Philz Coffee has some fun seasonal drinks. First time at this location and it was a good experience. We parked in a structure next door. There were plenty of spots and it is a short walk. The windows of Philz were decorated with holiday drawings. Upon entering, the space seems small, but cozy. Came here on a Sunday afternoon with a friend and it was pretty busy, but there was no line. I ordered a hot Tiramisu latte with almond milk and my friend ordered an Iced Mint Mojito. We also ordered a Cadamom Squiggle to share and asked for it warmed up. We were not called to pick up our drinks, so not sure when they were ready. We waiting about 5-10 minutes for them. Since there weren't any available seats inside, we sat outside. The Cardamom Squiggle was solid. Good cardamom flavor without being overpowering and the dough was buttery. The Tiramisu latte did not taste like tiramisu. It was an okay coffee drink. It tasted more like milk with a side of coffee. My friend liked her Iced Mint Mojito though. Overall, giving Philz Coffee a 3.5/5. Previous experiences have been better. Service and coffee at this location are okay. Maybe I need to try a drink I have had before to compare. Would not recommend based on this experience but would try them again. read more

The service at this Philz is always outstanding. I came by last week for a quick pick-me-up in the afternoon and it was such a nice way to end my work day! I brought my laptop. There is limited seating, but free wifi is available. I tried one of the new winter drinks, Tiramisu. It's definitely on the sweeter side, so highly recommend asking for less sweet. I also normally don't go here because of the parking situation, but the parking garage near the library is actually free for 90 minutes! Highly recommend parking there if you don't want to deal with street parking. Anyways, highly recommend Philz! It's truly one of the best places to get coffee and I haven't had a bad experience at any of their Philz locations so far. I've been coming here since 2008 and this spot never disappoints. It's one of the few locations that still does things the old school Philz way before they scaled and some of it's stores lost its charm. At this location, you order directly with the barista before heading to the register. Just tell the cashier what you ordered (honor system) and they ring you up. The baristas are super knowledgeable and are there to help answer your questions if you're unsure about what you want. When your drink is ready, they call your name and hand it to you without a lid so you can take an initial taste test. If you're not satisfied, they'll fix it on the spot. Once you're good to go, grab a lid and you're all set! Simple but such a nice touch that you don't see anywhere else anymore. If you're nearby, definitely stop by! Honestly, it's worth going a little out of your way and there are cool local shops and things to check out around the area too. read more

I really love Philz. I have a regional role for work, and San Jose is one of my offices. Whenever I visit, this is my first stop. At this location, you order at the counter directly with a barista and then pay at the register. Philz in general is my favorite coffee shop in the Bay Area because their seasonal drinks are unique and different from other cafes. I love the tiramisu latte they have on offer right now! I deducted a star because this location doesn't have a restroom, which is very inconvenient especially after the 2-hour commute in. It would stress me out to spend considerable time here without accessible facilities.... So maybe that's why they don't have one? They don't want people hanging out all day? It's very busy, but a great location, and I'll keep coming back. read more

I always love stopping at Philz when in town. The coffee is delicious. I always get some beans to take back home. The drinks are fun and different than what we have back home. Every time has been consistent and I haven't had a bad drink yet. The shop is always cheerful and crowded with people in the morning. Minus one star for not using the Philz app for pre-ordering drinks. Sometimes it can take up to 30-minutes to get your coffee depending on how busy it gets. I've also had times where I've gotten my coffee in 10-minutes. Some baristas are friendlier than others, but I've never had any issues here. You wait in line, place your drink order with a barista, pay for your drink, then wait for your coffee to be called. There are couches and tables usually taken by studious college students. There is plenty of street parking nearby and also a parking garage with free 90-minute parking. read more

I've been coming here since 2010 and it's still one of my favorite Philz locations. Came on a Sunday at 10 AM and it was fairly packed. I ordered the Mint Mojito which was delicious as always. The wait was around 15 minutes, which is reasonable given the crowd. What really sets this spot apart is that it still honors the original Philz tradition - baristas ask you to taste your drink before you leave and they'll happily remake it if something's not right. Most SF locations have dropped this practice and even the North San Jose one doesn't do it anymore. It's refreshing to see it upheld here. The vibes are great and the customers are always friendly. I'm not sure if it's officially dog friendly but I saw a few dogs inside. There are also a couple of outdoor tables if you prefer to sip your coffee in the fresh air. read more

Which is one of reasons why I love Philz. They're very customer oriented and make sure that the coffee will taste right. It does get pretty noisy due to the popularity of the coffee shop, but it just shows how well they're doing! Not pictured is the drinks. Every Philz is great but beware it may take a while to get your order. It's a bit smaller than other Philz store bc of the layout. The line blends in with the seating area. If it's busy, there's not really standing area to wait for your order, so good luck trying to hear them call out your order. I come here on my lunch break, but it can take about 10-15min if the SJSU students are also getting their coffee. I recommend the ginger snap or iced rose coffee with easy cream and easy sweet. The barista told me getting regular ice for their iced drinks are the best. Noted! read more

My favorite coffee place of all time! I've been coming here since my college days over. At least 10 years now. This location is within walking distance to SJSU. We stopped by on our way to Christmas in the Park. I ordered my usual min to mojito iced creamy and sweet. They brew fresh coffee on the spot and make it to your liking. My sister in law got the Tesora which was delicious too. It's more earthy. She ordered it extra creamy. Love this place but it is small. Not a spot you'll sit and hang out in but it's downtown so you can stroll downtown and sip your coffee, walk yo the park, or find a bench to enjoy your drink on. The service is on point too. Everyone is always friendly. If you've never been don't pass it up! Way better than Starbucks or Peet's. read more

Nice little coffee shop to hang with friends or study during a gap period. The music always sets a nice vibe and the cushion chairs are very cozy. I'd recommend checking DoorDash pickup to gauge how long you need to wait because it's busy morning to afternoon. The baristas are very particular in crafting your drink so the cool time, sweetness level, and creaminess is always right. Staff are friendly and I think they leave the cap off at first so you can see if your drink is right. I usually see them put a cap on if someone's order has been out for minute. Prices are fair :) My favorite is the iced Tesora (light ice, brown sugar, light cream, sweet). With or without cream it's tasty and isn't too sweet even though I order the highest level. I think the consistency of the baristas and brown sugar contribute to the Tesora being such an enjoyable drink. read more

Only place you cannot order a head is downtown since they are right across the street from a college and are always busy. You can expect the place to always be busy. I've been to many locations, and they usually do an exceptional job. I usually see dog treats there since its dog friendly in some areas. Minus 1 start since they sell their coffee beans more expensive than they do in the grocery store such as Target. I always buy their beans but not from their store. Been going here for about 5 years now. Great coffee shop with great energy. I get their iced jack n Jill with oat milk sweet and creamy. Jack n Jill is pretty much half jacob wonderland beans and Juliet's beans. Great blend of coffee. I've also tried the honey haze, mocha tesora, and their new cold brew oatmeal cookie. Overall my favorite is still the jack n Jill. Nothing beats it! Service is always great. The workers give out great energy. There are times where they aren't as consistent on the drinks. Some days they taste great and the next day they taste a little funky. But they don't mind if u make adjustments when the drinks are done. Great customer service. Always will be my go to coffee shop!
