Finally decided to visit petit potato after seeing them everywhere on Instagram. I got a bunch of dishes, ranging from savoury to desserts. So get ready for a long review! For savoury dishes I tried their chicken cutlet omurice with curry sauce, sizzling spicy chicken and Japanese deep fried tofu with mushroom. The omurice did not do it for me. The fried rice was bland and the egg was just a fully cooked egg on top, didn't seem too authentic to me. The chicken cutlet was crispy and tasty but the curry sauce was nothing special. 5/10 The sizzling spicy chicken was alright, again nothing too special. I've had better elsewhere. 6.5/10 I really enjoyed the tofu dish. The broth was tasty but on the light side. The tofu was also very crispy, and the mushrooms were a nice touch to the dish. 8/10 For desserts I got their durian cake and matcha Japanese soufflé pancakes. This may be the best durian cake I've ever had and I'm not even exaggerating. This cake is not for the faint of heart! I can really taste and see real durian meat used to make the cake... so much so that I almost forgot it was cake! 10/10 The soufflé pancakes were fluffy and tasty but the egg flavour is on the lighter side. Overall, I prefer the fuwa fuwa pancakes more. 7/10 Honourable mention: their lattes are actually quite good... they attempt at latte art but I think more practice is still needed. Overall, a tasty latte with some bold coffee flavour! 8/10 Overall, I would recommend Petite potatoes mainly for their desserts. I wouldn't expect too much from their savoury dish thou. read more

Decided to check out Petit Potato's new location at the Yonge and Sheppard because we like the Leslie and Finch location, and WOW. This location is so much bigger and the decor is very modern. You can tell they took time to work on the aesthetics so you can get your blogger photos/videos ready. The lower level is for takeout and upstairs is dine-in. We came around 7:45pm on a Saturday and we were seated immediately. Their menu is similar to the original location. We opted for the seafood udon in sake soup ($15.99) and the tender pork rib ramen ($12.99), with house special grass jelly with coconut as dessert ($10.99). The seafood udon soup was pretty plain and there wasn't much noodles. Although, they did give a generous amount of seafood. The pork rib was pretty good, but not spectacular that we couldn't get somewhere else. Our favourite part was dessert! If you like asian desserts, this dish is for you! It has grass jelly, peanuts, taro, tapioca and other yummy goodness all mixed in coconut milk. Soooo good. We would definitely get this again. Staff here were very friendly and service was pretty good. We got our food within 5-10minutes. Overall, we think this is a great place for desserts and appetizers/small plates with small or large groups of people. If we could, we would rate it 3.5stars. Steamed Rice Noodle Roll In Hk Style Surprisingly stayed hot for a long time. Had to ask for the sauces to dip on the side because they don't give enough to start with. Popcorn Chicken For a Taiwanese restaurant I was expecting a good amount of five spices in the taste but this was heavy on the starch/flour they used. Not appetizing at all. Takoyaki Barely any octopus inside and a lot of dough. I didn't know what to expect anymore Black Truffle Mushroom Spaghetti Very very plain dish. I love truffle spaghetti and you taste the faintest amount of truffle in this dish. Pork Cutlet Omurice W/ Curry The rice is decent. The pork was sooo dry! It was like cardboard. Great place to go to if you're with friends and you want to go to a place with a huge variety of dishes. I would say that Petit Potato is moreso a dessert restaurant though. The food that we got lacked depth. They were just bland overall, especially the mains. The squid ink risotto and the sliced beef teppan pasta were the dishes that we were looking forward to the most but unfortunately they just fell flat flavour-wise. The gomaae salad was actually better than the pasta dishes surprisingly. Same case with the takoyaki balls. The dishes were pretty generous. By the time we were done we had no more room for dessert. I suppose if you were to come here, order the apps instead. Then dessert. I'm down to come back - I just wouldn't order mains next time. I remember hearing about Petit Potato through one of my classmates a couple years ago. My first thought was what kind of restaurant name is "Petit Potato"? We came here after a foodie couple we looked up to kept posting and raving about Petit Potato's Empress Walk location after they had already came here 4 times back-to-back in July 2021 alone. Location: 4.5/5 Yonge and Empress Walk, right across from Mel Lastman Square, there is validated parking for 2 hours, if you dine here and give them your licence plate. Otherwise, there is ample street parking within 5 mins of walking distance. Accessible by highway and TTC. Decor: 5/5 Love their entrance! Feel like a VIP walking in!it is classy but not over the top. Perfect for photo ops! Did not expect the teal walls, paired with blue seating, wooden chair legs and frames and marble tables. Kitchen has an open window concept as well. Value: 4/5 Price is reasonably low, but their mains are mostly affordable due to being carb heavy. For example, Uni spaghetti and scallops had a handful of scallops and caviar sprinkled on top, but no actual Uni just sauce, but then again you cannot really expect Uni for $18. The squid ink risotto has 2 pieces of each seafood: mussels, squid rings, scallops, and shrimps, but then it had a mountain of risotto Portion size is adequate, but my beau and I prefer eating less carb, but then again it is called, Petit Potato, so we should have expected the carbs in hindsight... The bingsu, which cost just as much as our mains, was huge. Picturesque plating, all IG worthy especially their royal drinks. Taste: 4-5 Everything is on point, but nothing exceptional. They have book size menus for both their food and drink options separately. However, it