The food is excellent but the service leaves much to be desired. My last outing here were with my neighbors. I explained how good the food was but explained that service can be slow. Well that was a bit of an understatement. It took almost twenty minutes after being seated for our drink order to be taken. So we took advantage and placed our appetizer order at that time. We patiently waited for twenty minutes or so for drinks and appetizers to arrive. However, the drinks arrived and the two orders of egg rolls arrived but not the two orders of spring rolls. My waiter said they would be out shortly. Ten minutes later, he came back to the table and said they were sold out of the spring rolls. I was not happy because only two other tables had spring rolls. He could have let me know sooner and I could have ordered more egg rolls. After the appetizer debacle, we placed our main course order. It took much longer to come out but I can understand because at that point the place was busy. However, when our food arrived my wife's rice and pork dish was lukewarm. My neighbors shrimp platter was the same. I ordered the beef pho it was delicious but warm. My neighbors husband ordered the pork pho and it was lukewarm. I am a patient customer but after four visits to this place, that was my last. I did not complain but I did let my tip speak for itself. That being said the food is really good. Also the young lady who waits tables is much better than the young man. He really shouldn't be in the front of the house servicing diners. I guess I'll be heading back to Tasty Pho located in Pinellas Park, who's service is exceptional and food is incredible. And of all the years I have dined their, they have never run out of spring rolls. It's a thirty minute ride but it's worth the drive. read more

Pho 99 provides a classic Vietnamese dining experience focused on Pho (soup based) dishes that are simply delicious. The dining room is actually European chic in design. The owner and staff are courteous, efficient and attentive. I love Vietnamese spring rolls and theirs are the real deal. How would I know? I ate them whenever I could while serving in Vietnam. It didn't look like your run of the Mill Vietnamese restaurants that are small and run down. This place has beer and wine displayed behind a large bar backdrop. The manager or owner stopped by tables to check on people. That is interesting and refreshing since customer service and followup at your table is typically lacking in these Asian establishments. HORRIBLE SERVICE! If you're going to come to another country, you need to learn the mannerisms and culture of the country you currently live in. We Americans expect timely service. Walked in at 6:30 on a Friday night for a table of 2, pretty empty as tables were leaving. We waited for a server to come to us for about 10 mins. We got waters and ordered. ONE HOUR LATER.... almost to the dot, 7:34 we asked where our appetizers were??? They were brought to us that next minute, but we ordered spring rolls... we had only asked where our food was when we noticed THREE tables who sat long after us were served their appetizers and even their entrees. Ridiculous. The owner brought us the appetizers and said "okay sorry here you go". We enjoyed them very much at that point because we were starving. Then another 40 mins goes by until we received our entrees. Also very good.... but ridiculous for the restaurant was not busy but they only had 2 servers working. We also witnessed 3 or 4 people come in and out to pick up to-go orders who waited at the bar for about 15-20 mins each (very upset) to receive their food so late. The price was high and I don't think I'll return when I can try other Pho places in town. As an owner of a restaurant, he should have taken at least our appetizers off our bill. He did not. We never saw our waitress after she gave us our waters and took our order. We were there for over 2 & 1/2 hours. We will not return... it was just a table for 2.... how long does it take? I also asked for a to-go box.... the lid was not made to fit the pint container so the owner wrapped it in a bag. It got all over my Audi Q7 as I drove home. Poor service. Poor timing. Poor quality. I came here upon recommendation from my Vietnamese friend who raved about the Pho broth. And boy was it tasty! I ordered the Pho Dac Biet which is a hodgepodge of all different parts of the cow (tripe, meat, tendon etc). Normally, when I order pho, I drown it in Sriracha sauce until it taste like Sriracha-flavored pho. But for this bowl, I added my usual amount of Sriracha...but it still tasted mainly of the broth. My daughter and I have been picking a new to us restaurant about once a week. This week we picked pho 99. (Not sure why they call it pho 99. ) My daughter is a vegetarian and I have food allergies so every new place we eat is always an adventure. She was able to eat a pho and I could order off menu with ease. We asked for stuff that was not on the menu and they did not hesitate to make it. The staff was friendly and polite. The food came out fast and tasted fresh. We ordered one appetizer two meals and a pho to go. The bill was 37 dollars. That's not to bad for sarasota. Wife and I love this place. We got hooked on pho and other Vietnamese years ago. When we moved to Sarasota we tried a few places but they were pretty meh. Then we hit Pho 99, and never looked back. The pho, of course, is spot on. So delicious. We've tried many other dishes including some of the obscure and authentic stuff and it's all really very good. I try pho in almost every town I visit. When i passed this location and saw it was no longer a Starbucks but a Pho 99, I was stoked. EVERY aspect of this visit was perfect. The ambiance/decor is clean and fresh and modern, the service is cordial, and the pho is one of the best I've had. The dish of side additions (basil, bean sprouts, jalapenos, lime) was absolutely fresh. The broth was complex and balanced, the noodles were EXACTLY right, as was the beef and the tendon, and the presentation (dishes/colors) were pleasing. I had the Vietnamese coffee to go, and it was robust and sweet, not sickening. I saw another table getting the egg roll lettuce wraps, and they were beautiful. Crisp, fresh romaine leaves. I wish I lived closer. This would be a frequent lunch. As it is, it makes my chiropractor visits even more enjoyable. read more

