2014 YELP 365 CHALLENGE - 148/365 Pretty good PetSmart. My boyfriend and I go here every once in awhile to check out the kitties up for adoption :) They're so cute at this PetSmart usually seems to have a bunch of cats! We've been greeted upon entry from the sales associates, which is pretty nice. My boyfriend actually went to school with one of them...but neither of them acknowledged the fact that they knew each other so that was pretty awkward. The WORST GROOMERS!!!! DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE IF YOU LOVE THEM!!! THEY ARE SO TERRIBLE. I PICKED UP MY DOG WHO HAD GONE IN FOR A STANDARD BATH AND CAME OUT WITH RED BULGING EYES, STILL HALF WET AND SO SHAKEN. I don't know what they do to these animals but they are not trained properly at all. They do not even like animals. Who hires these people!?! What experience do they look for? Qualities!?! Petsmart ... where the pets are smart & Petco...where the pets are slow Ha ha! So my dog is a smart dog. This particular location is convenient to my home, always clean, appears to be well-staffed and they carry a huge amount of just about anything you are looking for. Petsmart has cat adoptions, you can buy various animals (not dogs/cats), they have a grooming salon and an in-house vet at this location. They also have training sessions for your dog, which should be started at puppy time, but good behavior and a great canine companion are always in style. Chief loves his groomer Tatiana. She does a great job and after, he is happy to see us, wants to go home, but none of the frantic and sad "get me out of here, I've been tortured!" Don't forget to tip your groomer. Prices for grooming specifically are very reasonable. My only gripe is that you have to pay extra for special or good smelling shampoo. We do! I don't like the medicinal smell of the regular shampoo, so we pay the extra for the good for his coat Oatmeal...he is worth it, right?! Petsmart also has numerous pure bred dog adoption events (right out front) and mixed breed rescue organizations. Worthy causes folks, save a pet, donate money, donate time. Some of the adopters even bring baked goodies for you to buy, with money going to the cause. People just love getting something for something don't they. Obviously your dog (leashed) is welcome in Petsmart and they have endcaps on some aisles with a clean-up station in case your pup has an accident. read more

I have had my dog serviced with Petsmart since her very first professional grooming. I am always super happy with the job they do! I tried a mobile service (the cost was way more) by my house and was very disappointed. My dog is very anxious and difficult to be groomed but Monica is able to handle her and does everything I ask! I have never had a complaint! Thank you Monica, your the best! I am always completely satisfied with the finishing touches (bow, bandana, hair clips, ect..) for some reason that makes a difference to me! It's not an easy task and the $$ is well worth it compared to the mobile groomer I tried! If I could give more than 5 stars I would. read more

GROOMING SALON: I have been taking my little Maltipoo here for grooming and bath since he was a little baby and in the beginning had good experience. The girls here are nice and usually accommodating. My Maltipoo usually comes out looking nice and clean with a cute teddy-bear cut. HOWEVER, throughout the years i've taken my puppy here the service has gone down and the grooming and bath has taken a turn for the worst. Sometimes when I pick up my baby I get so angry due to a wrong hair cut or cutting him too short. I feel he is not as cleaned, hair cut uneven and just a lazy job overall. I had an incident once where they cut his behind too short and all I see is literally skin.....I HATED IT. Another time they gave him the wrong hair cut because they had another dog with the same name but didnt bother to verify with while I was there at the salon. I was beyond angry! I called and finally spoke with a manager and she apologized and offered a free grooming and bath on my next visit. The last time I took I took my puppy here he did not come out so clean...he still had yellow spots around his eyes and his mouth...he came in that way! his ears were not trimmed correctly and his nails felt like they havent been cut....although we always pay for the top dog package. I learned that the top dog package is a total waste of money! You have no idea if they actually do half of the things they charge you for. Another thing, I HATE the idea that they leave the doggies in a cage that is probably not clean. The past 5 visits...my puppy has been so scared that he refuses to go in and screams like a baby when I leave him. When I come to pick him up he is so excited that he pees all over. I am no longer a happy customer and I will not bring my puppy back here. Overall, I give the grooming salon a 2 stars. THE STORE: The store is usually very clean and the staff are nice...but sometimes not enough of them so its hard to ask questions when you have to track one down. I get what I need here and I like that they have plenty of options. The clothing here is awesome, so cute and decent in price. I would give the store a 4 stars. Compared to Petco...Petsmart is way better. Average is a 3 stars for Salon and Store itself.....I will continue to shop here for my puppy but I won't come back for the grooming salon. read more

