My experience here was FANTASTIC! I went here for lunch with my friends and we had the best time of our lives. The food was delicious as we shared the platter, the restaurant its self was beautiful and very welcoming, the service here was fast and the prices here are affordable! The manager was the best he helped us with our dessert and he was very polite and friendly. We will be definitely coming back soon. For food i recommend basically anything, their chicken wings are to die for! The cake and the cookies were delicious, they were the cherry on top of the day! There's not much open after 10PM in this queens area so we walked into this diner. And honestly I have nothing bad to say it's a basic diner with basic diner food. And I ordered straight carbs which are hard to mess up. The whipped cream definitely was what made the French toast good. The strawberries weren't very sweet but I guess what can ya do. The French toast itself was very soft which I liked my friend said it could've used more structure. Sweet potato fries were good maybe a tad overdone but nevertheless fine. Maybe could've used a bit more salt but with the sauces provided they were good. That being said the service was great! Our waitress was super friendly and recommended me what sauces to try with my fries. I will say my friends that got meals with meat seemed to say that they were lackluster at best. read more

Pete's Grill has decent food. The major issue is: they're limited where they deliver food orders to and will tell a person to use GRUBHUB for delivery. They do not like to send a delivery person to the area of Long Island City because the delivery person is on a bicycle. Came recently to try a few things on the menu with a friend. I have always wondered about this spot because it is the CUTEST diner ever. I am team diners and have always been team diners since I feel like its a dying business in the city. We need more of them and for them to stay. Especially since the prices here were fairly affordable and the staff was super friendly. They had some kind of a prix fixe deal going on so we started off with some salad and calamari. Both were pretty standard but tasty. For our mains we split a lobster carbonara ravioli and a steak. HIGHLY recommend the carbonara anything. That sauce is divine. The steak was pretty good. I feel like it could have used more seasoning but also I'm the one eating steak at a diner. Their sandwiches are bomb. Their chocolate cake is delightful. Although, fair warning that it's a mix between like chocolate, maybe lemon and vanilla with birthday sprinkles and syrup all over it. It's a party in your mouth. Pete's is a good diner. Better diner food than most, friendly service. It's important to the neighborhood and I've gone many times. But today I just wanted to get the hell OUT of there and never return. The reason was not Pete's fault, mostly. I was seated right between two tables, each of which had a very loud person having a meal while screaming into a very loud speakerphone, with the person on the other end of the conversation screaming back. I appreciate that only very rarely is a restaurant willing to deal with obnoxious customers. It can't be easy. I love finding restaurants where the owner cares enough about the non-obnoxious patrons that phones are prohibited or at least limited. A local and good diner. I came here shortly after I returned from holiday travel and beforehand had only gotten delivery from here (which went well and the food was plentiful as well as good). There is a bit of private parking here though you'll want to have a small car for this lot. Service was attentive without being overly pushy. It's a nice enough diner that's not mega fancy but the food is definitely solid and it's a cool diner that's worth an in person visit. The portions were big and price wasn't ungodly. I must have passed this diner a thousand times but have never eaten here for whatever reason. I think they've added another part for seating in there parking lot so there are less spots to park but there is street parking and metered parking all in the area. As one of the few dedicated diners in Sunnyside, Pete's Grill has been fixture in the neighborhood for years. For the longest time, they were the only option for late night grubbing and they were an easy 24 hour option after a night out at the pubs or nightlife in the city. They've been an easy source for delivery and takeout and I love the fact they've turned their small'ish parking lot into outdoor seating. From the outside, it's super charming. The diner doesn't have that old school feel that one would find in neighboring hoods and the logo has become semi-iconic at this point. Their slogan ("The Place to Eat") is a bit of a head scratcher, but I guess it worked for me since I've eaten here so often. The food is the run-of-the-mill diner fare. Everything that I've tried over the years has been average at best, which does the job for a quick meal or for late night munchies. They were better close to a decade ago, but as the prices increased, somehow the food quality was less impressive. The burgers feel like they've shrunk a bit, the pasta options are close to dreadful, and I'm still trying to figure out the deal with their limpy salads. As a general rule of thumb, I tend to stick to breakfast items only because most of it has to be made fresh. (#1) At one point, this was a brunch destination in the neighborhood. Their Irish breakfast was an easy go-to, along with the banana walnut pancakes, smoked salmon benedict, and the occasional omelette (as long as it's not burnt!). Service has been hot and cold, but generally speaking, they're super fast on the delivery and have been good about getting food out in a timely manner. I came here with my best friend when she came to visit home. Her son and her husband and I enjoy enjoy sitting in the window watching the cars and people go by on Queens boulevard. The staff here was pretty nice and the food wand the food was pretty decent as well. Typical