A Surprisingly Good Matcha Experience I was out running errands around the Del Amo Mall over the weekend and had gotten an early start to beat the Los Angeles South Bay heat. I also had to make a stop at the Torrance Farmers Market for my groceries, so I was trying to stay hydrated and caffeinated without drinking something hot. I've had a complicated relationship with matcha. My first attempt ordering it on my own was not great -- I found it very earthy and bitter. Since then, I've learned that matcha can vary quite a bit depending on the preparation and quality, and I've come to appreciate a smoother, more approachable style. The last time I tried matcha with my best friend, I was pleasantly surprised by how smooth and enjoyable it could actually be. So I decided to give Philz a try, because Philz has never let me down. And if I don't like something, their staff are always happy to help make it right. I placed a mobile order for the Strawberry Matcha, and it turned out to be exactly what I was looking for! One thing I especially appreciate about Philz is that oat milk is the default in many of their drinks. As someone who is milk-sensitive and also just doesn't enjoy the taste of whole milk, I LOVE not having to remember to modify my order. It makes ordering so much easier. When I arrived, my drink was ready quickly, even though there were probably 10+ mobile orders already waiting to be picked up. The Strawberry Matcha was refreshing, smooth, and delicious -- exactly what I needed on a hot South Bay day. The location was clean, the staff were friendly, and the barista even checked in to see if I liked the drink. I definitely did! Funny enough, I went into Philz that day thinking I didn't want coffee, tea, or my usual Yerba Mate... and walked out having discovered another caffeinated drink I actually really enjoy. I am always a fan of Philz Coffee!!! This one is located on the outside of the Del Amo mall. The coffee may be pricey, but you get a high-quality drink! Plus, for non-coffee drinkers, they have solid tea options-- The chai always hits the spot. Made with real tea not something that comes out of the box. Plus you can customize it with how much milk and honey you like. Ambiance: This coffee shop is smaller than other Philz. Inside there is several tables, plus a communal table and some lounge seating. Outside there is a decent size patio-- nice on cool morning. Plus, like all shops there is nice art work on the walls. It took about 10 minutes to get one cup of overly strong, undrinkably bitter decaf coffee (NOT counting waiting in line). Over the weekend I came to try this Philz location. It's located right outside of the Del Amo mall near some restaurants/eateries. Parking was really crowded since it was the weekend and around lunch time, but I was able to park in the last open space for pick up (10min time limit for certain businesses). There weren't too many customers inside and no wait to order. It took some time to figure out what I wanted but ended up ordering an Iced Tiramisu with cream and sugar. My husband ordered his favorite Iced Mint Mojito with cream and sugar. We got our drinks quickly and they both tasted great! Stopped by Philz Coffee on a hot day and ordered two iced drinks: the Silken Splendor and the Mint Mojito. The Silken Splendor was the perfect choice - smooth, refreshing, and full of flavor. I really enjoyed the tasting notes, and nothing about it felt overpowering. I also tried the Mint Mojito, and I appreciated that it was less sweet, which made it perfect for my taste. The staff was friendly and welcoming. The café had a relaxed atmosphere. It was a little busy with some background noise, but not enough to be distracting. Stopped by Philz after Pilates for a Monday morning pick-me-up around 7am, and it was a great start to the day. Even that early, there were a few people already working on laptops, and I noticed plenty of outlets--always a win if you're planning to stay awhile. Parking was super easy with a lot right out front, plus 10-minute spots if you're just running in for a quick pickup. Super super friendly staff and super customizable order to your coffee! I thought I visited a philz a few years back elsewhere and do not remember having so much choice in ordering. The staff gave me time to look at the menu. I ordered a hot philtered soul with medium sugar and creamy milk. The lady making it asked if I wanted any adjustments. I maybe should have added slightly more sugar but the medium was a good semi bitter sweetness level. The pistachio croissant had a very delicious filling! All in all a great experience. I'm rarely in this area yet I've already been to this Del Amo location twice in the past two weeks. I luv me some Philz and quite honestly I had no idea Torrance had one. My first visit gets 5-stars for the service alone! Was assisted by a friendly cashier who was helpful with deciding what vegan-friendly hot beverage to order. I was originally interested in the seasonal Oatmeal Cookie drink which only comes iced. So one of the employees reminded the cashier about a secret menu. I ended up getting a Julie's Ultimate which has hazelnut coffee brewed with cinnamon in the filter. I ordered this with almond milk, half sugar, and extra cinnamon sprinkled on top. I've only been to this location once but many years ago. This is about an hour drive from us so we are rarely out this way but Philz never disappoints! We were shopping at the Del Amo Mall (this coffee shop is located right outside of it) and decided to grab an iced