I'm a huge phan of Phin! Phin is a really great coffee shop serving great Vietnamese coffee. The shop really transports you to a Saigon Cafe. The team is always really friendly and always ready to help with any questions. Pre-Covid, you could see people working and studying. I'm looking forward to seeing that bustle again. I've never had a bad drink at Phin. All their drinks stand out as high quality. For coffee fans, their Vanilla Cold Brew, Banana Latte, Taiwanese Sea Salt Iced Coffee, and of course their Cafe Sua Da are my favorites. I tried Phin Smith for the first time the other day and ordered their PB&C (Peanut Butter and Coffee). Originally ordering this, I thought it was just going to be a peanut coffee and nothing really special, but this drink actually surprised me. You can definitely taste the peanut butter with every sip and it's not like the coffees where the flavoring for it comes in afterwards. I think if I were to add anything to it though, I would order it with some sort of foam on top because it did taste a lot more like an americano than a latte in my opinion. Service here was great! They let you taste the coffee and make sure that it's perfect for your taste before handing it off completely to you which I think is quite considerate and really nice of them!! read more

I tried this since there was a lot of hype about this place. I got their matcha latte, but you can tell as soon as you drink it that they don't use real matcha (despite the price being pretty high for the drink). The color was also just a murky green. If you drink matcha, you know what I mean when I say the matcha should be a certain shade of green. Instead, it's the type of "matcha" powder where there's some sort of sweetener mixed in and you can feel the powder as you drink it since it just sinks to the bottom. I didn't really want to finish my drink, but since it was so expensive I just tried drinking it as fast as possible to avoid tasting it and then swishing with water. The matcha left a film on my tongue, too. Which was an experience... I do make my own matcha at home, so I might be a little more picky about matcha, but I just cannot get behind those bags of matcha with sweetener pre-added. It's not the vibe and never tastes good. The atmosphere here isn't great either. It was overly packed and loud. The layout wasn't working for how many people are coming through the shop. They had customers place their order then move down to pay, but didn't have a good waiting area to pick up drinks after. Also, the workers were just plain snobby and rude. It could have been that it was because they were busy when we went, but the way they acted was too snobby and wannabe-hipster for how mediocre the drinks were. I have heard that the Viet coffee is good there, so maybe if you're a coffee drinker just go for that. I don't think it's a good place to work either due to the noise levels and how crowded it was. I wish I had a better review to leave a Viet cafe, but that whole experience kind of sucked for how much hype this place has. There are plenty of good reviews though, so maybe my experience was just an exception. Regardless, I will not be going back. Instead of this place, I'd recommend trying Da Vien nearby for consistently yummy drinks (w/ more drink options and customizations) and a good space to work. I wanted to find a nice coffee shop where I could study and I found Phil Smith in my search. The place also was not very far from my hotel (currently visiting Disney for the week) and is only 2 miles or so , about a 5 or no more than a 10 minute drive which was a +. Street parking was easy also. It was a Monday morning so of course I had no issues this day. You enter the shop, the space is very large and open and bright and clean with lots of seating. Subtle music playing in the background was not a distraction and very conducive to getting some work and organization done, +++. I love the attire of the baristas. Very classy and handsome with their flat cap hats. Also very personable by greeting me immediately as I walked through the door and asking about my day. Excellent service, they ensure I am left a happy customer by having me taste my drink first before paying. No adjustments needed to be made to my drink though. I ordered a matcha latte , they use soy which is how I like it. The cost was $4.04 or something before tip for the smaller size. Came here because there was so many reviews. This coffee joint was probably the highlight of my trip. Banana coffee was so yummy, authentic banana taste with folds of coffee. Charcoal latte was also unique too and delicious. I love how they ask if it's your first time trying your drink and have you try it to your liking and are able to adjust it as you please, but I loved the coffee right off the bat. 10/10/21 - Phin Smith has won me over with their delicious, high quality coffees and very