Definitely a location of one of my favorite Pho spots that still needs to iron out the kinks. Understandable since this is a new chain that recently opened up in Poway but for those used to the speed and seasoned staff of the Mira Mesa location, you may be better off frequenting there instead. Staff needs to work on being a bit more attentive and learning to deal with busy crowds, especially during peak lunch hours. Food was ok. I ordered their spring rolls which wasn't anything to write home about but was decent. Hubby thought his lemongrass pork chop was alright but a bit on the fatty side. And did prices go up and did portions shrink? Or are my eyes deceiving me? I need to compare to the other locations to be sure. It just wasn't as good as the Mira Mesa and RB locations to me which was a disappointment. But since the location is close during work hours, I may give them another shot due to pure convenience...but ONLY if I'm craving spring rolls and pho. Parking is the size of a postage stamp. Going back to my days living in SD, Pho Ca Dao was my go-to. This was my first time in the new location, and -- wow! Pho places are usually not this nice and modern. PCD has always done unusually great with cleanliness and speed of service -- my wife and I always joked about how quickly they fill up your water -- but the modern finishes here are wonderful and give the place a trendy vibe. Can you find cheaper pho? Yes. But if you care about ambience and flavor, I highly recommend PCD. One final note: they did get my order slightly wrong. I got the pho with rare steak and beef BALLS. The waitress thought I said beef broth. However, they were quick to respond to the mistake, and brought out an obscene number of beef balls to atone for their "sins." Well done! read more

Came in the day after the grand opening, and you could definitely tell the staff was new and having a lot of difficulty keeping up with the full house. Came in at 5:30 and got the last open table. Ordered and waited about 40 minutes for our food to arrive (Mira Mesa location takes what, less than 10?). Waitress hardly stopped by and never offered a water refill. The food was okay, not quite as tasty than their Mira Mesa locations. Pho broth seemed more bland. The portion was a lot smaller, at least for the bowl I got (Filet Mignon Pho, see side by side bowl picture with the standard white bowls I saw everyone else had). There was hardly any room in the bowl to mix things. They skimped on the meat. Did not seem quite as good of a value as the Mira Mesa location. They also only offer one size, no large size available on the menu and they did not ask size when ordering. Hardly any parking, awkward angle to turn into from the street (it angles backward immediately). Will maybe try again in a few months when servers get more experienced, but for now, even though this one is closer, I would rather make the drive to the Mira Mesa location. And actually I'd probably just stop at Pho Cow Cali instead. read more

This restaurant contains a different ambiance and vibe from the one in Mira Mesa. First of all, love the bar area, where you can watch sports and drink. Servers are ethnically diverse, where in most Pho places, most servers are vietnamese. I like that! The serving is little bit small compare to other Pho places, but the taste is the same. However, this Pho place got some class and elegance aura. The dishes are placed on high quality display, that makes you want to take a picture first before eating(foodie). I had the worst spring roll here! The wrapper was too chewy and there's barely any pork and shrimp. The rice noodle wasn't soft enough too. What has not been addressed yet was the prices compared to the same chain as in Mira Mesa and Ranch Bernardo. It's a buck more per item and the bowl is smaller. Order: 3 Chicken Noodle Soups, one with all white meat and no broccoli. The first two were delivered properly (with a little delay in between), and then waiter again inquired as to our last order. We said: chicken noodle soup, all white meat and no broccoli. The waiter then responded: "I hope it comes out right," and walked away. WHAAAAAAAT? To the owners of Pho Ca Dao, there is no "sense of humor" in this. This ridiculous/bizarre comment came from a member of your staff. Came here on opening week (second day of grand opening) and there was a long wait. I gave 4 stars with the understanding that I came when they just opened so I expect that they would improve and iron out their kinks. Right now it's more of a 3 Star. My parents got the vegetarian stir fry with rice, I got a broken rice dish with cha, bi and thit nuong (grilled meat), and my bf got the pho tai. The service was quite slow and we waited a long time for our food to come out, which turned out to be not bad but not amazing. My rice was a bit under cooked, my parent's stir fry did not look the least bit appetizing and the pho was very mediocre. I think this pho shop will have to step up since there are a good number of amazing pho places in SD to compete against it. I hope it improves on the service and food l! read more

