Decent pho place located adjacent to the San Francisco premium outlets. This is one of the first places I've tried eating at which is within earshot of the outlets. Pho Ao sen has definitely grown over the years and this newly opened location is a little chicer than the others. The ceilings are high, there's a nice mural of young woman on the wall and the plants/dimly lit nature of the establishment is as good as you're going to get for a moderately priced Vietnamese. The high light of the show was the spring rolls, the presentation and portion size was larger than I would've anticipated. The bun bue hue was also tasty, less earthy and more crisp than some of the others I've tried in my tenure. The pho portion for $17 was decent but not great. Overall, I liked this place but not enough to make a detour specifically for it. It's clean and hygienic which I can appreciate. read more

Loved this restaurant! It's full of color, murals, and plants - it's a great place for a meal with either family or friends. The prices are a bit steeper here than the usual Vietnamese restaurants but the food quality is tops! I had the grilled chicken bun $19. Pho Ao Sen is my favorite Pho/BBH restaurant in the East Bay. I've searched far and wide for a good Vietnamese spot here that contends with East San Jose restaurants, and it exceeded my expectations. Not only was the quality good, but the taste was exactly on par with how I'm used to Vietnamese home cooking. I have a new favorite pho spot!!! My friends and I came here for a weekend dinner and I was very pleased by the warm reception and friendly service. They were out of classic milk teas sadly but my Thai iced tea was delicious and I love that it was served in this mason jar style glass. Our spring rolls were fresh and came out looking like art, and my steak and brisket pho was flavorful and the meat was sooooo tender. This may be my favorite pho broth I've ever had!! First impression of the place is its upscale decor. The space is spacious and open with elegant lights and wall decorations, which makes the restaurant quite inviting. My family ordered the spring rolls, egg rolls, a beef pho, and a chicken soup pho. I was surprised by the large portion of the spring rolls and the taste was fresh and delightful with the peanut dipping sauce! Egg rolls were also tasty and crunchy. The portions for the pho were relatively smaller...but the flavor of the soup was bold and pho noodle cooked just right. Overall very well done dishes. The high ceilings helped with the overall ambiance and it was nice and cool inside. I decided to stray away from pho this time and try their vermicelli noodle bowl. It was so yummy! The lemongrass pork was perfectly cooked and not overly seasoned. My fiance got the bun bo hue, which he thought was delicious but could've been spicier. He was a little disappointed because they don't give pork blood with the bun bo hue here compared to the Oakland's Pho Ao Sen. We also got the egg rolls, which were perfectly crisp and had a delicious filling. The service here was alright. The waiters seemed a little inexperienced but still did a decent job serving us. The best pho restaurant we have been to. The Korean rib plate was Devine, the beef baby pho was so delicious. The house boba tea was on point. The decor and ambiance was very nice. The costumer service was amazing. They tried giving us a military discount that amounted to 10 cents off instead of 10 percent off. They tried and it was greatly appreciated. The young server spent most of the time on his phone at the front counter and made no effort to check in or ask how we were doing. We were completely ignored and I had to get up and go to the front just to pay. Is this the same Pho Ao Sen as the one in Oakland? Should have went for the pho, because I came here and ordered the Bun Bo Hue instead. The only memorable thing about the soup was that it was pretty spicy, otherwise, once you get through past the chili oil, the soup itself didn't have a lot of flavor. Also the BBH was missing some of the essentials, pork blood and pork cake, it didn't have either. Price was $19 for a bowl, and for the size of it, definitely not worth it. I'll probably give the pho a try next time to see if it's still as good as the one in Oakland. Their Nha Trang Grilled spring rolls were pretty good. I liked the sauce. Ooof. This place was disappointing. We were around Livermore Outlets and were craving some pho on a cold winter day. We found Pho Ao Sen on Yelp located in a relatively new plaza across the east side of the outlets The interior of the restaurant is on the end of "elevated Vietnamese" with chic colors, fancy light fixtures, and cool wall art. The prices are above average for Vietnamese cuisine as well with dishes ranging near or above $20. Coming from Orange County, I'm all for elevated Vietnamese, but unfortunately, this place was a huge miss. I ordered the Pho Ga (chicken pho -- $17) and the menu picture was very misleading. Under the Pho Ga menu option, there is a photo with soup and a side of chicken (see photo). But in reality there was a no side of chicken, as that is a DIFFERENT menu item. Confusing! Despite that, the dish was just... ok. Broth was fine but there was very little meat. Also, I was expecting them to at least put a variety of chicken (white meat, dark meat, legs, thighs, etc.) in the broth and not just thin strips of chicken breast. No flavor. My party also ordered other dishes (rice plate and beef combo pho) and left underwhelmed. The presentation of the dishes were nice but the flavor and depth of Vietnamese cuisine just weren't there. Overall the experience felt more like looks over quality. There is also a 3.75% surcharge if you use credit card. It would have been nice if they were more upfront about this (no mention of it by the waiter or menu), especially if you are coming with a large group. The only mention of this fee is a small note at the cash register where you pay that can be easily missed. Overall, this place was NOT WORTH IT and felt like a bit of a money pit. You can find more authentic and flavorful Vietnamese cuisine elsewhere for ~25% cheaper. read more

