Casual Vietnamese sit-down restaurant (used to be named Pho Bac, changed name to "three ladies" pho back in the 2000s). Consistently good phở and mì. The spaghetti basil is a kid favorite. They had to stop serving outside a few years back (landlord lease nonsense), and some long-time customers may miss the old setup, but there's usually enough seating inside anyway, and if you're so inclined there's nothing stopping you from ordering to go and sitting outside at the umbrellaless tables. Went here along the way while dropping my sister off at her college. This place is pretty good. We both got the well-done brisket pho, except I got the large and she got the regular. The sizes weren't much too different. My sis didn't even finish half of hers, and I basically forced myself to finish mine. It's very filling! And it was pretty good and served quickly. After a coworker of mine talked me into coming here today... seriously twisting my arm, she decided last minute not to order Pho because they only have beef broth. Shes a vegetarian and while other places have told her they have vegetable broth, Im not sure they do. Anyway... Ive had it three times now, and this was definitely the best of the three. I just dont know that I need it again. I cant explain why, I just dont love it. The Spring Rolls were good, and fresh. I prefer Chicken, but the only options were Shrimp and Pork together, or just Shrimp. I went with just Shrimp. I am super picky where I eat Shrimp so this was hard for me. My friend ordered the Vegetarian Tofu Spring Rolls then went next door and ordered some Mexican food as well. The Charbroiled Chicken was good, I am so picky with meat and get heaved out easily so I was glad I was able to eat this chicken. I had to borrow a fork from one of my coworkers to cut it, and also to eat the noodles and everything in my Pho, as I am Chopstick challenged. For real. So I was the white girl there with the fork. What. I did try the chopsticks, and just no. I cant do it unless its a big piece of sushi and its easy. I ordered before the snapping condescending rude girl, and my Pho came out after hers, so maybe I was doing something wrong being nice. I see how the flavor *can* be there, but by the way it tastes, they probably make a delicious broth and then water it tf down so they can sell more bowls. To claim to be the best pho in OC is a bold statement. Normally I eat pho in the heart of little Saigon. Today I needed a convenient meal while I was in Irvine and I was excited to try a new place. Unfortunately I was severely disappointed. The experience started with an extremely long wait to put in our order. Although a good bowl of pho should cost you under $10, i was willing to overlook the expensive prices as maybe this would be a more upscale experience. It wasn't. I ordered a dac biet. Really solid pho! I always go with the rare steak and well done brisket for my pho soups. I get the regular and I think that's a perfect amount of food! I love the tenderness of the meat and the broth is delicious. I don't think it's too hard to go wrong with pho and they make it quite well here. I eat here like once every month. When you don't feel like driving all the way to Garden Grove or Westminster this is the spot for good Vietnamese food (Irvine edition). Btw I'm Vietnamese and grew up with a Viet mom that threw down in the kitchen everyday so I know a lil sum sum about Viet food. PHO: Not like homemade pho but this will do. I don't taste MSG in their broth (unless they put a little) which is a plus for me. The broth is flavorful and not too salty. It'a clear and not too dark, definitely a clean and pure beef broth. A tad bit on the sweeter side if you're into that. They do skimp on the meat so might want to order extra meat on the side. they're a bit more on the pricey side compared to their cheaper competitors in GG or Westminster. Vermicelli Noodles: My go-to. Definitely hits the spot. I like that they don't use that nasty, dying shredded iceberg lettuce and bean sprout salad mix in this dish. I like to get the combo with charbroiled chicken, egg roll, charbroiled shrimp- so good! Their fish sauce is not too bad- not too salty and not too sweet. Broken rice: Also a hitter. I usually get the broken rice dish with charbroiled chicken, egg quiche (bomb), fried tofu, and shredded pork. You can't go wrong with this one. Egg rolls: Very close to my mom's style and recipe. Nicely wrapped and deep fried to golden perfection. I wish the filling inside was a bit more firm but it's doable. The flavor is good and addicting. They provide a side of vermicelli noodles, lettuce, mint leaves, etc. which I appreciate.
