I am still mad about an equipment theft that occurred at Phillips Auto of Newport Beach (purveyor of high-end sports cars at 1220 West PCH). They offered to sell my original owner 2005 Porsche GT3 back in Nov. 2017. They wanted me to install a new set of Michelin tires instead of the fresh Toyo tires. Ok, $2K there. Then there was another $2K of charges for such miscellaneous things as download of the engine computer. Eventfully they did not sell the car and I took it back. When I got home, I noticed that the high-end Escort remote mount radar detector head unit was missing. This cost me over $1800 to purchase and install (front and rear detectors and laser shifters) and is discretely mounted so it was not immediately apparent that it was missing. I immediately called them, and they profusely apologized and promised to come up with replacement or restitution. Nothing transpired and I called them several times more and each time they apologized and promised to fix this immediately. But to this day, nothing. Do not recommend anyone do business with this untrustworthy place. Lately I've been getting progressively aggravated with scammers. read more

I replaced a minivan that had served my family for 2 decades with a bright, shiny, like-new plug in hybrid. I thought discrimination didn't exist but wow did I just encounter that with this dealership. I went to check out Lexus LC500 because I needed a new car since I sold my Mercedes that I bought a few years ago but when I got there I asked whom I believed was the manager or owner (gray Hair/Caucasian Person) in his 60s that I wanted to test drive the car and he looked at me from Top to bottom and didn't say anything not even greeted me or acknowledged the fact that I was the only one there just went to his room and took forever, didn't even say give me a minute, nothing at all. So I decided to leave the dealership,I felt disrespected I felt like he profiled me for being Hispanic. Next time don't judge a person by how they look cuz those kind of people might have money might be the ones worth investing your time be humble be fair with EVERYONE, have respect CUSTOMER SERVICE 101. I purchased my first Porsche 911 at Phillips Auto about 2 weeks ago. I have nothing but good things to say about this dealership. I looked at a number of Porsches before I came to Phillips and I almost always had bad experiences with unwanted pressure from very uninformed salespeople. I did not experience that at Phillips, so I'm glad that I was referred to them by a friend. Josh was the salesperson I worked with. He was quite knowledgeable about cars and was easy to work with. The team at Phillips encouraged an independent PPI and made it simple for me to schedule the inspection at a shop of my choice. Once that was done, the rest was really quite painless. They even helped me address some very minor concerns with the car that showed up on the PPI. I'm happy with the Porsche that I got. I feel like the price was fair. There were no surprises with my car and it's just about everything I expected it to be. When I'm ready for my next Porsche, I will definitely check with Phillips Auto! read more

