My dog's haircut turned out great BUT she got injured here! I don't know what happened but I spent over 300 dollars in medical bills for her shortly after her grooming experience!! I don't know if the groomer handled her too roughly or what but she had a neck injury. It was horrible. The staff was friendly but I will never bring her again because I have such a negative association. There was no way for me to prove she was injured here but shortly after I picked her up I noticed my dog wasn't the same. :( It took 2 weeks for her to fully recover. read more

I had been bringing in my 2 dogs to this location occasionally over the past 2 years, but I won't be coming back. I made an appointment over the weekend for 5:30 (knowing that I wouldn't be off work in time for the earlier time of 4:30 that was also available) and showed up at 5:20. When I told the groomer that I was there with Finn, she informed me that I was an hour late and she had other appointments. I asked her if there was any way she could squeeze him in since my appointment was really supposed to be at 5:30 but she only recommended coming back another day. Not once did she apologize for the error in booking. I went out of my way to make it to the appointment on time, but they weren't accommodating even though it was their mistake. read more

This review is for banfield and prescription food cards. I've never been here for my cats. I've heard mixed reviews but I went in tonight to pick up prescription food. I got a new prescription and needed a new card. The hours on the door say till 7. I got there at 6:55 and stood in front of the desk for 10 minutes. As I waited I saw someone walk back and forth behind the door several times. She even made eye contact with me, twice. It was obvious I needed help. But no one ever came out. They just turned out the light. Even if they had told me I was too late, I would have understood. I know it was close to closing but it would have taken two minutes for a new card. If this is how they treat humans, I wonder if they treat animals any better. Now my cats will be without the proper food for a night. I would never bring my cats here. It's a shame that petsmart lost out on my business due to this. I wish there was a better system in place that didn't involve banfield. I feel like the petsmart employees are always courteous. read more

We went into Petsmart today to use a gift card to purchase some fish for the aquarium. A little bit of background. I personally have 5 aquariums (3 reefs, 1 planted angelfish breeder, and another heavily planted) I also maintain business and personal home aquariums 7 days a week. In addition to this I also work for a saltwater retail front... We decided to use the gift card on some algae eaters for my friend's aquarium. We asked for 8 Oto's. Sam, the Petsmart Associate, did not want to sell my friend the catfish that get no more than 2 inches big, on the best of occasions. This is also a schooling catfish... She suggested that adding this many fish at once would be too much for the aquarium. I asked her if she was sure the bio-load from 8 algae eaters would be so much to trigger a mini-cycle and collapse the existing, well-established nitrogen cycle... She informed me that yes it was and was not going to sell the fish to us. I informed her that the waste from the otos would not produce enough ammonia to re-cycle his aquarium... So I asked her how she thought it was going to "mess up the balance of the aquarium" (her phrasing). She said because the Otos eat algae this would cause ammonia and nitrate. Does she think she can just throw out words and I'll think she's right? I happen to be well versed in aquarium chemistry.... The nitrogen cycle is the fundamental process of filtration, and Sam has no idea what atrophic nitrifying bacteria is, let alone how it functions as a filter... These catfish really have little to no bio-load.... The impact on the tank would be next to none... Unless she was assuming the aquarium filtration was completely dependent on algaes and live plants removing ammonia during photosynthesis before the aerobic nitrifying bacteria colony within the filter could covert it to nitrite to nitrate, she had no idea what she was saying..... At first I thought she was going to suggest that adding 8 of these fish would be too many fish for the aquarium. I assumed she didn't realize these fish remain exclusively on the glass and surface areas containing algae. In fact these fish pretty much each algae 24/7.. In my friends planted aquarium, algae grows everyday, which is the main requirement for these fish. She attempted 5 times to not sell us the fish before she stopped talking and got us the fish... And my friend is not putting this fish in a 5g bowl, with an Oscar... We bot know what we are doing, and have been a part of this hobby for many years. I personally have been in the industry longer than Sam and as shocked at how she persisted to attempt to say the fish would not be a smart add. I'm sure she'd much rather sell one Pleco and a Siamese Algae Eater. Great a fish that gets 2feet and the other that eats fish slime coat and is extremely aggressive. When I told Sam the fish would be better off in his tank where there is actual algae, she didn't have a response. Typically fish attendants do not catch sucker fish with a net. She used a net of course and 3 of the catfish got stuck in the net along the way. Does this girl even know her job? When someone who is more qualified and versed than you comes in to buy fish, don't try and make-up a reason not to catch 8 fish because you don't want to chase them around the tank. I think most people are fairly familiar with the store and its products, so I'll skip that part. However, I brought my cat to the grooming salon and I was very pleased. They don't use heat to dry the dogs and cats, which I like, actually. They're placed in a large kennel that blows room temperature air. The last time I brought my cat to a groomer, they did use heat, and I could tell - she was totally exhausted when I brought her home, very limp, and she went straight to her water bowl. But Petsmart did a good job on her bath, ears, and nails. It can get pricey, so look out for coupons in the mailers. read more