drink before our drive home. Walked in, busy as usual but nothing out of the ordinary and the line moved fast. Plenty of seating too! I ordered a small iced nutty caramel nirvana which is one of their new drinks at this time. My friend had the rose foam coffee which I tried and is ok to me but I've never really fancied the rose or lavender food items in general so I'm biased. You can pick to adjust the level of sweetness. Iced cups come in hot paper cups which was interesting. The service was good but it is crowded so make sure to plan accordingly. The workers ask you to try the drink and ok it before leaving. My go to has been, and will probably always be, the iced mint mojito extra creamy and regular sweetness. I love having Philz in the area. I usually use the app to order and then pick up at the counter. I did try the seasonal tiramisu cold brew recently, and it was creamy and delicious... but not my mint mojito. The one surprisingly good item I absolutely love is their pistachio croissant! I know pistachio is having its moment via Dubai chocolate and all its mainstream variants. Here, the croissant has a nice flaky texture, and it's topped with some pistachios, icing, and powdered pistachio. Inside there's a pistachio-almond cream. It reminds me of a typical almond croissant, but instead of a plain almond paste that tastes too much like pure marzipan, it has a nice pistachio flavor. If I could have one wish about this place, I'd wish there was a curbside type of option. As a mom running errands with kids in their carseats, I'd prefer not to have to get the crew out of the car just to pick up my coffee. It's probably one of the reasons why I don't go as often as I want to. The only drawback are the wait times, they are a bit excessive especially at their larger and busiest locations. I have been to their locations in West Hollywood, Costa Mesa, and Torrance. I came to Philz to study while I was in the area. They have a couple tables with accessible outlets, but it's not that big inside. If it's busy it would be hard to find a table. They do have some additional seating outside. It's located between Nordstrom and Sweet Green, on the outside of the mall. I'm normally not a huge coffee drinker (and couldn't even tell you what the difference is between an espresso or a cappuccino), but Philz always comes through as offering a great drink without too much fuss. I ordered a Mint Mojito Iced Coffee since I was able to dilute it with some oat milk to make it creamier and less bitter. The mint really adds a nice touch to the drink and I found myself enjoying it much more than I thought I would. The barista even asked to make sure I was actually enjoying it before turning it over for me to really consume. Much appreciated! The space itself in this Philz was nice to work at for a few hours. A few tables with outlets right on the tabletop, making it efficient to charge your devices and use that good wifi. Finding parking inside the lot this Philz is in can be a nightmare though. We spent a good ten minutes searching wide before finding a spot. Philz has become one of my fave places to get coffee! My go- to is usually the iced coffee rosé. I get it with creamy cream, medium sweet, and iced. It's just SO good and very unique. The floral taste isn't too overpowering. It's just so yummy. I've been liking the Honey Haze as well! It's their coffee with oat milk and honey. It's so refreshing. Workers here are always super nice. They always offer to adjust the drink if it's not up to par, but I've never had to adjust my drinks before. Parking does get a bit crowded in the lot since it shares spots with so many shops, but there are a few spots for quick pick-up from Philz / the restaurants which is convenient at times! First time at Torrance Philz :) I've been to the El Segundo location a few times & this location definitely compares! Their drinks are solid; I tried the honey haze. I thought it was SO good. it's a cold brew sweetened with honey. You can also customize your sweetness & creaminess. I usually get the mint mojito, but this might be a new regular for me. Their medium size is also decently sized, and it's almost like a large. I actually expected the study space to be a bit bigger. After ordering my drink I had to wait for a spot to open up so I could get some work done. Luckily, a counter seat opened up. I thought that the counter was really high up in comparison to the seats &it made for uncomfortable use. I feel like I had to stretch my arms up to use my computer, and I kind of had to lean up to see my textbook on the counter. It's a good place to study if you can find an open seat. I ordered a coffee using the mobile app. It ended up being seven dollars for a black coffee. I have no issues with that. The service, however, was definitely lackluster. The person that made my coffee never called my name when it was ready and when I walked up to see if my name was on the cup of coffee, which it was, I thanked her and she just made some noise. They definitely should have a supervisor working upfront, making sure people are friendly to the customers. As I left the store and took my first sip of coffee, it was spilling from underneath the lid and the cup. They also have a mobile order which will probably save you some time. I like their mint mojito and honey haze, sweet and creamy, but it's more of a treat more so than a coffee. Aside from their featured creations, their regular coffees are quite strong. The inside is a bit small but they have a good amount of seating while you wait.
