My husband found this place on yelp and wow so glad he did! I had the most delicious lemongrass bahn mi. This is the best bahn mi I've had....the best being Saiguette in NYC but this was excellent! Why? It's all about the bread-it was warm and crusty and soft on the inside. So fresh! There was a ton of beef in this sandwich. My only suggestion is to have more sliced cucumber (I think there was one little circle slice.) Cut it long wise and put more in please! We also had the shrimp summer roll which was fresh and substantial. Jonathan our server was so friendly and nice. Great service. The restaurant is very clean, including bathrooms. I think this place is relatively new (opened up in the last year or so). I had no idea that there was a pretty decent pho place right next to my house! I usually have to venture to Edison, NJ to find any good Asian food, but this is quite a nice surprise! It's located in a small strip mall neighbored next to a Domino's pizza that I used to eat religiously as a kid... glad my taste buds have evolved. The inside is small, but quaint, very low key. Staff is friendly. I got the pho to go and I was really impressed with the flavor. Not the best pho I have had, but for a local spot, it might be the best in the area. S-8 bbq pork bahn mi (sandwich) was perfect, except that the hot peppers were off the charts hot for me, but it adds a lot of flavor. Catch-22. First visit yesterday and I'm impressed. The shrimp roll was fresh and crunchy with lettuce, carrots and vermicelli in a tender wrapper. I would have liked more herbs, cilantro or mint to punch up the flavor but the peanut dipping sauce was excellent. I bought a barbecued pork sandwich for my husband and he said it was very tasty, The bread was soft and chewy and the meat was flavorful. It's 1988 on a hot summer day in NYC and I'm craving my usual once a week favorite baguette in Chinatown. It's under the Manhattan Bridge with its noisy, thundering subway tracks next to Sun Sing Chinese Theatre. The shop is run by an older lady toasting each baguette perfectly one at time. Only 1-2 patron(s) can fit inside. What makes her Banh Mi different from all the ones I have ever tried is some sort of sweet chopped-up BBQ like mystery meat. All the components are perfect with each bite. I always get it with a bottle of cold soy milk. And the price...only $2.50. Fast forward nothing have come close to that until Pho & Baguette. This is a new business in the Milltown area where I usually do my Target shopping. A Yelp pic of their baguette had me saying to myself...I can just tell that this sandwich looks delicious and I was right. The bread was the right ratio to the meats. The amount of the pickled accompaniments of carrot and cucumber were just perfect. My fave was the pate, I can never get enough of that. Each Banh Mi is about $9.99, a bit pricey but hey, it's not the 80s anymore. I decided to try three of their baguettes before writing this review and each one has been well-constructed and had me eager to take bite after bite. It says a lot when it's a new business and you see tons of people dining there and doing take-out. I can see their sandwiches flying out of the kitchen. Please hit up their pho dishes as well, the portions are generous and the broth is tasty. Don't forget to finish off your meal with their Vietnamese Coffee. And a final shout-out to the staff. Was in the area and my sister was hungry so we decided to try this place based on the good reviews. We came around 4pm on a Sunday and we were the only 2 inside. The place was nice and cozy. We sat down, menu was given to us but the girl never came back to ask if we were ready so my sister waved to let her know we were ready. She took the order and came back with the iced water, utensils, plates, etc. We ordered the grilled pork chop and the shrimp roll(summer roll). We were expecting the appetizer to come first but the pork chop came out first. No biggie. We ordered the grilled pork chop expecting it to be the typical grilled pork chop with grilled marks and the grilled taste. It came out looking like it was just pan fried with onion straws on top. I didn't like it, I thought it lacked flavor. The fish sauce tasted really watery too! I felt like I was dipping in water. The summer roll was really good though, it was warm and fresh and the peanut dipping sauce was tasty. The waitress never came back to check on us. And we also had to come up and ask for our check. I ordered delivery from this place with Uber Eats. Overall the food was alright. Nothing too special. I ordered a large create your own pho with rare steak, brisket, and meatballs. My friend ordered the regular pho with filet mignon. I was underwhelmed with the size of the large container. When I was taking the food out of the bag, both containers felt the same weight. I weighed them and lo and behold, they weighed the same amount. Both the takeout pho soup containers had the same amount of soup as well, so I