon changed completely a bit ago. I have now been there twice and have joined their grooming program as I REALLY like these new groomers! My 12 yr old border collie is treated with respect. Her heart condition makes it difficult for her to be stressed. They gave her breaks and she does really well! Smells great and hydration package has restored her fur. She looks great! My second dog needs to be given the shed treatment. It is wonderful and my house appreciates it! He looks great. The other 2 border collies look wonderful too! I highly recommend them! read more

I was shopping in ear shy of the cashier and over heard 2 talking about how they can't wait for someone to loose there job. So I feel bad for Jessie because Leena and Angel don't like you very much. This is the saddest little pet store. Under stocked, or with stock sitting in the middle and at ends of aisles with no one to be seen, I had begun to wonder if the place had been abandoned. Maybe this was just the post-holiday lull? Not sure. Tons of markdowns, which was great. Food, treats and toys at 15 to 50 percent off throughout the store, from what I could tell. But I could find no help. I hadn't been to this location in years, and it seems the quality has deteriorated quite a bit. It has a dull, somber feeling. Eerie even. While looking for an employee, I even saw some dude sitting alone in the grooming area staring off into deep space nine. Oops! I mean, deep space. Ah, Star Trek! Like he was lost. Or had been abandoned. I think he caught me staring out of concern. And what made me both sad and annoyed were the dozens of beta fish swimming in their own feces. So many of them, stacked on shelving seemingly with no attention or care given. And while the parakeets looked like they were mostly enjoying one another, their cage reeked. Terrible smell. The staff was friendly, but I was dissatisfied with my dogs cut. It was nothing like the short Cockapoo picture I showed her. If the groomers are inexperienced with certain breeds they need to let the customer know! It was very choppy and uneven around her face and neck. Noticed several bleeding scrapes on my dog after a visit to Petco's grooming salon. I went back to Petco to talk to their mgr and I noticed my dog shivering & pulling away, trying to leave the store (he had never reacted this way before), it broke my heart and I began to cry. The mgr's position was "Unless a vet can assuretaine these injuries came from us, we will NOT take responsibility or remove the groomer that handled your dog" I called their corporate office, but they failed to return my calls. read more

Given, this is out of probably 6 stores i've been to in the Tucson area. This PetCo location on Broadway and Craycroft is clean, organized, and always properly stocked with the pet food items I usually need for my dog and cat. The staff are friendly. I have not yet had a time when they were out of a certain wet food I normally buy. I used to shop at Petsmart but as a company they kept changing their pet food products, which is terrible for animal diets. Plus I would get lame responses such as "the manufacturer discontinued this item," eventhough I was able to find the products I needed online on the manufacturers website. The PetCo store on Wetmore and 1st Ave is ok. The biggest challenge I had shopping there was they were often out of some of the cat and/or dog food I normally buy. The people there are nice but the store was often unorganized. read more

The front part of this store is very confusing. I went in to pick up an online order. I was not greeted. It was busy at the registers. A young gal was sweeping the front. I didn't see an obvious place to stand for my pick up, but I did find a small sign attached to the backside of register 2, " Order pick up here"which put me between the two registers. I inquired about my online order and the clerk at register #1 said "WHAT? Well you're in the right spot!". (Obviously irritated at my query) He said this so loud that the gal that was sweeping came to my rescue with a device in her hand and checked me out. Definitely not a great experience. read more

Service here is really hit or miss. And unfortunately, with so many other similar stores out there, service really does matter. Like all things in Tucson, it seems people either have a loyalty to Petsmart or to Petco--and I was raised a Petsmart girl. However, this location is pretty close to me and sometimes it is easier to come here. Example of good service: Came one night after looking at a fish tank at Petsmart that was on display. It was on sale but had a huge crack and we asked some questions about that crack and didn't like the answers we were given. So we drove over to Petco and had *wonderful* service from an employee that brought us a loading cart, helped us pick up a few different items (stand and lighting for a tank). He was very helpful and even told us to bring the vehicle right up to the front of the store and helped hold the cart and load. SUPER service. Every other time: No one around. One employee at the front that is trying to call for others to help (if you need something like feeder fish), and then there will be another employee wandering around completely ignoring the cashier calling for help. You'll go up and say "Hey, can you help me get some feeder fish?" and they'll say "Oh, I'll call someone to help you" which is... odd... because they're not doing anything at all. Really, if they put the bags out and a net, I could catch my own feeder fish. I really could. And I think that if they're not going to offer decent service then that's really what they should be doing: Let the customer do it on their own since we're not around to help. (I never, ever have this problem at Petsmart where employees are jumping on you to help you once you walk in the door). I want to like this store. I really do, considering I've had good service here (that one time). But they really need to work on service. read more

