Im glad i took my puppy, popcorn for the first time to get groomed. At first i always skeptical weather to take him at a petco because throughout the years ive heard they get hurt or mistreated. But that wasn't the case here. The staff was friendly as soon as i came in. Jess was popcorn's groomer and let me tell you! She took good care of popcorn and i know dealing with a crazy wiggly puppy can be difficult. I really loved the way he came out super soft and totally like a completely new dog. I've been here multiple times buying food for my pets. This is a great store, just misinformed workers on reptiles. Some reptiles are on the wrong substrate, the pamphlets are wrong as well. If you want real answers. Watch YouTube videos on how breeders take care of their reptiles. I once bought a crested gecko here who was around 2-3 weeks old. I could tell that it wasn't fed properly. I was surprised to see that Review Support immediately responded to my review: "Do not purchase raw dog food here!! I purchased Instinct Dog Raw Brand (beef flavor) for my dog and have been doing so for the last year. I gave my dog her normal amount of food at the usual time and all appeared well. Fast forward to the following morning... DEAR GOD, there was diarrhea EVERYWHERE. I kennel my dog at night and she has NEVER had an accident. But she did this time. It was all over her dog bed, the inside of the kennel and out. I immediately called her vet and after describing the time frame, the diarrhea and her dog food I was told the food was most likely left out to spoil and then placed in freezer. Shame on you Petco, I will not be back." I followed their instructions minus providing the SKU, why would I keep a bag of rotten dog food?? But, I still held out hope that they would do right. I haven't heard a peep from Petco, no "how is your dog", "we're so sorry she was made sick", or "let us replace the new dog bed you had to buy". For a company as old and as large as Petco I expect more and find their immediate response followed by silence pretty appalling. I want to acknowledge and give my biggest cuddos to the two staff members at this store that take care of fish/aquatics, long hair tall and shorter guy Ishmael (both Hispanic I believe) who worked today. Both have helped me tremendously the last couple weeks. Because of them I now have a pretty balanced tank from the plants to the fish and down to the substrate. These guys were soooo patient with me, honest, and provided me with lots of info and tips. I'm a difficult customer I admit and these guys passed the test. I got everything except the tank and filter from this location. You two guys are great. Glad I can come back any time to get my water tested too. My go to spot. I'm very happy. Came to pick up some things I needed for my dogs. Gary at register, was really kind and friendly. He was very helpful when I asked about the new VetnCare facility located inside the store. He recommended I go make an appointment for my dogs vaccines. When I approached the facility, there was a female at a computer who did not acknowledge me. When another worker came by to ask her a question, they both looked at me and said nothing. Again, I was not acknowledged by the second person. I decided to walk out and leave. I was one of the people that were happy with the service, our groomer left and moved out of state, recommended other groomers to help us going forward. I called to schedule an appointment. Whomever that scheduled the appointment booked the wrong services, I called to get that corrected, they called me back really late around 7 pm, only for the receptionist to give me lame excuses that my appointment was booked correctly and that they cannot change the appointment as they are busy, I told her I always got the services you are trying to convince me that you cannot provide, and that since you guys made a mistake booking correctly, you should correct it and accommodate me, the receptionist started yelling at me, speaking over me, saying I didn't book your appointment it's not my fault, kept yelling in my ears and snd raised her voice that my ears hurt! Didn't give me any chance to speak as if she got into some tournament to win at yelling and insulting me, then guess what when I started to speak she hang up on me! Seriously what kind of a person is that?!! Did she even find anyone that teaches her manners, how to speak to people, how to be polite? I believe no! That person is incompetent, rude, impolite! There is no way in hell to put her in a customer facing role! Or even around dogs! I won't trust leaving my dogs somewhere that person is around. She is clearly impolite and needs anger management as well as some decency classes! Petco doesn't care about customers anyways as they will always find people that book their services and they will still make revenue and profit so basically it doesn't matter if they treat couple of people really bad! My cat has recently been throwing up and the Vet inside told me to come in the morning, I got there with my cat with a fever, and was told they can't help him, and that I should go somewhere else. A simple suggestion as to where else I could go would've made a difference, but the veterinarians inside the vet are extremely difficult and seem uninterested in the needs and support of my animal... I'll be changing my pets location as to where he is cared for now. read more