Terrible experience at the pet grooming salon and not because of my pup's groomer but because of another groomer, around her 50s or 60s, who rushed me over to get to the store before my puppy was even done with her grooming session and practically kicked my butt out the door. This is my puppy's second time getting groomed and she was very anxious, so I understand why she would be a bit annoyed, but she was so dang rude! I had my two dogs groomed there last Sunday afternoon. I was worried because it was my first time there and one of my dogs has separation anxiety and has only one eye that works, causing reduced peripheral sight and no depth perception. Duzzy or Dezzy was the technician who worked on both dogs. She took extra time to calm Max down and give him extra TLC when he needed it. The experience was great and I will continue to go there in the future. I'm just happy I found a place I could trust because I had a bad experience at a Petco where I used to live in San Diego. read more

I can see most of the bad reviews on here are mainly about their grooming department and I wish I had checked these reviews before taking my dog here. I have a 4 year old golden retriever. Sweetest dog in the world, gentle and kind to my 3 kids and everyone that meets her. She's been to dog parks, is used to getting bathed and totally chill. She goes to the vet and they take her back alone while they check her out, NEVER an issue. Today I took her in to get groomed and not even 5 minutes after I left, I get a phone call saying my dog bit the groomer and I needed to pick her up. I was pretty shocked and a little shaken up because that was so unlike my dog. They said they were trying to put her in a kennel when she bit her hand. First of all, I wanna know if my dog was there for a bath, why would they need to put her in a kennel?! Second, as I was leaving, a man stopped me in the parking lot and told me that he saw how rude they were being to my dog and my dog was freaking out. Again, my dog has NEVER had any problems with anyone and has NEVER bitten anyone, EVER. She was clearly terrified and felt the need to defend herself. I feel bad that the employees hand was bit and she assured me she was alright, but I'm so upset about this and will not be going back. Monica is the lead groomer there and I've seen other complaints abut her so maybe it's time PetSmart looked into a more professional staff and people that actually know what they're doing with dogs. It's very telling that the manager I spoke to told me to go to Cody at the Aliso PetSmart because he's the best groomer they have. He can't even recommend his own staff! I went to Petsmart with my Pomeranian, I left him off and he was not ready when they said, and I wanted him to have a hair cut, but they only had cut the hair around his rear end and he looked like he had hardly been groomed. Then they charged me the entire amount. After I showed my dog to the store manager they refunded my money. I did not feel comfortable with the person who was running the grooming that day. She seemed flighty and kept mixing up my dog with another and had is information written down wrong. SO this could be a very isolated incident with Petsmart and this person, but I have not felt comfortable to go back. read more

