Philz is my favorite coffee chain and I have an unhealthy obsession with their drinks. On most weekdays, I order ahead on the Philz app and pick up my coffee on the way to work. The Sunnyvale branch usually honors the pick up time shown on the app and has the coffee ready on time. Lines are long if you don't order ahead and can easily take 15+ mins to get your coffee. Hello Philz. I'm ecstatic every time I come here. I've been back here on several occasions. Always on a weekend lately since I live in San Francisco and don't usually venture out to the South Bay. One Saturday, you had a long line of people waiting patiently for their turn. I think I waited 15 minutes for my coffee. No worries, it's fine, coffee was fine and I guess that's understandable, since it's a weekend and you're busy. But last Sunday, there were only two baristas on a busy afternoon, you always had a constant stream of people and it took me 20 minutes from ordering to getting my decaf and my Tesora. When I came up to pick up my coffee, the barista was obviously stressed out because he said, "I couldn't remember your order. Let me know if it's sweet enough or needs more sugar because I can't un-make it if it's too sweet to begin with." Ok -- maybe you should've clarified? I was standing in front of you WAITING the whole time. (It was too sweet, but I wasn't gonna wait extra 10 mins for him to remake it) I'll stick to my Philz locations in SF. This Philz Coffee is located in a great location! It is around plenty of other food spots, fitness gyms, and across the street from Caltrain. After my cycle classes, I like to work at this location. They were busy the morning I went so it did take a while to get my order as expected. I needed a quick fix and got excited about the price of their burritos until I saw how small it is. I love Philz coffee! Great selection of made to order tea and coffee, and an underrated breakfast food menu. Also a great spot to grab a table, hop on the WiFi, and get some work done. I got the Istanbul treat tea, which is a darker brew with some licorice flavors. If you're looking for a lighter tea the Philz iced tea is very refreshing, or if you want a creamier drink the chai tea with cream is exceptional. In terms of breakfast, I strongly recommend the Philz bagel, a perfect blend of rich cream cheese with fresh tomato and mint on a bagel toasted to order. Always liked Philz, coffee is never sour and service is great. Covid accomodations are great: order on the app, wait for the time it says, and pick it up on the table. Only issue is that sometimes the wait can be over 30 mins on busy days, so make sure to look at the expected wait time before you order. It can be crowded inside because people want to wait inside for their drink, but I like to wait outside until the app notifies me. They also offer hand sanitizer and have one enter door and a separate exit door. I've recently gotten into doing my own pour over coffee, and the internet suggested to have a coffee shop grind a small amount of coffee for reference on how small to grind it at home. I asked them to put some pour over sized grounds in a separate cup, and they went ahead and ground two cups and labeled which one is for cone pour over or flat bottom pour over (I couldn't specify because the special instructions had a small character limit). They were really sweet and showed me a grind chart. They even offered to grind up the bag for me. They didn't make me feel like I was asking for too much and were so nice the whole time. read more

Overall good coffee, I regularly buy the beans and make it at home. Recently this locations customer service has been sub par. The other day when picking up two cups of coffee and a bag of beans, I asked the person behind the pick up counter for a carrier and he turned around and said "for what"? I then had to explain to him, for the coffee I'm picking up? What kind of question is that? Today was similar as I could see my coffee and food sitting on the back counter while two other employees were sitting behind the counter just chatting. Sigh... atleast the coffee is good. To start off with the energy in that Philz coffee is super awkward as soon as you walk in the employees just stare at you no greetings just a stare. After ordering I swear this has got to be like the 3rd time In a row where I'm waiting over 15 minutes for a one drink! Mind you I do take into consideration that they might be busy with other peoples orders but the truth is there's only ever 1 or 2 other people ordering before or after me. SMALL CHAI WITH MEDIUM CREAM, LESS HONEY ($3.85) i'm sensitive to a lot of caffeine so decided to get a chai instead of coffee. i like how you're able to customize the sugar (they have normal sugar, stevia, honey, etc.) the honey paired nicely with the chai--less honey was more than enough sweet for me. i thought the small size was also perfect. you could really taste the cream as well. my chai was a little grainy though--the last few sips were filled with a lot of tea particles too. i know they have a dirty chai but i ordered a normal one, so not sure if it was mixed up or just not strained properly. regardless, a positive experience if you want a nice place to sit and work/meet up with a friend. reasonable prices too for the quality of ingredients! read more

This Philz is one of my favorite places to work! The place is always crowded, but somehow you can always find a seat. The seating is perfect for working, with backrest, tables at the right height and many power outlets. The ambience is magically somehow perfect for both a loud game of Jenga and as background noise to work to. It's sometimes a bit too cold, but you can always bring a sweater. The drinks are pretty solid - I like the Mint Mojito and Iced Rose as iced options, and New Manhattan, Silken Splendor or Ambrosia when it's cold outside. One downside is that the coffee at Philz is not very palatable without a little cream and sugar (I usually drink my coffee black). The food is pedestrian - I usually have a spicy hummus toast or yogurt if I need something. read more

