But while we're on the topic of the banh mi, the menu note about raw egg yolk is a little scary.) Definitely $$, not $ as currently listed. I like that the two front corner tables are reserved for families with small children. Easy high chair access, space for a stroller. the food quality has gone down over time but it was still good enough to eat if hungry until now. The broth flavor for example is inconsistent. In January I went to eat after a late night. The pho I ordered had a piece of sponge on it. The green scrubbing bit. I let it go. Seemed like an honest mistake also it was late at night. Now in April I ordered a combination soft noodle chow mein and it was terrible. I found a piece of unidentifiable plastic. At first I thought it was an ugly piece of cabbage vegetable until I tried to bite it again. It didn't tear and had a chemical taste. On top of that the liquid "sauce" soaked the noodles! Pooled at the bottom not in a good way. Meat to vegatble ratio was 1:20 not like 1:5. I had to get an extra bowl to remove the mountain of vegetables before attempting to eat as to have space on the plate. Salty as hell too. Again I can forgive the meh taste but finding too many nonedible scraps has cemented me to never come here again for a meal. Be careful people! Came all the way from SF to try this Pho place. So I will give it my honest fair review. BROTH- Greasy but tastes great. NOODLES- Good MEAT- Too tough, not cooked long enough CARROTS- Was served Raw, almost chipped my teeth. The male server, was not pleased when I informed him in a kind polite manner of the carrots being too tough in my stew. Good restaurant to satisfy any Vietnamese food craving you might have. Very good service and friendly staff. But this place cuts a few corners in their food which is a big deal to those familiar to Vietnamese flavors. The greens they have in their spring rolls are just lettuce, while most other places will also have cilantro and basil or mint. They also only gave me one shrimp per roll while most places do three. Water cups come half filled, which screams "we are cheap". Vietnamese coffee is watered down and doesn't have much condensed milk flavor at all. I have lunch at this place about once a week. Usually Karen (I hope I got her name right) is the one who takes care of me and she recognized me within my first 2 visits. Super friendly! The place is very clean, and the rest of the employees are friendly as well. I always get the veggie pho and I have to say it's one of the best veggie pho I've had. Sometimes I'll go with my sister and she usually gets the chicken pho. Even though she is very picky, she does like the pho here at Pho #1. Service was incredibly slow, the waiter couldn't seem to answer any questions (like what's in a drink), the pho broth had no taste, and the whopping 3 pieces of lean brisket I received in my large bowl were anything but lean. When I was able to get the waiter's attention, he claimed all of their brisket was like that. When I asked if I could get something else as a replacement, he said no. Let's start with the food. Delicious. I ordered the #50, which is the classic variety rice plate that includes all the most popular goodies. A grilled shrimp, grilled pork chop, shrimp cake, egg cake, shredded pork skin, a fried egg, rice and salad with pickled vegetables. All standards but these were all really well made and flavorful. Everything was very fresh. The egg cake was exploding with flavor and the shrimp cake was amazing; the pork chop was marinated in soy and tasted of five spice. Definitely a win! My friend had the pho ga, which was very chickeny and a little saltier than I like but most places are way, way saltier than this. The service was very quick and friendly (but we were there mid-afternoon and the place was not busy). Very clean and modern, comfortable. This is my first time trying this place out, I'm visiting from out of town for business. This place had great reviews and I was in the mood for pho so I decided to try it out. The atmosphere is really nice. Colorful chairs to brighten up the place. The entry doors are open to the outdoors today for some fresh air. The mention they have wifi but I didn't get a chance to try it out. The egg rolls were really good. I had the rare steak pho, it was ok. Upon entering, I decided to sit by an empty table by the window, however the hostess asked me to move because it was a table with a high chair nearby and that's where I guess they direct the customers with babies? I moved as requested but then another set of customers came in after me without a baby and the hostess let them sit there, no request to move or anything. The soup is pretty savory and I am not super thirsty after. My favorite is actually the chicken pho. It's so good for hangovers. They do give you decent amount of meat. I also do enjoy the grilled chicken fresh sprint roll. The chicken is super good with all the greens and peanut sauce. Now onto the bad things. The regular fried egg rolls are really bad. The outside is no the usual Vietnamese style egg roll. The inside is also not that great. It's just overall not good. The fried chicken wings are tasteless. However it's not known place to fried chicken, there are some really good ones next door at Bon Chon. But I was really disappointed when I was in the other night and got the rice plate. It is NOT worth the money. It gives you one small piece of meat. I think it had two small pieces of grilled shrimp when I got the combo. Everything else on the plate was just not good. Most of the space is taking up by a big bowl of rice and a salad. The taste was just okay overall, but really not worth the money for how little amount of meat they give you. Found our new spot for pho! One of the few places that offers seafood and vegetarian pho. They package the noodles and toppings separate from the broths so it's easy to take home. This is my favorite Pho spot! I've been going here pretty religiously over the past year. I really enjoy their vegetable pho with chicken broth (sounds funny, I know). The service is quick and the pho comes out incredibly fast. Great flavor and tons of food for the price. First, 5 stars for their beef pho. Their broth is rich, deep, balanced, and so so so flavorful. Some pho joints emphasize the meat aroma or individual spices, like cardamom or clove, too much, leaving the taste unbalanced. Pho #1 consistently delivers a good experience here. Their bun bo hue is also excellent, with excellent broth and generous portions. The reason for subtracting 1 star is because their other options are a bit weak, IMO. The seafood and chicken soup and pretty much all their grilled options are forgettable. Price-wise, food here is comparable to options in Mountain View and Los Altos, and a little higher than San Jose. Service is excellent. He truly is an epitome of what Customer Service is about. He always checks on us to make sure we are doing ok.