I've been to this Petco a bunch of times as my kid enjoys looking at the fish, critters and birds. We enjoy coming here as the prices are fair in general but doesn't beat Petclub. I still buy fishes on ocassion which brings me to something I noticed.... I wanted to buy a fish and the guy helping me with the black long hair who is always there, got water from a different tank not connected to catch my fish. I don't think that's good as the water is probably not the same temp or chemistry. I let it go as they have a 30 day guarantee. I hope they see this as a poor practice. Another thing I saw fishes dead and stuck on the filter intakes. They should remove those asap! In any case the fellow did ask if I had a tank that can house the fish I wanted and showed concern. Decided to come here because online they said they close at 10, and the Petsmart I usually go to closes at nine, so I made the extra trip to find the doors locked and the workers inside staring at me angrily and waving their hands at me (pointing to the sign outside, which I obviously didn't think to look at because I figured in 2020 a giant corporation like this would have an updated online presence). Apparently they close at nine despite the fact their website clearly states they're open until 10pm so don't waste your time coming here after 9 unless you want to waste gas and have the employees shame you instead of simply informing. read more

This Petco has regular Saturday clinic hours for vaccinations. I just got a 2 month old puppy who's due for his second round of shots. I went up to the lady administering the shots on Saturday 4/6 and asked if my pup needed these today. Not only was she super rude, but she was unknowledgable. She turned us away stating that "even though his shots are due, you have to wait a week since you just got him." I tried asking more questions but she shooed me away. I just called an actual pet hospital to verify and they said that was completely inaccurate and unprofessional. I scheduled a vaccination appointment right away. Petco should hire staff who know their stuff and who are committed to actually helping their customers. I'm a new dog mom and I am anxious to understand what my pup needs to stay healthy. This experience was extremely upsetting! read more

Let's just start this off with: I have 3 dogs, who are spoiled rotten. I love that this location has so much variety for toys and accessories - but the manager here is CRAZY. Margarita is CRAZY. My other half and I got a fish tank as a gift because everyone knows we were looking into starting a salt water tank. We received a 6 gallon but we needed something bigger - because it's difficult to maintain smaller salt water tanks so we went to make a quick exchange. Sandy was kind enough to help us out while her rude manager asked 99 questions, ripped the box lid open and proceeded to interrogate me as if I was on first 48. My other half who's not one for rude customer service - walked away - for all our sakes. I continued talking to sandy while we were continually interrupted by Margarita who by now had a line of approximately 7 people - that she wasn't ringing up because she was too busy interrogating me. Finally she had no choice but to go ring up the line of customers, but of course while shouting "GET HER DRIVERS LICENSE! DONT FORGET HER DRIVERS LICENSE." How embarrassing and how rude. I was treated like a second class citizen, like I had "fugitive" written across my forehead. So anyway, I finish my transaction. My other half grabbed about six pamphlets from the fish section so we can go home, get our tank ready since you have to get it running for about a long time in advance and then we were gonna sit in bed and see and choose what type of fish we could get. Well, all of those plans went down the drain as we were chased out of the store only for the pamphlets to be snatched out my other half's hand and yelled at about how corporate rules say we can only take one Cuz they are expensive. Okay - I just told you I'm starting a saltwater tank which cost $1000 minimum to start that I just spent at your store. Not to mention the tropical fish I was planning on buying from your store and the dog food I buy on almost a monthly basis.... Anyway. We got into the car and we were both just rubbed the wrong way. We decided to call the store and simply state that we were embarrassed and upset - Margarita responded very aggressively saying that she did not embarrass anyone. So, we told her we were were going to call a corporate - and we did. Definitely going to either support a different Petco or completely dismiss corporations completely and go to other family owned pet stores such as Mike's Feed in San Leandro or Connies in Castro Valley. The few dollars extra at a small business is definitely worth being treated like a valued customer. read more

