I've been coming to this Philz Coffee for years. Due to the popularity of this coffee (just seen it on the voicemail on Netflix) the lines are usually long here. I used to only come in when I had time. As of late, the service is so quick, even when doing a walk thru. I love that the baristas genuinely want you to like your coffee and will remake it if you don't like it (I never ask). The coffee quality is always good. Since going corporate, Philz Coffee has really gone downhill. What finally prompted this one-star review was the lack of customer service and how badly they handled my mobile order. I scheduled my order for pickup at 7:05 AM and arrived at 7:02 AM, expecting it to be ready around the scheduled time. Instead, they didn't even start making my drink until 7:15 AM. At that point, there was no way I could wait any longer because I was on my way to work. I was offered a refund, but there was no apology, no acknowledgment of the delay, and no sense of urgency whatsoever. The barista just continued making other drinks while mine sat unmade, which gave the impression that those orders were more important than an order that was already 10 minutes past its scheduled pickup time. What's more disappointing is how much this location seems to have lost the culture that used to make Philz special. Their whole philosophy was about "bettering people's day, one cup at a time." That energy is completely missing here. The baristas seem unmotivated, checked out, and almost indifferent to the customer experience. I used to associate Philz with friendly baristas, great customer service, and a genuinely different coffee-shop experience. Philz Coffee is a pretty rad place. The decor is a modern vibe with tables & chairs. There was plenty of outdoor seating. The employees are friendly and were very helpful when my sister needed to use the outdoor restroom. She ordered a large Coffee Rosé. It's a smooth and sweet iced coffee topped with a subtle rose cream. It didn't take too long for her coffee. Her name was called out and they hand us our coffee without a lid. There are lids available right at the hand off if you want one. As far as the bathroom goes... it is located outside the Coffee shop. There are three stalls for the women's bathroom. Every stall was out of toilet paper. Luckily, the men's bathroom was empty and the bathroom key worked for that one, too. So I slipped in real quick and got my sister some toilet paper. My favorite coffee shop all in Sacramento. My family got the tiramisu, caramel coconut, salted butterscotch ice latte. 10/10 for all the drinks. I'm not even exaggerating. It was that good! It was pretty pack, but drinks came out at a decent time. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seatings. Parking can be difficult in this area during busier hours. Staffs were friendly and welcoming. THE BIG: Located in Midtown of downtown Sacramento. This coffee joint is right off of the light rail that passes through. Tall ceilings and plenty of indoor/outdoor space. Few street parking spots available. THE BLACK AND WHITE: Whenever I travel and there's a Philz Coffee around, I always go and seek it out. This was only a twenty minute walk from my hotel and Sacramento is beautiful in the spring. Walking in, the space is big and spacious. The only downside to my experience is that one cashier is working which slows things up, while there were four baristas. It wasn't too busy but my coffee still took around 15 minutes to make and it's just a normal black blend. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall a cup of philtered soul coffee was around $6 and a coffee bag will set you back around $20. I always have a bag of philtered soul in my house if that shows my dedication to Philz. read more

Came to visit for breakfast & coffees thinking it would be an enjoyable Sunday , I was no longer than 15 minutes considering I had to wait in line, try a free sample the cashier offered(She took her time), then order, then wait for my order. Returned to my car to find out I had a parking ticket, so, $40 on two large coffees & two burritos & a $72 parking ticket. $112 in total for this terrible trip just because my wife thought it was a good idea to visit Philz. Unbelievable that even on a Sunday, downtown Sacramento requires a parking meter toll. How else would you be notified of this without going through it personally especially if you haven't visited Downtown Sacramento in years. You can say, just read the signs, but there were no obvious signs of needing to pay the meter, it's SUNDAY, the only way you'd know this is if you go through it, or hear about it, or google it. But if you are just strolling by, you'd be the target of the ticket. It's crazy. I hope this Philz moves to a different location because getting a parking ticket just to stop by for coffee is diabolical. Thumbs down on the experience, never would visit this Philz again. Lemon poppyseed is one of my hon's favorites, so I saved that for him. The chocolate chip cookie was also good even though I prefer mine chunky, this one was still nice and soft, the way I like it. Literally the best coffee shop in town. I'm from Rocklin and I make the drive down to Philz even on my days off to have their coffee. Philz has really grown on me! After years of trying their coffees, I've got some go-tos! I love their iced coffee rose (with oat milk) and the iced honey haze (also oat milk). Those two are so tasty and delicious! I will say I love rose flavored anything, so if you're not into florals, try the honey haze. I usually ask my husband to order online ahead of time because they get swamped. I also get they make their coffee one cup at a time but if you're in a rush, just know there is no sense of urgency in that shop. As far as ambiance goes every brick-and-mortar Philz I've been to has a fun setup. And this Ice Blocks spot is no different. However, this location does get hectic, but everyone who works here is incredibly friendly and immensely accommodating. Just be sure to order ahead of time on their easy-to-use app to save time! I love their coffee but they play the strangest music in there, and they play it LOUD. Makes for a very uncozy environment. I didn't even hear my name being called because I was working and wearing headphones. There was a homeless guy just milling around in there who kept staring at me. I don't have a problem with homeless but if they're going to be staring and bothering the customers maybe they should be removed. Got my usual, iced mint mojito. Decent indoor seating. Outdoor seating is hit or miss the times I've come here. There's often homeless people sitting outside and unfortunately, their scent is really strong and flows through the air and ruins the taste of my coffee. There's also people who haven't bought anything and just sit there when it should be for customers. On this particular visit it was hot and sat inside. The barista taking our order was a bit rude and had some attitude b/c we were asking her questions about a drink recommendation. They ever so lightly called out our name and we weren't even sure it was ours so we had to keep an eye on the counter to spot our drinks.