Always love me some Philz!! This location is great and perfect on a Saturday morning because there's a farmers' market a block away. I love that you can adjust the creaminess and sweetness on your drinks, plus choose your choice of milk/creamer. The baristas really craft the drinks to your liking. They also have pastries and food items as well as coffee beans. You can ask for any of their beans and they would pack it then and there for you! I usually order ahead on their app and the pick up time is accurate. It lets you know exactly when your drink is ready for pick up. You can also order in person too. You order at the counter with the barista first and then go over to the cashier to pay. Since covid, they ask customers to wait outside for their drinks and they call your name over the speakers. I walked in and ordered a Mint Mojito and a twice baked almond croissant. There was a long line but it moved quickly. The gentleman taking our order was energetic and efficient. My almond croissant was warmed up and served to me. The croissant is good and had a generous amount of almonds on top. It took about 10 minutes to get my coffee. The Mint Mojito is very refreshing and minty iced coffee. I've recently ordered a mobile order pick-up for a large ecstatic iced coffee ready at 945am. I arrived at that time and was greeted with a smile and my coffee was ready to go. I couldn't really taste the toffee in the ecstatic coffee but it had an overall bold coffee flavor. I have a Philz addiction and it's real bad! Super dangerous that this location is a short distance from home. There's typically a long line (standard at most Philz locations), but know that the baristas are fast and efficient and you'll get your Philz typically within 5-10 minutes. And if you are in a hurry, use the Philz app. It'll tell you the estimated time of your cup being ready so you can plan accordingly. Walk up to the mobile counter order pick- up (next to alternative entrance/exit) and you're good as gold! Can't go wrong with any of the blends, as I've tried most but tend to go with the medium to dark roasts. My favs include Philtered Soul and Tesora. If I'm feeling like tea, the herbal mint or green tea are my go-tos. Lots of food goodies include the butter croissant or the avocado toast. They get all their pastries from Starter Bakery in Oakland, and talk about flaky and buttery goodness. Because of the frequency of my visits, the staff typically know my order as well as my better half's. They are super friendly and accommodating and always want you to be happy with your cup. Don't be shy in telling them to add more sugar or milk! They aim to please!! Just one minor minus with Philz in my book. They no longer sell the priciest cup ($10) of Jamaican Blue Mountain! I am not a connoisseur of coffee or tea... I just enjoy what's hot and pleases my taste buds. But my recent experience at Philz Coffee has encouraged me to dabble in the art of recreational coffee and tea taste-testing! Here, coffees, teas, and hot chocolates are made to order with a smile by a group of rockstar baristas that are A) ridiculously knowledgeable about what may tickle your fancy in the form of a caffeinated beverage and B) just all-around amazing individuals. Stopped in with my boyfriend for a late night rendezvous and was thoroughly and immediately impressed with service, cleanliness, atmosphere and variety. My boyfriend, a "I'll take my coffee black"-type of guy was interested in trying out chai tea for the first time and the barista behind the counter was both patient and accommodating, of the request. She helped him decide how sweet to make the tea and encouraged him to "taste it for perfection" before departing from the counter. Philz comes complete with a creative "would you rather" tip jar, uniquely flavorful snacks, spacious seating arrangements and enough outlets to charge a multitude of electronic devices, not to mention it boasts a truly "laid back" feel that could have kept me there for hours--if given the chance of course. No idea where to order, there was no sign. The sign I did see was to pickup. I saw the board with kinds of coffees but not sure what preparation. I just wanted an iced latte...it doesn't seem to be that kind of place. From what it looks like I pick a certain coffee from some country etc and tell them French press or pour over etc,I mean thats it? I must have had a blank lol on my face and no one even asked me if I needed help or what I wanted to order. I didn't have all the time in the world so I walked out turned right and went to Starbucks. Gone are the 70's vibes that you feel at the Mountain View location. The Sunnyvale store is all grown up and modern! Exposed warehouse pipelines on the roof, clean white counter tops, light wood accents, polished concrete flooring while the whole store lets in tons of natural light. It has a nice sitting area where you can have your Coffee Meets Bagel first date or just catch up on your reading. The coffee as usual, was stellar. I got a Mint Mojito extra sweet... I know, boring. But so good! My drip barista was about as quick as drip can be and got my drink just right, no adjustments needed. One thing at Philz, they always ask you to taste and double check your customized drink if you want any adjusting, which I love. If you are looking for beans, 1 lb. roasted beans are near the cashier for $20 a bag. This location is only a block away from Downtown Sunnyvale so if you're walking in that area or at the Macy's, just cross the street if you want a great cup of coffee! read more
