This is the first time my fiancé and I had pizza from this place as Friday's are family pizza night. I'm sad to say we should have stuck with our regular pizza place which is Waterloo pizza at Exxon near the Columbia mall. The deal was good but I'm all about a NY style pizza the sauce tasted like a very generic canned pizza sauce which was kind of disappointing, but the wings were really good other than that it was just mediocre at best with the pizza. This is the worst place. They gave me broth soup rather than MD crap one night. Then i tried giving them another shot. They said they didn't have kids pizza but could give me a single adult size. I mean, how lazy could I have been ordering some dude who is probably an ex con and driving his 1991 Hyundai Excel to deliver my yumminess when all I had to do was walk out my front door and take 14 steps! Plus the wasted tip money! This is a recession!! How ignorant I am! I need to be whipped with a 6 foot long cherry flavored twizzler! So back to the place. It is actually a pretty big size carryout type restuarant located on the corner of connecting streets-extremely plenty of parking and it stands alone with no gas station nearby, atm, liqour store, or some laundrymat. It has about 7-8 small tables but it looks like they do 99% of their business via delivery. Place and staff looked decent enough and I was hawking the dude making my pizza and he was moving at a slow, meticulous pace, which is GREAT, cus he was taking his time making sure the toppings were placed correctly which leads into..... The pizza. It is a medium thickness type crust that becomes thinner towards the center, has a great chewiness and dough flavor, and has a really good breadstick texture type crust-not crispy or hard, but chewy with a small bit of crunch. It's done well and u can tase a small amt of sweetness in the dough which was good. But what ets this palce apart are the toppings- they overload them and they do it the right way, meaning it is not crazily thrown on like some crack addict, weed toking, highscool dropout employee that you see working Papa Johns or Dominos. Ever had a slice of pepperoni and one slice has 4,197 slices of pepperoni and another slice has 2? Then u wanna beat the crap outta your friend for grabbing the better slice? I will kill you muthaf#KKa!!! Gimme that slice B#itch!! Not this place, every time I ordered a pizza, each slice was like uniformed- maybe they have some autistic kid making the pizzas and paying him 14 cents (cus they won't know!) but whoever it is I can see with a weight measure, a ruler, and a computer program to assist in strategically placing the right amount on each slice. Plus, the toppings are really top quality- well as top as you can get for a delivery place. Meaning you won't get sliced italian sausages, but will get those crazy steroid tumor looking shapes of molded sausage that are sodium preservative filled, but oh so good. But it seems to be of better quality than most places. AND, they take the extra step. I order the meatlovers alot (This sh#t be banging yo!) and they put half the meat UNDER the cheese and the other half on top cus some meats cook differently, and it is this little attn to detail that what makes me notice and it def makes the pizza cook perfectly. They have a lot of specials so price ain't nuttin' but a thang-its cheap. I find it funny how growing up, a Pizza Hut Pan Pizza was like the Holy Grail where when my dad took me, I thought he got a rasie at work, or soime booty from my mom the night before. Well, there is a Pizza Hut right across the street from this place and the Hut runs those $10 any pizza deals all the time (which is actually a great price for pizza hut), but it looks like the locals don't care paying a cupla dollars more for a pie that is larger, more topping packed, and with better ingredients. I like this place, I truly do; however, I don't understand why they don't offer online ordering. It's 2016 people, get with the program. Foodies don't phone in orders anymore! Everything I've ordered from here has been good -- not great, but good, tasty even. No major complaints about the food at all. My major concern though -- I've been overcharged by at least $2 twice (hence the three star rating). I caught it and the correction was made, but what if I hadn't caught it? We've ordered twice from them and were very pleased both times. My husband ordered over the phone and both times the person on the other end repeated the order to confirm they understood. Food was delivered promptly by friendly drivers. Both orders came out exactly how we expected--delicious and hot. Servings were large enough to last more than one meal. I got a chicken cheesesteak and he got a regular cheesesteak. Fries weren't soggy and were cooked perfectly. I found the menu flyer on my door when I got home from work. So I decided to give Philly's Best a try. so, that makes me a brand new customer. The restaurant is located on the east side of Columbia and I'm on the west side. The distance was a concern but I did get my pizza within