I love Vietnamese food but had been hesitant to come to PCD because of the mixed reviews. But I finally went today and I was very pleasantly surprised. First, the restaurant is very large and modern and quite beautiful. I had the vegetarian bun which was delicious and my girlfriends really enjoyed their meals as well. I thought the portion size was generous and I brought home some leftovers. I think this Poway location compares favorably with Mira Mesa and Rancho Bernardo. The one thing that was kind of nice about Poway is that they aren't as busy and they don't rush you like the other locations often do. The prices were reasonable and the service was friendly. There were a couple things we needed that required a couple reminders but it was nothing earth shattering. I would definitely return! read more

I was very excited when I found out that Pho Ca Dao had just opened a new location, but the experience was dissapointing. The other locations have a reputation for incredibly quick service, but it took about 40 minutes to get our food, and the appetizers took just as long as the entrees. I also had to ask for limes three times before the waitress brought them. The vegetarian egg rolls were just as good here as at the other locations, but the pho broths aren't as flavorful and the plates of sprouts and herbs were missing a lot of the usual pho toppings (like basil and those long green leaves). My boyfriend's bowl of pho was also very tiny for some reason, served in a bowl 2/3 the size that everyone else got. The restaurant itself looks nice, with good decor, except that it was very dirty even though it's only been open for two days and there isn't enough parking. Hopefully most of the issues are just because this place is new. I'll come back in a month or so and revise my review if it gets better. read more

The latest incarnation of this local San Diego chain of pho restaurants, of which I am a long time patron of, is easily the best pho in Poway. Granted there are only two pho restaurants currently in Poway. The parking lot feels a bit cramped, with a few spaces out front and more in the back it seems. I came in the evening on a Friday with my two kids and we were seated immediately. Food service was not as fast as their other locations, but by no means slow. Staff were attentive, refilling my water glass several times, which is on par with other similar establishments. Unlike many other asian quick service restaurants, the staff here have been trained to repeatedly check in on customers even after their food has arrived, which was a pleasant surprise. Now for the food! We had 2 orders of spring rolls that came with the usual peanut sauce with a dash of Siracha. The rolls were freshly made because the rice paper was still sticky. Yay! The pho bowls seemed smaller than at other pho locations, like in Mira Mesa. The beef was ample, but the accompanying veggie plate was a bit meager. All three of our pho bowls had a mass of noodle huddled together under the broth which indicates to me that the noodles were cooked and sat in these bowls a bit longer when compared against other places that serve pho. But there was an ample amount of noodle to be eaten considering the bowl size, so kudos to that! The broth was a bit bland than I'm used to and the temperature was not the customary "burn your tongue off" hot that pho is known for. Overall the pho was better than ok, but not as good as this chain's other locations. This location just opened so there's going to be room for improvement. I'll be back! I just hope the broth will be stronger and the soup hotter by then. Then I hope to tack on another star just for those improvements alone read more

The person I spoke to on the phone was very pretentious. When I asked if they had any fried appetizers that were similar to cream cheese rangoons he replied with "um no this is a Vietnamese restaurant not a Chinese restaurant" in a snobby way, like I don't understand the difference. When I go to a restaurant and ask if they have anything similar I would expect to be guided in a similar direction not ridiculed. The first time we ate in, the server was terrible at refilling our water and completely forgot one of our parties meals. I eat here a few times a month and recently discovered their tofu options. The way they season and cook the tofu is so flavorful! I got the tofu bahn mi and the tofu and veggies egg roll bun last week and was blown away. The bahn mi costs more than the local place near my house, but the flavor is like 3x better! The options are vast here and they are very fast at prepping the food. My experience has always been takeout so I'm not able to say anything about dining in. Will update when I do! read more

