This is one of my happiest place on earth... haha! I love going here to see their Lizard sales specifically their Water Dragons ^_^ I love seeing customers' cute dogs as well. Sometimes they have a training class going on with the pets just remaining in their positions near the door. The staffs pretty friendly especially when you have a pet with you and give you a couple of pointers on how to take care of them, especially if you have a puppy. In general, I like PetSmart. However, their grooming service = fail. I took my dog here for his first (and last) time. We left him there for a few hours and when my mother and I took him home, we noticed he had a large gash on his back that later turned into a scar. My dog was pretty much scarred for life, and he hid under our table corner for a month or so. I mean, they could have at least told us they hurt him instead of leaving us to figure out why he was scared. Oh yeah, according to PETA, most PetSmart's don't take care of their hamsters (they die from massive diarrhea or whatever)... just be careful when you buy hamsters or rodents from them. read more

This petsmart is one of the bests I have been to. It is big, clean, and there is so much to look at. The store: there are so many helpful employees. People post negative comments about there not being anyone to help them. I understand what they are talking about but they need to realize that there are so many visitors to the store and there can only be so many associates. I always find what I need here and will always visit this store to buy my pet products. Petsmart has great deals and does price matches! The salon: There are many mixed reviews for the salon. I give the salon a full 5 star review as well. The groomers are always so friendly. If you happen to walk in to the salon on a busy Saturday they all welcome you and let you know that they will be right with you. Susie always grooms my poodle and does a phenomenal job. The only thing I don't like is how hard it is to book an appointment same day on the weekends, but it is understandable seeing as to how busy they are. read more

just saying...i have worked with a groomer from this store before and i can honestly say, i would not feel comfortable leaving my dog with this person. i'm glad there are windows for everyone to watch what goes on. i just think everyone in grooming needs to treat EVERY dog and cat as if they were their own and if they cant groom them or handle them, to let the owner know before continuing on with the grooming process. read more

Long story short, don't bother making an appointment here because 1. they don't give you the full service you pay for 2. they waste your time and don't schedule you for the service you want I came to this place with one of my dogs to get a pawdicure service which included several other things besides nail trim. I was watching while the groomer was doing my dog's nails. All she did was trim them, which she cut too short so my dog started bleeding. I understand that this can happen with dogs with black nails so I didn't make a fuss about it. After she trimmed my dog's nail, she returned my dog saying that she's done. I told her I got the pawdicure package which included feet shaving and other services. She was like "oh you wanted that?" which baffled me. Why would I pay for a service that I didn't want to get? She took my dog, shaved her feet and returned her. I didn't want to argue over what else she was supposed to do so I took my dog and left. Even after such a horrible experience with the nail grooming, I decided to give the bath and trim a chance as well. I mainly wanted a hair cut for my pom so I dropped by the store to make an appointment and ask about their services. The worker told me that they don't just do haircuts and that I would have to get a bath for my dog as well. I said this was fine and scheduled for two weeks later. On the day of my appointment, I show up and the worker tells me my dog is only scheduled for a bath so they will not be cutting his hair. I told them that's not what I scheduled for and that the only reason I'm getting a bath in the first place is to get my dog's hair trimmed. They told me they can't do anything and that I would have to come back at another time. I will not be coming back here. read more

This one - It's clean, people are friendly but like a lot of commercial chain stores they may or may not have what you need but will generally carry basic items. Price is average/competitive but nothing to write home about. Good shop if you need basic items and you need it now (aka I ran out of dog food and need to come home with a bag) but not your specialty store. read more

I waited and watched from down the aisle and didn't see or hear him or any other cashier do that to a customer entering the store. I'm not a regular customer. This is my first time taking my dog for a groom at Petsmart. My son dropped off Samie around 3pm and the groomer told him she will be already between 7-10pm today, Tuesday. Around 5pm, a woman called and left a message on my cell that Samie is ready to be picked up. I wonder if my dog was rushed through grooming! I have a very busy schedule so I normally groom my dog at home. Samie is a Coton De Tulear, a French dog similar look to Maltese, but a bigger version. She has long hair all along; no matter how matted she is, I was able to get all her knots out with the proper tools that I have. Not only that she was shaved off completely including her ears and her tail, Samie has little cuts all over her body. The most obvious one is her tail. The gentleman alarmed me when I picked up Samie about a cut on her neck; he said she scratched it after he shaved off the knots. I actually believed him, but of course I was not happy seeing my dog bleeding. On the way home, my son was holding Samie; she was quite and hardly barked at anyone at the red lights,( she normally barks at everyone). My son noticed a trace of blood on his finger and Samie's tail was completely shaved off; her tail was bleeding, probably more during grooming time. There Is NOT a reason for a groomer to do this unless he is heartless. I can use stronger words, animal cruelty, but I want to leave some space for him to think twice of what he did; Will he be happy if a barber scratches his scalp to the point that he bleeds? I called the store Manager Ben to report the incident and he asked me to bring back the dog so the Veterinarian on board can take a look at Samie and he also offered a full refund of 57.00. Even if he paid me three times as much, it won't undue this horrible experience. Well, the groomer should have taken care of this matter even before I picked up Samie. Obviously, they were ignoring her cuts and blamed Samie for scratching to cause a 1cm cut on her neck. Now my dog should looks like a gremlin, not a Coton De Tulear. Do not bring your dog to Pet smart. If they screen groomers properly, Samie's incident won't happen. I really don't want to bring his name up as I want him to think twice again for being a groomer, at least have a heart to groom the animal. I am not a professional groomer, but I know it is almost impossible to scratch the skin. Unless: 1. you don't care 2. rush to leave or to complete the task I did not receive any phone calls for permission to shave everything off Samie. read more