friendly staff. As a first timer this past weekend, I decided to order the banana coffee and O'ahu Joe, and my eyes definitely lit up {insert fire emojis}. Coffee was so fresh and premium quality, and does NOT taste like artificial syrup at all or like burnt coffee beans. It was perfect. It's obviously a very popular cafe, and it was packed when my husband, bro in law, and I went on Sunday. Although they were very busy, they were pretty quick with taking orders and delivering coffees. Spot on. Another thing I liked was that the baristas let us try our coffees on the spot to make sure it was to our liking and would adjust it for us if needed be. That's a definite plus for me. It was evident to me that the staff of Phin Smith Cafe really cares about not only the quality of their coffees and service, but also their customers. Everything about this place is just excellent. My friend recommended this place when I came to visit from SD and it did not disappoint! The interior was so pretty and open. There were lots of tables to hang out or study at. Here, you order at the bar and wait for them to make your drink BEFORE paying, so that you can get exactly what you want! Such a good concept. Coconut coffee is a must-try here. Honestly, I have to come back for this drink after the first try. The bitter coffee tastes creamier with an addition of coconut cream. With about $4 for a large cup of coffee, I think this is reasonable for a well-made drink. There is not many electric socket around, but you just need to simply ask the barista for a portable charger for laptop or cell phone. The coffee shop has an elegant decoration, perfect for a date, friend gathering, or just to study. The most important part is that they have a wonderful customer service. The barista will ask if we have ever had this drink before and they let us taste the drink first to see if we like it or not before actually paying for that drink. I was randomly browsing on Yelp for new boba spots to check out in SoCal and I randomly stumbled upon Phin Smith. This place is an absolute gem, it's a cute shop on Main Street that specializes in Vietnamese coffee. From the reviews I read, the Vietnamese coffee is pre-made. They do have a bunch of different variations of Vietnamese coffee from their lavender lattes to rose lattes and blended ice coffee drinks. I got the Vietnamese coffee phin style which means they added hazelnut creamer and sea salt foam on top. The coffee is slightly sweet and the sea salt foam adds a nice salty touch. I was actually blown away, it was really good! I'm not usually a huge coffee drinker but the only occasions I get it, is iced Vietnamese coffee from either phin smith or 7 leaves. I'll start off by saying that you can't go wrong no matter what drink you order. The lattes here are amazing because the flavors are deep, yet the drinks are not too sugary. Matcha Latte: the drink is made with soy milk and is very prominent in this drink. You can also tell that they don't skimp on the matcha as the flavor are very rich. Charcoal Latte: I couldn't really describe the flavors, but I will say that it's comparable to taro, but even that's a stretch. It was just a good drink overall and very 'charcoaly'. You'll find a lot of residue when you're finishing up the drink. The shop had lots of mixed seating which made the place look unique. There are stools, benches, couches for whatever comfort you like. Found this place in yelp and it had 5 stars so I had to try it out since I was in the area! I ordered the cafe sua da and the dustino. Not 100% my cup of tea, and that's the reason for the 4 stars (but I know a lot of people love it!). Kind of like an almond joy! It did have a hint of an alcohol taste (from an extract or stevia or something? Not sure completely) but other than that I really enjoyed it. It was smooth rich and pretty good! The cafe sua da was just not my jam.... It tasted strongly of coffee, as weather, and maybe too much extract? I'm not sure... But I knew it was going to have a different taste to it when I ordered it (from reading all of the yelp reviews) but I still thought I'd try it! As Bayareans there are tons of Vietnamese coffee spots all over but I have to admit Phin Smith is one of the best I've tried! My wife and I definitely fell in love instantly. We are avid coffee drinkers and whenever we take a trip we always make the effort to check out a couple of local coffee spots, show some support instead of standing in a long ass Starbucks line. My wife and I decided on a last minute weekend getaway to So Cal to check out Catalina Island for the day and Touch of Disney. She stumbled upon Phin Smith on Yelp and knew I would love it. Luckily we were staying in Anaheim so it wasn't too far from us. Its on a cute little block, we had no problem finding parking. Although the decor was a tad "bougie" for my liking it was still very