A very nice place, decent food, clean dining room and excellent service from the staff. After having spent more years than I care to remember in California, enjoying Vietnamese cuisine at innumerable restaurants that ranged from cafeterias and sandwich shops to fine dining at the top end, it was an interesting surprise to find Vietnamese cuisine in New Mexico. Pho Bar is a decent place that falls midway along the scale, being good and enjoyable but but one or two levels don from fine dining. It looks like a fine dining establishment (for this area) so its a bit dichotomous but the food is certainly enjoyable and at least two veils above the cafeteria style Vietnamese restaurants. Sinh Tõ (Shake) Soursop (Guanabana) Although they call it a shake, its really juice in ice water with some condensed milk added) so it does not have the thick creamy consistency that we are used to, the ice takes up a huge volume in the glass so you get to drink very little product but if you are overheated on a hot day this drink will certainly cool you down ver effectively. I had the Soursop flavor which I enjoyed from when I use two travel in the topics and it was very pleasing to have t with a sit down meal. ------ Bánh Mì -#4 Bánh Mì Gà Nuóng (Chicken Sandwich) This is now one of the most recognized of Vietnamese cuisine in the US, probably surpassing Pho itself. Its essentially a Vietnamese take on a French baguette. Its served on a mini sized baguette shaped roll that is very light (its kneaded and folded many times to introduce a lot f air) so it reminds me of Wonder bread (I prefer rustic artisan breads that have a crust that is crunchy and a crumb that is chewy) bit that is how its made in Vietnam (according to my rather authentic Vietnamese friends) so the bread here is typically authentic. Inside the torpedo shaped roll is some sort of protein, in my case I ordered chicken, pickled daikon radish; carrots; cilantro; sliced jalapeños; cucumber and mayo. The secret to a great Bahn Mi is the unique herbaceous flavor profile that I have never tasted anywhere else. That's what makes the Banh Mi wake up your taste buds and entices you to keep enjoying this lovely delicacy. Unfortunate, Pho Bar's Bahn Mi just did not deliver on that department, it tasted more of an America sandwich than the traditional Bahn Mi's flavor profile. The bread does not have a crispy crust so it does not have that classic French baguette texture, nor does it have any noticeable flavor. I know they get their bread from a local bakery but I suggest that they get parbaked loaves then finish baking them to order so that we can have a more authentic texture (if not flavor) in our Bahn Mi. Its a good sandwich, I did enjoy it, I just would not call it a Bahn Mi because that sets an expectation that is not met. ------- Bún #60 - Bún Thit Gà Nuông Grilled Chicken Vermicelli Noodle Bowl This one should be labeled better. My wife ordered the without realizing that what they serve is a dry bowl with ingredients but this is not a soup. There are cooked vermicelli noodles, veggies and herbs but there is no liquid in the bowl. There is a tiny side bowl with a liquid that is intended for dipping but its a very tiny bowl so make sure you know what you are doing before ordering this one. Its is tasty, very well presented and enjoyable, just make sure that you know what you are doing before ordering this one. My wife did verify with the server that this is often made as a soup (filled with chicken broth) in other restaurants, this just happens to be a dry bowl. Ask first so you know what you are getting. Other than that, my wife liked this dry bowl a lot, it was fresh tasting and flavorful. ------ Giãi Khát - Trà Thai - Thai Iced tea Excellent. If you like Thai Iced tea then you will probably like this one. ------ Service is excellent, polite and everything was served at he same time, without errors. The server was happy to see us and helpful to answer all out questions. They didn't check on us until we were nearly ready to leave but that is not a bog deal since they really did such a nice job getting everything done perfectly the very first time. ------ I like this place, I think that with a few adjustments that they could get me to upgrade my review to 5 stars. read more

First experience at Pho Bar didn't leave a good impression, it was late and the service staff seemed bothered that I was there, the Pho was plain and not memorable and I wasn't sure if it or something else I ate later disagreed with me, so I didn't bother going back for a little over a year. I tried them again this past week and was much happier with the result, there are plenty of choices of meats in the Pho, three difference sizes and the service staff was helpful and friendly. I will definately go back. My wife had the Filet Mignon Pho and my taste test of the meat was outstanding, I had the more traditional selection of eye round, brisket, tendon sans tripe (not sure why anyone eats tripe) and sans meatball. It was good. The next closest Pho place is Siagon 2 which I think has better tasting broth, but much less options for meat in it. Thumbs up! read more

