We've been ordering takeouts from pho #1 for a while and mostly had decent experience. Today I decided to get an add-on of ox tail for $5, as a treat for myself. Yet when the food was delivered my jaw dropped - the three tiny bones they gave me were at most thumb sized (see attached photo). As a reference, all three were smaller than the sliced meatball they gave me. In addition, the parts they gave me were probably the least meaty part on an ox tail. I took a total of three bites and no more ox tail meat was to be found. This is truly disappointing. Was the inflation really that bad?! Or maybe you should pay some attention to your DoorDash markup?! read more

This is a solid spot in close proximity to my gym for Vietnamese. The pho is pretty clear and tastes good. Smoothie quality is moderate, but still worth it imo. I had to try this place because the overall rating is good but this place got quite a few low ratings. Some were specific to customer service, but others were for food, so I had to try it first hand. I got a pho and the vermicelli bowl with shrimp, pork and egg roll. I agree with other reviews that the pho broth is salty. I thought the vermicelli bowl was pretty good. I enjoyed the mix of fresh veggies but I only got 2 pieces of shrimp. This seems to be a standard pho place where some of the menu items are a hit or miss. The one thing that makes this place stand out compared to other pho places is that this place feels cleaner. I'd go back if I were in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here. read more

I ordered #21 - spicy seafood soup. Food looked amazing! Added bean sprouts, basil and jalapeños. Made my side dish of siracha and hoisin sauce. Before digging in, the soup smelled different. I assumed it was the fish sauce so I started eating. Shrimp gone! Went to the imitation crab meat... in my mouth it tasted weird but it was mixed with the noodles and soup. I grabbed another different piece and smelled it. It smelled rotten. I grab a third piece same issue. It didn't have the smell of crab, fish or fish sauce. It smelled like it went in the soup slimy. I let the restaurant know. Their response was, "okay". No... 'would you like a different bowl?'. No offer for something else. Nothing. "Okay." Just paid. Employee said he was sorry I did not like the soup.... I told him again the imitation crab was rotten... He thought I was going to remove the crab meat and keep eating the rest of the soup. This can't be real. I must me in an alternate universe. 3:26a.m. Spent the last 30 minutes on the toilet... it won't be the only trip. read more

At Pho#1 In Sunnyvale, the seafood soup broth was flavorful. Seafood quality was medium-OK except the fish balls tasted awful and should be replaced with better quality seafood. The worst part is that it was a cold January day with outside temperature about 50F and the inside temperature at lunchtime was COLD, which caused two problems: 1) I was cold and I had to keep my winter coat on while eating; and 2) the hot soup broth cooled to an unacceptable level and that ruined the taste. Upon arriving I told two employee it was too cold inside and to turn the temperature up. The female employee seemed irritated and mumbled that the heat was already on. The male employee was more polite; he said it was cold because the restaurant opened only about 20-30 minutes ago. To me, that is a poor excuse. A competent business would set the thermostat to be comfortably warm when the place opens, not 50 minutes after opening. read more

Just your average pho shop in the strip mall. I ordered my fave Bun Bo Hue today. Service is friendly and quick, I had my piping hot soup shortly after ordering. The broth is not quite as rich as I am used to for this dish, but is still ok. They are not stingy in the meat ingredients! Also they gave me bean sprouts instead of the usual shredded cabbage that comes with this dish, but I'm ok with that. I would say food taste is maybe 3.5 stars, but overall experience is 4 stars. read more