It has been a year since I purchased my car from Phillips Auto. This positive review is overdue. The wonderful person who helped me is Mike Aziz. I live in the Bay Area and they have the car that I wanted, down in So Cal. All communication / negotiation was done with text, call or email. Mike was very responsive and a great communicator. He was quite transparent and I don't feel pressured in buying from him. They are like a regular dealership with plenty of really nice cars to choose from and very professional. They took my trade in without any issues. This was my 1st time driving this far to buy a car. Mike and his team made me feel welcomed and made this big purchase a lot easier to handle. I bought a 911 C4S in the last week of May of this year. On my drive home i stopped to put gas in my car and i noticed that the tank was refusing to take the gas and it was spilling the gas out. Upon contacting Phillips auto, it took them 2 weeks to take my car in and organize a check up on it. On my way down to Newport, a check engine light went on. When i got to the shop, I was promised by a sales rep that car will be sorted, and that it will be put through Smog Check as that was missing on it as well. Weeks went by and I haven't heard anything about my car until one day they call me and tell me that the car has issue with Evap Escape Valves and that the repair will be "several thousands of dollars" ( no exact amount was disclosed). They offered to either buy my car back or to cover a portion of repair. I agreed to pay a $1000 for the repair as I really liked the car and I also needed it to be fixed asap as it is my daily driver. Upon receiving a car back from repair, I was asked to pay $1000 without being issued either a transaction receipt or a detailed work order receipt for the job that has been done on the car. Also, I was told that they had no time to put my car through smog check and that once I do it they will reimburse me. As i was in the rush, i took the car but i was promised that those documents will be sent over. A week later as i took the car to get smog checked, another check engine light comes on which made car fail the smog check. It also showed that Catalyst wasn't ready, due to a recent reset. I decided to take the car to the shop near me this time to see what is the check engine light on for and they tell me that diagnostics says there's still an EVAP leak. In the world of angry and impatient customers, i tried to be the understanding one. I understand that issues happen and I am wiling to be patient so I call the dealership back and explain them what happened. They tell me to bring the car back and they promise to me that this time it will be fixed and that the car will be smog checked. More than a week goes by again and I get the car back. Smog check hasn't been done as the system has been reset and the car has to go through the cycles before it's able to get checked. Also, while it was in the service, my front right wheel cap got damaged and the Porsche crest was missing on it. I get promised new wheel cap, all service documents and reimbursement for smog check again and as I am trying to be extremely understandable i drive off, believing in what i was promised. Couple of days into driving the car i start hearing the noise coming from the front right wheel, which was the wheel that was being removed 3 times in order to service and repair the gas tank and Evap Escape Valves. This time when i called and asked for help, I was being ignored for about a week so i decided to take the car to the local shop instead of waisting my time and driving all the way down to Newport as the metal noise was becoming louder and louder. What the other shop found out was that when they were putting back the front differential, something was not done properly and I am now stuck with "several thousands of dollars" of damage on my car caused by Phillips Auto and their non qualified mechanics. And since my issue and my phone calls and attempts to contact them have been put off and ignored I have no choice left but to turn to Social Media for help. This dealership has millions in inventory yet they can't afford to properly fix a small issue such is evap leak that they are responsible for and they choose to ignore their customers instead of providing high level customer support that will suit the brand they're pretending to be. It's been 3 months since buying a car and I barely had a chance to drive it more than few weeks all because of an issue that should've been discovered on their safety inspection and smog check. Also, the recon manager George have told me that the dealership knew about the tank issue but they never brought that up to me when i was buying the car. Phillips Auto please fix my car!!! read more

I bought recently bought a car from Phillips Auto and the overall experience was mixed. Phillips offers a fantastic selection of luxury vehicles from sports cars to SUVs and all the leather-upholstered and wood-trimmed sedans in-between. I was in the market for a particular sedan with low-mileage and found it on their website in the color that I want. I called ahead for a last-minute appointment and was off to meet the sales representative. When I arrived, the sales representative I spoke to was very courteous, friendly, and professional. The car presented just as well as described on their website. the inspection and test-drive was without issue. The negotiation was straightforward and the sales transaction was swift. Those are all the good parts which deserved a 3-4 star rating. Now onto the other areas that could be improved. 1. Do some homework about the car (2-stars): The sales representative did not know the vehicle (e.g., did not know how to adjust the side mirrors) nor did not appear to make any attempt to learn its features despite calling ahead and giving a 1.5 hour lead start before arriving. Good thing I knew a bit about the car I wanted. And the rep was upfront about not knowing anything about the car. Speaking of which... 2. Be upfront: The car only came with one key. And if you know luxury cars you also know that keys are a pain to replace because of special electronic programming and cutting. Replacement keys can easily cost a few hundred dollars. So I had asked prior to the sale if the car came with 2 keys and the rep said he would check. It wasn't until after the sale when he handed me a single key and confirmed that they had no other. He brushed the issue aside and suggested I buy a used key from eBay to have re-programmed at a much cheaper cost. Since the time of the purchase, I did investigate the used-key route and discovered it was hit-or-miss and just not worth the potential money saved. One gesture of goodwill that could have made this a non-issue is to pay for the cost of the second key despite not being upfront about it missing during the sale. 3. Online presence but does not work online: They have a decent website which suggests that they understand how the internet can influence their business. Their business cards also has the email address of the staff which suggests that they communicate over email. So I sent an email asking for information about a vehicle service agreement (i.e. potential sale opportunity) and have not heard back. This business still operates on brick-and-mortar principles which is painful for those that want to avoid phone-tag for basic information. As for those that gave low-ratings about the sale or of the quality of the vehicle, the burden is on the customer to inspect and determine the value. You take your chances with the upside of getting a great car at the price you want. The downside is missing severe mechanical/technical issues. If you want to avoid the risk, buy a certified pre-owned vehicle from a dealership instead. So would I buy from them again? Not sure... let's see if they ever get back to my email. read more

