I was not familiar with Philz Coffee before it came to Long Beach. I later learned that it has quite a following. This is a very unique coffee shop. They do not offer typical drinks or espresso. What they do offer is unique blends that are truly one of a kind and only carried by them. At first I was hesitant as to what to order. The barista was able to suggest some things that I might like. I chose the philharmonic. Delightfully unique and delicious. Smooth and creamy. I don't think I have ever had mint or spices in my coffee before. The last time I went to Philz was in San Francisco and I remember wishing we had one here. I went to Philz on 2nd in Long Beach and talked with friends for two hours. it was lovely. I went to order a coffee and croissant before hitting the road and neither my debit or credit card worked. Jacob said "don't worry about it, I've got you" and I wanted to cry. that's never happened to me before. my meeting was with some people about whether socialism would be better for America and the world and after listening to someone 20 years younger than me I understood why. I used to come to this Philz every single day since it opened. Great coffee, until recently the coffee seems to be made with not as much care. My last visit to Philz I had to wait over 30 minutes and then when I went up to ask if my drinks were almost done, Michael an employee was soo rude and had a major attitude. The service has not been great lately and the coffee isn't as good as it used to be. Sorry to say that Philz has lost a loyal customer. read more

On a recent Saturday morning, I was brought some of the blend titled Jacob's Wunderbar. I was asked if I could detect specific flavors. While it was a nice coffee, I detected no chocolate, smoke or nut flavor. When I asked Bf what his opinion had been, his response was "expensive". I'm interested in going there and having a different Philz selection to test my taste buds. He didn't find the three stations as comfortable as his regular Second Street coffee hangouts. I have experienced PC before, buying some from Lazy Acres recently. Also, heard wonderful things about the PC coffee houses. Tried this one in LB yesterday AM, and I echo many of the comments made under the one and two star reviews. Confusing where to order and once you figure that out there is quite a wait. So...wait to order, wait to receive beverage, wait to pay. 15-20 minutes total wait during a quiet time in the cafe. Did not feel the friendly vibes from the staff, so not very enthusiastic about a return visit. Yet, I most likely will give it another go someday. Have to say that I enjoyed a delicious coffee. One of the best I have ever had (Jacob's Wonderbar). Loved it so much, I took a pound of coffee beans home with me. Best of Luck! read more

Thought I'd give this place a shot given its popularity, but from the moment I walked in, I was confronted with loud pop music and rude staff. I told the barista I had never been there before and she just stared at me, clearly annoyed by my presence. She explained nothing and rushed me along. Then she proceeded to have a long conversation with a friend instead of making my drink. Unfortunately, the cashier wasn't any better and greeted me with a blank stare and no words. The coffee is okay, not great, and nothing compared to actual craft coffee. The staff seem to think they work at some hip independent shop, but this is just another subpar coffee chain. Just when you thought we had enough coffee shops. Well Philz Coffee is not just a coffee shop. The coffee is so so Good I don't Have to ask for an extra shot of anything. It taste like coffee and it is much potent than other coffee shops I have had. I can only do one small cup of coffee because I can literally feel the caffeine in my system. And let's talk about the customer service they actually treat you like a real person/customer . They are polite they don't ignore you while you're standing in line. We asked for suggestions as we've never been before and the gentleman working (will find out his name but he had a curly strawberry blonde bun and glasses) said verbatim "you have eyes you can make a decision--who cares how popular something is." Glad to see another Philz open up! The coffee as at there other locations is great and very unique. Because it is so new however it's almost always crowded. That being said, their mobile app makes it easy to order and the drinks are ready within minutes. If you have never been to a Philz before you have to try their mint mojito. It tastes different from any coffee I've had before and is also very strong for when you need to wake up or get some work done. read more

Coffee is amazing. When the woman work on the wells making drinks it's much faster than the men. The men seems to not care. Like chatting or take 20 minutes on a 10 minute mobile order. The woman are king respectful and that's why they get the $5 tip on 1 cup of coffee unlike the men I literally stiff because of how rude they are. The barista who served us was on something, though; kept getting confused by our questions (having never been there before, myself) and seemed super out of it. I stood in line, for at least five minutes, while the barista continued flirting with a customer. She was completely aware of my wife and I waiting for her attention to shift to us. She casually and conveniently ignored us. Once their conversation ventured into the type of music they liked, we had had enough and walked out. Moments later I called in and explained my frustration to the "manager" who was rude and very unapologetic. She gave me sass and attitude. I love Blue Bottle but Philz is up there as well... they don't serve lattes though which is heartbreaking for me because that's all I really drink. Got to hand it to their servers though who went above and beyond to have made me the closest thing to a latte that they can offer. First time to Philz Coffee in Belmont Shore. Waited 20 minutes for a cup of coffee. Had the medium blend Cup of Heaven....way to strong for me. The Coffee Bean or Polly's Coffee within 1 block of Philz is still much better. I will stick to the other 2 coffee stores with better coffee. read more
