Ok so I've tried pho places all around this area, and I keep coming back here. The ambiance is nothing special, but their broth and pho is one of my favorites. Sometimes there is inconsistency when I come here with the quality of the meat or seafood, but usually it is good. I think what makes a great pho is the broth. And this place has pho broth with lots of layers of flavor. Plus, they serve mango sticky rice and boba tea now!!!! Love the makeover. What's not to love here! read more

So delicious!!! All of us ordered drunken noodles with either chicken or shrimp. The noodles came with so many veggies, a lot more than other places will give you for drunken noodles. We also got the fresh limeade and Vietnamese ice coffee which were personalized by these cute doodles! Just another ho-hum Saturday night at home when my girlfriend and I were browsing Grubhub.com for takeout. Lo and behold, there was a pho place that just opened in Waltham. Given that Allston's a long trek for me, a restaurant local to me that delivers sounded too good to be true. Was it as good as Pho Viet at the 88? After a cursory glance, the significant other said she wanted a banh mi sandwich and calamari just before returning to the couch and catching a re-run of sweaty muscled men pretend to wrestle on Friday Night Smackdown. I had a small bowl of pho tai and basil duck pad thai. The driver called about 40 minutes later and said he was outside. and I stepped out of the porch to find him. No delivery in sight so I had to call back. Shortly after, I saw a guy sprinting around the block with takeout in tow, which was kind of amusing. He thought he was delivering to the community playhouse up the street. At any rate, the pho was very good. The soup broth was heartily rich and the rice noodles had the right consistency and texture. My only complaint was the lack of sriracha sauce with the soup. The sandwich was pricier than other places and not quite as packed with fillings, but the girlfriend liked it. The calamari appetizer on the other hand was unexpected in that it looked more fish stick than calamari in presentation. The breading had alot of crunch to it and the taste/texture was more whitefish than calamari. The pad thai variation I ordered was labeled two chili peppers, but I didn't find it particularly spicy (perhaps for more American palates).. Aside from a more pepper-y flavor, it was rather average pad thai, though they didn't cut the noodles as short as most other places do. I'll have to go back and try some of their rice dishes to determine whether or not this place will get a fourth star, but for now I'll give this place three stars. I'll definitely be back for the pho, though I'm disappointed they do not offer pho sate. read more

The staff is always friendly, the food comes out fast and, when I bring it back to my office and start eating it, I always have at least 2-3 people comment on how good it looks and smells! They have the best crab rangoon that I've ever had and, because of extremely generous portions, I always end up bringing some home for dinner. This is my go-to lunch place because it's conveniently located but also because their prices are pretty good. I usually get the summer roll with chicken and yellow curry with white rice. To top it off, I usually get their Thai iced tea. Their food is good enough to order constantly and know what I will be getting. Their summer rolls are filling and the curry always has the same fresh veggies. Their Thai iced tea is always good and I love the cute little sharpie drawings they have on the cups. Overall, their food is quick and easy service. I've had consistently good meals from here. The only thing that bothers me is when you go to pick up food. There is no clear space for people to stand and wait for their food if it's taking extra time and the servers don't communicate with each other so I'm being asked the same question over and over again. This spot was great before everything closed down for COVID. Got takeout here two times afterwards but each time the pho dac biet soup was watered down but still edible. Got it again today to give it another chance just in case the past two times were an off day. Instead of being watered down, the pho was extremely salty to the point where it was inedible. Tried calling them to let them know that it was way to salty so they could fix it before more was ordered (phrased it off as "Hi, just calling to let you know, the pho was really salty") and they just hung up. This is a small, casual pho restaurant. Very utilitarian and more than a bit tight. But it's quite clean and the service is friendly. The spring rolls were what I'd call average, but average around here is really very good. Certainly fresh. Their soups are also quite good. However the duck pho was nothing less than amazing. A lunch time drop in finds easy Parkin along moody street which can get busy. Quick attentive service unfortunately does not offset the rather bland, loveless food. An order of summer rolls ($5.95) filled with pork is tasteless and is comprised mostly of shredded iceberg lettuce. So much lettuce that all other flavors are lost in toe crunch or bursting lettuce. The pork Alice is tiny and completely absent from the taste of the rolls. These summer rolls are not finished. The mi hoanh Thanh ($9.95) skips the promised scallion entirely and has no crispy pork skin. The pork slices are dry and brown, also lacking any flavor other than that of cardboard. The noodles are over cooked. The broth is weak and has none of the rich, deep spices found in many comparable spots in close proximity. Overall, overpriced and flavorless - fine in a pinch but but not worth a trip with so much other excellent Vietnamese in the area. read more