I got there 30 minutes before closing and wanted to purchase 3 shrimp and they told me they already closed aquatics and refused me service! This location is so unprofessional! I have not been treated this poorly in a while. I want to remind people that the first employees a customer encounters, is the most important. Management's choice to place this individual at a cash register, demonstrates the lack of management ability, people skills, and lack of skillful judgement of character by this store's management staff. ...... I walk into the store, the male cashier refused to acknowledge my presence until I was standing at the actual cash register, even though he was facing me as I walked in, mere feet from the front door, and no customers waiting or even near. Without greeting me, I asked if they carried Frozen feeders for snakes. His response expressed the intent of disrespect, while the words said left him the opportunity of plausible deniability. He replied, "I don't think so." So, I asked "is there anybody that knows for sure? " As two females walk toward the front door, he responded, "she does " I want to note that I was sure that I bought him beaters from this store before, and I was more asking for assistance in retrieving them. Because there were two female employees, where one is being referenced, I purposely asked both indirectly. I was treated with common courtesy, but I was left with only directions, and without assistance. I couldn't get my dogs bathed because they had just been microchipped. I asked for their faces to be washed. Couldn't be done. Considered part of a bath. I was told they could be spritzed. Doesn't appear to have happened. They trimmed around their feet and I see a big sticker in the fur. The dogs are brushed daily, but I didn't see this sticker until the feet were trimmed. I would have thought they would be thoroughly brushed. They said they would spray them with a scent. I smell nothing. The gal grooming other dogs seemed far more friendly and knowledgeable than the girl that groomed my dogs. Won't be returning! read more

We were looking for a very specific type of outdoor bed for our dogs. We looked in three other places with no luck. We tried Petco and they had exactly what we were looking for... or so it seemed. We purchased the last two they had and went home excited our pets had new beds. OK, so you know when you buy something and it looks like the box has been re-taped? My spidey senses were tingling that someone else had bought this and returned it. I open the box, pull out the parts and begin to assemble the thing. There were no instructions (this was another clue it had been returned) but it all seems straightforward. After a slight struggle (which always happens to me when I have to assemble something) I get the bed together. I place it on the floor and our big dog is happy to oblige laying on it. Thing is, even though the box said it would support a 100 pound dog (our dog is nowhere near 100 pounds) the dog is hanging off both sides of the bed and the thing looks like it's about to snap in half. This is clearly not gonna work. I put all the parts back in and re-taped the box. Off I go back to Petco to return the beds. I had saved my receipt and had even asked about their return policy when I paid. They happily took them back - the only question they asked is if they were defective. I did appreciate not getting grief about the return. We were pretty focused on our first visit and just got in and out. When I made the return, I did get a chance to look around the store. I saw that they have by-the-pound pet treats. That's a pretty neat concept. I will have to go back to see if they have other stuff our spoiled dogs really don't need. read more

So I decide to try out their grooming services for the first time and god was it the worst decision I could have ever made. My dog groin are was unprofessionally cut and it ended up causing his private area to get red and swollen and with an infection. I went for grooming and ended up having to take him to the vet(paid by them) and having him on 3 different medications. First time coming in to the store and last time coming back. The staff should be better trained so this doesn't happen to other dogs. read more