Okay, so this cracks me up because none of the pictures included on this page are of this Petco location. They seem like stock photos of Petco as a corporation, but this is nothing like what this Petco actually looks like (unless it got seriously remodeled in the last couple months). The store is usually semi-disorganized. It is not horrible, but what's worse is when you need help finding something, it's difficult to find anyone walking around to help you. It's another one of those things where the people at the checkstands are essentially the only people you see working there, so it's difficult to get someone to actually help you out on the floor. This location does have a grooming center, that is connected to the store but also has a separate entrance. They have a dog sitting area as well, but I've never used it because I think I looked in the past and the prices were outrageous. The other thing is whenever I see a bunch of dogs in there, they seem to just be running wild all together. They definitely look like they're having fun, but I don't know if that's what I'd want to pay a bunch of money for my dog to do while I'm away. This store has a decent selection... There are items that they have run out of fairly often. And when I'm there more often than not, I look up the prices of items they have here vs what's on Amazon (I have Prime, so free shipping), and the prices here are usually significantly higher! It's a bummer because it'd be nice to be able to just stop by here and pick something up instead of having to wait for it to arrive in the mail. That's when I usually have to weigh my options of easily accessible vs price. One thing I can say for sure if the people that work there really do seem to genuinely care about animals and I think that's sweet and important. I'll continue to buy things here when their prices are better than other places or if I need something for my dogs asap! read more

Brought our 5 month old corgi here to be groomed (bath, nail clip, and brush). I know he is a bit feisty because he does not like to have his nails clipped. In any case, the lady here threatened him with life time ban if we brought him back and he acted the same. She could have just said "oh, we couldn't clip his nails" instead of verbally berating me in front of everyone for 5 minutes. I would've understood. I know no one likes a nippy dog. I called to get grooming prices and before I could finish my sentence, the person who answered the phone tonight, cut me off and said the grooming dept. is closed and she doesn't know the rates. Excellent customer service here from Bri & Ishmael!!!!!! I recently went to to Petco in SJ (Tully rd) and had the WORST experience. There was a promo price listed for a tank and stand set and the associate literally argued with me saying it wasn't a set when the sign said "tank and stand ensemble". Not to mention the bag with all the supplies such as heater, filter and etc was ripped open, since it was the last one, i asked if there was additional discount or something since clearly it was tampered with. The associate said nothing was wrong with it and ripped it completely open to show me the contents. We ended up buying the tank bc it was late and my daughter wanted it, but I felt like the employee made me feel like I couldn't read properly as I. Said it looks like the stand should be included. The next day I went in to the UC Location because it's closer to home and I needed a few more accessories of our aquarium. I was originally helped by Ishmael who I pointed the sign out for the tank and stand sale. Bri came as well to assist and I explained the situation and my experience. They took care of me and confirmed I was correct! Such a relief and the made it easy! It was a $70 stand the SJ store wasn't going to give me when I clearly paid for the "set". I absolutely love this place hands down Jess is a great technician. I inherited a mini schnauzer that came from an abusive home and also has with some medical issues. Jess not only took great care of her she always makes it personal. she remembered her needs and fears and took her in with great care. Although I havent really used any other technicians when I go in, its always a pleasant experience and everyone is friendly. It does get busy and I have Noticed it is easier to make an appt either in person or over the phone because online only has limited spots. read more

Pet Grooming: Maria is the best! She always remembers my dog's name and says, "It's Dunkin'!" whenever we walk into the grooming salon. Maria does a nice round shape on my miniature schnauzer's beard, pulls his ear hair, and shaves extra close on his fanny per my request. I like that she handled him when he was a young puppy and continues to build rapport with him, so I think he likes her. She talks to him and praises him as she grooms him, to make him feel comfortable. read more

Went in to grab some crickets last night. While we were waiting my daughter was checking out the lizards and cats by the door. After we got the crickets my daughter told me she thought there was a dead lizard in one of the cages. So I went to check and sure enough it was dead. Poor thing looked like it was dead in there for quite some time. It had crickets eating it and it was super sunk in and stiff. I told the employee and was told that she was just playing with the lizzard earlier and he was fine. I couldn't believe she lied like that. The poor thing obviously was dead for a while. They have cats that are sleeping in their own litter boxes instead of the beds that are in there. That's never a good sign. Most of the animals there look like they are not being properly taken care of. It's horrible and sad. I don't even know what more to say. If you love animals this place will make you upset. read more