This is for the front desk assistant Caroline at the vet! I was given a call yesterday from her to remind me that my appointment for my puppy's vaccination will be at 10am. When I got there, I told her I was here for my puppy's appointment and she gave me a rude look and told me that there is no 10 o clock appointment. I asked her to check and she said my appointment was at 945. She also told me because I was late, they would need to reschedule it. She also clarified that no one would have told me the appointment was at 10 when it clearly said 945 on the comptuer. I pulled out my phone and let her hear the voicemail, which she realized she made the call for me. She rudely apologized and said to come back for another appointment. Very rude and unprofessional. I decided to transfer my puppy to a different Banfield Hospital. read more

This review is for Petsmart's "Doggie Day Camp". I took my puppy for there about 3 months, twice per week. There were two separate occasions where she was hurt very badly by other dogs, the first being when she was grabbed by the throat by another dog, and it swelled up. It was $200 at the vet, which they did pay for. Because they seemed concerned, I gave them another chance. A few weeks later, another dog attacked my puppy's eye, which gave her an enormous blister on her eyeball. They said it was just cherry eye, and just took her out of the camp and cleaned her eye out. I understand dog's can play rough, but I don't believe that Petsmart watch the dogs carefully enough. Either that or they do not screen the dogs well enough. Beware that you may not pick your dog up as healthy and happy as you dropped them off. read more

I really have to say that this place really deserves no stars. I was very disappointed by the service that I have received here. The second time i came here, I was returning my hamster and was looking for a siberian hamster to replace it with because i thought the robo hamster was too energetic for my boyfriends little sister. I told the woman at the register what i was looking for and some other employee chimes in and starts telling me what a mistake it would be for me to get a siberian because they're mean. I keep telling her that i have my mind set on it, but she keeps pushing it as if it was going to be her hamster or something, so i just leave. If you are ever planning on calling this store to see if they have something in stock, rethink it! They are horrible with their phone lines. I was put on hold four times for 15 minutes just for them to tell me they did not have what i was looking for. Not only was i put on hold four times, but it was with four different people asking me repetitive questions. The management in this store really needs to step it up and train their employees, otherwise i can see this store closing in no time. read more

My dogs Kobe and Mochi go there every 4 weeks and I am always impressed. If there is a line, it is worth the wait. read more

They've warned me about P&G products and how often they're recalled for contamination. Generally well-stocked but they still seem to selling old bags of Wellness. Went to exchange 4 cans of premium cat food for a different flavor (my cats didn't eat a fish variety of Simply Nourish). The cashier told me their policy changed and I couldn't exchange them without a receipt (surprise to me), and they wouldn't look up my purchase history on my Perks account. I spend over $300/mo. at this location on premium cat food products. After today, I won't go back. I am giving the grooming department a 3 star I brought my dog here 2x already and both times I been happy with the out come. Each time I had a special package done on my dog. At first I was hesitant to bring my dog here cause of all the low reviews, but I took a chance and tried it out. I made a appointment for my dog over the phone and the worker there were patience enough to go over the different packages they have to offer. So when I got there I was greeted from the time you step in the store and also when you go into the grooming department. Once i got into the grooming department witch was not busy maybe cause of the time of day when I went there witch was around 4pm. They helped me right away took my dog to the back and 2hrs later he came out with no problem. So I would of gave them 4 stars but I am waiting on that after I try to bring my dog for a 3rd time and hopefully i can give them another star. Keep up the good work grooming department read more

Very Bad Service FISH DEPARTMENT!!! Lol Clerk refuse to sell me 4 gold fish because I only have a 10 gallon tank. She said my tank was to small to put them. I have been in the aquarium life for many year since I was 8 year old and now am into SPS and LPS reef with high end fishes. I currently own 300 gallon and other smaller tank. That why it so funny. This tank is for my 10 year old and not me. I went into this petsmart because my husband works down the street from here. I went to go get some fish because my catfish just died :/ well i look at all the tanks and its gross, i finally find the albino catfish but then i see how many dead catfish there are in the tanks... plus it looks like they hadn't ever gravel vacumed one of their tanks in a month or so. There was bright green algae all over that tank. Instead of buying some fish that might get my tank sick i just bought the filters and stuff that i needed. I know it's not that hard to at least clean your tanks. read more