I continue to frequent this business because of the flavor and and freshness of the food. I ordered take out in 5/6/22. The pick up was between 818 and 838pm. Expected as much because it was Friday night. I got there about 10 mins after the pick up window. Always friendly and accommodating. I had time to pick another take out order for my daughter. Did that and finally got home a little after 9pm. Guess what, the food was still hot to the touch, seaweed soups, Bangkok paradise were so delicious and veggies were still crunchy. Stopped in for an early supper and ordered the Shrimp Spicy Eggplant. It was delicious! Generous portion, nice fresh vegetables, with lots of basil leaves, in a wonderfully sweet-hot-mellow sauce. Rice is extra, but you'll want it to soak up the yummy sauce. When they say spicy, they mean spicy. Pho & Spice is small, clean, cheerful, with hand-drawn culinary posters on the walls and lots of natural light from the big front windows. There was soft, upbeat jazz playing. There's a TV, but it was tuned to a cooking show and the sound was off. My meal was served very quickly. I'll definitely return. read more

Came back after coming a few times in the past. Not sure if the chef was changed but the food was not edible this time around. It wasn't bad in the past. We had to pay and just leave. The pho broth was so off it had some strange taste to it, like the beef went bad with an added weird sweetness... Which isn't what pho should taste like. The pad Thai was even worse. The sauce was so vinegary and sticky it was nothing like pad Thai. It almost tasted like sweet rice vinegar mixed with hoisin sauce. It's unfortunate because the food wasn't bad before. The broth for the pho dac biet was flavorful and hot. Portions of meat were plentiful. Overall one of the greatest bowls of pho i've ever had. However, as their fame rose, the quality of their food inversely fell. Such a shame. This place has really become a hit or miss lately. After the first debacle, I forgave them and came back to give them another chance. I felt like I owed them that for all the good times. Came back three more times really wanting them to give me the same great experiences I had the first few months they were open. Sadly, each time I returned was worse. It was either the waitress would screw up my order and bring something else out. Bring the dish I want but make it way too spicy when I specifically asked them to make it LESS SPICY. Get horrible stomach aches and the runs because of the Crispy Chicken Pad Thai. Or the kitchen would pump the food out terribly slow. This is a close location from work and easy ordering on Foodler or Grub hub. We order from this place at least once a week for the past few months as I have become obsessed with Pho. The food is good and consistent. It's sad that we will not be coming back due to the bad customer service we received today. We placed a 5 person order and picked it up. I take some responsibility as we should have checked to make sure all the parts of the order were there before leaving the restaurant however it wasn't easy to do at that moment because the bags were all stapled shut. When we got to the office, we realized that the rice was missing from one of the lunch specials. We called to ask if they would deliver it since it was left out of the bag. Not only did we get a no, we got some attitude. They gave us a hard time and basically said we were lying. They wouldn't delivery the rice they forgot, they wouldn't credit back my co-workers credit card for the charge. They did offer a $1 credit but we had to tell them the next time we ordered. I doubt that was going to happen. So sorry Pho and Spice, we won't be coming back. read more

I am so sad to rate pho and spice to lowly. I've only ever ordered from them and the food is great, super tasty. Solid pho! However recently the delivery service has been absolutely awful. A little while ago when the delivery arrived the driver was very rude. Complaining of low tip and demanding a higher amount while withholding my food. The last time I ordered from them, and that was certainly the last time I admittedly had forgotten the tip on foodler. But before I could add the tip in person, I began to receive a hostilely worded life story, and complaints about his job and income. I do not believe that a tip is mandatory but a courtesy and reward for work and and job well done. Having worked for tips in my life I understand how much they mean to the recipient. But never in a personal or professional setting should people speak so rudely to each other. So unfortunate. Terrible driver. read more

This review is for the bubble (boba) tea ONLY. Ordered a taro flavored bubble tea today. What I received was more like a slush (icey yet smooth) than a typical milk tea, but I like slushes too so no real harm done there. Unfortunately, upon trying the drink, I found it to be lacking in flavor. Taro is a flavor I order regularly at various establishments, but this did not taste like any taro I'd ever had before... it was overly sweet and tasted like vanilla flavored milk. In the end, it was so sweet that I had to throw it away about ¼ of the way through - it was definitely too much to stomach. Overall, $5.00 wasted. Won't be going back for bubble tea anytime soon. I would not recommend stopping in here for bubble tea. If you do, definitely do not order the Taro flavor. Other reviews seem to suggest the coconut isn't quite as terrible, but I won't be the one to test it. read more

