This is my second time visiting this cafe! Both times have been very packed once on a Wednesday the other on a Sunday morning. It's nice cozy vibes and reminded me of the fancy cafes in Korea. The drinks are also quite tasty and strong! First time I tried the egg coffee and the second was the salted coffee. If you like custard sweet go for the egg. The salted was my go to since it was a nice balance between the flavors. The only thing we noticed was having to wipe down our table since it was sticky from the previous customers. I stopped by Phin Cafe on a Saturday morning and this place was packed. Not only was there a long line out the door, but every seat inside was taken as well. Additionally, all the standing room indoors was filled with people waiting for their drink orders; the place was no doubt over capacity. If you want a relaxing place to get a coffee and get work done, this is not that. This is definitely a grab and go type of place. My wife got their egg coffee and I got their salt coffee. The salt coffee tasted like a better version of the sea salt coffee from 85* Bakery. When we placed our order, we weren't prompted at all to adjust our sweetness level and it wasn't until we received our receipt that we realized we had placed our order that sweetness was adjustable. I was successfully able to change my order to be 25% sweetness with the barista behind the counter, but unfortunately, it was still way too sweet for me. I like that the coffee here is strong, but I'm not sure I would come again because of the large crowd and the price, being around $7 a coffee. read more

Seemed like most customers were taking their drinks to go given the limited seating in the cafe. Phin cafe had a good variety of different interesting flavored Vietnamese coffee, matcha, and milk tea. I got the durian coffee for $6.9 with less sugar and less ice. I like to drink the foam via the opening near the top, and then use the straw to sip some coffee near the bottom so to try them separately. The durian foam was good and wasn't overwhelming, and I felt like they used real durian given that there were some fruit pieces in the drink. Meanwhile, the coffee was quite strong and gave me the kick that I needed. Since I decided to have my coffee here, to my surprise a guy came up with a little wooden tray contained with all the ingredients to create the coffee. Love this experience! Cute little cafe! Came on New Year's Day and the line was pretty short. It was our first time visiting this cafe and staff were very friendly and patient. They were very helpful in explaining the different drinks on their menu. It's a bit small inside and apparently it can get quite busy, but after ordering, we were lucky enough to find a table quickly. They brought our 4 drinks out to us at our table, which was super nice! Not sure if they always do this, or if they did it because someone in my group ordered the Phin Coffee, which is an in-store only experience. I ordered the banana matcha. The banana cream sits below the matcha, which is interesting because at other cafes, it usually sits above the matcha. Despite this, the drink was still solid after mixing the banana cream into the matcha. I was so glad that the banana didn't taste artificial at all. The banana flavor is more prominent than the matcha though. I wished that the matcha was stronger. My bf said that the drink sorta tastes like banana milk lol, but I was still able to taste the matcha despite the flavor not being as present. I also ordered this drink with oat milk, which they said is the only alt milk they have. They don't charge extra for alt milk though, which is a plus. We got the Phin Coffee with egg cream, which is a Vietnamese drip coffee with fluffy, sweet cream mixed in together. We got it served in-house, so this very cool DIY assembly setup was provided. The coffee by itself is very dark and rich, but if you like sweet coffees, the egg cream definitely cancels out almost all of the bitterness! My friend took me here and I can back for a second time because I wanted their Coconut coffee. It was very busy when we visited on Sunday around 11am. Took a while to get our drinks since it was so busy. I got the Coconut Coffee and my friend got the Ube Matcha. Both did not disappoint. Coconut coffee is blended with some coconut flakes. It's got the perfect amount of coconut flavor and coffee! The Ube Matcha was also good, it had a thicker consistency than I anticipated but it was good too! I found my new go to spot! I love pandan so much and when I read it on the menu, I had to try! The place is located in a crowded plaza. The cafe is a perfect size to hangout and work on your laptop. I opted for the matcha pandan latte and pandan waffle. The pandan cream and the