is hard to get their attention and they do not check in on you much. It is easy to know when our order went in, because everything is time stamped on their receipts. Saw this place all over Instagram and had to come check it out! My friend and I walked in for lunch on a weekend with no wait time. The menu is SO large and there's such a variety of things you can try. We ordered 3 appetizers and two main dishes. All in all, I would say the food is pretty alright. You can get what you expect at a reasonable price. The portion size is also pretty decent. My friend ordered the salmon pepper Tepan rice which was pretty cool. It comes out on a steaming hot plate and you add the sauce/cook the fish and stir fry the rice yourself . I would say it was tastier than my pork cutlet with curry! The Taiwanese beef wrap with satay sauce was also pretty good and I could recommend that as the flavours were nice. The chicken cartilage was exactly as expected - like popcorn chicken but with a crunch. I also got a sparkling lychee drink - but it wasn't anything special. Came here for lunch on Sunday with my husband and friend and was so impressed by the variety of tawainese/japanese/Chinese food offerings available. They had an entire menu dedicated to fruit drinks and cocktails and desserts alone! We ordered a pitcher of strawberry peach tea (similar to fruit tea with basil seeds) honey garlic wings, (they didn't have the baked oysters we wanted), Uni spaghetti ( which was delicious and I could taste the Uni cream) and ribeye omurice. The only unfortunate thing about our meal was the rice I ate was raw and the steak which was sous-vide was too mushy for my taste. I also didn't care much for the sauce which wasn't memorable. However, I enjoyed everything else about our meal. For dessert, we ordered the affogato which came beautifully presented like all the other dishes. Had lunch at petit Potato on a Friday afternoon and it was spacious on a weekday. They had clear acrylic dividers between tables. I would say the decor is French inspired bar diner style. Their menu is fusion and a variety of desserts, drinks and food. We had the business lunch menu that includes salad dessert, cold/hot tea and edamame beans with the main. This was a while ago but it just bothered me for so long that I have to write this. My friends and I went to this location and ordered using the QR code provided. My friend used the Chinese translation menu and ordered a soda drink with 'Agar jelly' and no extra sugar. She even re-confirmed by looking at her order history on her phone. Which is "寒天" in Chinese for Agar. When the drink came, the topping was something like a brown sugar boba/tapioca and really really sweet. So my friend called the waiter over and explained to him that she ordered Agar jelly. The waiter went back to the kitchen and looked for the order ticket, which was in English and it says "Brown Sugar Boba" and shows it to us. My friend explained to him that the word in the Chinese menu means a completely different thing and definitely not Brown Sugar Boba. The waiter of course tries to explain that it is what was order blah blah blah so my friend just asked them to take the brown sugar boba out and she'll drink it without it but advised them that they should review the menu translation cause it's incorrect. Swear we were all being very nice and calm the whole time talking to him. Waiter still refuses and said "Well... we are in Canada" If that's not racist I don't know what is. To make matter worst, the waiter is Chinese too :) Says a lot about the service in this restaurant and will definitely never come back. Food wise, honestly after that, can't really comment on the food and environment. Reconsider if this is the place to go if you just want a nice place to chill with your friends. I had the chance to visit Petit Potato for a casual dinner with friends. First and foremost, the interior is very nice, especially compared to the prices they charge in their menu. This looks like a place where each person would have to drop $40-50 for a decent meal, but NOPE - I got a bowl of decent ramen for $14. Top that up with a bubble tea for $6, and that's dinner right there! The food itself is pretty decent. For a place that doesn't specialize in ramen, the bowl of Tonkotsu Ramen I got was better than I expected it to be. I also had the Popcorn Chicken as the appetizer. It was equally good, if not better. It had the combination of super crispy batter, soft and juicy chicken, and a kick-ass dipping sauce. The portions are plenty, the prices are good, and the general atmosphere is inviting, even for something like a family meal. Whenever I'm uptown again, I'll definitely consider return to Petit Potato. We did do family style as it gave us many options to pick from. Karubi Ribs: sweet, soft and savoury. We liked them. Said they come in 4 but we got 6. So yay to free. Takoyaki: hot and steamy and great with the sauce. If you're not a fan on 'fishy tasting dishes' pass on this. Tako Wasabi: SOOOOO good. It is raw but extremely yummy. You order using your phone which may save some time and the place seems to be busy most of the time especially during peak hours. First thing I noticed was the beautiful menu for food/drinks and deserts. The photos of the various dishes are simply beautiful and so far the food was equally delicious. They offer many different dishes. Usually I doubt restaurants that offer too much. Often a large menu has an impact on the food quality. One thing I noticed when trying a noodle dish with fried chicken is that it didn't seem to have any salt on it. Prices seem mostly fair. Deserts may be a bit pricy in some cases though. Food comes on fast, but customer/table ratio to servers are off, doesn't seem like there are enough servers vs tables so no one came by to refill our water or check in on us. The noise level here is high, not off the music playing off the speaker but just the sounds people conversing. Food is alright, not deliciously amazing, but no too shabby. Is the