about an hour and five minutes though he said 45 minutes on the phone. Not a big deal since I live further out. The driver was amicable, very nice and the order was correct. Two extra large pizzas with steak, ground beef, tomatoes, onions and mushrooms - an overstuffed Philly cheesesteak sub w/ salt & pepper added, and a 20 ounce Diet Coke. Aw man! I could not wait to dig in! I read the reviews on their pizza and subs were awesome so, I KNEW this would be low risk for me. Unfortunately, I was wrong. :( Here are my cons: - Wierd underlying smell: The pizza AND the sub has this... foreign scent that I can't put my finger on. Some scents are OK but this one is... not quite appetizing to me. Does the oven need to be cleaned? I don't know. Unfortunately, the scent is more overwhelming than the actual expected scent from a pizza, if that makes any sense. - Bland taste: never in all my days have I eaten a pizza that is just bland. In order for me to feel like I ate something, I had to sprinkle Caribbean jerk seasoning and salt on it to try to bring out the flavors. No kidding I'm serious. This is for both the pizza and the sub. The sub seems like it didn't have any cheese in it at all. There needs to be a balance between cheese and meat so, that the flavor is right. Wielding the name from Philly is not a good thing, if you can't come correct. Just sayin'. The Philly cheesesteak sub was the first thing I attacked and after devouring it, because I was so hungry, I did not feel satiated at all! While eating it, I was trying to find the flavors to enjoy it but, never had the "eyes roll back to my head" experience like I do with any other Philly cheesesteak. Aaaand, this is after sprinkling salt on to the meat of the sub! Wait, WAIT, WAIT! This review is not giving any justice to my experience. Let me give you an analogy: It's like going out with this hot babe and when you lean in for the kiss, the anticipated kiss, her cell phone goes off, she answers it and leaves your dumb ass standing there like an idiot. Looking at her fine ass walk away. And then it starts to rain and you have no hoodie or umbrella. You feel me now? Do...do you understand me? Pros: - Friendly and professional demeanor from the driver and delivery time was acceptable. - This pizza place has potential because the ingredients that were used were great (Real slices of tomato, onions and mushroom). They just need to concoct a "seasoning blend" that brings out the flavor of the main ingredients or maybe drop in some minced garlic into the sauce. Ensure that the ground beef has seasoning in it so, that when it's spread on the pizza there's flavor. Do something! So, my conclusion is for now, I do not recommend Philly's Best pizza and subs until they can integrate flavor in their product and address the underlying smell. Sorry guys I just can't do it. I wanna believe ...but... (sigh) P.S. I have lived in Columbia for 20+ years. Trying to find good food in Columbia is hard to do. You have to go outside of Columbia into the cities like Bethesda, Rockville, Silver Spring, DC or even Baltimore to get good eats. Hope that helps. read more

This restaurant is not one you go to for their excellent customer service, nor is it the kind of place you can expect wonderful seafood, wraps, or desserts. But for anyone who doesn't know the true taste of a Philly cheesesteak...I can see where they would say it was ok too. But we ordered delivery and the food was cold. It was too late to call & have them remake everything and re-deliver so we heated everything up ourselves. Maybe it would have been better but the food is average in my opinion. Their delivery has always been fast and accurate (with the exception of a missing soda, which the delivery guy went and bought at the gas station across the street and brought it back to me, even though I said it wasn't a big deal. Impressive). The cheesesteaks here are delicious. My boyfriend is from Philly and he likes them (very picky about his cheesesteaks) too. They're always so big I get at least two meals out of them. The fries that come with them however, not always good. Very often limp and greasy. Pizza isn't bad either. It's not competing with NY pizzas by a long shot but not bad. What is really good are their pizza rollies. Basically pizza rolled up, brushed with garlic butter and baked. Omg good. Loaded with cheese and pepperoni, with a nice caramelized cheese layer on the bottom. Grilled chicken salad is good (it has a specific name but I can't remember it) with lots of veggies and a monster portion of well seasoned grilled chicken. I've never been disappointed with it and its always more than I can finish in one meal. All that being said, since I moved out of the area I haven't been in awhile. Happened to be in the area earlier this week and ordered up a cheesesteak with fried onions, sweet peppers and ketchup. I'm happy to report that it was just as good as I remembered it. The best small business pizza shop in Columbia. Tucked off of the main trail on a secondary road. What can I say? The pizza is great, with balanced crust and sauce, plenty of cheese, and ample toppings. I've also had their cheese steaks and their stuffed shells. All were good. The subs here are decent for a "it's late and we don't have time to make dinner carryout/delivery". I wouldn't say 'rave-worthy' but they do stuff them pretty full. The bread often needs crisping in the oven once you get the food. The mozzarella sticks need improvement; they're not flavorful and neither is the marinara sauce. Unfortunately the best thing I've had here has probably been the onion rings... I would recommend them updating the items with some fresh cooking and going on Yelp Eat 24 and speeding up delivery to nearby neighborhoods. read more