don't know what I was paying the extra two dollars for. The pho overall was alright. My noodles looked like the dredges of the rice noodle bag, all the noodles were extremely short, I could never get a good slurp. That, or it was just because they overcooked the noodles extremely. Even with the noodles in a separate container, every time I tried to pick them up with chopsticks they just fell apart. There was absolutely no need to chew the noodles, they were so soft. The meat portions were also pretty small, I got two whole meatballs, 3 small pieces of rare steak and 3 pieces of brisket. We also ordered the Shrimp Rolls. The peanut sauce was delicious, but it was too bad our rolls completely fell apart upon having to peel them away from each other. Mom and I shared a very pleasant dinner of a combination plate of pork, grilled shrimp, and a spring roll over vermicelli noodles, plus an order of buns with grilled chicken. The front of the house was very clean and attractive, accented with a white textured wall on one side and large framed photos of Viet Nam on the opposite wall. One young server was handling all of the tables, plus a prodigious rush of takeout. Resulting delay didn't bother us, but some of the take-out customers seemed a bit aggravated over the estimated pick-up time of their electronic orders. The food was great! Got bbq pork baguette, spring roll and pho for my daughter. We went shortly after opening hours, about 11:30. Service was okay, but I'd give slack since it's new start to business. For examples, I got my sandwich within 5 minutes of ordering but my daughter didn't get her pho until 35 minutes later (the waitress was counting tables and I noticed she gave spring roll to a large family table... no big deal, they probably ordered same thing but then 15 minutes later the soup I ordered was also going to the same table - I had to raise my hand to let her know we had same order and been waiting 35 min). Also, I ordered soda but didn't get it so asked to cancel it. Again, they just opened and it was their grand opening that day so I didn't fuss or worry about it. The first time I got the shrimp and pork roll it came with fresh herbs and lettuce, and this really nice, flakey wrapper. First the herbs vanished from the dish, but it was still excellent. Yesterday I ordered and the flakey wrapper was replaced by a thick, generic looking wrapper and the quality of the filling seemed to also have been compromised. My partner and I went here for the first time last month and had a magical experience. When we walked in, we noticed a pair of airpods on the ground. So, we picked them up and gave them to the waitress incase whoever lost them came back. We sat down, ordered, and a few minutes later the owner of the airpods show up! He was super grateful, thanked us a lot, and left. The food, of course, was absolutely delicious. We had pho and a banh mi. The portions were perfect and it came with some veggies on the side to add to the broth. After our meal was done, the waitress told us that the man who lost his airpods PAID for our meal! Pho and Baguette is a fresh and welcomed business to the Milltown and East Brunswick area! So happy to have this authentic Vietnamese restaurant in the sea of fast food options. We've purchased take out from here on a number of occasions and it stays delicious through the ride home. Bahnmis are delicious- we've had the traditional, bbq pork, and the lemongrass beef sandwich. All fantastic. Recently I have expanded out to trying their pho and it's as good as those I've had through my Vietnamese friends and nyc restaurants. Great portion size, soup is not overly salty. Lastly, their Vietnamese ice coffee is to die for! Awesome drink that when drinking brings me back to my college days in nyc. Perfect in every way! Everything about this place screams cheap cheap cheap. It seems like the owner's intention is to charge a lot, but spend less on quality of ingredients, giving patrons paper instead of glass side plates while I find myself having to scrounge for thin/small napkins and they have only 1 staff taking all orders, serving all foods and attending to all take out orders. Pho broth is too salty. Noodles are sticky. They not only taste but also look cheap. You want to savor the broth but instead i found myself asking how much more of this do I have to put up with without feeling like I completely wasted my money? The meat in the sandwiches are also overly salty and taste cheap and look low-grade, however bread was I guess ok. It should be a glaring red flag when food is too salty bc then imo they are attempting to cover for poor quality while also compromising on freshness. Sadly I'd be surprised if this place is still around in a year. I had to skip out on going to my usual go-to for absolute wonderful Vietnamese spot simply bc I was curious so at least the one saving grace about this experience is that now I know I can avoid this place and stick with old faithful.
