Spacious and cute! I loved this Philz location because of how much work space it has! It's quite busy and can get a little loud, but it was a nice space to get work done. The Philtered Soul has a hazelnut taste which I LOVED , there's something special about the coffee at Philz. There's a lot of seating outside at the Commons, so make sure to stop by and get your coffee fix here! read more

I just recently tried Philz coffee for the first time, and was pleasantly surprised when I could order one of their special coffees, with no added sugar or milk and it was amazing! The staff are super friendly, there is a parking lot and garage near by and tons of great seating options. They can get pretty busy, but just know their coffee is worth it! I love that the environment is pretty calm, even though they are always busy. There is a mixture of people working remotely, meeting up with friends or just stopping by to pick up coffee! read more

Loves to support stores that contribute to fighting food waste. To achieve this, they inspire and empower everyone to save food together through Too Good To Go. Putting up surprise bags filled with delicious pastries/bread that the store has left at the end of the day at a discounted price. For $4.40, I received 2 butter croissants, one chocolate chip cookie, and one cinnamon walnut muffin. Everything was fresh and delicious and it also gets me into trying some of their food items that I can later pair with my daily coffee. It's a win-win! read more

wow I can now understand the feelings how coffee can ruin anyones day and it sure hit me on that. My usual order from other Philz is mint mojito coffee that runs over $6 per Joe and it was quite creamy. The one I ordered here via their app was absolutely trash. The mint mojito tasted so bland that I felt I ordered coffee from McDonalds. They weren't busy and I felt they made it in a rush. This Philz can do better. read more

Love this location! I live near by so I walk here sometimes. It's located along the busy strip on lake in a cute little outdoor patio enclosed by a couple businesses. There is free wifi and plenty of outdoor seating. A great place to get some work done and not miss out on some fantastic weather! The coffee is great. Never have any complaints. I stick within the realm of light roasts. My favorite is dancing water I believe. Great place to get some work done and have a yummy cup of coffee! read more

Super cold in here and bathrooms can use more attention! Besides that, service is good and coffees are so scrumptious. I recently got the honey haze iced coffee and my man got the mint mojito iced coffee! The mint mojito one was light cream and light sweeter and it was so good. I couldn't stop stealing it from him I could've gotten my honey haze light on cream and sugar and I would've loved it just as much. Good little study spot read more

First time in Philz. Walked in, nobody in line. We said hi to the cashier and began to look at the menu. She then left the register. We had moved towards the pastries, and a short line had formed behind us. When the cashier came back, we went to her register and she all but accused us of cutting in line. She was pretty rude the rest of the interaction. I felt I couldn't ask any questions about the menu which was uncomfortable because it was my first time. Didn't call our name when the pastries were ready, just slammed (only slightly exaggerating!) them down on the counter. Didn't heat up the croissant we bought. The drink was good and the other baristas were pleasant. But probably won't be back at least to this location which is a shame because I've always heard good things. read more

TLDR: An excellent handcrafted coffee paired with a rustic, aesthetic interior that encourages you to stay on task. What more could you ask for on the morning grind or evening meeting? Plus the mint on top is how much the store manager cares about customer concerns and how they work alongside their team on the same level. A+ Coffee, A+ Service, A+ Study Spot! Tip: Park in the small, 15-minute time limit parking lot for pickup OR the nearby lot behind Veggie Grill and walk over (free before 10am). This info is on the Yelp page but may be easily glossed over. - - - - - - Note: This is an update to a previously unpleasant experience. Philz Coffee is amazing, and I was ecstatic that there was a location in Pasadena closer to me. Parking was difficult, but David kindly reached out to me after my initially unpleasant experience. I was initially reluctant to return, but I'm glad he reached out to me and restored my love for Philz Coffee. Philz Coffee is especially bussin' and bustlin' during rush hours, but David kindly informed me that it is quieter before 8am and after 3pm. I look forward to visiting during these hours to study or get work done. I ordered my usual mint mojito, and it was AMAZING. I'm not sure what David did to it but it's the best one yet - minty, frothily creamy, and a morning recharge in a cup! He was also super knowledgeable of the "Gratitude" bean that I couldn't find online - a holiday special. Seeing a manager work alongside his baristas was admirable, and I was ecstatic to learn that they can also prepare larger orders for catering. Going to Philz is like going to LAX. They have what you need but you do not ever want to return. Philz, like waiting to board a plane for 20-30 minutes. Btw your drink is wrong when you get in the car. Maybe chalk it up to various experiences here, but I'm positive that this is equal parts cheesy, odd, and corporate. read more