Terrible customer service. I should have stuck w delivery. Will never order there again. I ordered a XL Meatlovers Pizza, go in, they give me the pizza, the man tells me to get my 2L out of the refrigerator trying to hold the pizza and the drink. I dropped the pizza. Smh. When I asked the manager if he could make me another. He told me I'd have to pay bc it was my fault that I dropped the pizza in the store. I explained to him that I order from this place at least twice a week. Still refusing I asked for the owners information. He would not give it to me. I was devestated as I had gotten this pizza for my family. Even though he told me no, after ignoring me stand at the register for 10 more mins while he answered calls and acted like I wasn't standing in front of him. Don't even want to give it one star! One bad customer service experience definitely changed my opinion of this place. Placed a delivery order, waited around 1 and a half hour for the pizza to show up and nothing, called the place and the guy who picked up was extremely rude and called his driver stupid for not delivering to our place before the others. I said I didn't want the pizza anymore and for him to cancel the order and the guy ended up hanging up on me. I called again and the guy started telling me that I can't cancel my order and that we can take this to court. That was just crazy to me, I'll never be going there again! read more

Phillies best has now become Phillies worst! I ordered a Gyro special that comes with fries and a can drink and one of their new burritos. I was told my food was going to take about 40 minutes to get to the house. The food arrived about 43 minutes later. All of the food was cold except for the burrito. The Gyro was the worst Gyro I've had in a long time. I called the restaurant to convey my thoughts on the Gyro. I told the Manager that I was disappointed with the Gyro. Have had a mixed bag of experiences with Phillies Best for previous orders but lets get started with the positives.... The cheesesteaks! I love the cheesesteaks here - they are sizeable, juicy & tasty. Problem is when you order, 9x out of 10 you are sent the wrong thing. If you ask for chicken they will send you beef if you ask for beef best believe you are getting chicken?!? This has happend a few times with the Columbia location (The Elkridge location are waaay better at specifically sending exactly what you ask for). So all in all, if you do order cheeseteaks for delivery you just have to cross your fingers and hope for the best. For pizza, you just can't beat this place! It's $8 for an extra-large 1 topping, which is more than enough for a few people. It's my favorite pizza in the area. We normally do pickup and it's always still hot when we get it and it only takes about 15 minutes (even though they might tell you 20). The pizza was good....BUT....initially we got the wrong pizza. I called to ask for the correct pizza to be sent and the heavily accented guy was very rude. He argued with me and yelled at me over the phone. When I asked for his manager he stated he was the manager. The Manager of this place is completely rude. Tried to tell me without even asking his driver if a receipt was given, that I was wrong because the drivers ALWAYS have a copy of the receipt. Then he proceeded to tell me to "Cut the bullshit" and hung up on me. I think they are the worst with customer service and will never go back to them again! I made on order from Philly Pizza and ordered a sub, a pizza, wings Italian, cold cut, and veal Parmesan sub. The pizza was not cook and had that stale hardness to it. Like when you microwave bread and let it sit. The Italian cold cut was mostly baloney, The veal was was over cooked and on stall bread. The was 2 liter not cold, and the wings were not cooked all the way and had the texture of a microwaved item. I ordered online after calling the store and getting no answer. 40 mins later, I called the store to see where my food was. They hadn't even gotten my order. I was put on hold, then spoke to another person, I assume the manager. He told me there had been a problem with the online ordering and my food would be ready as soon as possible. When I tried to get a more specific time frame, he hung up on me. 40 minutes after that, I finally got my food. The pizza I had ordered was crushed to the point the box was ripped and crushed.
