Despite this listing (as of today) stating they are open on Sunday, they are in fact not open on Sunday. The dark interior and paper "now closed on Sunday" sign on the door clued me in pretty soon after I had driven 15 minutes to eat here. Authentic hole in the wall find perfect for lunch or casual dinner. I was very impressed by my first visit here. The staff were super friendly and attentive. The food came out quickly but I didn't feel rushed to give up the table even though they were busy for a week day lunch. I ordered the Dac biet pho and it was the best pho I've had in metro Boston! The broth was so flavorful and delicious. Everything was super fresh and I was impressed by the cuts of beef they used. The cleanliness of this establishment also stood out to me. Everything was extremely clean, even down to the littlest details. For instance, it looked as though at each table they had freshly cleaned the tops of the siracha and other bottles. My pho was cold...the meat was not fully cooked. Seasoning reminded me of boat noodle soup- this is not what a real Vietnamese pho is supposed to taste like. We had the Scallion Pancake, Tai, Gyoza, and Moody Street Noodles. I loved it all especially the scallion pancakes. It's always hit or mis if a fried food will be soggy or not with delivery. I like more crunchy than chewy. These were damnn perfect! Husband said the Tai was a 3ish stars. (Also another thing tough to transport, Pho). The noodles were good but I wish they had a bit more curry. However the shrimps were super fresh. Steamed Gyoza were great, very tasty. I was really excited to try this place. It has a great gluten free menu and was highly rated. I placed my order with door dash and then realized that I forgot to ask if they use MSG. I called them after my order was placed to make sure it was safe to eat. Unfortunately, according to the person who answered the phone on 10/5 around 8pm, they put MSG in everything. I am highly allergic to Msg (think anaphylaxis). It is very frustrating that restaurants still use this stuff. I picked up my order having already paid for it and put it in the refrigerator for my husband to have for lunch. He got to enjoy his Pho that he ordered. I had to spend another $15 on dinner at another restaurant. Dinner for 2 cost almost $50 because I could not eat what I ordered. I am very disappointed. I ordered the pork chop rice plate here and it was practically inedible. The corners of the pork chop were so burnt I thought I was going to crack a tooth. It tasted as if they had recooked this piece of meat. I also asked for a side cup of soup and they said they don't offer that with the rice plate. I have been able to order side soup at EVERY Vietnamese place except this one... The pho face biet was "ok". The broth is darker than I would like. Came here again and the next day.. it was a hit and my other kids loved their pho ga. Their crispy rolls are very good too and they give you 4. Way better than pho 1 restaurant and they didn't charge automatic gratuity but they were so good we couldn't help but give them 20% tip! I'm sure we'll be going here often! So glad we finally tried it. Their bo kho was perfect, tastes homemade like how I normally make it and my husband and girls enjoyed the pho. Customer service was great as well. Vietnamese. Thai. At least 100 different options. Every single one sounds intriguing. How the pho do I choose what to order? Well I've got some advice for you, bro. When you just don't know, go with the pho. On a whim, I ordered the Chan Chua with tilapia. Unlike similar spots I've tried, the seafood options (salmon, tilapia, shrimp) don't cost more than the chicken. So I'm obviously going fishing! Some of the more standard pho dishes on the menu have different size options and pricing (small, medium, large), but unfortunately the more exotic soups just come in one size. And this size is LARGE. The steaming bowl of Chan Chua is loaded up with thin noodles, basil, pineapple, tomato, and chunks of fish in a sweet and sour tamarind sauce. The tropical elements blend perfectly with the broth, which tastes light despite the mound of white noodles taking up 3/4 of the bowl. Don't forget to personalize to your palate by loading up on the spicy chili paste, dried pepper flakes, and two different types of peppers hanging out on your table. Add a fresh crunch by sprinkling some more basil, bean sprouts, and lemon. While you're add it, squirt on some sriracha and hoisin sauces. It's your meal. Go crazy! There's really no way to go wrong. (Except if you can't handle spice. Then you may just die). To offset the hot and spicy soup while still in keeping with the tropical flavor theme, I ordered a coconut bubble tea. This came as a smoothie, which was unexpected, and tasted fresh and sweet. Unfortunately, some of the bubbles were a bit underdone, as they were still hard in the center and too chewy, so my straw began to avoid them toward the end. Regardless, the flavor reminded me of the coconut ice cream I've eaten from street carts in Puerto Rico. Divine! Needless to say, I finished my tropical, spicy culinary adventure phocking stuffed of soup and smoothie. Upon arriving home and splitting up the leftovers, I discovered that I had enough wriggly noodles for FOUR additional lunches. I've been coming to Pho & Spice a couple times now and I'm still not sure why I bother coming back. The food here is not great, the portions are small and the service is sub par. Crab Rangoons: There was hardly any crab in the rangoon. It was a bit overcooked and the sauce was bland. I am a sucker for crab rangoons but this ain't it fam. Chicken Wings: I bet they're previously frozen wings. No flavor whatsoever and duck sauce with wings? That's interesting. The two didn't pair well. Also I got a chicken wing that was barely a wing. Hardly any meat or skin on it. I feel ripped off. Pho w/ Meatballs: Its a little on the bland side, they gotten better over the years but it's definitely not on my favorites. Orange Chicken: I asked for to prepare it spicy and it wasn't spicy whatsoever. The sauce was too sweet. They add too much pineapples and oranges and hardly any chicken. The menu listed as "crispy" chicken but they added too much sauce to the entree that it became soggy. Its odd that an entree doesn't come with rice, I thought it was a staple that all entrees comes with an option of rice, soup or salad? If I were to come back, it would only be if my friends wants to go eat here. There aren't many Vietnamese restaurants in Waltham/Weston around. I wouldn't label Pho and Spicy as a Vietnamese restaurant...you know it's going to be suspicious when they have Thai food on the menu. read more

