Pete's is the in-house bar at the Intercontinental in N'Awlins. I had some credits so I drank here. Little did I know the service is fantastic. Marion was a super cool bartender. Dead as a door nail but great friendly bartender. It's in the back of the Intercontinental Hotel and I think most of their business comes from breakfast. The breakfast buffet was good, but not great. It was definitely very expensive. Dinner was ok with very limited selections. The pasta dish was good but we mostly pasta with only a couple pieces of chicken and slices of sausage. Pete's is my go-to spot for breakfast in downtown New Orleans because I eat low carb and their Keto Breakfast Taco plate is fantastic. Finding a low carb breakfast in New Orleans is harder than high school calculus --which I barely passed-- but these tacos are awesome. The kitchen goes the extra mile... they toast the tortillas on both sides (like I would at home) and they stuff the tacos with lots of good, low carb stuff. The manager stopped by and checked on me. I asked her "what kind of tortillas are these?" She replied "low carb," which is good enough for me. The side salad was good, too! This is the first time I've ordered breakfast in a nice hotel and didn't have to give the waiter a list of modifications (ie, "no toast, no potatoes", etc). Come on mannnn.... ‍ $26 for two eggs, bacon, fried potatoes, an English muffin, and coffee? That is an insane price for such a simple breakfast. There is a better option. $23 for their breakfast buffet. Considering that I wasn't going to eat anymore than what I paid $26 for, I probably would still have had less of a receipt shock if I had chosen the buffet. The host was friendly, pleasant, helpful, and informative. The waitresses were friendly and attentive. The only issue that I had was when I handed the waitress the bill book with my credit card. I watched her set it on the bar where the register is located. The cashier had been there the whole time. It literally sat on the bar for 10 minutes with other customers coming and paying their bill there. After watching several customers come and stand over my credit card on the bar, I got up and handed it to the cashier that didn't seem to be in any rush to ring it out while it sat there in front of her... We hosted a Meet-n-Greet at Pete's on a Thursday night for our frat brothers and their wives during Xavier's homecoming. Given only a days notice for 12- 18 folks, they handled that with ease and pleasure! Sweet Carla was a whiz with the drinks and Sam was efficient and attentive with food and seating. Wish there was more variety or NOLA flavor choices with food but we only offered appetizers so pizza and charcuterie board served us well enough; and they were tasty. Bill was easily settled. Good time had by all. (We actually went up to our rooms and left a few brothers to finish the night!). A great night! read more

I decided to check out Pete's Breakfast Buffet. I was not disappointed yet I was not impressed. It was your typical breakfast buffet bar. The wait time to be seated was a little bit too much considering the size of the restaurant. After being seated it took a few moments for the server to come over to introduce herself. This should have let me know how the rest of my visit would go. The server was not present as much to the tables in her section. I am not sure if they were short staffed but I didn't see a lot of servers...well enough to accommodate the large number of guests. There was a small variety of food options to choose from. For a standard breakfast buffet it was ok. The area where you get food was small so you were always in the way of someone trying to grab food. There were only two omelette stations so there was a line for omelette as well. They also had scrambled eggs, grits, potatoes, French toast, fruits, cereal, muffins/pastries/etc. The food wasn't wow worthy. It was just ok. For the cost, it would have been nice to have more food options. The mimosas were costly as well considering the size. If you want to go for the buffet please go as early as possible. There are many other breakfast restaurants in the area with cheaper prices and more variety. This place has a lot of potential and is visually appealing but the overall experience fell short. read more

We stayed in the Intercontinental, so eating at Pete's was just easy and convenient. We actually ate here twice and had a positive experience both times. The service was very good - and very friendly. The quesadillas were above average in flavor and size. Good stuff. They only have one burger on the menu and it is fantastic. Seriously. Probably one of the better burgers I've had in a long time. The french fries are also notably good. But the stand-out of this was the chips and salsa. You get three different types of salsa -- a sweet, a slightly spicy and a... well... something else. I don't know how to describe it, but it was saucy and tasted great. I'm not really sure why the Hotel Intercontinental keeps this place open. Yes, it is still open despite the rumors. It used to be a decent (3-star) lunch place that served above average bar food. After the Storm, they shut down and eventually opened it for evening drinks. I've walked by it after it re-opened...and just kept walking. The wood-themed decor makes it seem like a faux English pub, though they never really served English pub fare. I think the management has no idea what do with this place, so they do nothing. CBD restaurants and bars don't do so well. Why? You're in the biggest culinary and drinking district on the planet--all within walking distance. Who would want to go to a mediocre hotel bar? Some hotels have gone with name chefs (Luke across the street) or make a swinging upscale bar with live music (Paramont at Ritz-Carlton). But most just gave up. Like turning the bar into a coffee shop or making an upscale Asian-Fusion place into a lunch burger joint for CBD workers. The website says it is open "4pm til late". How late is "til late" anyway? It's not til Karen arrives, that's for sure. Ugh. Either put some money into it or put a fork in it. read more