old-school joint, quintessential Queens, New York. Of course I kept it simple, grilled cheese sandwich with fries. It came with a little cup of crisp and fresh coleslow. They got burgers and breakfast foods in all sorts of other delicious things. I made the right choice to have had lunch at Pete's Grill/Pete's Diner and Grill today. Years ago, diners were omnipresent in New York, but today they are a rarity. There were quite a few people having lunch, which is always a good sign. I was greeted by a courteous hostess who showed me to a booth. In the menu were reasonably priced lunch specials, but I decided to have a hamburger. A hamburger says a lot about quality and chef. To begin, I ordered a small cup of chicken noodle soup. Excellent soup, with chicken and fresh vegetables. After, the waiter served me a large hamburger on a toasted sesame bun, lettuce and tomatoes, and a delicious crunchy sour pickle and coleslaw. The meat was medium rare, as I ordered. I asked for mashed potatoes to replace the french fries. I enjoyed it all. Water and coffee arrived very quickly and the brew was nice & bold! Restroom was clean and fully stocked, big fan of paper towels vs blow dryers, so that's another win in my book. I ordered a chicken parm sandwich for delivery and it came super fast, within 15 minutes which is great but it was the WORST sandwich I've ever had. The chicken was chewy and not edible, there was little sauce and the mozzeeella was not even melted. It was clear the chicken was old and slapped in the microwave. The fries were cold. I've ordered from here before and was actually pleasantly surprised at how good their blackened tilapia was. I loved all the options for sides and the amount you get for your buck. Unfortunately, today I have to agree with some of the other reviews that mentioned inconsistency. I ordered the same thing and was very disappointed. One thing I will say is that I requested via Grubhub that if they had French onion soup, I'd appreciate that as my soup instead of their regular chicken. I am giving them three stars simply for granting me that request. Typically, I'm quite used to restaurants ignoring the requests you make in the notes. However, that being said, the whole soup was pretty much oil which was really unpleasant. The tilapia was the saddest thing I've ever seen and looked like scraps more than a meal. The grilled mixed veggies were so bland, not even salted a bit and the fries were a bit undercooked. I ordered out to not have to do any work but I ended up re-seasoning and re-cooking the tilapia to make it taste like well... anything at all. I started the calamari which was a single serving of thick cut rings with more than enough marinara sauce. My steak was edible and not tough but could have used some more seasoning. My friend enjoyed her ravioli which was a generous serving. I ended up taking my strawberry cheesecake to go after I took a bite there; the strawberries were not soggy and were the best part of my meal. Solid dining experience. Maybe I just didn't order the right thing at Pete's... b/c I didn't love my visit there last weekend. We were looking for a spot for some food and figured a diner would be the best bet, right? Eh - it was ok. Typical diner look. Typical diner fare and prices. Typical chaotic atmosphere. I ordered their 'Country Fresh Eggs (Any Style)' and a side of ham* for $7.95. I asked for scrambled and ended up getting a flat fried egg. These eggs were not fluffy and didn't resemble 'scrambled' at all. And then they proceeded to sit in my stomach like a brick the rest of the day. Ugh. Next to those eggs were two slices of ham. Not a ham steak - which I feel is very typical for diners - but two slices of deli ham that had been heated up on the grill. Eh. I think we can do better Pete... Not all was lost tho - the homefries were good. Made on a flattop w/ peppers and onions, I liked the crispy edged a lot. My galfriends also ordered breakfast - and for the most part enjoyed their meals. One of their 'sunnyside up' eggs came back undercooked... so we asked to send it back. It came out a few minutes later looking better but still looked a bit undercooked. Service was quick tho. And the wait staff was good about refilling water cups. A very nice neighborhood place. Good menu with some level of creativitiy in what they offer within the framework of being a diner. Most of the wait staff is very freindly and outgoing to everyone, and they are enthusiastic about what they do and the fact sometimes enthusiastic that you are in their restaurant. Like any fast past restaurant, they might have an off day now and then but the on days are the norm. Free wifi is a nice perk of eating here. During the pandemic, in a makeshift cluster of tables in the parking lot before they constructed the enclosue, I had a remarkably delicious broiled hailibut that I still remember as one of the best meals of the pandemic summer, and it was on par with restaurants that were fancier and more expesive. If you live in the neighborhood around Sunnyside and eastern Long Island City, I strongly recommend giving this place a try. And if you have the same kind of experience that I have had, you just might become a regular. :-) read more

It was by pure chance we came in here for breakfast on a Saturday morning The place was popping, but the service was OUTSTANDING!!! We had a short wait, and then the manager totally blew our mind!!! My fiancé is a HUGE fan of the punisher. And after seeing his shirt (which featured The Punisher) she sat him in the EXACT same spot the Punisher sat in!!! My fiancé couldn't have been more excited. I ordered chicken fingers ($11) and curly fries ($6) and I received FOUR (?!) 4" chicken fingers that were clearly from a big bag of frozen ones. The fries were uninspired and not crispy by the time I got them. Combine that with the $3 delivery fee and I can't imagine why I would ever order from there again, or visit in person. I can do the same with Swanson's and a microwave. Extremely disappointing.
