Several hours after her non-anesthesia cleaning
Vila B.

Professional, friendly, and caring team...and my dog's teeth look fantastic. I made the appointment at Maxwell's Pet Bar in SF and the team were ready to go. They greeted my dog like pros, of course, and she loved them. After the cleaning, they took time to give me some useful and simple, realistic tips to keep her teeth clean.

Happy Client

A happy client with pearly whites We found this non-anesthesia pet dental service after an extensive search. The appointment begins with a vet consult and quick vitals. The hygienist followed up with the cleaning. She was very thorough and patient with our squirmy senior pup. We were given plenty of tips on how to brush daily etc. Will definitely become a repeat client.

We can't imagine being without Maia and Verena and the pettooth team (e.g. Dr. Sarah Daniel). They are professional, kind, gentle, thoughtful, and thorough. Our wonderful mongrels have a better life thanks to them.

Before vs. after my dog's Maia Bee cleaning
Grace C.

Maia does free dental consultations for cats & dogs to assess their dental needs. She has appointments available at the Petvet Petfood locations in Oakland and in El Cerrito. The CONSULTATION: I initially took my 9-month-old pup to Maia because I was worried about her stinky breath and some brown discoloration on some of her teeth. She seems to have a great way with dogs & was gentle and soothing when examining my dog's mouth. The CLEANING: One year later, I took my almost-2-year-old dog back to Maia for another free consultation. Then, we scheduled a 40-minute appointment for the cleaning (cost: $80). Maia was gentle but firm with Maddie whenever Maddie struggled, and I got to be there to watch the entire cleaning. Afterward, her teeth were so much cleaner! Maia Bee seems very conscientious and genuinely wanted what's best for Maddie. I don't feel like she's just in it for the money because she told us at the first visit that Maddie's teeth were fine & no cleaning was needed -- just brushing gently every day should do the trick. Also, I got to listen to a couple of other dogs' consultations & sometimes she would tell them that anesthesia-free wasn't right for that dog because the dog's dental condition warranted a full dental cleaning under anesthesia. She was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions regarding dental health. She also gave us recommendations on how we can prevent further gum & dental problems. I highly recommend Maia Bee. CASH or CHECK only.

I’m so glad I found Mai Bee! I needed to get my seniors’ teeth cleaned (the ones she has left!) but didn’t want to put her under anesthesia.

I'm so glad I found Mai Bee! I needed to get my seniors' teeth cleaned (the ones she has left!) but didn't want to put her under anesthesia. Also, most places charge an arm and a leg. I've taken her twice and her vets always comment on how good her teeth look for her age. You need to go twice, once for exam and once to get the teeth cleaned. It's really worth it to me though. Also, doesn't seem to be too traumatic for my dog. She takes it all in stride which is a great sign. I always recommend her to friends, and will always take my current dog and any future dogs here. They make it as easy as it gets.

Squeaky Clean!

My 2 year old pupperoo Charlie had developed some tartar and I felt bad because I haven't made the time to brush his teeth regularly. To avoid long term health problems, I started researching the cost and process for teeth cleaning. The majority of options consisted of the expensive process of putting your dog under anesthesia for the cleaning. Thank goodness I found Pettooth! I scheduled my evaluation knowing that there was a chance that they'd turn away the pup if the job required him to get the full procedure at the vet. I arrived to my appointment and notified the staff that my pup can be leash reactive towards other big dogs (we're working on that) and the staff was very accommodating and adjusted a few things to make us feel welcome and allow Charlie to be calm in a small place with other pups. They were very sweet and let Charlie give them kisses. I screwed up by not taking a "before" picture to show the comparison but the result was great! Now he was nice clean teeth and we're going to work on integrating brushing into his routine. We'll definitely be recommending Pettooth to friends and family. :-)

What vaccinations are required for a dog dental cleaning?

I don't think there are any, but you should ask Pettooth. I took my cat, who hasn't been vaccinated in years. They didn't ask me about it.

My dog has an upcoming appointment and I was wondering if I could give my dog CBD prior to the appointment to help her relax?

Well, my usual grooming place no longer offers full grooming services beyond a bath so I was in search of a new spot. Pawber Shop's current location is only a few blocks away from my previous groomer so it worked out. Giving it another shot, I made my appointment and brought my senior pup in. Didn't give super detailed instructions but when it was time for pick up, my guy was looking and smelling real good. The girls were real nice and it was a very seamless in and out for us. Booking an appointment is simple, and she's consistently on time and efficient, finishing the cut in a reasonable timeframe. There's metered street parking right outside, though Ocean Avenue can get a bit busy. That said, I never feel rushed, and I always appreciate the care and attention Fiona gives each pup. I highly recommend her to any pet parent looking for a kind, reliable, and loving groomer.

