PGA West Team I recently had the misfortune of playing at Nicklaus Tournament Course and I can confidently say it was one of the worst golf experiences I've ever had. After an exhausting seven-hour journey to get there, I was expecting at least a well-run course with decent service. Instead, what I encountered was pure frustration. The welcoming team that took our bags were amazing. They were very professional which the pro shop desk could take notes from. The Marshal was very knowledgeable and professional. Unfortunately he didn't check for proof of purchase which led to immediately confusion for the clubhouse. From the very start, 1st hole on the fairway is where we were met by the marshal asking us to show him proof of purchase. We were harassed four separate times during our round by staff demanding to see proof of payment. We showed the Marshal our proof of purchase the very first time he came out to ask us. Even with that they continued to harass us continuously. Instead of properly managing their tee times and checking players before they started, they allowed this disruptive and unnecessary situation to happen repeatedly. It was frustrating, humiliating, and completely ruined the flow of our game. I've played at many superior courses that actually value their guests and take pride in their facilities. Compared to them, this place was a joke. The fact that I spent a full day traveling to and from this disaster of customer service makes it even more frustrating. I wouldn't recommend this course to anyone. Not due to its course but its clubhouse employees. This doesn't take away from its great course aesthetics but takes great people from playing your courses. Save your money, your time, and your sanity--play somewhere that actually cares about the game and its guests. Indian Wells and Classic Club were very Professional. They had amazing people and their customer service was top tier. read more

PGA West Nicklaus Tournament Course - Golf Near Me - La Quinta, California

This was my second day at PGA West, this time playing the Jack Nicklaus Tournament Course. All the staff at PGA West are super nice while taking care of your bags and getting checked-in as well as leaving the course after the round. This course is totally different as it was similar to many of the courses in NorCal. In fact it reminded me of Cordevalle in San Martin. I played the blue tees at about 6500 yards and the course was in excellent condition. The fairways are perfect and the greens were super smooth. Jack Nicklaus likes to put weird things like water, mounds, valleys and some bunkers in the fairways. There was an amazing par-5 which ended in an island green. I did notice that the green had a bunker in the back which could catch long shots (which happened to me). Best approach is to go as far as you can along the fairway before hitting on the green. The reason is that the wind tends to be in your face. The course was a little hard so shorter approaches were the plays of the day. I really had a great time at the two PGA West courses and will definitely come back again. I recommend these courses as part of one's bucket list to play. read more

I had an incredibly disappointing experience here. The course was good, some dry spots but overall pretty good and challenging course. Marshall was nice, so was the starter, but these other guys, the ones who clean carts and help out are horrific. When I went to return my cart one of the guys goes "Hey can I help you with the clubs", I said no worries no need to clean them or anything I got it. He then gets all pissy and then tells me I need to take the trash and throw it in the trashcan. Then tells me I need to walk to my car. Wait, what's your job? I just paid $100 for a round of golf and now I have to clean my cart and walk myself in 110 degree heat to my car?! I know this sounds like a small thing, but after 18 holes and 110 degree heat carrying a set if golf clubs is not easy. Plus I have a bad back which makes it worse. I went in the direction of the club house, since there's some AC and he told me I cant go there! It was the guy with the hard east coastish accent, such a disrespectful person. Not to mention he rolled his eyes when I started my round and asked him for a wet towel for my clubs. There are soooo many amazing courses in the area, Indian Wells being one, where they truly take care of you for the same price. Same your money and go elsewhere. read more

Lots of challenges on this course. If you have a tendency to slice the ball you may hit a home or two. Nice clubhouse but the service is lacking ( very slow). Cost quite a bit but is worth it. read more

Stellar golfing experience. Bought a Peter Miller jacket and the most comfortable pair of golf shoes I've ever worn (Foot Joys) at the pro shop. All greens were well kept and the course was challenging. Staff on point too. Special spot for competitive golf. read more