So, I just came across another review for the PetSmart grooming salon from someone else that has a Cocker Spaniel. Her experience was similar to mine. I hope that senior management from corporate decides to be proactive about this. The operative word is active. The last 2 visits, they've made me sign a release which I don't recall signing from any other groomer, which is interesting. If this groomer nicks or cuts and as a result causes medical bills, then they need to lose their license and reimburse for any medical bills from the pet owner. Ridiculous. Chain stores like Petsmart shouldn't be getting this business anyway when there are plenty of other dog groomers in the neighborhood. Petsmart is making billions off of consumers! Support your local pet stores that don't sell puppies and local grooming salons. read more

I took my golden retriever for a haircut and bath. He was there got no longer then 5 min and I get a call telling me he's next door at the doctors office because they pulled off his toe nail on "accident". So he got no bath, no haircut, instead he got injured and had to be sedated for them to clean out the broken nail. The manager called me but what was the point then. My dog was injured. I have been to so many pet store, other petsmarts and other companies, and i have to say at times its just depressing. The animals look sick and sad. The workers look like they don't even know what an animal is?? The stores smell and the place is a mess. There have been times i feel so bad for the animals i think i should pull an Eliot from E.T. and release them all. But this Petsmart in Lake Forest in nothing like that. It is beyond clean they have a large variety of animals that all look healthy and happy. The place is well stocked and the workers are good. Even the fish area, where in other stores it can be where fish come to die, the fish here look clean and vibrant! Not a floater in the bunch. So good job Lake Forest Petsmart! So I was contacted by the by the operations manager and after getting hung up on by an associate twice I was able to get a hold of her. She was making excuse after excuse about how new employees are and how the phone system is glitchy and how the sales associate who was rude didn't mean to me. After she requested I scan and send my receipt to her for proof... I quite honestly feel this needs to be elevated beyond the store. How often must you prove your bad experience at such a crappy store. Just look at the other bad reviews and you will see a common thread just never thought a customer would be treated this way and as a reconciliation be required to do more work. Please it's not worth it just never again will I spend and support such an organization. Then look at their practices. Look up their policy on defective pets such as hamsters or bunnies. If you get a sick one and bring it back they replace it and destroy the sick one. Goes to show they don't give a crap about the animals let alone the customers. They know how to make an appointment, but not how to KEEP an appointment. I made an appointment online for 7:30. I only had 2 choices 7:30 or 8:00. When I arrived 20 minutes early the lazy groomer wouldn't take the appointment. She LIED straight to my face! She said that my appointment was set for 6:30 and I was late so she wouldn't groom him. I have confirmed on the website that my appointment was for 7:30. The only reason for this must be that that lazy groomer Alyssa E wanted to home home early. There wasn't a single dog there being groomed. NOTHING was going on in the grooming room, yet she refused to keep my appointment. Well.....you just lost a customer. I can shop online for dog food, and fins a groomer that hires people who actually want to do the job they're being paid for. Maybe if you're a dog groomer and you don't want to groom dogs then you should find another profession. read more

Since I was a little girl, I've always wanted a bearded dragon and my boyfriend was getting me one for Christmas! I was so excited! Because this place is close to my work, I would pop in every now and then to get an idea of what tank and what lights to get etc. Although the staff was very friendly; constantly asking if I needed any help, I felt as though they were not too knowledgable on bearded dragons. For example: I would say that I was looking at cages and kits for a bearded dragon and ask for they're opinion... And with a blank look on their faces.. "Yeah, we have good stuff here and we have good deals" and would walk away. I will say though, this one lady there was very helpful, because she had a 3 foot beardie at home, she gave us her opinions and input. I appreciate her. I kind of wish that Petsmart would train their staff in being a little more knowledgable on the animals they are selling. My boyfriend and I did our research and on December 16th, it was time! I had fallen in love with this little beardie. I named him Toothless. In the beginning of January we realized that he was not eating as much as he used to.. On January 7th we found ourselves driving to the pet hospital at midnight, scared he wouldn't make it through the night. The doctor said that she felt that it could probably be something the little guy had internally but that maybe we could turn things around. She said we were great parents and have a good cage set up and sent us away with antibiotics($120). I set up a follow up check up for this Monday. Today he wouldn't eat at all. His tummy was even smaller and his eyes were sunken in and he was barely moving. My boyfriend called petsmart to see what they could do or what they suggest... Although the lady sounded very concerned, she apologized and said that their policies are strict and there's nothing they could do. She also mentioned that she has been getting calls lately in regards to these beardies sold around that time. She mentioned that they all have seemed to be sick or to not have made it and that there may have been an issue with that batch. Wait, so you knew other people with this issue and you still won't help? Ok.. We called other reptile places to see what we could do. Our baby is really not doing good... Believe it or not, we called PETCO up the street from our house and the manager said, "bring him in right away, I will see what I can do to help." I was shocked. We drove there right away and he took him to the back to help him out and said that he will take care of him until he got better and then adopt him out... He mentioned that it looked as though he had something internally wrong with him like a parasite or some kind of illness... Just like the doctor mentioned. He said that he would also give us a deal on another bearded dragon and new lights and everything because he wanted to apologize for the way petsmart dealt with the situation. We have taken our Yorkie, Cooper, for grooming for the past 3 years. This past week my husband dropped him off. He went over the details of how Cooper was to be cut. There are also computer notes detailing the type of cut we prefer. When my husband returned he hardly recognized our beautiful dog. His body and legs were completely shaved down. His ears had a jagged trim. His sweet face had straight across shaved line that gave him a strange expression. The groomer kept telling my husband how sorry she was and admitted she did not look at the computer notes or had spoken with the person who checked the dog in. He was offered a 30% discount. The good news is his coat will grow out. The bad news is a Pet Smart has lost a loyal customer. read more

