We decided on Phlight for the variety of shareable small plates. When we come here we always order the bacon wrapped dates and sweet potatoes fries- they come with yummy aioli. These two items are my fav! Today we also ordered the phlight burger, Brussels sprouts and the grilled octopus and shared amongst 3 of us. We also had two rounds of sangria. Completely in awe! Wow the food, service and ambiance is one of a kind. The chicken adobo wings, Paella, pork and lengua taco and the corn esquite was so delicious. So we came here the other night with a couple of friends looking for something different than the regular fare you would get from your local eatery. I can tell you this is the place! From the bacon wrapped dates, the unique way they make their carnitas, the albondigas, and the ahi tuna tostada just to name a few, are amazing! The asparagus was served on a smear of baba ganoush and both were so delicious! Crispy lentils were very flavorful and had a nice crunch but were still soft on the inside. The bacon wrapped dates are an absolute must!!! We had 1 waiter assigned to all of us and he did a phenomenal job keeping our drinks filled and the food rolling along while keeping all the empires plates clear. Excellent service! I have been to this establishment 3 different occasions. The first time, the cook was drunk and through a drink at me and my friends. I gave them a second chance, and everything was fine. The 3rd time and the last time was a horrible experience. I'm convinced the only people who receive good service are the owners friends. My husband and I waited 45 minutes for a table. Two big groups that the owner new were seated before us. These groups even giggled and laughed how fast they were seated before everyone else. Fine, that's a perk of owning your own restaurant. We were finely seated, 20 minutes after ordering our drinks one salad came out. 30 minutes later I received one taco. My husband still had not received his plate. Everyone around us who was seated after us had already finished their meal and payed their tab. Hour later we canceled my husband order. (Flat stake). Empty drink cups were never picked up. The entire time we waited the owner sat with friends and drank. I was very Disappointed he did come to our table to apologize. I will never return to this restaurant. In my opinion the owners and staff are not professional. Or don't show any remorse. Which is very unfortunate because I don't think there is another restaurant in uptown Whittier that is similar to this establishment. The ambience is beautiful. Parking: open, free It's good, for Whittier -- which doesn't say much. This is overpriced and not so great. We had 2 orders of the bacon wrapped dates. I thought these were good but not amazing. Sweet with semi-crispy bacon. I ordered a caesar salad which didn't taste anything out of the ordinary. Chiles rellenos were not authentic but one of my favorite dishes I tried that night. The mac and cheese was so disappointing. It looked like it came out of a blue box. Chicken wings tasted like it was drenched in salt. Even the mayo possibly aioli sauce couldn't mellow it out. Porky belly tacos were good to me but not worth ordering again. If you are a foodie, avoid this place. It is a cute concept for Whittier but you can definitely get better food elsewhere. read more

If you're unable to find street parking, there is a parking structure located right across it. A "small" detail I appreciate is that Phlight's menu only takes up one page -- food and dessert on one side, drinks on the other. No need to flip through a 10-page menu. In my opinion, this doesn't mean there's a lack of variety, but that they put a lot of care into each dish listed. The menu also changes every now and then, which helps keep things fresh. Okay, so onto the good stuff! Here are my personal recommendations/must-trys: ARUGULA SALAD -- Peppery arugula leaves, nutty pumpkin seeds, sprinkles of goat cheese, and a light pomegranate vinaigrette -- BOMB AHI TUNA TOSTADA -- Generous chunks of marinated ahi tuna on a crispy tostada with shredded romaine and creamy aioli -- BLISS (I'll take three more, thanks) PATATAS -- You may think "these are just potatoes, how good could they be?" Small tapas were actually pretty good and the service was very friendly and expedient, but the ribeye steak special was not too impressive to say the least. When the server mentions a 46-48 oz. tomahawk bone-in ribeye steak our eyes lit up. Ordered it medium and it came out a little more medium rare but that's ok. However the steak was so tough, chewy, and fatty.....and $100!!!!! 100% not worth it. This wouldnt keep me from going back but i would stick to the small tapas plates. I wanted to really like this place and tried it again after about 2 years later. That food is not bad but not impressed. Ordered the Paella $29 (wayyy overpriced for what you get- 3 mussels 4 shrimps and a lot of rice. The dish just felt really over salted and the macaroni and cheese was the same. Not bad by any means but nothing impressive. The dates were tasty and we had a burger to go along with it. Overall I'd say to try it if you haven't done so. Ohhhh, Phlight. There once a time we would eat here once a week, but we live a little far to go weekly. We stopped in for the first time in ages last week, and I am so glad we did. Food was on point as always! We ordered the Albondigas meatball dish, the esquites, the bread with dip, and the caesar salad. Everything was perfect! Those meatballs are sent from heaven. The tomato dipping sauce for the bread was so good! Next time I am ordering extra. The pairings with the corn were some of the best we had. The salad is a unique twist on a traditional caesar and we enjoyed it very much. We do miss the poached egg on toast, the flat bread, and the John Dory ceviche. Maybe these dishes can make a special comeback one of these days! The dinner special that night was a skirt steak with fries for $20. Such a deal and looked amazing. Hopefully they will have it again, because we wish we ordered it, but we were craving too many things on the menu. Carlos, the long time employee, always gives exceptional service. My husband is a former chef and restaurant owner, so he is intrigued by open kitchens. We always sit at the bar, so he can watch the chefs in action. We have recommended this place to all our friends and family. Over the years, we have helped create many fans for Phlight! Giving 2 stars because I've been here several times and in the beginning it was a really wonderful spot to have a light dinner at. In the past several months, it's getting tougher and tougher to dine here. Last Sat (3/9/19) Had dinner with GF. We really don't ask for much or expect much when we dine. We're happy spending time focused on each other rather than everything else. But.... Host left several patrons at the podium for 10 minutes wondering if they had to put their names down or... The restaurant was smoky and poorly ventilated for some reason leading to a haze in the air that affected your eyes after a little bit. Service was the slowest it's ever been. Took 1 hr from moment we sat down until we could leave. (In the past, dinner would have been 30 min tops, plus we had simple orders). My favorite is checking my bank statement today and finding that our waitress gave herself and extra $14 tip. Will be disputing today. Gonna be a while before we visit again :( read more

Everytime I visit phight it is always smokey do they what to get us sick ? This last time I went the floor was so sticky was like walking into adult movie booth. When I get home all I can smell is the smoke from the restaurant. Huh worse then a smoking bar. My girlfriend likes this place more then I do. This visit was to grab a drink and dessert so only $28.