Couldn't find what I needed, finally broke down and SEARCHED out an employee, their help consisted of "if we have them they'd be over there." Today we went to Petsmart to get some catnip to try out on our cats. It has been years since I used it, so was unclear where to find it. One employee found us wondering around and came to our rescue. As we were getting ready to check out another employee asked if we found everything and I mentioned that I wish I could grow the catnip faster as I wanted to use it that day. She pointed out the already fresh catnip plant right in front of me! Not only did she not make me feel silly she opened up a register to check us out. The previous helpful employee also came up and wished us luck with our cats. Everyone seemed to be as excited as I was for this silly little purchase for us. I recently witnessed something that happened in the store when I was making a purchase which the lady came on here and complained "Rand Paul Lover." So I would like to share my experience. This woman had her kids acting crazy in the store leaving them unsupervised and they even asked me to buy them a fish!!? I was in the checkout line and she was being checked out and had her children with her. Her kids were being disruptive and extremely loud. The employee Gigi asked politely if they could quiet down and I heard her say she couldn't hear what she was saying and she could only hear in one ear. The lady screamed at the employee on the top of her lungs like a mad woman!!!!! I was in utter shock, a grown woman screaming at a young girl because she said she couldn't hear! I felt horrible waiting in line witnessing this. The employee apologized over and over again and the lady kept screaming at her until she started crying. The women's children were laughing at the employee it was horrible to see. The manager came over of course sided with the crazy costumer......the employee did nothing wrong. People should control their children in public!!!!! I've been to this PetSmart multiple times and the employees are always wonderful. Gigi has helped me before get items for my dog and I had a great experience. Management should have a rule about people who can't handle their children in a store and not take it out on their sweet employees!!!!!!!! read more

So I went to get goldfish information but at the end some big chunky girl refused on selling me a goldfish because apparently it needs a bigger tank when I already had two back then and they died cause my mom over fed them.. Was going to take my puppy in for grooming, they told me it was $20 for a cut/ bath/ nail trim. Our appointment was at 5. Went to drop her off, they said that a puppy trim is only the face & paws. Then proceed to tell me it would take 3-4 hours! I told them my dog gets anxiety, I don't want her in that long... They said that is all they can do.... Um no thanks! After a recent purchase from a small fish shop wiped out the guppy population in my 40-gal tropical freshwater tank and took out my only female platy as well (turns out his fish were infected with ich - every one of my little guys got sick and luckily only six were lost), I decided to replace them with fish from this Pet Smart location as the fish I had originally purchased from the Foothill Ranch location had proven to be happy, healthy and hardy. I purchased a total of five guppies, three male and two female, two female platys, and a snail. My first complaint is that the woman who caught my fish (her name is Jess and she is apparently a manager, based on her uniform) was so incompetent that it took her about three minutes to catch one of the platys that I had asked for. I can understand it maybe taking a little longer to catch a specific fish out of a tank of similar-looking fish, but all I asked for was a female sunburst wag out of a tank of all sunburst wags, mostly female. She had an extremely difficult time of it and thoroughly stressed out all of the fish in that tank. It also took her an unusual amount of time to catch all the other fish and she even seemed to have a hard time with the snail! The next day the sunburst wag was dead. I brought her back and explained the situation (leaving the employee's name out of it) and was told I could pick out a replacement fish. Once I got back to the fish section and picked out a platy the employee who came to assist me was...Jess. I was not about to let her potentially endanger another fish of mine and politely asked that someone else catch my fish. A younger girl came out then (her name was Jen) and asked me what I wanted, and this time I had picked a certain fish because all of the others in that tank were looking unhealthy (this is the tank that Jess wreaked havoc on the day before and it really took a toll on those poor platys). I pointed her out and the girl didn't seem to care much, so I verified that I wanted the largest female and she stuck the net in, fished around, and came out with a small male. She then asked, "This is the one, right?" And I said immediately, "No, I wanted a female. The big one." It took her two more tries to get it right, and she made it pretty clear that she thought I was wasting her time. At this point I was feeling pretty irritated with the staff and I just wanted to get my fish and leave, so I brought the replacement up to the counter with my receipt and made the exchange, problem free except that the cashier talked to me like I was an idiot. She also didn't give back my receipt, saying that if there was a problem with any of my other fish they would take care of it. I went back in the other day just to look around (my 3-year-old and I go to all our local pet stores for fun) and was dismayed to see that the tank that my platys came out of and one other were full of ich-encrusted fish. One tank had about a dozen fish in it out of which I counted seven dead and two so totally covered in ich that they couldn't unclamp their fins to swim and were floating helplessly through the water, gills working furiously. It was horribly sad! I notified an employee, a young man this time, who looked genuinely surprised and had no idea what to do. Like, really. I suggested he remove the dead and he acted like he hadn't even thought of that! I also asked if there was any way of euthanizing the fish that were obviously not going to make it so that they didn't have to suffer and he went to find a manager (Jess) who told him no, that they would be fine. After looking around a bit more I saw at least one dead fish in every two out of three tanks. Not all of the tanks had ich in them that I could see, but about half did. Half! This was two days ago, and today when I went in (one of the guppies I had purchased there died this afternoon after an unfortunate run-in with the filter) the two platy tanks were empty but for one fish, again so encrusted in ich that she could only move one fin and was struggling to stay balanced. There were ich-afflicted fish in EVERY SINGLE TANK...even the cichlids...even the goldfish. There were more dead fish just kind of hanging out in just under half of the tanks. The employee in this section tonight was Jen, who seemed either oblivious of or apathetic to the situation. When I took my dead guppy to the register (to the same cashier I had dealt with for the previous exchange) she told me sorry, no, they couldn't switch him out without the receipt...not that I would have accepted any of the other fish in their current condition anyway. I am outraged to see such horrendous treatment of these animals. You would think that they would exhibit better disease management if only for the purpose of maintaining a sell-able product. These employees are sloppy, rude, lazy and bad at their jobs. I will never EVER shop here again, and I sincerely hope this branch either goes under or completely replaces the staff. read more

