The only pho place I'll go to in Irvine! I have tried many other pho in the Irvine area and this is the only place that doesn't make me thirst for water afterwards. The place has been established for a while my parents have been bringing me here since I was a kid. My go to order is the special combo pho and egg rolls. I've also tried the dried vermicelli noodles during the summer and it was great as well. The price is a little steep compared to other places I've seen in the OC area but for Irvine it is acceptable. Dunno what happened recently, but I think maybe there was a management change? The quality of the food has degraded in my opinion, and service delivery sucks. Came here recently as I normally come here for my pho fix when in Irvine. Got seated. Waited for waters. Waited 5+ minutes for waters. Not very busy. Many servers. Still no waters. Got waters. Waited 10+ minutes for someone to take my order. Finally place order. Food comes out. Not my order. Wait for server to come by. Wait 5+ minutes. Finally I walk to front area to tell them the order is wrong. They tell me it's right. I explain to them I've been coming here for months now and this has never been the case. I get shot down. Paid bill, (had to wait another 15+ minutes for someone to come by to pick up the check). Haven't been back since. Kind of a shame. To claim to be the best pho in OC is a bold statement. Normally I eat pho in the heart of little Saigon. Today I needed a convenient meal while I was in Irvine and I was excited to try a new place. Unfortunately I was severely disappointed. The experience started with an extremely long wait to put in our order. Although a good bowl of pho should cost you under $10, i was willing to overlook the expensive prices as maybe this would be a more upscale experience. It wasn't. I ordered a dac biet. Really solid pho! I always go with the rare steak and well done brisket for my pho soups. I get the regular and I think that's a perfect amount of food! I don't taste MSG in their broth (unless they put a little) which is a plus for me. The broth is flavorful and not too salty. It'a clear and not too dark, definitely a clean and pure beef broth. A tad bit on the sweeter side if you're into that. They do skimp on the meat so might want to order extra meat on the side. they're a bit more on the pricey side compared to their cheaper competitors in GG or Westminster. Vermicelli Noodles: My go-to. Definitely hits the spot. I like that they don't use that nasty, dying shredded iceberg lettuce and bean sprout salad mix in this dish. I like to get the combo with charbroiled chicken, egg roll, charbroiled shrimp- so good! Their fish sauce is not too bad- not too salty and not too sweet. Broken rice: Also a hitter. I usually get the broken rice dish with charbroiled chicken, egg quiche (bomb), fried tofu, and shredded pork. You can't go wrong with this one. Egg rolls: Very close to my mom's style and recipe. I swear that I've reviewed this place before. This was my go-to pho place in Irvine when I lived there. The pho is good and this is coming from a Vietnamese-American who has eaten it all of her life. The broth is consistent and the flavors are true. There are a few sister restaurants in the area as well. I've been to the Tustin location and it is just as tasty. Pho is best on a cold, rainy day or when you're sick and can't stomach solid food. But for me, I can have pho for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The other dishes on the menu are solid as well. I've had their bun thit nuong cha gio (dry noodles with grilled pork and egg rolls) and it's delicious. The chicken and rice dish is really good too. If you are a pho place you have to master the broth. I ordered a rare steak large pho. The broth was flavorless and I was very disappointed because this was suppsoedly a 4 star pho place. I ordered the 4 egg rolls which were flavorful and tasty which saved the meal. The rare steak was chewy and hard to swallow. I left most of the steak pieces in my bowl when I got the check and left. I was just disappointed. And my constructive criticism would be instead of having 79 items on the menu why not master the main dish first. I guess I will have to search for better broth somewhere else. I will give them another chance though because I am not trying to put them down.