matcha were really good by itself but make sure to mix! It tastes so good! A perfect blend of sweet with a bit of tart. The pandan waffle wasn't as crunchy as I hoped. Just needed a tad more longer in the burner. It had good pieces of pandan inside to add a bit of texture though! Stopped in to try a drink since I was in the area and other reviews showed an interesting mix of various milk teas, coffees and smoothies. When I arrived and looked at their onboard menu, I noticed it was smaller than expected (print and visual-wise) and there weren't descriptions next to the drinks. Quite a few drinks had creative names that didn't allude to what's in it, like velvet smoke and golden silk. I didn't see any handheld menus when I was there, that had the drink descriptions either. Even their online menu doesn't seem to have drink descriptions. So I had to ask the counter person about the contents of several drinks. I ended up getting the Golden Silk milk tea and added the cheese cream topping (extra $1). The cheese cream was definitely creamy and thick. Venue was cozy with about 6 to 7 tables and at around 4pm when I visited, almost all tables were occupied with people working on their laptops and some students huddled together. They also seem to have various banh mi sandwiches, musubi, and simple rice dishes available. There are limited seats so if you don't go at a slower business time you'll end up standing and waiting for someone to MAYBE leave or you'll just have to TOGO and call it day. L O C A T I O N Phin Cafe is located in the same plaza as the first 99 Ranch in Fremont! It's to the right of it. So there is a large lot for parking but it can get a little crazy as it gets into the day. I N S I D E It's not a large space but they have a fair amount of tables inside. But get there early if you want to situate yourself and sit to enjoy your drinks and food or want to hang out. We were there for a couple hours and it was pretty full by the time we left. M E N U They have some food items as well as teas and matcha, but you're really here for the Vietnamese coffee folks. So I focused on the Vietnamese coffee. I decided on getting their Phin Coffee which we kind of overlooked in the menu because it didn't look like a menu item and I can see why due to the how it's placed on the menu and type face. It was a little hard to stomach the price of this coffee as when I did go to Vietnam to get the egg coffee, it was so cheap and so so so so good. I know I would need to fly to Vietnam which would cost so much more so I'll take what I can get. So how was it? So I did get the Phin Coffee with egg topping as I wanted to try something standard here. This is cannot be ordered as a take out and it needs to be ordered in as you get the whole phin set up and you have to wait for the coffee to brew. Don't drink it until all of the coffee has steeped! Then it's up to you to pour it on ice or not but since I know Vietnamese coffee is strong, I had it over ice and poured the topping on top. Tried it first that way, then mixed it all up. And....it was divine. DIVINE. I was buzzing in caffeine but so so good. The buttered sugared toast reminded me of childhood when I would take a toast, put butter and sugar and toast it in the toaster oven. I was so happy with my first drink that I ended up taking a coconut coffee to go (which is an ice blended drink and cannot be hot). I had coconut coffee in Vietnam as well so I was hoping it to be as good. Unfortunately the taste of this one felt off? Maybe it was bad coconut because my stomach completely turned when I just had a few sips of it. It did taste artificial/sour. Oh well. S E R V I C E The ordering process was easy. Payment easy. Folks there were quite nice and gave us recommendations when we were trying to decide on a couple items. O V E R A L L If you have never had Vietnamese coffee, or more so, egg coffee and don't think you'd go to Vietnam any time soon....go here. Do it. Sit and wait for that coffee to drip. It's a whole experience. Although I didn't have a good coconut coffee experience, it wont' stop me from coming back to try the other items on the menu. I still need to get the Milo coffee. MILO! I'm a sucker for Milo or Ovaltine in drinks. The wait for other drinks outside of the Phin coffee, isn't too long if you're taking to go. This new cafe opened up close by in the same complex as 99 Ranch and it is almost always busy! I have gone here a couple times usually 2-4pm or 10am whenever I'm driving by. This place took over where Sweet Orchid used to be. The inside is nicely decorated, very clean and modern but small. So when theres a huge line in here it gets pretty congested and hard to walk in and out. I have a couple coffee drinks, pandan waffle and musubis. My