reason they're called Petit Potato because their dessert portions are so petit? $12 for the tiniest cheese tart ever left me supremely disappointed. Also, funny they call it "molten" because in reality, what was served was at most lukewarm. It was in no way heated up enough. I could've done better job with a $5 cheese tart and my own oven. This is the 2nd location of the restaurant i've been to and it's the nicest. There is parking underground for empress walk but you only get 2 hours validated. I ordered the pork cutlet omurice and I thought it was just okay, the pork wasn't that crispy even right away coming out and wasn't too flavourful. The soufflé pancakes were pretty good though. The main issue I have is with the ordering and service. QR codes are used to make orders online and it is very glitchy; sometimes would crash or say an order was put through when it wasn't. It's also hard to get the servers attention as they don't come to check on you. Some items here are fairly inexpensive but I think that reflects the quality. read more

The menu is quite extensive which might contribute to their downfall and the lack of quality in the dishes we ordered. You order yourself using a QR code. My sister got the sliced beef teppan pepper rice-- unremarkable; just tasted like standard rice and meat. The soy sauce they provided on the side tasted watered down. Additionally, the pan itself wasn't even sizzling. I opted for the mentaiko udon with scallop. The scallops tasted like they were frozen and rehydrated. Besides the scallops, it's just a bunch of noodles and I probably wouldn't choose to eat it all but didn't want to be wasteful. One benefit of coming during lunch time is that you get a free drink if you order a dish off a select lunch menu; my sister got a hot milk tea. We also ordered a brown sugar boba with grass jelly and pudding; that was actually good. Their dessert menu looked good; however, we were full from the savory foods so we didn't order more. Been waiting for a long time for this to finally arrive and it looks incredible! This location used to be the milestones in empress walk way back in the day. It is probably the fanciest interior among all of the restaurants in the yonge finch to sheppard strip. Lots of seating available and every single one of their dishes, utensils and even the water jugs is branded with Petit Potato. We ordered the Chicken Omurice w/ curry, Beef pepper rice teppan and the mango snowflake. Chicken Omurice (4/5) - It was nicely presented and the chicken katsu sat nicely ontop of a bed of mushroom rice wrapped with egg. The chicken had great flavour and the curry on the side had a nice salty taste. Beef Tappan (3.5/5) - Teppan is one of the dishes we loved the most from the original flagship store at finch/leslie. Unfortuantely the one we got today did not come out sizzling hot and the rice was relatively wet which mean it didn't get the opportunity to crisp up when you spread it around on the plate. I'm sure they will get this right eventually but it still tasted great. Loved the butter tucked inside the steamy rice. Mango Snowflake (3/5) - came with lots of real mango and popping bubbles. The shaved ice was nice but a little too much on the sweet side for me. Perhaps we will stick with the more traditional asian desserts next time. Overall the service was actually very welcoming and polite. I'm sure the food will improve over time which was probably why they provided an extra 10% off in the meantime. Can't wait to go again. I love the vibe and the interior of the restaurant located in the heart of the bustling yonge and Sheppard street galore of yummy restaurants! The wait time can be quite busy on the weekends but it does move fairly quick with the automated wait list in the front! This is an awesome hangout place with your friends since they have a very large menu for snacks, dinner, and desserts! They have a nice lunch menu that allows you to pick from a list of entrees for 12.99. The set includes salad, edamame, a tiny dessert and your choice of iced green tea or hot milk tea. The appetizer as shown in the picture was nice. I do wish that the edamame was lightly salted but I guess that's personal preference. The dessert was a mango sago which honestly didn't much of an impression simply because it was literally one bite. Like another review had mentioned, the Teppan dishes were quite oily and moist so there wasn't much of the scorched rice if that what you enjoy. But the meat was tender and flavourful. I also tried the pork ramen and it was alright. It did satisfy my hot noodle soup craving. Of course there are other much more reputable ramen in the area so I would say if you are looking for something more authentic, skip this one. I opted for the hot milk tea and to my surprise I really liked it. I normally do not like the milk tea from the other Petit Potato location but this one was very creamy and I believe the tea base had hints of Earl Grey which I reallh enjoyed. I have a lot to say about this place....and it's not all good. First let's start with the bad, we had a reservation for 8pm and no one served us until 8:45. By that time we asked to move tables to be more comfortable and immediately ordered only for 9:45 to come and still received no food! NOT EVEN OUR DRINKS! I honestly could not believe that service could be so bad but overall the food was a sight to see. You can tell they took time in the preparation of every meal. This does not excuse the time it took for service because every table in the restaurant was served before us I swear. I saw this place on TikTok and it looked too good to be true but I will say they lived up to the hype. My friend and I got the truffle pasta and the sirloin egg rice dish, we split everything and the bill came to $34 including our own $15 drink, so that's one thing we were happy about. If you want to have a cute night out I suggest going here because ppl were dressed up and casual so you can make your own vibe! Just be prepared to wait....a long time. read more