After a day at the outlets, we were craving some pho so we decided to check Pho Ao Sen out. The pho was very artificial tasting. I didn't taste any typical pho broth aromatics - star anise, cinnamon, cloves, etc. Just very one note beef broth flavor. Nothing wrong with some beef bouillon flavoring, but I expect more than that when I come get pho at a restaurant. We also left extremely thirsty from the broth, so take that with what you will. The bowl was also quite small portion wise for the price ($16). I always get Pho Tai (rare beef) and the noodle/beef portion overall wasn't a lot. The beef was also on the cheaper tasting side. I'm accustomed to having sliced onions in my pho, but when I asked the server he seemed confused and said they only have green onions in the kitchen, and could not give me sliced onions. There is also a 3.75% credit card surcharge unless you pay in cash. Ambiance was fine, seems more upscale, but overall just not on par with other local Vietnamese pho restaurants. read more

Wow honestly this is one of the best pho places I've tried...and coming from San Jose this really means a lot. We got 2 phos and the broth was to die for!! So flavorful!! I heard about this place through a friend because she loves their Oakland location and raved about their pho here. She said it was just like their Oakland spot so I had to see what this was all about :) Upon walking in we were warmly greeted by the owner. The decor was lovely. Pho (3.5/5): The pho bowl was smaller in size than I'm used to. It tasted good but I wasn't blown away. My friend hyped it up way too much. lol. I think I need to take my friend out to the 209 to try the pho of Stockton and Tracy. The veggie plate only had 1 lime slice and hubby and I both ordered pho. Like, are we supposed to share? lol. so I asked for another lime slice. When we were leaving, we saw folks had large pho bowls so I guess they also offer a bigger size. Chicken Wings (3.5/5): We were told they're a must. They looked good and right away there was a unique aroma to the wings. I asked if it was fish sauce and they said yes. They were okay but lacked seasoning for me, it needed that extra umph. but we ate them. Good to try once. Vietnamese iced coffee (2/5): I was excited for this b/c I love me some cafe sua da and got it to-go. Unfortunately it missed the mark for me. Right away the color was very dark, almost like chocolate so I knew it'd be too strong. I've had it at other Vietnamese restaurants and it's a creamier lighter color like caramel. A guy brought it to me and I told him, "it's strong", and he goes "yeah, I like mine like that". uM, okay lol. that's you friend but this is myyyyy drink. The cup was only filled 60% (see pic)so i asked if they could top it off with milk. The gal came back and had also added crushed iced. It helped a little but it was still too strong. I got home and added some walnut milk to thin it out. much better but still a bit steep for $5.50 for a very small portion. Their sauces were in cute bottles and not the one they actually come in. One included the standard hoisin, but then they had a siracha and this one other spicy sauce. That spicy one was absolutely delicious. We were putting it on the wings. I wish I knew what it was. Service: We weren't checked on during the meal but towards the end the owner came by to check in and see how everything was. She was a friendly lady and the girl taking our order was her daughter and friendly as well. The staff was very slow and took a bit before they sat us... even though there were plenty of open tables. I thought this might've been the same Pho Ao Sen from Oakland but it wasn't. We ordered #15 which is the steak and tripe listed for $16. The waiter didn't bother asking what size we wanted. It took a while for the food to come only to find out it was a small/regular bowl. Apparently, only #1 and #2 which are the Dac Biet/Special Combo is the large size with a dollar more so $17. The regular-sized bowl was pretty small and wasn't filling at all. A regular here, I come here often for there pho combination special (number 1). They have been very consistent in their quality and service here. Always greeted as soon as I get in and is usually seated pretty quickly during the weekday. However on weekends it could get pretty packed. Their pho broth, meat quality and size are good.
