Highly impressed with how good the bread is here . The worker there was very kind as well. The place could use more decor or music because it's very quiet and there's not much inside. Still plan on coming here again ! thank you

Delicious mousse cake! Was light and the perfect amount of sweet.

I've been here twice recently. The first time was a great experience. I really only wanted a cappuccino, but after seeing how nice the pastries looked, I figured the family and I would try some. We had creme brulee, a couple beignets, and the cappuccino. I was not disappointed. My family loved it and the coffee was great! This time around, I came back for the coffee and ended up grabbing a slice of mousse cake that was better than I could describe. On top of that, the best part was the person at the register. It was someone different both times I went, but each time, they were a pleasure. Patient and very helpful.

Almond "croissant" aka not a croissant

I may not be a French baker but I know what a croissant is and what I bought is not.... Tastes good however but not what I wanted when I went out to buy a croissant.

    Deliciousness :-) Pain au chocolat

I was craving pain au chocolat so badly this morning and kept flipping a mental coin on petite Madeline and this place. Reading the recent reviews for this one I was pretty apprehensive but decided to give it a try, and I am so glad I did. I'm not sure if anyone has made 'chocolate croissants' before or they're just going off of Starbucks' version... but they are time consuming to make and the chocolate to croissant ratio is hard hard hard to get right. To my tastebuds the ones here are divine. Perfect flaky yummy baked outside, soft, airy inside. JUST enough chocolate for me without being overwhelmingly sweet or attacking my face with chocolate overflow. I mean deliciousssss. I was a bit sad because they were out of fresh bread (the owner said they were making another batch for this afternoon but I didn't want to wait) They sell their bread at the Vista Farmers market and Oceanside Market and I will definitely be stopping by. Sometimes other people's reviews of a place can leave you doubtful and they end up being correct, sometimes their reviews leave you doubtful and you end up pleasantly surprised. Everyone's taste buds are different and we all have diverse backgrounds in the foods and flavors we enjoy. Give this place a try if you're skeptical, it might be well worth it!

Popped in for breakfast as the name sounded a bit fancy and was in the mood for fancy pastry. I had read good reviews about their cronuts (Croissant/Donut) and wanted to try it. The place was empty when I walked in. The cronuts were not ready and they said it was still being prepared. It was about 9:30am. I settled for a croissant and a tea. The croissant was okay not exceptional. I should have asked them to warm it up. There was not much selection on tea.... it was either black or green tea. They could add revenue by offering more varieties of tea like example herbal teas to go with their pastries. I asked for the green tea and it came in a humongous mug! I see what the other reviews mean about the attitude of the staff. After eating my croissant and drinking my tea, I asked when the cronuts would be ready. The way and attitude of how the female at the counter answered, it was like as if they were doing me a BIG favor to buy their precious cronut. I could have just said never mind but I really wanted to try it and it was not ready yet so I went grocery shopping at Aldi next door and came back about 30 mins later. I purchased a couple of the cronuts (they spell it Croxnut). Surprisingly, it was not warm for just having been prepared. Long story short, it was delicious and scrumptious! It was filled with delicious custard that oozed out when you took a bite. Yum! If I was in the area again and craving something sweet, I might probably stop by just to get their Croxnut!

Half loaves of Blue Cheese Sourdough and Olive Bread. Sooo good!!

Food wasn't very good. My croissant sandwich was greasy and soggy. When I walked in, there weren't many baked goods options either.

We ordered sandwiches from the walk up menu. There are many choices available. The prepared dinner selections looked really good and I look forward to trying those in the future. The sandwich cost was on the higher side. Close to $20 with a tip. The portion was pretty large and the quality was very good so that helped. I also chose ciabatta bread and didn't realize that was an extra $3 until after I saw my receipt. Some upgrades were more clearly marked but I didn't see that one. They have a very nice patio area to sit while you are eating. I thought it was very nice that they bring the food out to you.

