Ever since I stopped by for my very first time back in the spring, I have only ordered one thing from Pholicious - their bun bo hue. Believe me, I've been wanting to try their pho as well, but every single time, their BBH speaks to me. Simply put, it is a comforting hug in a bowl, filled generously with tender slices of meat, homemade meatballs, cha, pork blood cubes, and al dente noodles, all topped off with piping hot broth. It is served with a mountain of fresh herbs, and I always add extra chili oil and sate (that they keep in the fridge) for that extra oomph of flavor. While this location does not serve their BBH with a pork hock, I really don't care at all, because of how cohesive their bowls are every single time. Those homemade meatballs are really an element of the dish that I have not found at any other restaurants, even at BBH restaurants in the bay. Located right off Grant Line in the Sheldon area of Elk Grove, the restaurant is not big, but still has ample seating. The private parking lot has never been full when I've eaten there, but I also have never gone on a weekend. I usually enjoy coming when they very first open, and am always seated immediately. During lunch rush, I have noticed it can get pretty busy, with patrons dining in and to go orders alike. The owner is so nice and I rarely even look at the menu since I always know what I want. I don't usually order drinks as I like to get matcha in Elk Grove, but the one time I got a Thai tea, it was perfectly balanced with a good strength to it. Their menu on the whole is small, but still varied, so there is something for everyone's cravings. If you follow their Facebook page, they will announce weekend specials as well, so stay tuned for those. One day I swear I will try their pho, but for now, Pholicious is one of my top spots for BBH in the Sacramento area. One of my favorite local spots in Wilton for authentic Vietnamese cuisine. Their egg rolls stand out immediately, the wrapper is incredibly crispy and flavorful, which is something not every Vietnamese restaurant offers. The filet mignon pho is another signature dish that keeps me coming back. The meat is consistently tender, soft, and high quality, making it hard to order anything else. The Bun Bo Hue is rich, flavorful, and well balanced, with a very generous portion of meat. You can really tell they take pride in both the quality and consistency of their food. I've always seen this restaurant on my Yelp search for asian food. Didnt realize it was kinda out here in small townville. I'm exaggerating but thats what it feels like. I only noticed it because I was going to Willows post office...dont ask long story. So I stopped to finally try this restaurant. I didnt eat there because I had to get back to work. But the restaurant is a good size if you want to take family or friends. Its on the main road so you have to make sure you dont pass it. I ordered crispy rocket shrimp and a banh mi sandwich with chicken. If I knew that the sandwich would be so big, I would've split it with my daughter. I actually got her own banh mi too. Cozy spot here, near Wilton off of Grant line Road. This is definitely my pace of environment. I arrive with a few guests and we were able to have conversation without shouting at each other like so many other restaurants. This place is very clean and nicely decorated. The staff was friendly and very attentive to our needs refilling our waters as needed. The food was also very delicious including the photo I ordered and the spring rolls. Nice that there's a pho place near Wilton. (Pholicious borders Elk Grove and Wilton.) I tried the following: Pho Filet Mignon (P2), Crispy Egg Rolls (A1), and Spring Rolls (A2). I thought the pho was a bit on the pricier side for the portion of noodles. While the broth was on the oiler side, but the meat was very tender. The rolls were fine, but did not stand out from other places in my opinion. I very much enjoyed their chili oil - to me, it seemed to have a heavy garlic presence, which I liked. Friendly service. Coming from a rainy/hailing day in Tahoe we were looking for a pho spot on the way home. Found this spot and the reviews were promising. It's in a very random area deeep in Elk Grove and far off the freeway. We ordered the umami wings, flavor profile was viet fish sauce and it was pretty good, tasted even better when we squeezed lime on there. It was saucey, crispy, tangy and just the right amount of fish sauce, the added lime pulled all the flavors to balance it out. We also ordered the P2 pho filet mignon - I really liked the broth! I decided to come here on New Year's Day with my friend around lunchtime. It kinda sucks that their location is really in the rural part of Elk Grove, but they seem to still get a lot of business, which is great! Their parking lot is on the smaller side. The restaurant is also pretty small, but at the time that we came, there was still space. They did seem to fill up quickly after us! The Elk Grove calendar also had a coupon which encouraged us to make our way out here. Our deal was a free appetizer with the purchase of two entries. We opted for crispy egg rolls and it was delicious! The egg rolls had the wrapper that is the delicate nest kind, which was crispy. It came out fresh and hot! There were 4 rolls that come with a side of fish sauce. The fish sauce wasn't too fishy, which I enjoyed. As for the pho, we both ended up getting the special (#1). It had a fair amount of meat and noodles. I was pretty full after finishing it. The soup was hot, which is good. The soup itself was lacking the flavor that I would have hoped...it's not as strong, hearty of a pho flavor (this is coming from someone whose mom cooks pho!) Finally tried out this spot since we got some mail coupons it's definitely is further away from the house but glad the food was worth it. We got a chicken rice combo (come with grilled chicken, grilled shrimp and one of the egg rolls). My bf enjoy it and it was a lot of food. Also got the egg roll appetizer. They use a different type of wrapping that's soooo crunchy. Add a little bit of the pepper they got there and it was chef kissed. I also got a Hu Tieu Xa Xiu dry style as well. It come with a bowl of broth. We also got a pho broth on the side because the place is call Pholicious after all both broth was great. Really nice