    Chili Momos

My friends and I had a mini 20 year reunion so we decided to dine in the Michelin Bib Gourmand Phayul. The place was somewhat hard to find because there were two locations. For drinks we got margaritas, cocktail, mango juice and butter tea. We ordered individual dishes so we ordered the following: Fried Lamb Ribs, Chilli Momos, Pan Fried Vegetable Momos, Steamed Chicken Momos, Lhasa Fried Noodles with Beef and Chicken. All of these dishes were filling and hit the spot. Portions were huge and took the rest home. I've had their momos before but this was my first time dining in. Great value. I definitely would return to try their soups and other dishes.

We visited here following the 13th annual momo crawl in Jackson Heights which this establishment did not participate in in 2025. Looking forTibetan cuisine on Yelp, this place came up. There are actually 2 locations on the same street, right across from each other. One location upstairs and the other on ground level. This is for the newer ground level spot. Small dining area, but 1 or 2 tables for groups available. Full bar and bottled bear selection. This are some tradional Tibetan dishes, and they do have momo, but dishes seem more a fusion of the Himalayan regions and and other fare. I really wanted to try the laphing appetizer, a spicy, cold noodle dish. I liked the texture of the noodles. The filling was super hot! I am not sure if chili oil was the only thing inside, but seemed like it was. We also had the stirred fried beef with radish which did have a nice flavor, although some of the meat slices were chewy, but the radish and onions were tender. The chicken lollipops, which were originally ordered dry, came to the table with sauce and were not dry. The owner seemed perturbed with us, asking us if we were sure we ordered it dry. The other main dish came out and the correct chicken dish took a good amount of time to arrive. It was very good. Service was somewhat cold and there were no checks ins. We did feel a little ignored and had to ask for drink refills and the check when someone walked by. We were told the check had to be paid at the bar if it wasn't cash (it was never brought to our table) but when going to pay, no one was at the bar. Little confusing. I did not look carefully enough at the check to see if the automatic 18% tip was charged as other reviews pointed out. I saw no signs or anything at all on the menu that indicatred this.We left a generous cash tip. Cozy atmosphere and the restroom was relatively clean. Not looking to return.

Oh heck yes. best momos in all of Queens. really good authentic flavors and incredible spices. i totally recommend coming here no frills cash only and very hospitable. top tier quality while very cheap affordable prices compared to the rest of the area. it's lowkey upstairs in a doorway on the second floor. there's another bigger one across the street but this is the first real one so go here 10/10 A+ i'll always come back here to fulfill my momo cravings

Located above a watch repair store, you'll find some of the best Tibetan momo in town. Phayul makes momo fresh in-house - we opted for the steamed beef momo topped off with chili oil and hot sauce during this visit. Each order takes 15 minutes and it's $9 for 8 momo. Freshly steamed, juicy and flavorful fillings, and quality dough. These are Tibetan momo, so there's an emphasis on meatier fillings. The kitchen's a little open concept, so you can see the momo (and other foods) being made. This spot is a go-to for Tibetan cuisine lovers looking for a cozy dining experience. They also have a second, more spacious location right across the street!

This is only my second time trying a Tibetan place in Jackson Heights. I got the pan fried beef momos and beef with laphing. The beef with laphing was a bit spicy, which I wasn't expecting, but it tasted really good. I usually can't really handle spice but it was a good level of spice and gave the dish some flavor. I loved the pan fried beef momos. Something to note is they have fried momos (deep fried) and pan fried momos. My friend got the deep fried momos and I got the pan fried. I tried both and ended up liking the pan fried more since it was very juicy inside. The servers were extremely kind and patiently explained items on the menu to us. They also leave a bottle of water at every table so we can refill our water glasses ourselves. The interior of the restaurant is so beautiful! It was so nicely decorated and the ceiling and walls were so extravagant.