Really? Or even more depending where you go. Frankly I don't know how anyone can afford it any longer but that's a different story. The new owners still don't even seem to know what they are doing after I would say 3yrs now, maybe even more since taking over this place. I used to love going here, now I go maybe once every 3 months if even that and I know why. The service is not the same, the owners are clueless and the food doesn't taste the same at all. The atmosphere of feeling like you are at home when most everyone but mostly the owner remembered you, would come talk to you, helped you and knew what she was taking about, is all gone. I was there yesterday for one of my favorite sandwiches, meatball sandwich. I like that the meatballs are small, not a size of a baseball or even larger, just perfect size, tasty etc. I go up to the register and instead of his clueless wife when you ask her a question and she looks at you as if you're from another planet then has to go and ask one of her employees which that in itself looks totally bad, this time was her husband who looks to me for now the 4th time through the year I visited, that should just stick to staying in the gym since he looks like someone that takes care of himself that way, quite fit, and although nothing at all with that, perhaps leave the deli part of it to someone else and go back to working out instead, it seems his forte. When I told him the sandwich I wanted, he clearly said to me "what would you like with the sandwich" a question I was never asked before because it simply came with a small bag of chips or pasta salad, so I asked what did the sandwich come with, "it comes" the word that he used "it comes with", not "extra charge" and he mentioned French fries, bag of chips while he pointed where the chips were, pasta salad. I said, "I'll try the French fries". Not ONE TIME he said to me that none of the items he mentioned to me were extra charge, I even told him, "oh they come with all that you just told me"? He said yes. When I paid the total came to $24 dollars, the sandwich itself was $13.65 and a coke that I ordered was $3, how did it get to $24? Well, the French fries were extra cost. Had I chosen a bag of chips, the once he pointed at were also extra charge just like if I ordered pasta salad, I found out about the extra charge from the lady that brought me the sandwich and I asked why my bill was $24 dollars, SHE, not the owner told me about the extra charges. After I said to her, "why didn't or doesn't the owner tell you so instead of saying that these extras come with the sandwich" she looked at me and said "I don't know". She didn't even know however any of the prices of the sandwich they sell. These are the new employees now. I know you are going to think why I didn't ask right away why my bill was $24 dollars. I didn't even think about it immediately, I was hungry at this point, the place was quite busy and I wanted to find a place to sit, no excuse, but didn't think about it right away. Not until I set down and then started thinking about why my bill was higher. That was my fault. I should have immediately asked and actually I should have gone to the owner afterwards and mentioned to him that he should tell the customers correctly, meaning do NOT SAY "IT COMES WITH" that means IS NOT EXTRA CHARGE. He needs to say that wherever we want with it, there is an extra, then up to the customer if he/she wants it or not. The sandwich did not taste like the way it used to taste, meatballs still small but they were very salty, and the fries although I will say cooked pretty nice, crispy and all, a very small portion and also very salty. Overall and sadly for me because I truly liked this place a lot with the previous owner, it's not a place I would go back to. The prices are as high and now higher than any other place nowadays, nothing spectacular, their bakery department is now very limited, used to be huge and very nice selections, they used to have a pastry chef in the back that made the best deserts, and I don't know if they also changed cook, but nothing tastes the same. The place is always very busy, so I am sure I won't be missed, I won't waste my money here again. The new owners should by now know what they sell, know how to interact with customers better, know the job they took over. The owners before were absolutely wonderful and great to talk to, they would interact with you ask you if everything was ok, great service from the staff. I miss them and the new owners really need to step up, it's time. The place also very dirty on floors, tables, trash cans totally disgusting and filthy.

We ordered the Smoked Salmon Tartine, and it was SO good -- farmer's cheese, capers, pickled onion and dill on their sourdough. Honestly, the food was top tier. Everything coming out of the kitchen looked amazing, and after trying the bread we actually ended up buying some to take home! For drinks, we had a matcha latte with oat milk and the canned nitro cold brew. Just a heads-up for my fellow coffee people: the cold brew isn't made in-house, but that didn't stop it from being really good! We liked the coffee so much that we actually went over to the local coffee shop that supplies their beans afterward and bought some beans to take home. And definitely don't skip the bakery. The chocolate chip cookie was delicious, and the chocolate croissant had that super crispy, crackly exterior. I personally would have loved a little more filling to make it slightly more moist, but that's completely subjective -- if you love a crispier croissant, you'll probably LOVE it. The atmosphere might have been my favorite part. It's beautiful, calm, inviting and just has that perfect Carlsbad coastal café vibe. Between the food, fresh bread, pastries and atmosphere, this is absolutely somewhere I'd come back to whenever we're in the area. Definitely worth a stop -- and come hungry because everything coming out of that kitchen looks delicious!

To my surprise Water Shack's burgers were delicious and satisfying that I find myself coming back here ever so often. Their burgers aren't the heavy, greasy/high fat patties you would get from other places. However, their 1/4 lb patties are their smallest patties and heft makes for that ideal bun to burger ratio. Did I need to order double patties on most of my burger orders? Probably not. Their patties are on the leaner side but they aren't dry; and the fixings from any burger you choose will satisfy that meaty burger fix you're looking for. The Chicken Patty Melt is also a very tasty item. Very cheesy, buttery and crispy toasted bread with chicken breast. Their fries and onion rings also come air-fried so this place focuses more on the healthier comfort food options that wont leave you feeling heavy and drowsy. This place is also doubled as a purified water dispensary and also serves baked goods and ice cream. Love this type of no-frills, unassuming place with very friendly staff and serves up some delicious food!
