Phil has been working on cars longer than I've been alive and I'm not young anymore. If you're in need of someone who knows their stuff and is an honest actor, then support this small business. He's also good at explaining things to people like me who are very illiterate when it comes to anything about cars. For example, I had an issue with my transmission and while my car was going to be at Phil's over night, I asked if he could add an oil change to my bill. He asked if I wanted "synthetic or conventional." I said "conventional" because to me synthetic is usually subpar! Usually I get synthetic but I usually think of it as usually the more expensive option lol. He laughed and he gave me synthetic after explaining the difference to me. After telling my buddy about my issues, who knows car stuff and telling me how much Phil charged me, he informed that there's not a better price in town. Legit, going into spaces like Phil's can at times be a little on the uncomfortable side but Phil, through his friendliness and great communication, makes it a very positive experience. We have been bringing our vehicles to Phil's for many years now. Phil must be the most honest guy around not to mention the high quality of the work he and his team does. Absolutely fair pricing and work is always done on time. My wife recently backed into my RAV4 and I was convinced the ball joints were damaged. He could have gone ahead and replaced them but after a thorough inspection and test drive he determined they were not damaged and they didn't need repair. It would have been easy to have just agreeed they needed repair but being such an honest person he saved me this costly repair! He did catch the wear on my front brakes, however, which were in fact quite worn. So I booked an appointment to have them fixed which he did for a very reasonable price. If you are interested in fair prices and expert diagnosis then seriously just call now. I recognize that my background is important to the validity of my statements, so I will tell you a little bit about myself. I am from the Desert, La Quinta specifically. I know the toils of the heat on your car. My lucky streak isn't as young as my knowledge of Phils shop. From a very young age I was under the oil pan of my dads 454 2 bolt main big block chevy. This engine is in a boat :). My dad taught me the importance of preventative maintenance. I saw a 1985 Mustang GT go 225k miles on the SAME engine and clutch. Crazy. I also experienced a 2002 F-150 do around 186k with alot of towing of the earlier mentioned boat. We met Phil at church. He is an honest man. He is a man convicted by his faith to make decisions that will fortify his integrity. If these qualitys align with yours, you would be well served to bring your automotive needs to this man's business. read more

Overpriced and won't backup their work. Do the extra legwork, get other quotes and consider other recommendations. I agree with the other reviewers that stated he is cocky which doesn't necessarily mean they can't do the job. I would give zero stars if I could. Worst mechanic shop I have ever been to. I have a 1967 Chevy Nova that needed some work and I was referred to this place by a fellow car club member who had had work done there before and supposedly they were were good with classics. WRONG!! I took the car there because it was blowing oil and it was determined I needed a new engine (got another opinion that was the same) so decided to have the work done here. They did replace the engine and I was very happy with it but they did about $4,000.00 worth of damage in the process!! When they put the oil pan back on they put the wrong bolts in, they broke my transmission which had to be rebuilt, they broke my new dash so no speedometer or odometer, had to send it out to repair, they broke my A/C, had to replace, opened driver and passengers doors into something and put large dings in them (knocked the paint off), and broke my headlight switch. I think the biggest problem was that Phil was never there, he relied on a guy named Kevin who ran the place. Maybe Kevin got a commission because each time I picked up the car something else was broken or damaged. I paid full price each time and was never offered a discount or reimbursement. I reported this joint to The Bureau of Automotive Repair who investigated and said Phil would call me and to this day I haven't heard one word because he knows his shop did wrong! I finally found a real mechanic who repaired everything correctly and didn't overcharge me like this place did. I would never recommend this place - ever read more

Phil has taken care of ALL our cars for more than 15 years. We were referred by another shop that couldn't take care of our Honda's problem. We dropped it off and the next day Phil called - said it was ready - at no chage. Turns out the problem was under a recall. He had one of his guys take it in and have the repair done at factory expense. Years later our Malibu has a power steering problem that eventually led to another recall. He repaired it twice and took it to two dealers to double chick his work. Chevy finally fixed it at their cost and refunded our prior repair bills but Phil did the ethical thing and has done EVERY job right the first time. Wish he was my cardiologist! Don't bring anything here for work and expect him then to actually work on it or call you to tell you that you've wasted your time by bringing it here. The worst customer service I've experienced in years. First off Phil is an overly cocky jerk. Which is fine if he's great at what he does he's not. I called to bring in my boat told him I was coming in and he closed early and didn't return my call, which is trend with this piece of work. Got there it's closed, took my boat home. Brought it back following day and just judging by his smarmy uncaring attitude I should've known to not entrust anything to this guy. Let alone anything worth money. But there I am with my boat and in a time crunch so I Ieave it. I call him back 2 weeks later and he hasn't looked at it. End of story my my boat sat there for the better part of a month and after I called and called and he said he'd get to it never did. I picked it up and he was a complete unapologetic jerk. No explanation no remote pure ass. Save your time go some where with at least a scrap of professionalism and respect for another's time. We all deserve that much. read more

They took me in as soon as I arrived. They immediately diagnosed what was needed. The people were very polite, personable and friendly.