Ever since, I have been going to them for vaccines, yearly exam (1 only; the dog is still young). Thise visits are never fun. I am more nervous than my dog. I had t9 come back a few days ago for the sides effects of the vaccine. They took him in within minutes and took care of mt dog. The quality of the service is great from the front desk to the technicians and doctors. Nobody has tried to force us into vitamins, supplements, medications, etc. We have our favorites there already. In a little over a year, I have noticed that I see the same people working there. That's a good sign for a business. We even managed to see the same doctor twice in three visits. Those are sure signs of a quality business. Like I said, vet visits are never fun, but I will keep coming back to the place when necessary.

There were genuine positives about my experience. When I could only afford one day of the quoted three-day stay, they extended his stay without charge to ensure his pancreas levels improved. The ER doctor was caring and thoroughly answered my questions. The vet tech that first night was exceptional, she included me in his care, brought me a Gatorade, and spent her time between patients trying to find something he'd eat. She was outstanding. My main feedback is that the communication at this clinic was a consistent problem, and it affected Patches' care directly. I was handed an invoice before anyone had a real conversation with me about my dog. I was told to wait in a room, then sent back to the waiting room, then called back after another half hour with no explanation. On the second night, I arrived at 10 PM and asked the technician when Patches had last been outside to go potty. He said he didn't know. The chart said noon. Ten hours -- while they were pumping him with IV fluids, in a dog with kidney disease. When I raised the issue, the tech awkwardly told me "there's no neglect here." Although I'm sure it's not intentional, there is no excuse. If your internal communication is so bad that you are neglecting patients because of it, then it needs to be resolved immediately. After discharge, his levels worsened significantly within a week. I don't know why the doctor said that we should do fluid therapy every three days and then see how it goes from there. What happened was he ended up needing daily fluid therapy and his levels were so high that he needed to be hospitalized again after one week. If we had just done daily fluid therapy for the entire first week, maybe his levels wouldn't have ever gotten that high. These are all things that we would've been able to communicate about if there was any sort of communication throughout the whole process. I also would've liked to have known that gabapentin is for palliative care and it destroys your kidneys. I was told to give it to him following his hospitalization and his kidney levels went from stage three to double the maximum of end stage kidney failure within one week. The vet nutritionist said that this was all manageable with diet and fluid therapy and the veterinarian at the hospital said that if I don't put him down within a week, he would become violently ill and I shouldn't let it get that far. I met about five different doctors during that week, and 3 different vet techs. As you can tell from reading this, I was being told a lot of different things by a lot of different people. This was a very stressful and chaotic time for me. Meanwhile, my dog is in pain, loosing his energy and appetite and being neglected in critical care, of all the places. It would've been nice if I had somebody who wasn't being pulled away to take care of animals to just sit down and talk to me. I believe this is a capable team and I understand you guys are doing really hard work. My situation was complicated and it was the end of his life, so it's hard to say that anything could've gotten much better. But I am upset about the lack of communication and it does need to be addressed.

Here's my story: We had just moved to San Francisco after having lived in London for the past five years. And while we didn't have to go through the hassle of finding a good school for kids, we did have to find a good dog walker, as both my partner and I are working in downtown San Francisco and want our dog Momo to be exercised during the day. And while finding any dog walker is really easy, it can be challenging to find a really good dog walker. The way we found Laura and Stephen was actually quite interesting: the super-friendly guy at the local corner shop recommended them to us! What we really liked about Laura and Stephen are the following points: - Their website is very informative website; for example, they list a bunch of information on what you need to be aware as new citizens of San Francisco; - It's typically two people walking the dogs; - They go to the beach, which our dog simply loves! (And they clean her well afterwards, so that our apartment wouldn't be full of sand.) - They are very trustworthy & reliable! - Especially in the beginning they would send us photos of Momo, which we really loved. After all, a dog is like a child and you just want to know that they're in good hands! So, you live in Castro area and need a dog walker? - Laura & Stephen from Dog Days by the Bay should be on your list! As they say on their website: Your dog will be able to run, swim, play fetch and most importantly return home happy and tired!

When we get home from work on weekends we get a spinning, panting, excited puppy who can't wait to go outside and needs a lot of attention (she doesn't know she's 10 years old). On weekdays, we get a tail-wag from the bed and maybe a slow sheepish walk to the door because she is too dang tired to bother with us. We barely even have to let her out before going to bed! Why? Because Audrey spends her days running on the beach with her pack, swimming and frolicking in the sand... Her all-time fav day, 5x a week! Laura and Steve are great at communicating policies like holiday schedules and accommodating vet appointments, etc. They are sensitive to how our pup has been attacked on 4 separate occasions while with dog walkers and do everything they can to keep her safe, even steering clear of dogs not in the pre-approved pack. I also love that they put tags on all the dogs in the pack with their contact info, so someone can identify them as part of a group. Steve has an instagram up and running and will occasionally text me pics of Audrey mutt having fun. Makes a work day much better! They also leave little notes about what Audrey did that day. Highly recommend!