Today was my second time coming to this particular PetSmart for my baby's grooming. I am a full time student and a full time worker and my dog's high maintenance fluff can be too time consuming for me to keep up with AND to top it off, my dog is a fear biter. I was nervous about trying out a grooming salon especially one belonging to a generic chain but a friend raved about this particular place. So, I brought my lil man in and told Katie (my go to groomer forever!) and told her about my concerns and she took everything into consideration and made me feel pretty confident when I dropped him off in the morning. Pick up time. My dog had the works done and wow! He's never been whiter and he even made my car smell good! I highly recommend Katie's skills for anyone who really loves their baby. Do NOT take your pet here for grooming. I have been taking my 2 Poms here for years but they almost killed one today. They are well aware my one dog has severe anxiety issues and cannot be placed in a kennel. I told them again today when I dropped him off that he cannot be placed in a kennel. I pay extra so he gets an express grooming. They also were told again about him being on anti anxiety meds. I get a phone call 30 minutes after I dropped him off saying he is at banfield pet hospital because he can't breath and is overheated from anxiety. When I arrive I find out that they had immediately placed him in a kennel and caused his severe reaction. It took over an hour to bring him down and cool him off. We signed up our dog to have beginner training classes here. We had met trainer Trisha while shopping and decided she was awesome so we signed up our dog. We showed up to the first day of class and it had been cancelled because Trisha broke her finger. They told us to come back next week and there would be a new trainer. We were skeptical because the reason we signed up was because Trisha seemed so great. We came to the new class with trainer Shanna who is from the Yorba Linda store. She was great! It was just us and one other dog family in the class. They dropped out after a couple weeks so then it was private lessons! Our dog learned how to sit, stay, leave it, drop it, lay down, walk at our pace, etc. She also gave us advice on anything we asked about. It is really up to the dog parents to practice at home. I know our dog will forget everyting if we don't continue to practice. But I'm glad we did the training. And it's so fun to see your cute little dog do so well in "school". My husband and I purchased Blue Buffalo cat food, our cat had been eating it for about 6 months now. We noticed today that her urine had blood in it. So I went into this Petsmart for the second time today. Usually I don't like shopping at big, massive pet stores because I think they are overpriced (I normally buy my pet food/supplies at Target or Wal Mart)...but my fish decided to die last night (so sad) and I wanted to look at their fish selection because I was debating if I wanted to get some more fish. The store is clean and well kept. Staff is really friendly. A nice employee answered several of my questions with a smile on his face even though I didn't buy any fish. If I do decide to buy some more fish, I will for sure come back to this location. Also...they have the most adorible kittens and cats there to adopt! They are on the pricy side (95 bucks for one)...but if you're looking into adopting a cat or kitten, go there! So cute! :) Overall...very satisfied! read more

The Petsmart member who helped us was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. She talks like she has a PhD in marine biology and truly cares about your pet and the animals in general. I visited your store today and when the cashier asked if I wanted to have my receipt emailed to me, she asked if they had my correct email. They didn't. It was something called cleanerimagejanitorial.com. They always had my email correct before so it must have been changed recently. I kept getting phone calls and emails from a collection agency for $2600 for Cleaner Image Janitorial for an ad they took out on yp.com. This seems to point to some fraud going on either at the store or corporate level. Pet Smart should look into this! read more