My friend brought me to try this place and I was not disappointed. This place is a small mom and pop shop tucked away in a building. The space is pretty small and can get pretty busy. I tried the vegetable momos and the vegetable thenthuk and they were sooo good. They tasted even better with the chili oil--which was actually spicy. We got the vegetable momos steamed and they came out piping hot. They were also pretty large and super filling. The thenthuk was hot, refreshing and the hand pulled noodles were chewy. 10/10 experience, would love to try the other items on their menu.

Didn't know there were 2 locations and first saw the sign for the 2nd F one (we only saw the newer location across the street when we exited). Not a good first impression going upstairs, with the carpeted steps. Small place, no fuss, 5 tables. Can see the kitchen from dining area so the place got pretty warm. Was cooler at the table near the door. Food was good. Pan fried momos had crispy bottoms but soupy filling. Asked for a little spice in the spicy pork but tasted mild; tasty pieces of pork bellies though. Liked the egg fried rice - different rice grain, but too simple for the price. Mango lassi is not as thick consistency as I've had before. 3.5 stars. Will try the other location next time.

Their momos, lhasa, and butter tea were so tasty I want to come back here again! They were pretty busy when we entered, but the servers seated us right away. The interior of the restaurant is nice but I think it would be difficult to bring large parties here. I likes their beef momos more than the vegetable ones but both were really yummy. The lhasa was also so tasty. It is on the spicier side, but it went perfect with the butter tea. I definitely would come back here and try more of their dishes!

I've never had Tibetan food before and I loved this spot. My husband and I shared: - Fried Beef Momo - Vegetable Momo - Shogo Khasta - Lhasa Fried Noodle (Pork) - Regular Laphing I really enjoyed everything. I'm not sure if I could pick a favorite because it was all new and different. I will warn you that some of it was pretty spicy. The Laphing in particular really had me sweating. The menu was huge and I would love to come back and try more of it.

Phayul is one of my go-to spot, offering delightful comfort Tibetan food. Love most of their food options, especially their phingsha. While the laphing is just okay here, the mains truly stand out. Restaurant environment is nice with good service. Definitely recommend for Tibetan dishes

Where do we begin..... Upon entering, our party was struggling to find anyone to help us. When the lady checked us in she verified our vaccination cards and was told to wait inside for a table to be ready. Then the other server told us to wait outside so we were confused on where to go. Upon sitting down we were handed menus and knew we wanted to try the famous veggie and beef momos. Initially we wanted to order a steamed veggie momo and a fried beef momo. But due to miscommunication only one order of the fried veggie momo came. However, we waited over 10 minutes to try and flag someone down to take our order. Then we waited another 15 to 20 mins for our food to arrive. In this time we were not offered any water or drinks, and felt ignored by the staff. We also picked up that the staff seemed annoyed and dismissive and we didn't want to bother them more. The fried veggie momo was 5 stars but the service really off put us from enjoying the food. The momo itself came piping hot and perfectly crispy. Not too oily and had a creamy potato vegetable filling. Additionally the sauces that came with the momos were spicy and delicious. Would recommend mixing all the sauces together with the pickled vegetables. We acknowledge that this location was under staffed and the summer heat could make people more irritable. However, many other tables seemed to be expierncing a similar treatment from the staff. So much so that one table left after before they got to order.

It was our first time trying tibetan food. Don't be scared by the old staircase that leads you to this small mom and pop shop. Their beef pan seared momos are juicy and flavorful (they also sell frozen ones to go). We also tried laphing for the first time. It tasted like jelly in a spicy sauce. Not bad but also not great in my opinion. We also tried the tsak sha la kor hot. It is basically beef with radish soup with tibetan herbs. It was light and somewhat refreshing but we would have loved if there was glass noodles in this and perhaps try the shoko phing sha next time. We would come back to try their other dishes and have the beef momos again. Service was okay, please be kind as she is only 1 person taking all the orders and refilling all the sauces when she is not taking or packing orders.

Lots of flavorful dishes here. Everything was reasonably spiced and filling. I forget if they accept card or not. But they had outdoor dining which was delightful in the middle of the pandemic. Cool spot, inexpensive food, good service.