During this time Philz is primarily contactless app order, and pickup, but that doesn't stop the staff from being friendly and helpful. I ordered through the app, and after checking in they informed me I could wait outside and they would call out my order. They were very helpful and kind. As usual the mint mojito is my go-to and it was delicious. Whenever I'm in town I always make sure to grab Philz. read more

The great thing about Philz is every location consistently provides great service along with amazing coffee. This location is great for studying or getting some work done. The ambiance is quiet and cozy. On a nice day, you can sit outside in the commons courtyard. There's also a lemonade in the same plaza, so this is a great remote work option. read more

My favorite coffee chain. Unfortunately, I don't have a Philz close to me and I have to make a 30-minute trek to the nearest location, which is this one. It's definitely worth it in my opinion, though. I always get the iced rosé latte, which is just amazing. It absolutely nails the rose flavor and it's not too overwhelming or too subtle with it. It's perfect! Great coffee, and it's not ridiculously expensive either. The prices aren't too different from Starbucks and the quality far surpasses it. If you've never stopped by a Philz, and you love coffee, I highly encourage you to give it a try. Anything on the menu that sounds enticing to you, try it and I can guarantee you'll love it. I'm not much of a coffee person and usually prefer teas but I love love the iced mint mojito coffee here. It is the perfect sweetness and creaminess. No other coffee shop can match the flavor of their mint coffee. With the pandemic they have safety measures in place. Download the app and place your order. When you arrive they have your order placed in an organized fashion for pickup. They changed their process. They used to ask for your name and the drinks were behind the counter but they have since changed their setup. You can walk in and look for your name to pick up your drink/food, 2 customers at a time in the store. read more

TL;DR Boiling hot and burnt tasting coffee and slow service in a weird setting The quality of Philz coffee is pretty poor, on par with a Starbucks or a Peet's drip coffee. I think this is due in large part to their staffing choices. It seems like teenagers run the place, and the atmosphere feels as if you walked into an angsty 16 year olds bedroom. The kids behind the counter seem preoccupied with talking to each other while they make your coffee, so service is slow. The coffee, when you get it, is boiling hot. You should not serve any coffee that is so hot that it burns your tongue when you take your first sip. The light roast I ordered had none of the fruity flavors I'd expected, just a burnt toast flavor. I remember visiting Philz many years ago in San Francisco and being impressed with the quality of their beans and their coffee. It's sad to see a brand like this in decline, grasping to a "counter culture vibe", while selling out for a quick buck. read more

When I think of Philz Coffee, I think of a consistently satisfy cup of Iced Mint Mojito coffee no matter which location I visit. This location of Philz Coffee was no different. Tucked away in the cute "Commons" area off Lake Ave in Pasadena, there is a comfy intellectual vibe inside the coffee shop as well as outdoor seating in the Commons courtyard area, depending on what you prefer. I opted to get my drink to go. Just like all the Philz locations, you order at the counter area with your barista. I love their Iced Mint Mojito coffee, sweet and creamy. You order here first and then go to the cashier to pay while the barista makes your drink. There is a nice long bench you can sit down at while you wait. My friendly barista was quick so I did not have to wait too long. She was super friendly and informed me that she can change it if I needed adjustments. Fortunately it was already perfect. I love that cup of sweet and creamy Iced Mint Mojito and I can drink this at any time of the day. It was exactly what I needed to get through the night. I took my coffee with me on my stroll up and down Lake Ave and it was the perfect redemption cup of latte I needed, since I had a subpar cup of coffee moments earlier and I just needed a REAL cup of coffee to make up for it. read more