My favorite pet store In town, I ALWAYS ALWAYS get amazing deals here. They price match and their online prices are a lot of the times like half of what I'd pay In store. For certain things of course, mostly collars, clothes and toys. They also have great clearance and when you bring you dog in you can get any free treat from the treat bar! I drive 25 minutes to come to this location even tho I live about 5 minutes from Petsmart. All the employees are pretty nice too, except one younger guy who argued with me over price matching but I told him how it works *eye roll* and he eventually did it. Went in to check out their tropical fish selection and ended up walking out after a couple of minutes. In the short time I was there I saw at least 8 tanks with multiple dead fish, some pale and fungus-ed which means they have been laying there a while. Their diseased guppies (almost all guppies sold in any store have parasites etc. but these looked extra bad) are $4.99? If I am going to buy diseased fish I'll go to PetSmart where at least they are a bit cheaper and offset the cost of medications. Today was my last visit. I kept going here because It is very close to my house but the amount of time I have to wait to get anyone to assist me became too much. Today I walked in looked around and found someone she said she would be there in just a second she started sweeping up. I waited for a couple of minutes and then I saw her walking back from the other side the store with a box in her hand. At that point I just left and drove a bit further to get what I needed. This store has revamped their appearance recently so it brings to mind my original tip: the quality here waxes and wanes depending on who is staffing. Currently, the aquatics is slightly better than average, but you will still find floaters on most visits. The betta section has expanded greatly (note to staff, it's pronounced "bet-ah" not "bay-tah"). Shopping here is analagous to shopping at Walmart... A little bit of everything. Beware when you purchase live critters, but you're pretty safe with foods, toys etc. Don't expect expert help (be pleasantly surprised when you get it), and educate yourself on products/animals you wish to purchase. read more

UPDATE: Never heard back from Petco, took my dog to Petsmart instead! They gave me a military discount, AND you can schedule appointments online (so much better than sitting on the phone calling for 2 weeks in advance)! I have a small dog and I took him to his grooming appointment 2 weeks ago and there was a large, loud dog there that was barking so loud that the groomer was having to wear noise cancellation ear plugs because it was so bad. This obviously made my dog nervous and scared, so he got placed in a kennel until it was his time to receive his bath. This large dog was still getting serviced so when they went to retrieve my dog out from the kennel he growled. They then called me and told me I had to go pick him up because they could not groom him because he was showing violent behavior. When I got here the large dog was still barking loudly and being difficult with the groomer, so it is no wonder. All the other dogs in the kennels were also nervous. I had military duty the next week so my dog then had to go two weeks with his nails uncut. They actually also told me that he can only be seen on the expedite service where he is not placed in a kennel from now on, and they made a comment on his profile about him being violent and only being able to be seen without being in a kennel, which they don't provide this service on the weekend! I had gone out of town with him and they told me this was placed on his profile so he can only be seen on weekdays... this is so ridiculous. He is a jack russel/chihuahua, not violent at all. The large dog that was heavily and loudly barking was what caused him to be nervous, however, his profile probably had nothing about this so his owner is no longer inconvenienced. Horrible customer service. It's very hard to have time between a full time job and being an Army Reservist so this makes it extremely difficult to get my dog what he needs. Do not take your dog here, they will make comments in his profile that all the petco locations can view so you will no longer be able to get grooming services anywhere else because of them. read more

We were looking around for more variety of fishes and fish supplies. Though small, it had much more fishes than the other place I've been going to. Stephen, one of the associates, was very helpful and answered ALL our questions. Even on our second visit a nice lady helped us and she was just as good as Stephen (never got her name). First off I must say, I am hard pressed to give them 3 stars because about a month ago I was in the market for a new furry critter (preferably a small one with easy clean up because I live in a small apartment) and apparently I should have done my research first. I went into this petco and picked out a gerbil, the store clerk who had come over to to pull him out almost grabbed him by the tail (not by accident) but he didnt so i let it go, paid them, and left. Two weeks later my gerbil wasnt eating or drinking or using his wheel, and hadnt even looked at his habitrail tubes! So we had to take the poor fella back (and if that clerk had indeed been there when we did, i would have certainly given him a piece of my mind!) Come to find out gerbils who arent kept in pairs tend to get depressed and they need eacother for basic grooming purposes, i was made aware of NONE of this! I couldnt get another gerbil so i ended up with a hamster, and my experience with her has been great, she doesnt even nip! I love her, and am thankful to the petco personnel that helped me pick her out, so it`s still a happy ending! read more