Another stop on my first Jackson Heights food tour. This Nepalese spot offers Nepali foot,…read moreBhutanese food, Tibetan food, and Indian food. The food types are similar but offer different spice/flavor profiles. They have a large section of noodles, soup, and rice. A veggie section with various combos of cauliflower, potatoes, onion, bamboo, blackened peas, mustard greens, and spices. Some of the Indian dishes: paneer butter masala, palak paneer, chicken tikka masala. Some of the appetizers include crispy tofu, fried soybeans, a Nepali snack platter with marinated meat, goat, beef tripe, sliced beef tongue, fried jerky, duck. They also have a momo section. We had their famous chicken lollipops (essentially fried chicken) and it was crispy and spicy (in a good way). We also had sadeko (marinated or tossed) bacon, which was rich and tender. I had one of their Nepali cocktails, which was pleasantly spicy (the chatpata aam, made with tequila, spicy chatpatey syrup, and mango puree). Service was attentive. Inside is cozy, lots of dark wood and colorful flags. They also often have entertainment in the evening, so I would love to return to hear some live music while trying more Nepali cuisine.

A bit overrated and overshadowed by the nice ambiance…read more I may be biased since I've been to Nepal twice and my palate consisted of dal bhat every single day I was there (momos were a luxury on the trek)--which in no way makes me an expert, but the taste and portions were pretty consistently similar among most places. The first time that I came here was about 3 years ago with a few friends and we liked the food - the beef tongue was different and super memorable and the jhol momos were just swimming in flavorful curry. Made me want to come back again. Fast-forward three years later, I feel like things have changed significantly. Or maybe I didn't catch them at their best, but I came with another group of friends and I just felt overall disappointed with the food, as did my friends who were excited to try Himalayan food for the first time. I had the goat dhat bhat and the small amount of meat served in aesthetically pleasing bowls to mask the portion was disappointing--and this was not a lunch special or anything. I mainly got a big bone and realistically got about 2-3 small bites of actual meat, while there was an overwhelming amount of rice and veggies. The momos also tasted like they were pre-made and heated or steamed up again because the dough was definitely a little rough. Overall, this experience was a meh for me. I think it is a social staple for many Nepalese and Tibetans in the area, and just for that.

I've walked past this place a few times and was intrigued so I decided to give it a try…read more It has a beautiful, well decorated interior and was kept warm and cozy on a snowy day. They provide complimentary popcorn, which is well seasoned and rich with ghee. I was seated in a chair that was very low to the ground. While outfitted with comfy cushions, I was not sure what the proper was to sit on this chair was and I was too embarrassed to ask. My best guess is that it's meant to be a criss cross applesauce type situation, but I had on wet snow boots and didn't particularly want to do that. This isn't a complaint, but just something to consider for anyone with mobility concerns who might be considering visiting. There are some normal style chairs in the front of the restaurant that I'm sure I would have been switched to had I requested as such. Anyway, onto the food. I ordered the "Lahana Ko Faarzi Bhoj" which arrived on a large round platter with a variety of different dishes. I am very new to this type of food, and most of it was completely unfamiliar to me, which was very exciting. The grain at the center of this platter is "chiura," a rice product which has been pounded flat and dried. It has a light and crunchy texture, and pairs well with the thinner, wet curries it was served with as it really soaks up the liquid and expands in size. I've never had this before and it was very interesting to try. The platter comes with two bowls of warm curry, one with black eyed peas and maybe some potato and the other was darker with meat which I preferred. Both were rich and deep in flavor, but the darker one (pictured on the right) was so savory and well balanced- definitely my favorite part of the meal. They both have some heat to them, the kind that builds at the back of the palette throughout the meal, but none of this food was excessively spicy. The main plate has a ring of various cold dishes around the edge, all of which were unfamiliar to me so I can't necessarily identify them. My favorites were the pieces of well seasoned dark meat chicken and the deep fried egg in the center, but it also included some pickled elements, some ground meat and a small skewer, which I found to be quite tough. I really enjoyed trying new, interesting food in such a beautiful space. The servers were kind and there are many other items on the menu that I'm interested to try. I feel lucky to have this place nearby.