deep favor. The Hu Tieu Kho is ok. The sauce could be stronger - though I added like a lot of pickled jalapenos to it and then it was great Service was quick and easy. You'll go to the counter to pay. Take our order quickly and the food maybe take 15+ min to come out - I wish everything could come out together, or if the appetizer could came out first but I guess that's not a big deal. Me and husband just wanted to try this since it's just few minutes from the house. We ordered to go.. Crispy Spring Rolls- it's okay it's not as crispy as we had from other restaurants . The tofu spring rolls were good and the peanut sauce was amazing, I wish I knew how they made the peanut sauce because it's damn good. Also, not sure why my husband ordered the tofu spring rolls since I'm sure there was probably a nem nuong/grilled pork version of the spring rolls but whatever tofu was fine anyway, but now I feel like I have to try the meat version next time. Okay but the chicken wings--excellent and kudos to the kitchen on making these crispy and sticky good tasting. Chicken wings were 5/5 Bun bo hue - their spicy beef noodle soup is a bit different from the version I'm used to but it was still pretty good. There's plenty of lemongrass and they had these pretty good meatballs in them. I would rate the bun bo hue 4/5 Pho ga - Chicken pho broth was really good but their noodles could have been a little better but overall the dish was still good. The service was quick, we were checked on, and staff were friendly. It's a small place inside and for coming on a Wednesday for dinner, they had a good amount of tables filed but they quickly cleaned each table as customers left. On the bright side, melt-in-your-mouth beef shank! - Umami bomb tofu: super tasty with the different layers of sweetness and saltiness, but the rubbery-skin style of tofu cubes are used here (not my fave), and with them being deep-fried, the corners are hard and sharp making the cubes kinda fussy to eat. I listened to the hype and decided to finally give this place a try and this place is REALLY ALL ABOUT THE HYPE! I've had the privilege of not only trying this place not just once, but multiple times throughout the entire month as it was that addicting to eat here! You can find this spot at the very end of Elk Grove on the Grant Line road section, hidden far area from the busy city. The small restaurants seats decent, but what they make up for in space, they sure do not skimp out on flavor! The staff is super friendly and are always willing to share their passion on what goes into their food. The pho broth is absolutely flavorful. Clean, aromatic, and full of umami. I typically would converge all the sauces onto the bowl, but this was a broth that needed no additional preparation. I do recommend for spice lovers to try their homemade fresh chili oil as it packs a punch, but they also have dried chili oil in the back that you can request too. A major highlight is their eggrolls! I do not know what wrap or noodle they use to make these delicious pieces, but I've ordered an embarrassing amount that I'd gladly order all over again. Such a random spot for this pho restaurant but they seem to be doing well. The place was full for a Wednesday at dinner time so that's really great for them! Luckily we didn't have to wait for a table when we arrived. Service is efficient and fast. There's a little bit of everything on the menu but we came on a cold day so pho was the obvious answer. The summer roll with shrimp was very fresh and well constructed. The shrimp was marinated in some kind of sauce. Five stars. The filet mignon was amazing. I had such a great experience here. The food is good overall, but the standout for me was the Bun Bo Hue. It's aromatic, rich and probably one of the best I've had in the area. The sauce smells incredible, you can tell they made the sauce in-house, not that generic stuff you grab off the shelf. The umami bomb tofu was the biggest surprise for me. The flavor goes all the way through, not just sauce on the outside, but seasoning that actually deeply absorbs into the tofu. As for dessert, their homemade flan is a must. It's silky, rich, and creamy with a slightly bitter coffee that balance out the sweetness. This place is always busy! I loved having their pho! Big portions and good flavor, the broth is more sweet and savory! I wish the broth was a little more hot when it came out! Bun Bo hue was pretty solid! I am sure it's pretty authentic with the fish paste undertone flavor, but it's not really jam. It was very tasty nonetheless! It was nice and hot when served! So I've been shamelessly coming here at least once a week thus far, asking my family let's go eat and ending up here lol. I picked up my man from the airport and we headed straight here for pho since our son was sick. We got 5 pho's and 1 spring roll. We came in and our order was still not ready so we decided to sit down and they gave us complimentary Thai tea and let us try the flan since we were asking if it leaned more towards Filipino style flan or if it was different. The flan was amazing, it was light and had a coffee syrup over it. Highly highly recommend! We ended up also ordering the fried egg rolls because we were hungry. The egg rolls were amazing too! So I love Pho! So naturally I have been to several Pho establishments. I come here and look at the menu items and the pricing. The prices are a bit higher than the other establishments I go to. So Hubby and I get the house Pho and the vermicelli dish we typically get. No spring rolls though. :( My first sip of the broth and the flavor is that of the naturally boiled up broth, not the kind that has copious amounts of salt and msg that leave me super thirsty needing a gallon of water afterwards. The flavor is super yum! I haven't had broth like this in a hot minute. The steak meat is a better quality than the usual meat used for most restaurants, and as a result the meat has a better flavor, which of course lends to the better flavor of the broth. Even the vermicelli dish had pork that has less fat than other establishments. The price point is appropriate considering the higher quality of food and flavors. If you are lacking tastebuds and cannot differentiate higher quality meats, go elsewhere. But if quality and flavor are important to you, try this place out! read more