But for an $18 rice plate, you would expect a decent serving. Everything on the plate was tiny. And they flattened everything to make it look like a lot! Great price, quick service and pretty decent vegan pho. Please take my review with a grain of salt since I know 90% of the items on this restaurant's menu features meat. I ordered the veggie pho with veg broth. There was a generous amount of vegetables, sparse amount of tofu and clumpy noodles. I appreciated the plate of sprouts/basil/pepper/lime thing was the perfect amount. No longer are we left wasting a bunch of that fresh produce. This place has that dialed in. You know what else they have dialed in? A delivery robot! A. PHObot! My pho was brought to my table by a robot with trays of food. It displays your table number on the screen so you know that this is your food. Once you've picked up your food, you press the "ok" button and that sends the robot on its way to its next destination. Besides the clumpy noodles, I'd say the food was pretty good. It could be a one off thing as I remember this place was decent the last time I came. Of the vegan pho's I've had in the area, this place serves the best. The broth is just rich enough and doesn't taste overpoweringly mushroom-y. On another note, this place is super covid-safe. There are acrylic panels separating every table and the service is almost contactless. If you're feeling uneasy about dining-in at a place, this is a great restaurant to ease your way back into eating inside. read more

I've been coming here off and on for years. They are always reliable for a delicious and fairly priced bowl of pho. I typically get the #2 beef pho. The service is incredibly fast from ordering to food arriving. They added plastic partitions in between each table, which was thoughtful and nice during the Covid-19 timeframe. We've gone to this pho places a few times because it's the closest pho restaurant to our apartment. Honestly, for all the options that are in the Bay, it's alright. My husband always gets the beef pho (#14) and I've gotten the crispy noodles with chicken. Today I got the vegetable egg rolls and the tofu spring rolls. Both were okay. The spring roll was literally just lettuce, noodles and tofu - none of the usual herbs that bring some flavor. The food is never bad, but it's never too amazing either. read more