Ok....so I might be a little biased but hey...it's not what you know it's who you know... I have played 5 of the 6 courses here....I prefer the Weiskopf course because the layout is fairly wide open....better for my game..... But if you are looking for a scenic course...you must try the Palmer or Nicklaus Private courses.... Get to know a member!!!! Both of these course run against the mountains and later in the afternoon on the Palmer course you may get a chance to see some Bighorn sheep up and close. I guess I'm lucky that my brother is a member here so I get to try all the courses with him...... Staff is friendly and courteous....only bummer is that the Cart Girls usually only go to the public courses because the members usually bring there own stuff.... I need my mid day Bloody Mary to help my game!!!!! Hahah Met some good people here!!! Great place to enjoy Golf!! read more

Great golf courses Challenging but not mean Greens did not hold but weren't overly fast. Two downers - pace of play was not kept up, we had a couple drunk groups ahead of us and the Marshalls were nice but not overly effective. Waiting on every shot ... Also, several of the bunkers had no sand , just hardpan. read more

This place is like a golf shrine. I felt like I was stepping into golf history, many of greats have played here and it evident by the naming of the bar and holes. The bar is swank and the golf shop is too notch. The Stadium Course is tough with the rough, water, long fairway bunkers and undulating fairways. But if your a golf fan and a above average golfer this place is a must. read more

Beautiful place for golf! I actually learned how to play here on the Stadium course many years ago. I had been around the course on a cart before deciding to play. It wasn't always easy being such a busy course but the staff are great and the course is gorgeous. Not a fan of summer play but there is no hurry with tee times during this time. During the winter tee times are strictly adhered to, apparently. The rangers were kind to me being a newbie and gave fun tips sometimes. The clubhouse has amazing food! I loved their large fresh salads and breakfast sandwiches. There is a snack shop around the 9th hole with some food but plenty of drinks. I think they still have a snack cart going around all year which was heavily utilized by our group. read more

The stadium course is a real challenge for anyone. Played with two single handicaps and two 18-20 handicap. All had fun play from appropriate tees. Lots of sand and water. Bunkers are tough as they are deep. Accuracy is more important than distance. Playable course if you spring for the 9.00 dollar course booklet. Plenty of tees too chose from. Not easy but playable. All facilities available. Good range kinda small chipping area with bunker. Reasonable pace of play with ranger coming around frequently which is good. Refreshment stands and cart so should be able to eat drink what you want. Good practice green. All in all one of the better resorts I have been too. What great golf....no better place in CA with so many very good to excellent golf courses. Come down in the summer and they almost pay you to play the courses. Couple on the Bob Hope List. Try the Stadium Course for life's true test. read more

We were unexpectedly invited as guests to play this course. Glad we accepted the offer. 1 Not having clubs, nor anything with us because we are here on a 4-day flight layover (even had to buy shorts because jeans are not allowed, which is a policy I agree). 2 Not played a round of golf in 5 years, I spent time on the driving range to warm up. 3 Started at 1:30 in the afternoon on a perfect day weather-wise. 4 Actually finished 18 before dark. 5 The course is stunning. The water hazards and sand traps did not bother me. Still played a fun round. The staff at this place are outstanding, there for any needs. Would like to return sometime! read more

Played the Stadium course. The starter describes it as "The toughest test of golf in the nation". Beautiful course, beautiful facilities and fast, friendly service! Had the clubs shipped here a day before my arrival and they were on the cart and ready for me when I arrived. Good thing too because my flight was late getting in to LAX and I had to move quickly. They were very accommodating though, even let me tee off a few minutes late just to get a little warm up time at the practice tee. There were no groups behind us so it really wasn't a problem. Wish the pro shop would have stayed open a bit longer so I could have gotten a shirt but we did finish very close to dark. Valet service was fantastic, kept the car close for me. The course? Everything you would expect from a TPC facility. I've played 4 TPC courses in my life coast to coast (with more to come) and they never disappoint. read more