I was craving Indian/chicken tikka masala at 3PM and head down to Moody street to try one of the Indian places. I get there to find out that they all close between 3 to 5PM. So, to Pho & Spice I go. I am not disappointed!! I started with the tom yum goong with shrimp, and it was delicious. It had a clear sour note to it, and the shrimp was done just right. You could tell that the person who made it cares about how the soup is received. Usually, at most places, the shrimp are way overcooked. Even though all the other customers seemed to be having the pho, I really needed my curry fix. I inquired with one of the waitresses about the difference between the curries b/c there was no explanation next to the list, which just read "red", "green", and "yellow," but she was unable to tell me much. So, I tried again and asked another waitress, and she told me that red was more about the spice and green was more about the flavor. This waitress was very helpful and accommodating to me and my baby. My rather large baby carriage couldn't fit into one of the aisles, and I asked her if I should fold it up. She told me not to bother since it would be more work for me and allowed me to leave the carriage in the middle of the dining room. So, I got the chicken green curry with white rice and devoured it!! It had a very nice helping of veggies, especially bamboo shoots. I also really liked the eggplant. I wish there was more chicken though and would consider asking for a double order of chicken in the future. Again, the chicken was not overcooked. You can tell there is someone who really knows how to cook in that kitchen and really cares about how the dishes taste!! I ate everything! And even had a Thai iced tea. Big fan of the veggie options here. I am a fresh roll aficionado and theirs (with tofu) do not disappoint. Also love the Pho Chay and Lemongrass Tofu. Pho & Spice perfect for takeout, but have a decent dining room as well, with easy public parking in the back. I think they might have redone their dining area recently. While it's small, it's bright and comfortable. The seating also makes for amazing people watching on Moody St. On my last visit, we (along with the entire staff) watched a woman try to parallel park her mammoth SUV for upwards of 10 minutes. I am almost in disbelief as to what happend. I called my order in and when I went to pick up my order only 2 of the 3 entrees I ordered were in the bag. I asked the individual who took my order why one was missing - perhaps it was still in the kitchen? She just told me that she cancelled it. Needless to say I was shocked. She then conveyed it would take at least 20 minutes to prepare the order that she had cancelled. This was my third visit and though I really enjoy the Pho and veg spring rolls, The veg spring rolls have a lot of taste - (even better than Le's in Harvard Sq) I am not sure I can take the lack of service. The prior two times I ordered in person and my entrees were as requested though on both accounts took longer than conveyed to prepare. I would advise to not order over the phone unless you want to take the chance of not having your full order at pick up. My boyfriend and I try to eat here at least once a week! Their pho tai and dac biet are both PHO-NOMENAL, with a flavorful broth rivaling those in Chinatown! For additional spices, try the Bun Bo Hu and Bo Kho - each featuring succulent pieces of beef - so rich and filling! We also get the crispy rolls, which are consistently hot and fresh, and the Vietnamese hot coffee: absolutely delicious. I don't know why I came back here, especially after vowing not to return. My craving for pho coupled with living nearby led me here, and yet again I was disappointed. I came for lunch with the BF, and he ordered Som Tam and a Beef Sub, while I ordered a Pho Dac Biet. Our waitress was new and seemed a bit unfamiliar with the menu. There were two other tables in restaurant when we arrived. Despite this, it took forever to get our food, considering how empty the restaurant was and how simple our dishes were. The BF got his sub after 20 minutes, and his salad came another 15 minutes later. The sub wasn't good -- the beef was overcooked and very dry, and there were more onions in the sub than beef. (The banh mi at Pho Viet's in Allston are much much better btw), but the salad was ok, not too spicy. Meanwhile, I still hadn't got my food yet after 45 minutes of waiting, so I looked around to flag our waitress down, and realized the gentleman sitting behind me (who came in 10 minutes after me) was eating something that looked awfully similar to a bowl of Pho Dac Biet. I looked closer and it was indeed my very order. Even another couple who came in 20 minutes after me were already enjoying bowls of noodle soup...which makes me suspect the waitress accidently gave my order to the guy behind me. When I flagged the waitress down she immediately had an "Oh Shit" look on her face and said "Oh. It'll will be out soon". She was hardly apologetic, and at this point, I asked for it to go since i was starving and refused to sit there for another 20 minutes to eat. She came back 10 minutes later with the food wrapped up and just quietly handed us the check. To sum it up: mediocre food, slow and UNACCEPTABLE service. Never again :( read more

