I've been waiting for a Philz to open in Davis for such a long time now. I'd only be able to get Philz in the bay. Now that it's here, The world is good again! Everyone is super friendly inside, the drinks are perfect as usual (I get a sweet and creamy ecstatic iced coffee), and the interior is very comfortable and spacious. I have yet to try their food items, but I've heard nothing but positive things. Glad Philz is in Davis. The only downside is downtown Davis has so many coffee and tea places now, but they're usually all so crowded. (College town life) Anyway, I'm pretty happy Philz is around! read more

I came to this restaurant because my friends want me to try mint coffee.. and IT WAS REALLY GOOD! I came to this cafe after eating lots of food and thought even a cup of coffee is too much for me, but it was not. It's really refreshing and I could drink a lot even though I was really full. I've always had Phil's coffee beans given to me monthly from a client but have never tried Philz Coffee in store. Today I was working on a clients restaurant in Davis and thought I would give it a try. We were pleasantly greeted by Steven with a cheerful smile. We asked a couple questions and he answered it as well as offered suggestions. We ended up getting an iced ecstatic Philz was and a philtered soul Philz way. When it was ready, Steven made sure we tasted it to see if we liked it first and they were both delicious as he suggested. My bf went on to ask additional questions about how to brew coffee and Steven answered every single one and more! Great coffee (you pick the flavor, creaminess and sweetness levels), however the Ricotta Bowl is overpriced and small - small level scoop of ricotta w nuts, honey and sea salt. Flavor combination is good but the serving size is pitifully small. Get a bagel instead (still pricey but at least you'll feel like you're getting something). read more

Great coffee! Up there with Blue Bottle and other high end boutique quality coffee spots. The set up is pretty great for studying or getting some work done. They're not fast nor overly friendly, so it's kind of the anti Starbucks in that aspect. Actually, sometimes the staff can be mildly rude with their coffee pretentiousness, which I find delightfully entertaining. As long as you know it's coming, it's not a big deal. I have been a Yelp user for many years and I have never been so triggered to write a review. I have experienced poor service, bad service, and terrible service but was never compelled to complain about it online. However, the superb customer service I have experienced today at Philz coffee made me believe that credit is due when it is well deserved. I like to say thank you to the friendly female barista who answered all of my questions and suggested my new favorite drink- Istanbul treat. She even offered to make me a different drink if I didn't like it! And thank you to the kind female employee who offered me a toast when another customer had mistaken my iced tea to be their hot coffee. Also, the male cashier was very friendly. (These are my best descriptions because I never caught their names.) Overall, good vibes and great customer service. The pistachio toast with honey was really good and I can't wait to go back and try their more savory options! read more

This is my absolute favorite place to get a cup off coffee. I recommend the Jacob's Wonderbar if you want a dark roast. I would recommend the greater alarm, Philtered Soul, or Tesora coffee if you want a medium roast. Those are the ones I like best but they have a lot to choose from and I bet the staff make every coffee great. They'll even work with you on your coffee if it isn't perfect as they say. I love their coffee so much I tend to even buy the beans and make it at home because I can't afford to buy coffee everyday. They also have good food options as well. They have burritos, breakfast sandwiches, and pastries, all of them are very tasty. read more

I had a Jacobs wonder-bar which is a dark blend. It was good, but it wasn't strong enough for me. I like my coffee drinks to be strong. The service was good, but I thought it was a bit pricey for what the drink was. My recommendation is not to get your drink iced as it will dilute the drink. I am giving them two stars because they ONLY serve coffee in paper cups UNLESS you bring your own (which i did). I looked around the place and the tables were full of people sitting with "to go" paper cups. Philz, please take a stand and make a company policy change in support of our environment and precious resources. You are contributing to 1000's of paper cups landing in the landfill right here in California EACH DAY. As a California company, I would expect a more progressive approach. And Philz customers, if you are reading this review and agree, please write your own on this issue to encourage change. China is no longer taking our recycling and we have to do better as individuals and a society. read more

Started coming here the minute they opened and it's been my study spot and go to coffee spot every since. I went to my phone to write this review because I was so happy with the service I received today (though it is always awesome). My coffee got cold because I was here for a while and I politely asked if they could heat it up for me. Instead of doing that they made me a brand new cup of coffee right away. I love philz! WiFi is consistently stable, unlike some other Davis coffee shops. This is just one reason why Philz makes studying off-campus enjoyable. Enjoyable music, large space with both big communal tables and separate chair spaces, and lots of college students makes this place a hit. Philz is a charming coffee spot. It's a little loud for studying or meetings. They do offer food items such as breakfast burritos and fancy toast. I find their coffees are stronger than average. I also find that they sweeten their drinks a tad to much for my taste. I recommend asking for light on flavoring if your ordering their popular Mojito. read more

Usually good coffee, but today was horrible service and tasting. Ordered our coffee and waited nearly ten minutes to receive it. In the meantime, our barista spent a few minutes taking someone's order behind us owhen she already had a hard remembering ours. My iced chai tasted like water. She offered to remake it and 5 minutes later served a chai that was even less flavorful than the first one. With no more time to wait, I took my chai and threw it in the trash. i usually love going to philz and most of the time order ahead and receive my drink in a timely fashion. however this afternoon, i have been waiting for 20 + minutes for my drink and still have not received it. it is not a particularly busy afternoon and there are two employees working. one who is doing nothing and the other who is making drinks. i am disappointed with this service and the rude attitudes the employees displayed when asking where my drink was. will not be returning to this location anytime soon. read more

Favorite coffee shop in Davis! Best customer service in the whole area, the staff are always so friendly and give amazing recommendations. The coffee itself is excellent, and despite the simple pourover premise is very customizable! Every staff member who works there is seriously awesome, and with all the different roasts to choose from this place is a coffee drinker's heaven. Oh, and the FOOD is delicious. Checked out this place for the first time after the farmers market. It looked crowded inside so decided to give it a try instead of usual Starbucks. Well I'm sure glad I did! There's a very fun and open atmosphere inside, perfect for a hip college town. There were a lot of different coffee choices and the staff member was happy to help me select a good dark roast option. They mix everything up behind the bar. My iced coffee came in a regular cardboard coffee cup. I asked them about this and they said it's more environmentally friendly. I actually liked drinking my iced coffee this way! Maybe SB should follow suite..! I didn't try the food but it looked healthy and tasty. Will have to stop in again next time I visit Davis. read more
