Food: 01. $11.50 Mozzarella Marinara Breaded cheese, fried and topped with marinara: The marinara was flavorful but the cheese sticks work lacking just a tad bit. I think a little bit more cheese would do it justice and some Parmesan on top. 02. $16.00 Steamed Clams Eastern littlenecks with garlic butter sauce: This dish was a delight and it was fresh! Came with a lot of clams. 03. $35.00 Rack of Lamb 16 oz tender New Zealand lamb charbroiled and served with mint sauce: OMG I got this medium rare and it was delicious and tender. It wasn't gamy at all. 04. $28.50 Center Filet Cabernet Charbroiled center cut filet mignon topped with melted blue cheese and thick cabernet sauce: Medium rare, super juicy, super tender, very flavorful cut of steak. 05. $33.50 New York Steak: Medium rare, super juicy, super tender, very flavorful and thick! 06. $22.00 Chicken Parmigiana Chicken breast baked with marinara and mozzarella: Tender flavorful cut of chicken and the marinara! Can't complain! Service: Any who I went with a group of my colleague's after the gym. We had a waitress named Bridget or something who was very slow and forgetful, to top it off at the end of the night the bill came out to be $200.00+ and my colleague tipped her about $30.00, she comes back to the table and unprofessional declares a statement/question, "My manager was wondering why you guys tipped less than 15%? Was my service bad etc etc." We didn't want to make a scene so we added another $20.00 on top to make it $50.00 for some excuse my french sh1tty service. The couple next to us clearly was irritated and left after getting a drink, due to probably the same reasons. This review is purely service oriented. Food took a long time... We popped in on a Saturday night around 9:30pm after a spontaneous decision to finally check out this place. We could hear live music from the parking lot and were pleasantly surprised to find an amazingly talented band playing inside: "Breezin". There was plenty of dancing room and we immediately joined in after grabbing a seat and drink at the bar. Everyone was friendly and welcoming and we had a great time. Reminds me of a locals restaurant/bar from my youth in Michigan. We did not get any food but I love that the menu encourages "creative cuisine" -anything on the menu can be made to your liking. This makes sense after meeting the owner, Phil, who was working in the kitchen that night and then introduced himself at the bar. Such a kind and humble restaurateur who is still working hard at 78 years young. He mentioned the business has been struggling the past few years but he has a team of supportive staff and keeps going. Let's support this place-it has a rich history in the community. Cons: nursing facility smell when you walk in, drinks were $14, surprisingly high for this environment, $2 up charge for Tito's, after being asked 'soup or salad' when ordering dinner, noticed on the bill that 2 cups of soup was $13. Even though my blackened salmon Caesar salad was delicious, three hours for dinner is unacceptable. I've heard this restaurant is really good, but they are short staffed and the waitress was so sweet but she had no control over what goes on in the kitchen. I would recommend just not coming back to this restaurant until they recover from Covid and they have a full staff again. And they hire a hostess with manners. read more

I can't believe I have lived in Long Beach all of my life and have not dined here. My 7 hour Pot roast + spaghetti + steamed broccoli was delish. Phil Trani's Restaurant was the best rainy Monday night ever. The host was so friendly on the phone and got us seated at the bar and then the table. The bartender was super friendly and made the most perfect Wrigley Martini and Sidecar. And our waitress Katie was AMAZING. Her mom had worked there for 20 years and now she does. I had very low standards for this place after reading all the bad reviews. My family frequents the J trani's in San Pedro, so we wanted to give this a try. I can agree with the other reviews about the service. It was slow and it was very hard to track her down when she was needed. We got split up into two tables, and the other half of our family finished their meal and dessert before we even received our meals. However, the times that she was around our party of 12, she was helpful and very sweet. My boyfriend ordered the calamari steak, and I ordered the scallops with pasta. I can only attest for these two, because I didn't try my family's dishes. The scallops were perfectly cooked with a great sear and a lot of butter. I still drool thinking about them. The calamari steak was great as well. Don't forget to head to the bar if there's a wait or for after-dinner drinks. They have a live band! read more

I set reservations at 6:00pm on a Thursday night. It took 15mins for someone to come give us water and bread. We finally placed order for appetizers, drinks, and our food 20mins later. We were not served our dinner till 7:45!!! We had to have it boxed up because we are both up before 4am. Two 1/2 people trying to cover big groups of people was just poor planning and mismanagement. The service was good, the food was not! The famous Bolognese pasta was extremely overpriced for sauce, celery and basically no meat. The marinara sauce was pretty much a can of tomato paste and a little water. The bread had very little flavor. The filet mignon tasted like it was reheated. The eggplant parmesan, that person couldn't find the eggplant. And the chicken parmesan, that person couldn't find the breading on the chicken. We have been here two times before and the food was much better than. But this will be our last time because the food was just so overpriced for crap. We ordered the escargot ($14), fried calamari ($12) and fruti di mar (Fresh bay scallops, South American white shrimp and dungeness crab sauteed in garlic butter - $16). The escargot were very good. They were served classically, in the shell - not too many places do that any more: 4 Stars. The calamari was made fresh from a calamari steak vs frozen type rings. You could tell the difference because this version was not rubbery: 4 Stars. The fruti di mar was also very good. It was a plate of garlicky & butter goodness: 4 Stars. Ambiance is Old "Skool": Some of the motif in the bar looks like a TV show rerun from the 70's. The main dining area looks the same: 4 Stars. The waitstaff and clientele are all super friendly. Trish the bartender knows my friend and as all women do, they gang up on the guy in the conversation - LOL!!! BTW you can easily start a conversation w/ anyone at the bar: 4 Stars. I came about a month after my last visit and got to try the Fettuccini Alfredo. I had it topped with Filet Mignon and it was amazing! I liked the Pesto Pasta also, but the sauce in the Alfredo dish was excellent! I tried the Long Island Iced Tea this time and it was good. Been coming here for years--- maybe since 1998 or earlier... Lately the food has been exceptionally good as well as the service. It's a friendly place where they always make you feel welcomed. My favorite is the pot roast salad but even the side salad is good. The dressing are homemade, fresh and delightful. I had a special yesterday, lobster pasta, which was fun for a change. My mom always has the steak sandwich which she loves, and it's hard not to steal one of the large, crisp, home fries off her plate. From my personal experience, all the salads are fantastic and the service is excellent. Over the many years I've seen people get various other dishes and No complaints. There is also a good bar if that's your thing... also they sometimes have live entertainment in the patio. This place on a Tuesday was completely packed, came in at 8 ish with no reservation. The lady made it happen and found us a table. The staff was overwhelmed and practically running. They were prepared in a light garlic butter sauce, which was delectable. 22 oz. Ribeye Steak - Cooked to perfection; medium rare. This was without a doubt, one of THE BEST steaks we have ever had. Let me say that it surpassed one of the top and most popular NYC steakhouses that we had also dined at. Our meals came with our choice of potato and some steamed broccoli and green beans. The party I was with dropped in just before closing on a Wednesday night and had a wonderful experience. Even with it being late we were happily greeted by the hostess and seated after a brief wait. We were seated outside and wait staff was wearing masks as well as face shields. Yet they were friendly and helpful. Our waitress still even had her sense of humor. Dancers beware! That small wooden dance floor you still see in pictures is gone! Replaced by some engineered flooring throughout the bar. I understand they wanted something totally non-slippery for the aging clientele. But they could have kept the small wooden dance floor. Patrons came from 30 miles away for the band and the dancing. You can still step around on the new industrial floor. But you break you ankles and damage your knees if you try to dance. Such a shame! read more