Worst food service ever! Tried to order ahead on #8 and Ernie's bar and grill said order from the snack bar at the turn. Snack bar closed when we got there. No one said along the way it was closed. Great golf couses but the membership is a bunch of A holes and Bitches. All rude full of themselves members with no social skills. Do not join this club they took our 125k and went bankrupt. They promised that they would be making manny upgrades to the property when the had no intention of doing anything. The membership dept will say anything to get u to pony up your money and then you are on your own. read more

i've played all the courses on the public side and i gotta say, this place is dang awesome. the stadium course is the hardest and it takes some getting used to. all the little undulations on the fairway really messes with your internal gps as to where you should hit. on of the their signature holes, alcatraz is daunting but if you forget about the water, it's very doable. i actually prefer the greg norman course. it's away from the others so you have to drive, can't get there by cart, but it was very picturesque. i normally don't like target golf but this was the exception. each hole looked a little different but the same and i felt like i was playing golf in a dream... the nicklaus course is fun esp the last couple of holes.... tough couple of holes... i prefer the other 2 but that doesn't mean this course sucks... it's tough but good. i give the other courses 5s and this one a 3 1/2... the clubhouse is awesome. the golf tees have their logo on it. facilities are top notch. practice area gr8. the last 3 minutes of the drive keeps you in anticipation. you're like where the heck is this place as you drive through all the private communities and private courses you wish you could play someday... then PGA WEST hits and you're like, oh yeah, it's on baby!!! you can get the birdie card from roger dunn and it's 2 for 1 green fees... there are some other gr8 deals online but it's when it's hotter so you will bake some :) read more

I have played many of the best courses in the country and the PGA West are world class. The Nicklaus is very challenging. Great greens and lots of character. Palmer has alot of water. Very good condition. The Stadium Course has amongst the highest slope on the West coast. The mountains that border La Quinta are breathtaking. Also the food and events in the club are great. OK, this course hosts a PGA event...but I just wasn't all that impressed. Reminds me of Torrey Pines, if you're there just before or after the pros are the course is in great shape, otherwise it has limitations. The Good: Visually attractive, lots of undulation, water views, attentive staff, nice clubhouse and good practice facilities. Greens firm, fast (running close to 11 the day I played) and putt true. Killer bloody Mary's from the tap on the hostess golf cart (can't make that up). Fairways overseeded and lush. The Not So Good: If your ball wanders beyond the overseeded areas you find yourself on half-dormant Bermuda, makes for iffy, thin lies. Rough terribly punitive, 2+ inches thick 18" off the putting surfaces...if the ball sinks down and you're pitching into the grain you've got nothing but a "chunk and run" to small, fast greens...in other words you'll be pitching back from the other side. You could cut the rough down 1/2 inch, speed play by 20 minutes a round and take 4 strokes off of everyone's scores. Bunkers are hilariously hard in spots, trap surrounding #12 is easily 15' below the green, less than one player in 10 has the game to even have their shot touch the green, let alone stay on it. The bunker next to #16 looks like the result of strip mining, well beyond 20' down to the bottom from the edge of the green. I avoided both, but watching my playing partners who weren't so lucky was painful. Played Escena and Silver Rock on the same trip, recommend both over PGA West. read more

I have played these courses before and they are fantastic. That's where it ends. I recently attended a Charity event and purchased a foursome for a good cause. I have people coming in from out of town. The course management will not let me book the foursome until 3 days prior!!. These people want confirmation that we have a tee time, but LA QUINTA Management will not let me book until they are sure they have no paying customers playing. What a load of CR*P! They donated the foursome and I paid for it. Never ask these people for anything! they will not help you out. read more

First off, let me say I used to LOVE this place. A variety of great golf courses and each one different than the other. My family always rents a house on one of the courses over easter and the other dad and I always play at least 2 rounds. Yesterday we played the Nick course early in the morning and got behind 4 of the worst golfers to be on this course. There was no one in front of them and yet we had to wait every single shot the entire round. Now I get that this sometimes happens, but at a course of this COST and level, the marshall should have sped them up as well and let us and the others behind us play thru. It was the SLOWEST round I've ever played, 5 hours, and what made me most mad is that the Marshall did nothing to speed them along even after acknowledging they are slow. And on the 18th hole a worker came up to us on the tee (as we were waiting yet another 3+ minutes) admitting they were horrible and slow, yet offered no resolution but to say the Marshall's do nothing out here to help speed of play. And when I went to just "inform" the pro shop, I got "oh" and nothing else. Seems like they could care less...which is now what I do about PGA West. Way too many options our here to have a 5 hour round, VERY poor service, and a place that seems to think that it's MY privilege to be playing their golf courses. read more