Came here a lot during college to fulfill my crazy pho cravings. I've had so many bad experiences here. The appetizers are very underwhelming as the portions are teeny tiny and greasy. As for the pho, the broth tastes like MSG. Because my beloved Bun Bo Hue tasted so salty and weird, I usually opted for the Pho Dac Biet, which didn't taste authentic... but I was desperate for pho. I do like their Spicy Basil Pad Thai with Crispy Chicken - it was full of good flavors, but sometimes, the chicken wasn't crispy. I don't recommend the Thai iced tea. It is way too sugary - seriously to a ridiculous extent. The Vietnamese coffee is really a hit or a miss. I stopped ordering it altogether because it was too much of a gamble at $4.50. If you are a fan of bubble tea, do NOT order it from here! The boba tastes like rubber. Takeout can be very slow - I'd recommend ordering at least an hour before delivery hours end. I really only got this when I had to pull nighters before a final, so maybe they were just busy nights? read more

I've been here many times and had delivery twice. Food - I've eaten both the Thai and Viet foods on their menu, and I must say, they should have picked one and focus on that. The food isn't bad, but if you're craving pho (like I do every month or so) then this place will not "hit the spot". It will kinda remind you of what pho is. The crab rangoon here isn't bad, the Pad Thai is just so-so (sorta bland), the vermicelli dishes has way too much noodles and not enough of anything else, the banh xeo had very little meat and shrimp but LOADS of bean sprouts, and the Banh Mi is just OK. Not a place that I would rave about, I go because it's only place I can get pho that's close to my house. Service - I've always eaten in except for two times where I had my son and I didn't want to get him all dressed just to go down the street for food. The service here varies. The older lady there is really nice. The gentleman that served me a few times was really good, I never had to ask for water and he never hesitate when I ask for more sauce (I use a lot of fish sauce). There is one waitress I had the last three times I was there really annoyed me. She's much younger so I'm not sure if this is her first job in food service or not. But she would roll her eyes when I ask for water or more sauce. When I order and asked, "What's in the mixed vegetables?" she would let out a huge sigh and list a few and say, "and some other ones." If you had a food allergy she would be as informative as a rock in the mud. Delivery - I've ordered for delivery twice here, never again. The first time I did it, it took over an hour! I live 1 mile away. Having a 4 year old asking why the food is taking so long, while working, is really irritating. How did I know it was over an hour? I ordered, went on a conference call for an hour, got off and the food arrived about 10 minutes later. That was the first time. Second time I was hesitant, but I did it because I couldn't step away from my computer. This time took about an hour AND they got my order wrong. So from that moment on, I don't order delivery anymore. Ever since Pho & Spice opened up, this has been my go-to dinner (or even lunch) spot when I don't have anything at home and/or just don't feel like preparing anything. I can honestly say that being from an Asian background and even from NY, where there is a huge Vietnamese population/restaurants, that Pho & Spice hits it right on the spot! They are more authentic than most of the Pho places I've been to in Boston's Chinatown and surrounding Boston neighborhoods. This is clearly tasted in the Dac Biet. You don't find authenticity like this, even in the city, where Pho & Spice have "everything" in the soup. When I say everything, I mean tendons, tripe, beef frank/brisket, as well as the typical rare eye-round. Most pho places in the Greater Boston area only have the eye-round, but nothing more exotic beyond that. The soup base is definitely one of the best I've had! While I agree this place still has some kinks to work out such as packing items for takeout/leftovers, I've seen many improvements in the many months I've been coming here. I hope Pho & Spice is here to stay for a long time since this is something Moody Street has needed for awhile and some real Asian influence. I should have known better, when I ordered "Bo luc lac" (shaken beef) which is a trademark Vietnamese dish always served with white rice, and the server asked me, "do you want rice with that?" What arrived was a bizarre Chinese-looking version, with tiny half-inch cubes (usually it's done with 1" cubes) of overcooked almost-black meat sitting atop a big mound of stir-fried veggies that included, even more bizarrely, yellow SQUASH. The real deal is served with just shredded lettuce, tomato slices and cucumber slices. The "Banh Xeo" (Vietnamese savory crepe) was also a little odd due to the over-oily crust actually having a little bit of curcurum in it (an Indian spice never found in VN cuisine), but due to it being generously stuffed with lots of pork and shrimp, wasn't bad at all. The actual "Pho" (rice noodle soup) was passable in terms of ample portion size and no shortage of meat, but the liquid part was virtually water---I know that 90% of Pho restaurants don't actually make their broth from real bones, but this was really weak stuff, which no amount of brown sauce could salvage. The upsides of this place: relatively pleasant environment, good and quick service, and the aforementioned ample portions. The prices while not as good as in Chinatown, are not terrible either. Afterwards I asked one of the waitstaff where they were from. It turns out it's really owned and run by Thais, which explains everything. If I ever come back to this place, I will be sure to order only the Thai dishes. Probably should've asked them about their national origins when I first looked at the menu and noticed the mix of cuisines. Ordinarily, I'd give them a 1 or 2 star rating. But since they are after all Thai, and also located out in the boonies (Waltham), I'll be generous and give them 3 stars. read more