I've been ordering from from Pho#1 a lot recently. We love that they serve both Vietnamese and Filipino food. It's always busy inside, sometimes you have to squeeze between tables and chairs. The food was always great, they did get my order wrong twice. The Filipino food can sometimes be a little bit of a gamble, we ordered it once, and it was just not good. As with other reviews, pricing is very reasonable. I liked how the place felt clean and still had barriers to separate tables. I ordered a small bowl of Pho Tai. The sides/condiments were brought out almost immediately. You can see (image attached) how nicely organized the tray was - oyster sauce, hot sauce, bean sprouts, basil and a lemon. I prefer limes but a lemon is close enough. The broth was very tasty and I enjoyed it. I did add oyster sauce and hot sauce as per usual but not too much. A squeeze of lemon and a few peppers were added too. Overall, satisfied with the selection. The beef was tender enough but the noodles were the real star IMO. Pretty good pho, but a little pricey for the location and quality. Got the #1 and #2. Noodles were a little hard, which was a first for me at a pho place. Soup was a little soy sauce flavor, which was also a first -- would prefer more beefy than soy sauce. Reasonably clean and spacious. Service was OK. I came here with my family on an early Friday evening. We got beef pho, vegetable pho, a rice plate, vegetarian egg rolls, avocado smoothie, and strawberry lemonade. Both pho bowls were delicious!!! We got the Beef Pho with rare steak and lean brisket and Vegetable Pho. I was really impressed that they put a lot of meat in the beef pho. The meat was a bit more on the chewier side. I'd rate the broth a 7/10! Maybe I'm more of a noodle girl, but I wish there was slightly more noodles because I finished that first LOL. The vegetables in the vegetable pho were flavorful and the perfect texture (not raw veggies but also not too soggy). My mom got the #51 Combo 2 - Grilled Pork Chop, Grilled Shrimp, Egg Cake, and Egg. She really enjoyed everything and thought it was really flavorful. She especially liked the egg cake! The vegetarian egg rolls were hot and crispy on the outside but the filling was slightly too sweet..Maybe from carrots? Avocado smoothie was great, not too sweet! Strawberry lemonade tastes like normal strawberry lemonade. They are still very COVID cautious. There are dividers separating each table. The servers bring out your utensils and the sides for your dishes (like the Sriracha/hoisin for pho) when at other Vietnamese restaurants these would be on the table where anyone's hands could have touched it before. Yum!!! I came here for lunch today with a friend. We really enjoyed our meal! It happened to be a stormy rainy day which isn't that common in the Bay. We were craving pho and I specifically wanted wonton soup. We came to Pho #1 and I asked for my wontons steamed since their menu only had fried wonton. I was happy they were able to accommodate that for me. The broth was incredible. My friend got the Beef Pho #3 rare steak. His broth was insanely good! I had a taste and was blown away. Very flavorful and they give you a lot of noodles. We got the fried roll appetizer and it was so good we had to order another! They got this robot that delivers the food and it's really cute. Service was good. I did notice the prices in store are much cheaper than DoorDash but I think that's how it is for all places. For a restaurant that proudly claims to be Pho #1, I gotta say... I have to knock it down a few points. It's definitely not the best pho ever but it is passable to anyone that's had little experience with the legendary beef noodles. My Mom and I came here after my surgery at nearby Kaiser so you'd think the anesthetics would kick in and tell my stomach that everything I consumed now would be phenomenal. The pho that we ordered here, while not bad by any means, did not fully satisfy that craving I had inside. We each got the Pho #1 combos with each bowl at about $13. The tendons in our bowl were extremely chewy and inedible and the broth itself was not very flavorful. I honestly thought it tasted more like watered down beef stock than what I'd call amazing pho. Noodles were hard at first but eventually broke apart after soaking in the broth for a while. You can see at first glance, it left much to be desired. Before we got our bowls of pho, we also split their Pork & Shrimp spring rolls, which were extremely simple and bland as well. Yikes, I'm starting to realize that I didn't really like this place after all to be quite honest. But it works for pho if you're in the area. This review is for the Vegetable Pho (29). Came here with a large group of friends. I give Pho #1 major props for even having a vegetable pho option, but the vegetable option is very much just ok. There's a lot of vegetables (onion, cabbage, broccoli, carrot) but they're not cooked very well and still quite tough. Came here with the Allen's tennis team, since this is one of those places that opened decently late in the quiet city of Sunnyvale. The service was kind of all over the place- they were trying to clean up, while more people came into the restaurant. Also, kind of weird they wouldn't give us the menu until our entire party came.... Anyhow. I ordered #23, a large Beef Stew Soup with Rice Noodle ($11.50): +1 nice, large chunks of beef! It was plenty for me, and definitely had a couple extra pieces to share with Allen. +/-1 Rice noodles were nicely cooked, nothing too special. They gave a good amount, though! +/-1 A bit on the fence about the broth. Didn't feel like it was a soup, more than a thick dipping sauce/curry texture with lots of flavor. Super fatty, but held lots of flavor. This was a bit harder to eat near the end without noodles, but by then I was already pretty full. Overall, good spot for pho in South Bay! Pho and Bun are good. However they charge a fee for using a table that's larger than 4. And they charge you for leftover containers.

Pho #1 is located right next to Bonchon and Sharetea (so grab some boba after!). Usually not that crowded and there is plenty of seating. I usually order the pho tai or bun bo hue. Pretty good and quick service. Prices are reasonable and employees leave you alone unless you need something. Place is clean and they accept credit cards. Checks all those boxes. read more

It's been a couple years since I've been back. Got their BBH and rice plate combo #2 on a Wednesday night. Service was good but the food is not what I remembered it to be. The BBH was mega salty and lacked depth in flavor. For the rice plate, the egg cake was super dense and dry and the pork chop was very salty. We've been here a couple of times since the management has changed. You can really taste the difference in their pho broth. It's better compared to the previous management. I've ordered the Pho Tai and the Bo Kho. Both are good! The pho broth has a lot of flavor and their cuts of meat are very good too! I love how their Bo Kho also has a lot of flavor and very buttery. I like dipping the french bread in the soup. I noticed that there was more tendon compared to beef, but it's okay since I would already be full from drinking the soup and eating the bread. The restaurant is also good at keeping customers safe and distanced. Majority of the tables are separated by a divider and the menus are under a glass at the table. One thing we didn't really like is that it's very cold inside for some reason. So not only are we cold while we're eating, but our food would get cold pretty quickly. Good food overall! read more