Recently, I had passed this unassuming restaurant in a strip mall, saw some modest signage about Grand Opening and made a mental note to try it. I was in no hurry because I assumed it was a Vietnamese restaurant serving steaming hot soup during a particularly hot Florida fall. I gave it a try for lunch yesterday and was absolutely delighted. It's a small but bright modern restaurant with a counter and plenty of lunchtime seating. Since I was alone I asked first to see a menu, saw it wasn't too pricey and took a seat at the counter. The menu took a little figuring out because the menu is a list of dishes and selected photos of some items came in a separate laminated menu also listing specials. The photos turned out to be a nice touch because, unless you're well acquainted with Vietnamese cuisine, you cannot easily figure out the dishes from the traditional names. I ordered Chicken with Lemon Grass on Vermicelli and regular (i.e., not milky Thai) iced tea. First came the tea which was a surprising preparation - they pour some normal looking tea into a glass of ice and top it off with water. I asked if it from a tea concentrate and I was told, no, that's how it's made. I was dubious because it looked watered down compared to full strength regular tea I'm used to. However, the taste was delightfully refreshing and flavorful like green tea. Off to a good start. The counter seating left a little to be desired, however. The counter overhang is not deep enough and you have to virtually do a split or sit side saddle on the stool in order to get close to the food. More leg room should have been designed. A heaping bowl of lemongrass chicken, vegetables and Vermicelli was served with a little pitcher of clear thick sauce and a variety of spices to add to taste. I dabbed a little hot relish into the pitcher and poured it on. There was a lot of food. It was very well mixed with mint leaves, lemongrass broth, thin julienne strips of carrot and an absolutely delightful mix of flavors. I thought that the Vermicelli would be overwhelming because it looks like it filled over half the bowl. But I was happy to find there was a layer of diced lettuce on the bottom level - another nice touch. The chicken was outstanding in this dish, even if the chunks should have been better severed - I had to rip some of them into smaller bites with my chopsticks or just gnaw off a bite and return the rest to the bowl. But they were cooked to perfection, meaty, plentiful and compatible with the seasonings in this dish. The Vermicelli was trimmed to size so you don't need to wind it into a ball on your stix spaghetti style. Less steamy than the soup also on this menu, this was a perfect dish for this 90 degree Friday afternoon. It is much fresher and cleaner than most Chinese food available in the area and even much of the Thai food around that I do love as well. I left with a small takeout bowl of my leftovers for my wife to sample. We each tucked into the dish just before bedtime and the flavors virtually exploded in our mouths - so refreshing and tasty. I highly recommend this restaurant. They serve beer, and maybe wine but don't hold me to that. See you there. read more

Fantastic authentic Vietnamese food served with enthusiasm and great energy. The papaya salad and spring rolls were fresh and healthy, the flavor of the food not overwhelmed by unnecessary spice. We had a chicken dish and soup and loved both. The menu is compact and doesn't overwhelm you with 200 forms of deep fried rice. Stopped here on our way home from Tampa and it was a great choice. Food was delicious and service great! We started with the Vietnamese style egg roll. Our waitress advised us to roll it with the romain lettuce and it was delicious. I had the bun grilled chicken with lemon grass and my boyfriend had the pho with sliced and well done beef. This is so far the first restaurant serving the authentic way. 4- Location- Pho 99 locates on a prime location on Clark rd, expense rent, normal to add on a dollars or two on each dish. 5- Chef point of view, Great restaurants should offer great food, Good customers service, ambience, food presentation and location would be a plus. This is the best Vietnamese food I've eaten in 20 years. The last time I had food this good was in a place named Pho99 in S Plainfield NJ So I asked the Waitress, and indeed it's the same owner. It's funny , but it was the food and not the name that tipped me off. Here you get the Vietnamese style egg rolls served authentically with sides of fish sauce, fresh mint, and Romaine lettuce leaves. You add a few leaves, and fish sauce, then wrap the egg roll in the lettuce. Delicious. I always liked their pho with a beef/onion broth that's heavy on flavor and light on salt. There are generous slices of beef. There is a condiment dish filled with lime slices, fresh basil, fresh jalapeño slices, and bean sprouts, you add these to taste.