An unassuming place but, it's great for an affordable Thai/Vietnamese meal! I got the Mi Wonton as a to-go order: Pho Ga broth, yellow wavy noodles, wontons, and pork for about $11. You are allowed to place to-go orders at the counter, too! What I liked was their attention to detail for the to-go order -- they placed cardboard under the containers so they won't spill on my walk home. Broth was still hot when I got home and it was a great comfort meal to have on a Spring day when it's cloudy and raining. Noodles were easy to separate when the hot broth was added and the pork and wontons were delicious as well. I highly recommend this place for when you are craving Thai or Vietnamese food! read more

I will not be returning. Since it will be easy to be megative, I will start with a positive. The Pho soup itself was tasty though the supposed rare steak wasn't and the beef balls were like rubber. The supposed summer roll was mostly shredded lettuce and the lettuce was brown and wilted. I could not finish them. The tables are worn and though clean.. the color of the tables etc. Very much reminds one of old diner setups that were already out of date in the 70s. read more

If pho is in your name you should have good pho if nothing else. Ever since Covid hit, their food quality went down the drain. The first time i got pho after phase 2 when restaurants re-opened i noticed it was oddly bland but not terrible. From there it has been getting worse and worse. Now i ordered pho the other day and the pho is just unbearably salty. I didn't want it to be this way. I only post bad reviews when a restaurant does not deserve to be as highly praised as it is. I want to support local businesses like pho and spice especially in times like these but don't expect me to go back after getting food that is inedible. I was hungry and very excited to order food from Pho & Spice this past weekend with my partner but unfortunately we were incredibly disappointed with the quantity and quality of the meals we received. I ordered the salmon teriyaki lunch combo and my partner got the tofu and eggplant lunch combo. Upon opening the food, I had been under the impression that the sides of veggie gyoza and veggie spring roll would be more than a singular piece of each that was incredibly small. The seaweed soup that came with the meal tasted like chicken broth with water. The salmon in my meal was super overcooked and the veggies were soggy and did not taste great. It was a very cold February evening and we needed some serious Pho noodle soup to warm up. Pho & Spice hit the spot! We started off with some Cha Gio ($5.95) (crispy eggs) 4 in an order. Which were hot fresh, and perfect appetizer to start. For Pho, I had the large Dec Biet, which was a beef soup with rice noodle, rare steak, beef tendon, and tripe. ($8.95) The soup was so rich in flavor and most likely the best Pho that I had ever had. One thing that I did not care for was that the tripe was not cut up fine (larger pieces) as well there was some beef bone marrow jelly that was floating around and I did not find that appitizing. Hubby had the chicken Pho Ga which was super good as well. We also got the Vietnamese sandwich ($4.50) which we shared and it was one of the best sandwiches that I ever had. The fresh French roll, sliced pork, ham mortadella, cilantro, and marinated cuke, carrot, and onion, made this the perfect sandwich. Ordered out today - decided to try some new dishes so I got Thai fried rice and crispy pad Thai. Boy.. it was bad. Both dishes were OVERLY sweet. All I can taste was sugar. The crispy pad Thai was not what I expected.. they used the Chinese yellow egg noodles. The noodles were all broken into small pieces so that's not what I'm use to eating. Very dry and way way way too sweet. And when I say sweet, it tasted like I was eating sugar. The fried rice was nothing special but actually boring and again way too sweet. Not sure what's going on in the kitchen today but the cook must be having a sugar overload party. Being that this is one of 2 (Thai/Vietnamese) restaurant in the area... Delicious food and great service! We placed a large delivery order for our company lunch, and it worked out great. Order contained pho (chicken and veggie) and noodle dishes. All packaged carefully, including soup ingredients to make sure they were not too heavy or hot to carry. Order arrived early, and the driver helped me bring bags inside.
