We stopped at this Philz on the way to Tahoe early in the morning. I got a sausage breakfast burrito and hot chocolate. I've had the breakfast sandwich and various pastries before, which are decent, but the breakfast burrito was not impressive, as I couldn't easily differentiate the ingredients within: it seemed to be one small bundle of something hot and soft that was reminiscent of scrambled eggs. My friend and I went to Philz for the first time today and it topped all our expectations. To start off, the energy of this place was simply amazing, good vibes as soon as we walked through the door. The employee's were so helpful and personable, shout out to Alyssa! She went out of her way to explain how everything worked and gave the best advice on what we should order according to our personal tastes. She did everything with a smile and made sure we loved our drinks before we left (which we absolutely did). This is my favorite place to go to get work done. They have some of the best-iced​ coffee that I have ever tried. My favorite is the Philtered Soul. The downside is that it's a little pricey and I believe they only have size small or large. Their coffee is super caffeinated, even when I get a small I feel the effects of it right away. I love coming here to get work done and stay for a long time because they are one of the very few coffee spots that have unlimited wifi. It can get very packed, but just find a seat somewhere, put your headphones on and you'll have a productive work day! read more

We came here to grab coffee before church because we had heard the hype about the place. We got the mocha Tesora and mint mojito. The Mocha Tesora is good but I wouldnt say that it is life changing. The mojito was okay my bf said that it tastes like "Colgate, but Colgate is a better time." It's a bit too minty for our tastes. First time trying Philz coffee and it was amazing. The process to order and pay for drinks is a little confusing, but the baristas are wicked friendly, personable and knowledgeable. Great place to study or drink coffee with someone. Easy way to order drinks and food. The medium roast blends are incredibly delicious. They never leave coffee sitting and always brew fresh pots for each order. Awesome coffee shop! Always looking to try something new and this place has just that!! The mojito coffee isn't something I would try again but I still enjoyed it. We were road tripping and we found this placed based on past recommendation by a friend, the place is clean, open and modern vibe. Lots of tables and chairs to sit and free WiFi. We had the mocha Tesoro hot and mint mojito, both were delicious, mint mojito was sweet and creamy and had great balance in flavors of coffee and mint. Philz Coffee is my go to spot for strong delicious coffee but it is a hit or miss with different locations. I've come to the Davis location two times so far since it opened and I can say that both times were a hit! The baristas are always super friendly and my coffee always come out extra creamy/frothy (which is the way I like it). I get the philtered soul, extra creamy with vanilla soy and medium sweet. I've been to some Philz locations where the coffee tastes watered down or have a funky after taste. Will be frequently this location more often! read more

Extremely happy that there's a Philz in downtown Davis! It's good to have more options other than Starbucks and Peet's, with the exception of Temple. Philz has more of a variety in flavors which is what I love and it's not too strong for me. This location once again has friendly and helpful employees. I've recently been ordering a half philtered soul and half silken splendor/dancing water with cinnamon. The person who helped me today suggested having the cinnamon on top rather than mixed with the coffee to avoid a cinnamon taste with the drink as a whole. Great recommendation! Cus my drink was sooo good. There's a lot of tables inside and outside and the music isn't too loud. It's clean and the layout of the store is just right. I really like the inside of the store. It is perfectly designed for Davis; there are cool decorations and lots of tables and even pews to sit on and wait for your coffee. They have very interesting coffee and I had some questions and the barista let me smell some of the spices I had questions about. I have heard that there is usually a long wait but ours was not bad at all. It was actually pretty fast. The prices are decent for what they offer. I have been visited this place several times trying to give it a shot to everything on the menu. I was pretty satisfied every time until today. My friend and I ordered drinks from light blends section and we turned out got served with other drinks! I just made sure clearly that I want a large dancing water, which is supposed to be hot, but somehow he looks me in the eye and tell me this is your iced mint mojito. I thought that I misheard for a second so I just took it, but after some serious discussion, we found out that it was not the drink that we want. This has happened to my other friends as well. So I don't know what was wrong with employees in this place. After figuring out the fact, I was way too far from the shop so I couldn't say anything... I have lived in Davis for about three years now. I have been to a majority of coffee shops throughout the town, but I finally decided to give Philz a try this last weekend.... I was entirely blown away by my experience. Not only was the coffee DELICIOUS (I got the Silken Splendor, with creme and sweetened) but as I was enjoying my coffee on their outdoor seating, me being the clutz I am, accidentally spilled it all over their table and window. When I went into ask for a rag to help clean it up, the lady working offered to make me another drink. I've only come here twice (once during the fires fall quarter and another time on the weekend after studying), and it's a good place to study or chill with friends. I definitely loved the pour-over selection. In terms of price, it's pretty toe-to-toe with Starbucks, but the coffee is much better. I've only tried the food here once (the Mediterranean avocado toast), and the prices are slightly cheaper than Starbucks but the food is way better. My first ever trip to Philz: tasty, but a bit pricey. $10 for coffee and a bagel seems steep. However, I enjoyed both (though I preferred the bagel). I think next time I'll avoid the Sumatra -- it was too bitter for my taste. I'll come back for another bagel and maybe get coffee if I'm feeling rich. Side note: love the big couches.