This location is always well stocked and the staff are always helpful. In the past I have gone to one of their competitors up the street only to find that many of the shelves are empty. I love pet stores. I'm one of those people who squeal every time I'm in one, running around looking at all the different animals and squealing some more. Despite my innate love for pet stores, I'm going to try and be as completely unbiased as possible. Location: This Petco is conveniently in Union Landing, where you can do all your shopping at once and maybe stop at a nice restaurant for a delicious meal as well. Trust me when I say this store is MASSIVE - it's around the same size as Office Max (also in Union Landing). They manage to keep the interior clean despite their policy of pets being allowed inside the store. You would think that there would be poop or pee everywhere but it's relatively clean. Customer Service: The negative aspect of this store. The employees don't seem like they actually know anything about animals or pets - just random people who needed a job. You're probably going to have a tough time in this store if you need to get anything real done besides just shopping. They're fairly clueless. Overall, I don't mind this store. It's great for a browse and the animals here are so cute. However, if you're here for something more serious concerning your pets, try elsewhere. read more

I really like this store! They have an AWESOME selection of toys for dogs and not just the little crappy toys that break easily...I'm talking some STURDY toys for the Big Boys!!! I love it!! But mostly my 4star review is for the grooming. Granted, I have a lab so they don't have to cut his hair or anything but the folks there have ALWAYS delivered service with a smile! They genuinely seem like they love dogs and those are MY kinda people! My dog is a BIG BABY and he howls like bloody murder when I leave him and I always feel sooooo guilty about the trouble he may cause...but when I come back he is beautiful and obviously well taken care of. Pet stores are great! This one is just average. I've seen so nasty shizz in this pet store that pets have left behind... -__- I love looking at fish here though! They have salt water fish, and they are so pretty. You can find nemos, dorys, and bubbles here! I like buying bunny supplies here! Especially the hay. The hay is usually on sale, and you can use your pals card to earn points! :) Pro tip: Get a rewards card even you don't feel like you're going to use it! After deciding we would never take our dogs for grooming at the PetSmart in Fremont anymore, we've become loyal patrons of this Petco in Union City. Their grooming rates are a bit higher than I wish they would be, but they do a pretty good job with my boyz. If your dog just needs a trim, you'll save nearly half your money by asking for just a haircut, instead of the standard bath and cut. Each of my dogs usually cost me nearly $50, but when they just got a haircut without a bath, it was only about $25. Needless to say, saving $50 is totally worth the hassle of bathing them myself! read more

My little one is such a drama queen and her nails get really long super fast, so often times when I take her in Katie has to be extra careful and she ALWAYS is! The last time I was there.. Maybe two weeks ago I was a bit frazzled and it wasn't until after the nail trim that I realized I left my wallet in my other purse at home I felt super bad and offered to leave my phone as collateral and the staff seriously laughed and said they knew I'd be back so I ran home and returned with my wallet, a happy dog, and a smile on my face. i had visited this petco before and have not had an issue before, Unfortunately this past Sunday i took both of my dogs to get groomed, then i pick them up i realized they were both scratching continuously( which they dont ever do) i thought maybe the shampoo gave them allergies. When we get home i realize it continues, finally decide to check both very careful to find they had fleas, from 7 years of having my dog he never had fleas before. Its crazy to me how they do not cleaning correctly and not doing a check up before the dog is admitted to see if they have fleas. worst thing is i called so many times to let them so they could do a deep cleaning and avoid this from happening to other dogs, because it truly has been a nightmare, but they will not answer or talk to me, just put me on hold. Ridiculous they should be the ones providing a medicine and a shampoo for me. will never return. read more

So my bf, my brother and me went to Petco's to buy a couple of fishes and a parakeet. We asked an employee by the name of Miguel to help us. He seemed frustrated and unhappy to help us but i didn't want take that to consideration. Anyways, we found a blue parakeet that we fell in love with but my bf wanted to double check if he was able to keep a bird in his apartment. He took a little bit too long, and i apologized to Miguel for my bf taking to long and he was so quick to say sure. Fine i didn't take it personal, So my bf asked him to give us a moment, so we can discuss it more and not waste his time. Miguel had a card board box in his hand. He said sure and walked away from us. My brother was over by the Parakeets, when Miguel threw a box towards him and it landed on the ground. Mind you my brother is 10 years old, he came running to me telling me the man almost hit him with a box. I went over to the Parakeet section and saw the box on the floor. Pissed off, i went lookibg for Miguelbut couldnt find him. I wont spend a dime here ever again nor will i have any of my friends or family come to this store. I worked in retail for over 10 years i know things happen to piss you off. But dont take it out on your customers. Be positive and optimistic about your day whether its good or bad.