BUT DO GO FOR THE "SECRET" $10 LUNCH This is a darn good off-menu deal (M-F 11-2pm only). Today I chose a stuffed Philly cheesesteak with a good sized side salad, excellent service. Other choices included a side of gumbo, personal pizza, chicken salad or club sandwich (see menu pics). There are also daily specials most notably chicken fajita enchiladas, $11 on Thursdays. WAY BETTER CHEAPER NEARBY MENUS: Indicative pricing for Breakfast: Ruby Slipper (2 egg platter: $9, Pete's $15); Merchant (all crepes are less than $10, Pete's all egg dishes are over $15). Lunch: The Store (shrimp & grits $10.50, Pete's $15); Company Burger (cheeseburger and fries $12, Pete's $15....or for $1 more go to Justin Devillier's Balise and get what is considered by many to be the best gourmet cheeseburger in town). I love Pete's. I go for lunch, dinner, happy hour. The bartenders are fabulous. There are only two beers on draft, though (NOLA Blonde and Abita Amber), but they do have plenty in bottles. The pub is spacious and swanky, not cramped like another restaurant within the Intercontinental Hotel. The food is fabulous. I've not had a bad thing. My favorites are the gumbo, drunken shrimp and grits, the pizza, any salad. Their burgers are thick and juicy and the fries are crisp. $10 lunch special where you pick two items. Good sized portions. Skip the buffet. It's a whopping $25 a person which they don't have listed or posted anywhere in sight. My fault for not checking the prices first, but I figured it would be on par or less than the menu breakfast entrees. Ugh. The grits were too salty, scrambled eggs were not seasoned, they do have lox and capers for bagels and a selection of fruits including berries. The honeydew melon was very underripe and hard to eat. They have decent bacon and a waffle / omelet station. Orange juice was too concentrated, definitely not fresh. I would expect much better for the price. If this were any day other than Christmas I could have found a place open nearby for much less, and higher quality. The only thing going for it is the convenience. Avoid, or at least order from the menu if you must. Or wait for the other hotel lunch restaurant to open if you can. read more

We watched the second half of the Super Bowl in the Pete's Pub temporary location. (The overall hotel is undergoing major renovations.) It is a small room with many chairs and a bar set up. The crowd had thinned out by that point. There was one person at the bar and one server on the floor. I never received my water order, although my friends with alcoholic drinks seemed to have no problem getting refills. My group of 8 started to wind down as people headed up to their rooms for the night. They left us to settle the bill when we were ready to go since the server hadn't been around in awhile. For 10 minutes, we had to chase the server down twice (1 - to request the bill, 2 - to remind him that we requested the bill). The second time, the server needed us to re-cap our entire group's order. After another 10 minutes, the bartender came out to us to hand us our bill. After another 5 minutes, we got our card back. The whole production to pay took us 25 minutes, which is ridiculously inconvenient. I wouldn't have minded as much if the room was overly crowded. Also, the fact that we had to re-cap our group's entire order was annoying since it's not like we were keeping tabs on the individual rounds of drinks everyone was getting. I sincerely hope this service issue improves in general and not just when the new pub opens up. read more

Very pricey for the quality. We ate there last week. The food came cold. The meat was barely cooked and it was a tough cut. The soup had overwhelming amount of bell pepper and not hot. So, this lovely diamond in the rough is the perfect spot if you work in the CBD and you just want a quiet lunch before you have to go back to your hectic life (and even have a nice little cocktail or wine if you want to be a little bad). I popped in and the sat in one of the SUPER comfy table booths, it was a really laid back vibe playing some really nice songs. I ordered a glass of Chard (because yes it may have not been five but it was one of those kind of lunch breaks) and I had the steak quesadilla. The quesadilla comes with black beans. cilantro rice, and this spicy sour cream. The black beans were really tasty (which says a lot because I don't care for black beans) and the sour cream had a good twist, but I was not a fan of the rice. The staff was really nice, they were helpful with suggestions on what I should get etc. The prices were about the prices you would pay for lunch in the CBD. I believe that you will enjoy it if anything for a nice cocktail. read more

I came to pete's for lunch recently and was pleasantly surprised. I had the romaine salad and the club sandwich from the Pick 2 $10 lunch menu. The romaine salad was simple - romaine, shaved parmesan flakes, and dressing. And it was a good combination. The club sandwich had turkey, ham, bacon, and cheese, and was on ciabatta bread. We got in late to New Orleans and the other hotel restaurant was closed, so we really had no other option. Pete's had a few other tables filled (it was Christmas night) and 3 or 4 people at the bar. Pete's is my go-to for drinks with co-workers after a long day at the office. The bartenders are very attentive and personable, making you feel right at home whether you're a regular or a tourist just passing through. They offer a great lunch special during the week: $10 for your choice of an entree and either a starter or dessert from a preset menu as well as $2 Tito's bloody mary's. Sometimes the food can take a little while to come out, but don't let that deter you. You can still get in and out in under an hour during the CBD lunch rush. read more

Sadly, Pete's is closed during the hotel reno. I'd say the patrons are more the people who work in the PanAm building more then the turons. They have a decent Happy Hour with free food from the hotel and a pool table. Word is Pete's is on the list for reno as well. Decided to try Buffett. Mediocre food for $27! I won't make that mistake again. Waffles were good but bacon was hard and eggs barely warm. I really loved this place and was eating here once a week with a friend, but I think they must have had a clean out of employees because the quality of server and food has gone way down since July/August. Last time I was here they had one other table of 8 and they took 10 minutes to bring us menus then came back another 10 minutes to say that because of the other big table our orders cannot be put in for another 20 minutes for lunch, so we left. Then today, we went for my mom to get a second chance to try their burger which is usually awesome. It was over cooked, burnt bacon, and soggy bun and undercooked fries. The waitress only came at the end to check on us with the bill never came to refill our drinks I had to go to the bar and ask the guy behind there and we were the only people in the restaurant. I really want to like this place, I've given multiple chances hoping that the service would improve. It is a chic if not gaudy restaurant inside the Intercontinental Hotel on Poydras. They have a pretty solid lunch special and a decent burger. The problem is the service is horrible and it can take a while to get food out. I've yet to stop in for happy hour where I heard the bar tenders are better. I really hope that management gets it together for lunch.