Just don't. Never again. Brought my three year old in for dinner, we were sat, ordered our food and served. Halfway through the meal my toddler had to use the restroom, with daddy's help(me). After returning from the bathroom, we were shocked to find that our food had been cleared away! We asked the server where our dinner was and got a shrug. The tables of customers around us were shocked too as they realized what had happened. Just then, the cashier handed me the check at full price! No solutions or apologies were offered. I tried to contact the store manager or owner using their website info and received no response. I have gotten pick up and dine in from PCD and have had great experiences every time. Pick up- Legible sign on where to pick up and pay. Each time, the hostess or bartender was very friendly and happily gave me extra hoisin, sriracha, and basil mix when I asked for it. Everything was tightly packaged and bagged and was still very hot when I got home. Flavors were delicious and was just as good as if I had eaten it while dinning in. Dining in- All of the servers are very friendly and welcomed us as we were seated. Both times dining in, the booths and tables have been clean and not ripped. The napkins, chopsticks, and sauces are all well-stocked at the table. Very quickly we were brought water with lemon in it and our server came shortly after. Waters were refilled before they even became empty throughout the meal. The music was like 90s or early 2000's hits and wasn't too loud. Our regular order: Grilled Tofu spring rolls- so good! The tofu has such a Smokey bbq flavor! The peanut sauce is good, comes with a little spicy dollop of chili sauce on top. Grilled steak spring rolls- the best spring rolls ever! Ordered them without mint and it came without mint. It's very flavorful, there's so much meat, and it's tender. Vegetarian pho- very flavorful broth, veggies included peas pods, carrots, broccoli, and daikon. You can sub the original tofu for the grilled one for a change in flavor, but I always get the regular tofu. Lemongrass grilled steak pho- perfect as it was served, didn't need any sauces (unless you like it spicy). The best pho we've ever had! After our dinner we got to spend some time talking with someone who worked there named Dennis. We chatted with him for a while about how the business did with the Poway water advisory and asked about the sign we saw outside for the "lunar new year festival". He happily answered our questions and shared with us the history of the business as well as some of the traditions for the lunar new year. We also learned about his journey from Vietnam to the United States. We came in for delicious food, and were blessed to learn a little bit more about the culture and people who keep this wonderful restaurant running. My boyfriend and I normally order out here at least every other week. During Covid this was our go to restaurant, and by far my favorite pho in Poway. We love the food and during the times we've dined in never had any issues. However, I am so disappointed at how I was treated today. I placed a phone order for pho and egg rolls. It was difficult to understand the person who answered due to the language barrier. I repeated my order to make sure it was correct, then she repeated it and I responded with yes. Since we had order another time and it was difficult to understand her. I arrived at the restaurant and the younger gentlemen who greeted me gave me a total of $59. I was shocked, he then repeated my order which included 4 pho's and 6 egg rolls. I told him that I only ordered 1 pho along with the egg rolls He then proceeded to the back and explained my situation to the 2 ladies. Mind you I was still at the front door, however, I could hear the two speaking and one of them stating "she say OK OK OK." The polite gentlemen directed to me the two ladies. The older Vietnamese lady was willing to work with me asking if I had cash, but I told her I only had a card. As we were talking, the younger Vietnamese lady grabbed my order, looked at me and yelled "you say OK OK OK!" There were other people dining as well and I'm sure heard her. The way she looked at me and mocked me in such a rude tone made me so angry. She made me feel like I was a little kid and that it was all my fault. I told the lady who was attempting to help me that that it was difficult to understand her but that I did say yes. I then told the younger lady that she was rude, and I stormed off and left without my order. I had just got off a long day of work and was looking forward to my meal. I work as a nurse and encounter challenging people on a daily basis, however, I feel it's important to remain calm and provide good customer services skills regardless of the situation. I feel I did not receive that today. From this experience, I feel that the manager should re-train the staff. I would also suggest that the person who handles the phone orders is someone who speaks English well, to prevent something like this from happening (since I did mention before the language barrier from a previous order I had placed also caused a mistake). Sad to say but this is the last time I will be dining at this place. The food is great but the experience I had today with the rude lady is not worth my time or money. read more