Ever since I've moved to Waltham, I've been missing good Pho. I was walking down Moody St on Monday night and noticed Pho & Spice. I had to do a double-take to make sure I saw what I saw. I was excited to finally have a Vietnamese place in Waltham. I was even more excited after trying the Dac Biet Pho...it is very good! The broth is excellent and they are generous with the meat portions. The server was very friendly as well, always with a smile on her face. The disappointing Belmont and Newton Pho places left me going to Cambridge, Allston, or downtown for Pho. I finally have somewhere close by. I'll be back to try their other Vietnamese dishes and I'm looking forward to having the Pho again. read more

I've been coming here about once a week for the last few months or so. I'm a big fan of the food here. I particularly enjoy the Pho and the fresh rolls. In fact, I'm pretty sure the Pho here is the best I've had outside of Lowell or Boston proper. The spring rolls appear to be made to order at least 95% of the time. There was one time on a Saturday that I came here and I felt like they were rolled earlier in the day (the wrap was a bit dry.. not nasty Magda dry, but dry) in preparation for the lunch rush. I'm a fan of the Bun Tom and it's comparable to one of my other favorite Vietnamese restaurants. A few other favorites are the Vietnamese sandwich and the Banh Xeo. The Vietnamese sandwich is perfect for someone with a small appetite. It's about 6 inches long and not overly stuffed. The ingredients are fresh and it's a nice light lunch during the warmer months. Now, Banh Xeo is apparently considered a Vietnamese crepe. I made the mistake of ordering the Banh Xeo as an appetizer as it appears under appetizers on the menu. Let me tell you, this is not an appetizer, it's more like a 6 egg omelet jam packed with 2 cups of ingredients. This "appetizer" could easily be a full entree. For the fans of Laotian food, you'll find Larb on the menu. Now I know my Laos friends ("sa-bai-dee") love them some Larb and why wouldn't they? I love it too! For you brave souls looking to try it for the first time, it has a unique taste, you might not like it. The combination of the spices can sometimes give it a smell that isn't for the faint of heart. Most of the time my service is better than average. I've had a couple of strange experiences here with the service. I could knock them a star for it but honestly it's not really their fault. I'll explain and let you make up your mind on if it bothers you or not. Several times I've come here with just my wife or maybe a coworker. The table arrangements are either 2 or 4 seats per table. I'm a big guy and these are small tables. If no one is in the restaurant I'll ask for a 4 person table and they will smile and shake their head no and point to a 2 person table. Within 5 minutes of this happening a single person will come in and just sit at the 4 person table. They don't ask them to move, they just go ahead and serve them. This has happened at least 3 times now. This is annoying, but probably my fault for asking permission on where to sit. It's a small place with about room for 15 or so people. I would say for comparison it's a little bigger than a 1 car garage. They also offer delivery in Waltham, but I would advise against getting the Pho delivered. The noodles will be one big gelatinous blob by the time the food arrives. Go with the Bun Tom if you're going to get delivery and save the Pho for when you and a friend can go in and sit down. Winters coming, and nothing beats a hot bowl of Pho and some great company. I'll see you there.. but the fresh rolls are on you! read more

A bit unassuming on the street. I actually drove by several times looking it. Tiny place, a dozen tables...maybe? The staff was quick to spring into action as I was the first to arrive after they opened for lunch. HUGE menu with lots to choose. Went for the Crispy Veg Spring Rolls (tofu), Pho Ga, and Green Tea. Rolls came out and five stars for them, tofu fried crisp, tightly wrapped and fresh - nice presentation as well. For some reason I got the HUGE SUPER SIZE SWIMMING POOL of Pho Ga. They offer three sizes - not sure what was thinking.....we could have all had some. It was good, well pretty good. Full of noodles but not a lot of chicken. Does that sound like a complaint? Don't mean it to be but I'd rather have a good portion of chicken and less noodles. Flavor was very nice The staff was attentive, clean place (washroom was clean as well). Here's the kicker; I travel a lot and stop in Pho restaurants it's always nice to see 'locals' stop in. Around noon they flooded in - and in they came. Clearly they come back again and again. Guy behind me was quizzing the staff, "now what did I have last time??" That says a lot of the place on a Thursday around 12:15pm or so. Good cheap pho! Soup came out super HOT on a cold rainy day. It was packed full of flavor. They also give you enough noodles and meats. They make a killer peanut sauce so get the crispy spring rolls.