I can say that this place does choose its cars nicely. They have some of the best qualities I have seen around the country hence the 3 stars. However... I came in to check a car I liked that was just price dropped to $57k. Chris was assigned to assist me. He took me on a nice test drive and was friendly about it. Everything went well until we talked about price. The price was originally 60k and was just dropped the day before. When I engaged about the price, I told him if price can be negotiated and he said yes. To skip the minute details in respect of the company, the problem began when I stated that the car is $57k, can we drop a little bit? I was ready to push the yes button when Chris came back and said no, the car is at 60k... He went back to the office and came back to confirm that the price did not push thru, but that the car is indeed at 60k from 57k. He asked if I could meet at midpoint. I told him no. It's been almost a week since, and I confirmed twice now, the car is still at $57k and on a website, it says it was dropped from 60k to 57k. I am left with a bad aftertaste and kind of offended that such sales tactic was used on me. I was ready to pull the trigger if they were willing to negotiate just a little as I know the car's quality is superb. read more

I bought a BMW M5 from Phillips Auto after visiting their dealership on a few occasions. They are highly visible in a great location on Pacific Coast Highway so it is so tempting to drop in, as they stage several of their vehicles out front and you can see quite a bit of their inventory given the glass windows and wide real estate lot. Their staff was definitely knowledgeable and professional. The sales process was quite efficient and I didn't experience any games or non-sense. I think they have a very nice selection of vehicles, often with a performance focus, but also broad enough for most luxury buyers. Car dealerships, particularly pre-owned, come and go, so I think it says something that they have been around for a while, and that PCH rent has got to be steep. I felt I got a solid deal on a nicely kept car. Very pleased overall. read more

I waited with my review for about two month now after I purchased my S-class from Phillips auto and now here I am telling you about my experience and hopefully it'll be beneficial for you as well. I did window shopping for about a month and a half, called many places, visited many places and even if the desired vehicle was something I would be interested in I passed it and just cause of the customer service which didn't meat any basic requirements. It is important to mention that I am living in San Francisco and of course purchasing a vehicle from somewhere nearby dealership would be the best but unfortunately/luckily didn't happen. I found Phillips from online, did tons of background search for these guys and didn't find anything that would raise attention for me. I called them and asked about the car, and I was seriously impressed with their service quality and professionalism. They were not even a bit pushy or demanding. Mike was the person who dealt with me and all the paperwork got done within hours (without me even seeing the car). I flew there and from courtesy they sent a driver to pick me up and brought me to the dealership. The car was absolutely beautiful; no hidden damages (like most dealership do - shame on these guys), no extra mileage no nothing, the car was like brand new. Two months in and after 3000 miles the car does not have even a single problem that I should complain about. All in all, I would not strongly, but I insist you to look at their inventory and find your next reliable and host vehicle. Purchasing a new car is not only about having a car the way you expect it to be, but also customer service and the experience of buying a car to be as professional as it is at Phillips Auto. Contrary to the reviews that are openly visible for this dealership, I was pleasantly surprised by my experience. I couldn't make it during normal operating hours, due to time constraints with my own work hours, so Mike (one of the sales guys here) was very accommodating and kept the place open for me to stop by to check out, and to test drive the vehicle I was interested in purchasing. Unfortunately, I didn't get to walk away with the car I went there for, but Mike was very straight up with me. My biggest pet peeve is when Sales "Hyena's" at larger dealerships try to hound you for every penny they can possibly squeeze out of you along with giving you an endless list of excuses of why they can or can't do something, but Mike was very real and very straight forward. I had a price in mind, and he was honest about not being able to meet me at my price and it was that. Mike was a stand-up guy and very personable in my opinion, and I absolutely did not feel pressured at any time during our conversation. I didn't feel like I was getting the run around of excuses from him, and I didn't feel like he was hiding anything about the car, price, etc. SO, if you're in the market for a high-end vehicle, I think these guys are worth considering, as they have a wide variety of cars on their lot. But, like any sensible person should do, definitely do your own research about the vehicle you're interested PRIOR to dropping by Phillip's Auto, or to ANY dealership for that matter, so you know exactly what to look for, and what to ask for. read more