nice. Bright, clean and very LA/trendy. To my surprise there was only 2 other people in the store so we got lucky with no line. The girl taking orders immediately greeted us and asked us what we would like. She was super sweet and knowledgeable. Although I had browsed the menu beforehand they had made changes so I ordered not seeing that the Oahu Joe was available so we changed our order and added a bag of coffee after she checked us out but she was really patient. My wife and I have the "order 1 of everything" tendency, very dangerous! We ended up ordering the Iced Oahu Joe (iced coffee with coconut and a tad of vanilla), Coconut Coffee (slush blended coffee with a nice coconut flavor), Calamantea & a bag of the District 1 roast. Everything was really good! I am more of "I like more cream than coffee" kinda of coffee drinker so this place was right up my alley. If you a lover of coconut, you will crave this yummy goodness! This place would be absolutely perfect if they allowed you to adjust the sweetness but unfortunately you can only choose between ice/hot and unfortunately the Oahu Joe only came in one size. Located on Main Street in Garden Grove (perpendicular to the Costco). Parking can be difficult to find if construction is occurring. This is one of my go-to places to pick up coffee before going to work. The Javacado is one of my favorite drinks - I'm not usually a fan of blended ice drinks but I love how the espresso and avocado blends so nicely together. It's not overly sweet and doesn't taste watery when melted. I will keep coming here because of this drink. Their matcha lattes aren't too bad, but they're not my favorite. This is one of the top aesthetic coffee shop in the OC. This cafe is modern yet incorporates regal Vietnam. I ordered the cafe sua da (~$4.50) which tasted delicious but honestly all cafe sua da in general is. The customer service was on point. One of the barista girls was soooo helpful and explained a lot of the drinks on the menu. What's good about this cafe is they let you try your drink first to make any adjustments. This place is a hidden gem in downtown Garden Grove. The ambiance is perfect for studying and socializing with ample seating and wifi. Parking is free an easy to find on a weekday. Phin Smith is a local staple in the GG cafe community! First, it is on a small cute street so parking may be tough. It was busy at both 10am and 1pm when I came. I had their ca phe sua da many times before and it's very good. I wanted to try the banana milk coffee since my friends hyped it up but I am not a banana or sweet person, so I didn't like it much. The inside is very cute and has places to study, but it's pretty loud as it's always crowded and you can hear people talk a lot. The service is amazing! The line moves fast and they are very kind though I am sure they are stressed from working hard and quick all day. I swear I'm not a coffee snob. But I do run on caffeine. And generally at home I prefer a loose leaf brewed tea preferably oolong or jasmine green. Situated inside like a shared "hall" of other tiny drink/pastry/dessert shops. Staff are super friendly nice. Have you been here before, let me have you try it before you pay for it. I can add a shot etc etc. never had such a warm service for coffee beverages before. Lavender latte $4 (small) - normally most places it feels like a pump of lavender buried under a meh coffee. Here it's like that sure is lavender! And the coffee was smooth and rich (coconut cream?). There's an empty sweet aftertaste that I can't really place but if makes me want to keep sipping it. Absolutely in love with this place. There are so many coffee and tea shops in the garden grove area, but this place has its own special type of charm to it. Hands down my favorite spot to study in the area. "Phin" refers to the Vietnamese coffee filters used to make cà phê. The aesthetic of this place is a fusion of Vietnamese and American motifs. There's a lot of natural light that comes in from the glass windows, and the seating is very open. There is also an outside patio as well, so finding a spot to study isn't an issue. There is street parking along the Historic Main Street where the shop is located. I had no problems finding parking on a monday afternoon, but it might be an issue at peak hours. Ordering here is similar to Philz, where you order your drink first, and then pay at the cashier once you receive your drink. The baristas are so nice and helpful as well. They told me that they offer portable chargers for your laptop and other electronic devices. So if you're planning on staying a while to get a large volume of work done, finding and outlet won't be an issue! SO GENIUS. I had the iced green thai tea and was perfect. I'll definitely be back to try their coffee and other things on the menu! I wish I lived a bit closer so that this can be my new spot to study. read more