This is the best Petsmart I have been to! Groomers are awesome too! All the girls that were there working were very sweet and easy to talk to. I just took my dog there for his first grooming appointment and he left looking FANTASTIC. I highly recommend getting Breann. My dog wasn't very cooperative, he got a little snappy with her at one point, but that didn't stop her from doing an amazing job!! She was great with him and very sweet and easy to talk to as well! I brought my dog Zoey in for grooming on December 26, 2010 to Pet smart #1291, 23602 El Toro Rd, Lake Forest ca 92630.. Zoey was limping a little that night, but I assumed that they probably bruised he front paw when grooming. On the evening of the 28th, my brother and sister in law were over visiting. He is a Trauma surgeon and she is a RN. I noticed that she was still limping and not acting normal. I asked them to take a look at her and when they stretched out her arm, it had a dime sized laceration hole cut under her armpit. She had been cut. That is the reason why she was limping. I immediately called pet smart to speak to the grooming manager. It was 6:55 in the evening. I told her the situation and told her that I would be bringing Zoey to my vet. She asked me if I could please take her to the Banfield vet, who is associated with, and located inside Pet smart in the morning. I said ok and brought her in at 10:00 am on 12/29/10. The doctor looked at her and gave me his estimate. The doctor said it must be an abscess and denied responsibility. He barely looked at it, and then tried to sell me a teeth cleaning program. I then left and went directly to my vet, El Toro Animal Hospital. Dr. Fred did an extensive test and concluded that it was definitely a new laceration. Not a scab or abscess. I immediately had her go into surgery to fix the repair. I understand that accidents happen. This should have been taken care of right when it happened, and I should have been notified immediately. But to just ignore it and send me home with my dog hurt and pretend that it didn't happen and hope that it would just go away, is just negligent and abuse. I would never taake my dog here again!!!!! read more