Horrible. Horrible. Horrible. I was desperate so I took my doggie to this Petsmart for grooming. I asked for a trim and they insisted I choose from a chart how short I wanted her hair. When my baby came home, they had cut her hair so short, I couldn't even recognize her. They also didn't do that great of a job. Some parts were longer than other parts and she had a few blad spots. My dog was also acting weird, definitely not herself. She was super needy, very somber, did not eat and ended up peeing on the carpet (which she NEVER does). They charge more than Barkley Square, which I highly recommend, and for some reason I feel as though they don't treat pets too well. But that's just an assumption. read more

I had needed to get my Chihuahuas nails trimmed and I was really hesitant to get it at petsmart-well period due to reviews that people have said that they dont really do a quality job. And after reading a lot of the reviews on here I was really nervous but it was the closest to me and since many of the bad reviews were older so I decided to give it a shot. I was really pleased with my experience there. My boyfriend and I took our dog in and decided to look around the store first. All the other owners had really sweet dogs as well and Biddle (who normally hates going to Petsmart) really enjoyed walking around and socializing with other dogs. There was also a ton of things on clearance!! I love clearance so we had a great time going through all the bins. We ended up leaving with a new magnent for my car. [its adorable. It says stop and pet me. :) ] Normally six dollars, now only 2. We walked back to the groomers finally. They were pretty busy and I was watching them trim the animals. I had read many reviews about their chop jobs. But in my boyfriend and I's opinion they looked really clean cut. The dog closest to us was almost done and the lady was setting him up with a mohawk. It was adorable. She said it was her favorite part of that cut style. And I honestly dont see why people complain so much about their hair cuts, when choosing to do so they offer a booklet showing you how they cut each bread (because that is how they are trained to do so. If you want more then that you should probably go somewhere else..Its a chain, not a private puppy parlor people. lol) But they were super nice and talkative. They called their assistant back to check us in for our nail grind. She explained us the difference between a nail trim and nail grind. A nail trim is literally just a cut. Thats all they'll do. It typically leaves the nails sharper for larger or outdoor dogs. And she asked if we hold our dog a lot (which we do, because he's so small). And suggested we get the grind which will keep his nails smooth so we dont get scratched. We walked the store for about 10 minutes until we were called over the intercom as the parents of Biddle. (so adorable-like might I ad.) And the job was great. It wasnt too long and they were smooth. [Which my roommates were thankful for! haha]. Also, their adopotion apartment was way better then the one at the Plant! (downtown San Jose). They had a wider selection of young playful kittens. If only my dog Biddle liked cats we would have adopted Max (a 10 week old calico. SUPER playful. We adore him.) Also, during check up the cashier was super friendly and nice. They did the usual give a dog a bone and she multitasked some paper work too which was cool. anyways, my point is. I actually recommend this store and their workers! read more

i've always been a loyal client to Petsmart's Grooming Salon in Milpitas. They are really friendly and helpful especially in times when i've walked in for a nail trim/bang trip/butt squeeze/ear cleaning even if i don't have an appointment. They try to accommodate my Jeiko even in their most busy hours. I have a yorkshire terrier, and i guess for ages under 6 months, they charge less for a full groom. It's not like there's much difference in the size of a yorkie being a 6 month old puppy as to being a year old ; but they charge double when theyre over 6 months. A full groom of my yorkie costs over $40. That is a little pricey considering how fast their hair grows. I give my yorkie a bath but i'm just too chicken to trim my dog's facial hair..esp the ones sticking near his eyes. (i got scared coz as i was waiting in Banfield one day, an owner accidentally snipped part of her dog's tongue while grooming her dog)... But anyway...for my dog's grooming needs, i give my full trust to Petsmart's grooming associates. -- as long as my dog's haircut isn't more expensive than mine. read more