favorite drink by far is the egg coffee, i love that I can adjust the sweetness to its not too sweet for me. I think second would be the pandan coffee. The pandan waffle has really nice coconut flavor , warm and chewy, i always order it. The musubis, I was expecting spam plus whatever other filling like california roll and unagi like how they do it in Sack of Potatoes. But no. The California roll is slices of cucumber, imitation crab salad and a tiny avocado. But for the price I still think it's good. You get two pieces for $8.50. The staff are very kind. We should all be very patient and nice to them especially when they get really busy because they are trying their best. I heard so many good things about Phin Cafe so when the new location in Fremont opened up, I knew I had to try it. After reading reviews, I opted for the coconut coffee. There was a large coconut slush in the drink that you mix with the coffee. I loved it since it made the drink so much creamier. I was scared the coffee would overpower the coconut but it didn't. The egg coffee didn't blow my mind and was on brand for typical viet coffee. I would definitely recommend the coconut one over the egg coffee. Both of them are strong & definitely got us jittery after. We beat the line so we didn't wait too long. Keep in mind, there isn't much indoor seating. A Phin Cafe in Fremont and not super out of the way for a coffee run on the way to the freeway or when my kid goes to art classes. Phin Cafe replaces what was once Sweet Orchid but they definitely revamped the interior and seating of this place. I was impressed by the variety of the drink menu here as I was expecting a coffee heavy menu but saw they had tea and great bites as well. So far my regular go-to drink here has been the house coffee with the salted cream. However, I'm finding inconsistencies in the preparation of the coffee with the amount of cream or even just the amount of drink (one time I just had 2 sips and it was done). Maybe it's the weekend maybe not. The coffee lived up to the hype, it's strong and flavorful. Had the milo flavor with less sugar (yes you can indicate your desired level) and it was perfect. Will definitely come back to try other flavors, especially the Phin special which is only served dine-in. The minus star is for the wait for food. I did a whole round of shopping at 99ranch next door, waited a bit in line to pay there, came out to load groceries in the trunk, and the food was still not ready. 2 Bahn mi and a xio. Idk what took so long. The cashier apologized to each person who was waiting for food in their order. The xio is an interesting item since I've never seen this elsewhere (I don't frequent SJ viet town so if u know somewhere better do lmk!). The rice was very flavorful with coconut fragrance and everything combined in a bowl would probably be better but I was hungry and just ate out of the take out container. We came for their signature coffee. There's a lot of options. They have both cold and hot coffee. We ordered the egg and ube coffee. It came with a regular auger and iced. Both tasted good. It tasted more like a Vietnamese coffee. The ube is at the bottom of the coffee. You can taste the ube flavor if you sip right at the bottom. They also serve snacks. A new Vietnamese phin coffee shop has opened in Fremont! They're currently still in their soft opening so parking and ordering gets a bit chaotic especially during the weekends right when they open at 11 AM. I would highly recommend placing your order on their website for pick up to avoid waiting in the long lines. However do note that not all food items show up when you order online. Pandan coffee 3/5 - The coffee at less sweet and less ice was great, but the pandan flavor was too subtle. It would be great if the pandan foam had more pandan flavor to it. Coconut coffee 4/5 - At less sweet and less ice, this drink was good. The coconut flavor really pulls through and adds on to the sweetness of the coffee. Would recommend this drink. How I loved it here! Not only was it such a beautiful place--the food & drinks matched up to its level. My boyfriend and I were looking for a place to go spend some time before our Valentine's Day dinner so we brought our question cards to Phin Cafe. I did a bit of research before finally choosing this place a week before. There were students studying and hanging out with friends. We felt so welcomed by the baristas. I ordered the iced banana milk matcha w/ 50% sweetness whilst my boyfriend ordered the Hi Yellow, less sweet. We both enjoyed our drinks. They weren't too sweet which is a 10/10 in our book. I also ordered the spam musubi & had no complaints. I only hope this was closer to where I lived because I would be here so often. Overall, 10/10!