We went in to buy a fish tank they had on sale and the only one left was on the floor with a small chip in the corner of the glass more than likely from shipping. We found this very nice young lady by the name of Evelin who refused to sell us a chipped tank. Rather she got on the phone and tracked one down at another location as most stores were sold out she never gave up till she found us one. Once that mission was completed she never left our side till we had everything needed to run a proper tank. Very informative and helpful as if she was building her own. She suggested not to buy what was not needed and advised what was. She helped us find and create the exact tank we wanted. If she is not a manager she truly needs to be. She knows exactly how to treat a customer and make them feel important. Greatest customer service ever from a non owner of a retail store. Thanks for making this experience so much fun. read more

It pains me to write a bad review for Petsmart, since I have had really great experiences at all of the others I have been to in NY, VA, and CA. I have not had one good experience here. I have been bringing my dogs every other month since 8/12 and every time the groomers have an attitude, and very poor customer service. I work in retail, so I get there are bad days, and mistakes. Today was the last time I will try to work with this groomer. To top it off they never do a very good job. The first time I was hesitant, due to the attitude of the groomer, but she did an amazing job on my dogs nails. That was the only time I haven't felt ripped off. The employees in the store are nice, but in the grooming salon they always have an attitude. Once an employee, who had been so rude I was a bit worried about leaving my dog with her, went on to complain about how much she hates doing dogs nails and how she was done with it right in front of me. I've been taking my dogs to petsmart for years, but I will now be paying more and driving much farther to take my dogs to someone professional. read more

I AM SO MAD!!!! Do to the manager at this location, i will never return to this store agian! I have a pit bull, i am not going to go into to much depth on how well behaved she is or the fact that she plays in the doggie daycare at my work daily, but this *** whole had the nerve to ask me to leave because a customer was afraid to walk past us with his lab. After i was done shopping i went outside and was standing there, my dog laying down, a good twenty feet away from the door. And the manager comes out and asks me to leave because there was a customer in the stores that didnt like pit bulls and that would not come out unless i moved. The customer service in the grooming department at this location is HORRIBLE. I scheduled an appointment with CHRISTINA two weeks prior to my appointment. I received a phone call from them a week later saying I needed to reschedule the appointment because they made a mistake and double booked her. So I did. Two days before the scheduled appointment I received a reminder for the appointment, however it was the wrong time and groomer. I called them back to confirm. Instead of apologizing for the second mistake, they blamed me for not specifying which groomer I wanted, I told them I did that two weeks ago. Then the actual groomer I requested for got on the phone and instead of apologizing she became frustrated and handed the phone over to her manager ASHLEY, I asked her "wasn't I just speaking to CHRISTINA? " She replied saying that CHRISTINA was overwhelmed and handed the phone over to her. ASHLEY then tried fixing the problem, but at this point I was already agitated. She then started to giggle, mind you, this is the MANAGER, so I just canceled the appointment all together. I will never do business with this establishment ever again. They're rude and thay aren't accountable for their mistakes. Customer service is on a decline and this grooming department at this location is a great example of that. read more

Always so disappointed with this store and unfortunately it's the closest pet store to my house. All of the cashiers will take at least 10 min to check you out, so if you're in a rush, definitely don't come here. I also made an appt to get my dog groomed at 9 am and as I arrive, the groomer is booked for my dog and another dog at 9. She said the other dog has an "express wash" and mine can wait. She said I can wait 45 min to an hour and then get him groomed. I MADE MY APPOINTMENT AT NINE! Not 9:10, not 9:15, not 9:45-so what's the point of making an appointment with you guys. I had to rush my morning to make it to the appointment, so please think about your customers, not yourselves!Grooming is stressful for all dogs, they should not have to wait to get their grooming done if they did not ask for an "express wash." I was not offered or told about this option over the phone, or anytime I've ever gotten my boy groomed here, for that matter. That's officially the last time I walk through those doors! read more