The location used to be a longstanding Irish pub…read morecalled Grandstand, where a good friend of mine and I used to frequent for the yummiest buffalo wings and shepherd's pie. It was sad to see Grandstand close, but I was elated to see a Nepalese and Himalayan restaurant open in its place since I'm a big fan of the flavors that the cuisine offers. Met up with a friend on a Sunday night. She was already excited by the aesthetics of the exterior of Faarzi and was snapping away. When we opened the door, we were surprised by how pretty the interior was. It was filled with lush, vibrant colors and fun decor that was a tasteful mix of contemporary and rustic, which provided a nice, high-end vibe. It felt authentically Tibetan with a contemporary touch to it. We 'd it! It is the prettiest Nepalese restaurant that I've been to in Queens! Once we sat down, a complimentary basket of popcorn arrived. To my surprise, it was DELICIOUS! It was buttery and just savory enough -- not as crisp as popcorn that's just been popped, but so good that it was addictive! What a nice TREAT!! I couldn't stop reaching for it and according to the sign outdoors, the popcorn has unlimited refills! Now, for the food! We ordered 4 dishes to share: - Bhatti Ko Faarzi Masala Chowmein: Wow, just wow!! The masala spice brought this chow mein to another level! Every mouthful of noodle was al dente and had a balanced bite of a perfect amount of masala spice, ginger, savoriness, and a mild kick of heat. It's on the oilier side, but so flavorful that I kept scooping for more! Can't wait to revisit Faarzi and eat more of this! - Boudhha Ko Faarzi Gheu Momo: We ordered the chicken option. The size of the momos was slightly smaller than the momos I've had before, but they were bursting with flavor! Each bite tasted of cumin, cilantro, garlic, and spices that are very familiar in Nepalese food combined with the fragrant Szechuan peppercorn. The lovely tingling mala flavor from the peppercorns was delicate, but delightful! The momos were delicious, each morsel of meat was wrapped in a thin, chewy skin, which gave it a nice bite even though the chicken filling was on the drier side -- the tomato-based sauce that came with it compensated for it. The sauce was so good, it could literally be eaten with anything. The menu mentioned that 2 sauces would accompany the momos, but only one sauce was paired with them. When we asked, we were informed that the other sauce was the chili crisp hot sauce that I had received earlier when I requested for chili sauce. The momos were definitely a flavor bomb with the tomato-based sauce!. Every bite was heavenly! - Piro Nauni Wings: The wings came, and we couldn't stop ooo'ing about the visual presentation of the dish. There were 2 wings and 2 small drumsticks with a shiny glaze, they were hung on a little contraption that looked similar to how roast meats are hung by the window in Chinese restaurants. It was very cute! The wings were smoky, juicy, slightly sticky and sweet with a good amount of spice that tasted of tandoori. It would be even more fantastic if the skin were crispy. Give the crunchy puffed rice plated on the bottom of the wings a try! It is toasty, crunchy, and delicious and adds a layer of flavor to whatever you decide to add it to. Just delicious! - Jadiyaa Lal Mohan: A juicy, moist, sugary, alcoholic dessert that is not only unique, but fun! There are 4 donut-hole-sized balls of soft, fluffy cake, similar to cake pops, that are soaked in a sugar syrup. Stuck into each cake ball is a shot of whisky in a plastic tube, which you can squeeze to infuse the whisky into the cake however much you like. Since the whisky is quite strong and the shot is generous considering the size of the cake, if you do not like whisky, you may want to try the version without it though it is the whisky that gives the cake flavor. The cake would be much more interesting if it had more of the flavors that Jadiyaa are loved for or maybe if the sugar syrup paired with it was flavored with the spices used to make Jadiyaa. Far a more subdued whisky flavor, give the whisky shot just a pinch and enjoy! We had a great time at Faarzi -- great food, great vibe, good portions, and there was live music towards the end of our meal! Not to mention, we thoroughly enjoyed the Mukhwas style mix of spices and candy bits that were served at the end of the meal! i Can't wait to return to Faarzi to try the Pani Puri, which looked delicious and beautiful!