I looked in the leopard gecko cage and the floor was covered in poop, the chameleon had old shed hanging from its face and tail. I then looked at the beta fish and i was completely disappointed at the condition they were in. Their little plastic cups were filled to the top in fish waste and the beta fish on the bottom shelf were covered in ick a harmful disease that kills the fish if not treated for. read more

This review is for the Grooming Salon: I have a Cocker Spanlel who is very body sensitive. I have taken her to the same groomer at the Petsmart in Palm Springs since she started getting professionally groomed. She had trouble adjusting the first time but since, she had no problems with Lola at all....she even cut the skin on her neck the last time by accident and Lola didn't even flinch. So since my normal groomer was not available during the days I was going to be in Palm Springs, I had to make an appointment at the Lake Forest store because Lola was a mess. I came in the day before and explained to the guy in the salon that I wanted to bring her in early and have someone work on her that would be patient because she is so finicky about being brushed and shaved. He assured me it wouldn't be a problem and gave me an 8am appointment. I brought her in, dropped her off, got the full package as I always do, bath, breed clip, teeth, ears and nails. The girl that was going to work on her looked like she just rolled out of bed with the same eyeliner from the night before smudged all over her face. Got a call 3 hours later that she was done so I went to pick her up. The girl that worked on her came out to tell me that she couldn't finish clipping her legs because Lola was biting her and that I needed to take her to a behaviorist for her aggression. Really? I understand that it's possible that Lola was being difficult because it was a new person she wasn't used to...but I find it hard to believe that she was that bad. She gets groomed every two months and always gets a good report card. Clearly the people here do not have much experience with sensitive dogs. So I paid the bill and got home to realize, they didn't clip her nails, and probably didn't brush her teeth or clean her ears either. So what did I pay $70 for? for you to give her a bath and shave her head and back? I also realized a few hours later that they didn't put her collar back on...her collar that has her license and name tag on it? Hours later when I went back to the store to get it, still no one had called me to let me know it was there. When I showed up...where was it? Right in front of the computer, right next to the phone. IT HAS MY PHONE NUMBER ON IT! And they couldn't call me to let me know it was there...thanks. Very disorganized, not professional at all, and clearly not experienced with body sensitive dogs. If they couldn't handle it, that's fine, that's why I asked ahead of time. just tell me, don't attempt it, do a half-ass job and still charge me $70. If you have a short haired dog, and just need a bath...it's probably fine, but I wouldn't bring your dog here if you have a breed with a complicated cut. They're not that experienced. read more

Please if you care about your pet, DO NOT SEND THEM TO THE GROOMING SALON!!! I took my 5 month old puppy there for a bath...her first time getting a bath at a salon. I know she HATES the blowdryer. She whines and shakes and is absolutely uncomfortable and terrified. When I dropped her off, I specified that if she clearly hates the dryer there to just not worry about drying her. I showed up after 2 hours because I figured that is plenty of time to bathe a puppy and cut their nails. I was waiting outside the grooming salon door for 15 minutes because there was another customer in there and I could hear my puppy SCREAMING. She is a husky so I know she can be vocal but she goes to daycare almost daily and is crate trained at home so even if she was in a crate, that is very unusual for her. I walked in and asked if she was done and they said she was CURRENTLY BEING CRATE DRIED. I asked what that meant and I was told that a bow dryer was left inside the crate to dry her. I was pissed. So not only is my 5 month old puppy left in a crate unattended, she is left with a dryer WHEN I TOLD THEM NOT TO DRY HER IF SHE IS UNCOMFORTABLE. I asked to speak to the manager Monica and she proceeds to tell me that Paisley was crying before the blow dryer ever touched her...so why the hell would you add a blowdryer to make her even more upset???! Monica, kasie, and the rest of the grooming salon team at petsmart should be ashamed of themselves for being so neglecting and careless with a dog let alone a puppy who's first time it was going to a grooming salon. I will never ever be taking any of my dogs to a petsmart ever again. The way they handled the situation was the icing on the cake and Monica has no business working there let alone being a manager. read more

I don't know if the groomer handled her too roughly or what but she had a neck injury. It was horrible. The staff was friendly but I will never bring her again because I have such a negative association. There was no way for me to prove she was injured here but shortly after I picked her up I noticed my dog wasn't the same. :( It took 2 weeks for her to fully recover. read more