After 3 years of idle yelping, I'm coming out of the wood works to write a review! I had a fantastic experience selling my car to Chris Falconi at Phillips Auto. With the current pandemic situation, crazy work schedule, and a newborn baby, I appreciated the extra effort from Chris to make the transfer as smooth as possible. With everything going on, I had 6k+ miles on a lease with 2 months left and unlikely to add any more miles at all. Chris came to my house paperwork in hand, and did a quick inspection. The car battery had died from not driving it enough, and the fuel tank was almost empty. I jumped the battery, then he drove the car to a local gas station on my behalf to fill up, and we finished the paperwork in no time. I got rid of my lease for a fair price, avoided a trip to the dealership, and recovered some money all at the same time! YMMV based on FMV and car condition, but I've had a very positive experience. read more

There was no hard feelings and I left with Chris apologizing for not be able to make the deal work We talked later that day on the phone and ended up working a deal. I tried working with the "big"new car dealership that leased me the car- "big" mistake, they offered me nothing for the equity in the car, and refused to give me credit toward the purchase of a new One, and other "big" used car dealers were not able to help me work with the lender. At Phillips, Michael Alibrando was able to accomplish things that other dealers were unable or unwilling to do- smoothly handle all the paperwork and give me a fair price for the car. They might not be the biggest dealership in town, but for my money, they're the best. read more

Bought an awesome 911 Turbo and very happy with the car, but 2 issues so far; 1 they resolved and the other not yet. The un-resolved issue is that I bought the car with 42k miles, and a service light just came on at 44k miles. The Porsche service center where I live, discovered the standard 40k mile service was never done. Since it's a $100k car, I figured Phillips Auto had confirmed all scheduled maintenance was done before selling it. I asked Phillips to split the $2200, 40k service with me; since I should have had a pre-buy done, but had false confidence in them. This is supported by me buying $500k worth of cars from them over the years, with no issue whatsoever before. I feel my request is fair, but they're not responding to me. I'll post another review soon based on how they handle this issue; I certainly hope I'm able to post a five-star review soon!?! 7/14/18 Received a check from Phillips Auto for half of the service that was done. read more

I have never in my years left a yelp review until now. First of all, I share a love of cars with my wife and kids, and collect them as well. I'm arriving in town for a car auction and they happened to have two of the vehicles I am interested in. I currently have two Ferrari vehicles for the idiots from Phillips reading this, a 1992 512TR with 12k on it and a 1987 328 GTS which just finished a restoration. From that era I was looking to add two of the vehicles they had on their showroom floor. After breakfast and doing some shopping with my family we decided to take a look at the two cars they have. We were nicely greeted at the door by a younger salesman, and upon walking inside I see the second vehicle we were looking for. Being with my wife and kids we walked in and worked our way over to it in the showroom before being condescendingly greeted by some over tanned idiot who told me and my family to not touch the cars because they are very delicate. In short, know who is walking in your door before you belittle your customer. And I bet the picture below must bug you having my son in my car huh? Seeing as how "delicate" they are. **This is an updated review from a year ago** Took my RS7 for a check up after driving it for a year and found that there was a LOT of work to be done. Some of it from normal wear and tear but some existing from earlier years. When customers are sold the extended warranty here, they are assured peace of mind and that the warranty company, Veritas, will be hassle free and easy going. Well that wasn't the case. At first they denied just about every claim submitted by the shop (claims that should have been covered). I took the RS7 to Pacific German, a very well known and respected Audi shop. The guys at Pacific German went over my warranty and told me exactly what should be covered. I was without the car for a month making phone calls to Veritas only to be told someone will contact you the next day. There were no calls, and a majority of the work was denied. They sent an inspector with little to no knowledge of European cars to audit the claims. He was in and out in 15 minutes. This company doesn't even know what TTY (torque to yield) is. This was the worst experience ever. This is not the first time Pacific German has had to deal with Veritas. I'm told veritas is always denying claims and have been extremely unpleasant to work with in the past. Pacific German no long accepts Veritas after my situation. I had this dealership rated at 5 stars, but because of this horrible experience, it makes me question the validity of all the other plans they offer as well. It's thousands of dollars in warranty and protection plans that do not protect. They're salesman, and they are very good at it read more