My dog has fleas. So, I stood in front of the wall of flea treatments and was bamboozled by the wide selection. A young man dropped by to help educate me in the ways of flea control. He knew his product info, I guess, because I don't have the time to verify, and digging around on the network on my crappy phone is not enjoyable. Anyway, I selected by price and how much my dog has suffered, made a purchase and tried it out. Guess I'll be going back for flea shampoo, because I want to kill every last one of those buggers. Horrible experience with Pet Training: during our second session I had an argument with the trainer (I merely questioned her why they have a particular policy of "no choke collar" and after difficulty first, she did explain their policy of positive reinforcement which is fine with me). we did 5 sessions of puppy training and then the trainer says she is "not comfortable" training my pet for intermediate and advanced session and wants to refund as there is no other trainer available. I'm fine with the refund for remaining sessions, but this policy of kicking out a puppy is very pathetic. Schools don't dismiss a child in the middle of school year if they have difficulty training a child. What that tells me is that petsmart will only train puppies that are easy to train. If I take my puppy now to a different training school - they are going to again start from the basic/puppy training (since no one starts with intermediate) and I will have to pay again. Ridiculous!! Never again. I heard bad reviews about petsmart training early on but I had already paid and booked the sessions by then. I did not want to cancel and ask for refund. My bad, should have done that long ago. read more

I take my dog here for regular groomings. They are decently priced and the groomers do a great job. They did go through quite a few groomers/management in a short time period (I like to keep my dog with the same groomer, since she gets to "know" them). I went through 5 regular groomers within a year or so. Hopefully this current one decides to stick around! This place is really clean, the animals usually look perky and happy!! Customer service is usually lacking, the people disappear somewhere when you're trying to track em down. But they have lots of things here, can be sorta pricey even if you have their "Pets Perk" Card. The people who actually take your order are usually really friendly, and if you're relaly tired of looking for someone to help you, try asking them to grab someone and they'll do it. Coming into PetSmart I was greeted very kindly by a couple of people, looked around, the place was clean, and orderly. I walked into the small grooming room that they had and just strolled in with no appointment because I had no idea we were supposed to make an appointment since this was my first time here. At the desk/counter, I was patiently waiting with my puppy Yoshi to be helped by someone. One of the groomers (or whatever we're supposed to call them) were being "grilled" by a customer over the phone and I could tell she wasn't so pleased. She hung up, made some nasty comments about the customer that she had just spoke with and pretty much snarled about it all the way to the back room...and pretty much ignored me so I had to wait for someone else to help me... Someone came up to the counter and asked if I've been helped; told her that I needed to have Yoshi's hair trimmed and nails cut. Since I didn't have an appointment she told me that was a-okay and said she would be able to take him in. (Which was really nice of them on a short notice!) She made sure that Yoshi was comfortable with her and Yoshi was actually happy since he's usually a really mean and vicious puppy for such a small guy (maltese-shi-tzu mix). She also suggested to have his ears cleaned too just in case of infections that might form in his ear from all the hair build-up. (Made me feel like she actually cared! =)) Only about an hour or so later, she calls me back to pick him up, he looked really clean and soft! Took him home but didn't realize until a day later when I actually got to have a good look at him, that his left eye lash was cut off but the other eyelash was still left there... it looked so sad on him and uneven, and also the cut was uneven... =( The people are nice... but the grooming isn't so great... read more

My Tofu gets groomed here almost every month....we should be earning frequent flying miles or something. Anyways, the groomer Joon is great. She does a wonderful job. Gives advice and isn't afraid to tell you what youre doing wrong with your dog. My most recent visit wasn't great though because Joon didn't cut his hair and the lady that did do it seemed like a rookie and made Tofu look rather odd even though it was just a simple shave down for the summer. I always like watching the dog training that goes on when I'm there. The staff that does that seems to know what they're doing. Haven't asked for help with products they sold so don't know if they're any good with that. read more

i like how this place is enormous. great when you have an energetic dog who is eager to run everywhere. the good: Aki the dog trainer. his patience with my dog and the other dogs is amazing. he is very skilled and professional. overall, this place is fairly clean, organized with a knowledgeable staff. the bad: the groomer dept. my dog became a dog groomer- phobic after going to this place a few times. its weird because my dog was never scared of baths until after i brought him to this place. the first couple times were ok, but then the next couple of times were crap. read more

I was (also) saddened to see that this place had such a poor overall score. I read some of the bad reviews and notice a trend...the grooming there must suck. Ok, so if you have a pet that needs grooming, do not come to this place. Fair enough. I have 2 cats and I have come here many times in the past two years for litter, food, supplies, toys, treats, and carriers. Most of the staff is great, and several of them have specialties where they try to know more knowledge than the standard cashier (like there are two people who specialize in cat food, knowing ingredients, process quality, flavor ratings, and company quality standards). Their selections are good and the price is reasonable. As for the smell, that is the water treatment plant which supplies water to Sunnyvale, Milpitas, Alviso, and half of Santa Clara. Yes, it smells. That is what happens when you want clean water to take a nice bath in. Someone has to clean it and that smells bad. It is not harmful to anyone. I really don't think you should be taking away stars from PetSmart because they are located near your water treatment plant. I think it is a little hypocritical even, unless you don't take showers in your home (in which case you probably smell pretty bad yourself). Bottom line: You need food or supplies for you pets, this is a good place to go. You need to groom your dog, keep looking on Yelp. read more