Subpar coffee at best. The vibe was just weird. Made my 84 father-in-law feel awkward for asking, "May I have cream for my drip coffee." It was difficult navigating the congested countertop with the array of pride memorabilia. Guests need room to stir their coffee, pour sugar, etc. I rather go to Dunkin' Donuts. read more

A classic breakfast plate with eggs, bacon, hash browns, and banana bread. The eggs and bacon are fairly average, although the bacon tends to be overcooked and dry. The standout is the hash browns. Title: Absolutely deplorable experience I genuinely don't think I've ever had a worse experience at a coffee shop. From the moment I walked in, the entire experience was unnecessarily frustrating. The service was completely lacking, the attitude was awful, and there was absolutely no sense that anyone cared whether customers were having a good experience. I'm not expecting a red carpet when I order coffee, but basic courtesy and competence really shouldn't be too much to ask. What should have been a simple coffee run turned into an incredibly aggravating experience. The staff made what should have been a straightforward interaction feel like an inconvenience, and the overall atmosphere was just miserable. Philz, you can charge whatever you want for coffee, but when the service is this bad, it makes the product completely irrelevant. I left genuinely annoyed that I had spent my money here. Overall, 4.5/5 I LOVE the coffee here. My favorite is the Tesora blend for the hot coffee, or the Ecstatic ice coffee on hot days. Their coffee is near perfect. The caffeine is strong, flavor is good, and it doenst taste sour or burnt like *another* popular chain coffee store. They also add creme or sugar to whatever perfect likeness that you need it. If you arent sure of which coffee blend you like, the baristas are very knowledgable about coffee recommendations. I just had to dock 0.5 stars because like all Philz locations, you order with the Barista, pay up front, then pick the coffee up with the barista. This can create a lot of confusion and is a slower process that it needs to be, so the lines can get backed up. The place isnt the best to hang out at or study since it is always very crowded and loud, but a lot of hipsters always seem to be "trying" to do work here. read more

Half of my large cup was filled with mint leaves! Wow! I also didn't like that they used a Hot coffee cup for my iced coffee; it was inconvenient trying to cap it so it wouldn't spill or having to stuff a straw in this cup that's made for hot coffee not iced was not easy. Shocking to hear min mojito coffee. Shocking first taste and the price. I didn't now what to do or how to order when I first walked in. It is kind of scary and intimidating since I am not used to how this place works.... and there is no sign leading you anywhere.... I ended up finding street parking, but since it's Pasadena, there are also several public parking structures nearby that charge a small fee, so parking wasn't too much of an issue. There is also seating outside and a parking lot in the back. I got the iced oatmilk latte and it was delicious. They don't charge extra for non-diary milk which I greatly appreciate! There is free WI-FI. The coffee was good but I do wish they had more food and pastry options: like pistachio croissant or coffee cake, bagels and a few breakfast items. I recently had a baby and I'm 20 days postpartum so I require caffeine. I drove to the hut with the intention of ordering something new as I wanted a sweet treat/drink. I normally order a plain latte or cappuccino. That being said, when I got to the window I asked for a menu.. the male barista who was set to take my order said, "fine". When he came back to hand my husband the menu he said with sass, "...this is a COFFEE SHOP." That remark was rude and completely unnecessary. We obviously know that. The decoration and prints plastered on the hut scream coffee- thank you very much. The drink I had was delicious as always, so that was great after such a distasteful experience. I won't be visiting this location again if this is the attitude that will be given moving forward.

The muffin was delicious, but fair warning, it's messy too. Both coffees could have been a little hotter, but mixing with milk will do that. Also be wary of entering and exiting. You might miss the entrance on the way by - like I did. And the curve to get out is less than accommodating as you merge into traffic. 4.8 rounds to 5. A welcome new experience.