This is my go to place for Pho. When friends and family visiting from out of town, we will visit Pho Bar at least once, if not multiple times. They have difference sizes for their Pho which is nice for all. The egg roll and spring roll are yummy. I usually go with #30 and also #17 for eggroll. At times they can be very busy but the folks there are very personable. Will recommend for all. read more

No! Just No! I am relatively certain that they ran out of rice noodles and someone ran down to Walmart and bought some spaghetti noodles to replace them. The sprouts and leaves that come with pho weren't delivered with the soup and we had to flag down the server to get ours. It then took an extended length of time to get them so, the pho was cooling off that whole time. The broth was flavorless, required too much doctoring to make it tasty. Moving back to NM from Southern California, where we were about 15 minutes away from an area called little Saigon, we were worried that we wouldn't be able to find a Vietnamese restaurant as good and authentic as what we were used to. We tried a couple of other places in both Rio Rancho and Albuquerque and were disappointed. Then we found Pho Bar. This place is SO GOOD!!! All of the dishes I have tried are great. My husband loves the sandwiches and we both love the pho and rice noodle dishes. The kids meals are very reasonably priced, so it won't kill your wallet to eat here with the kids. The service is very consistently good and fast, believe me, we have eaten here a lot! I just love it, and my husband, who grew up eating Vietnamese food very often in So Cal, says that this is not only the best place in town but possibly the best Vietnamese food he has ever had. I LOVE this place and I have been spoiled with Vietnamese food in California. Their shrimp steak is great, so good in spring rolls and banh mì. I get the mushroom broth for my pho, and as a pescatarian I've never had better/more flavorful veggie broth! Larry is our server almost every time and he is so sweet and attentive. This was our first visit to Pho Bar, on recommendations of Vietnamese friends who rank this Rio Rancho restaurant in the top five or six among the dozens of Vietnamese houses in the Albuquerque area. We are less expert than our friends, but we will agree we had a mostly good experience and will say Pho Bar is worth a try. In a mid-afternoon visit, we opted to try a variety of appetizers, leaving pho bowls for another visit. The grilled beef banh mi (sandwich) was quite good, as were the fried egg rolls and a chicken noodle dish my lady had. She was particularly pleased that they provided a dish of very fresh Asian garnishes including basil leaves, cilantro, and bean sprouts. The avocado shake and Thai ice tea were flavorful and refreshing. The breaded calimari strips were just so-so. Service was good and the kitchen was quick, as well as clearly committed to using fresh ingredients. The flavors were all just right and nothing was over salted. Pho Bar is a large, clean place with plenty of room between tables. The atmosphere and decor are spare and simple -- unusually so for an Asian restaurant. In terms of food quality, breadth of menu, and attentive service, we rank it well up among the second tier of our go-to Albuquerque restaurants, and will give it a follow-up visit before long. read more

Stop in based on yelp reviews and we ended up in a location that once might have been a thriving shopping center. As we entered the restaurant we noticed a lot of tables open and maybe 6 tables taken with people dining. We chose the seat we wanted and were given the menu right away. I had viewed the menu online and already knew what we wanted. I ordered springs rolls and two large pho with beef. The spring rolls are a good size and were very delicious but had very little veggies in it. The pho was very good and we enjoyed the hot broth with noodles. Overall if I had no other choice I would go there again but it would be nice to be in a higher traffic area. On our particular visit there was a gentleman who came in intoxicated and sat at the booth. I believe it was the owner who kindly asked him to leave. He must have known the gentleman and it hard to see especially when you want to enjoy your meal. Wishing the best to the establishment in hopes they continue to stay open. read more

My favorite place to get a nice noodle soup. The friendly staff knows me and knows exactly what I want each time I come in. I have never had to wait very long for my food and I'm always very satisfied with what I get. I suggest trying the #43 with udon noodles. Recently in Phoenix and tried Pho for the first time. Tried a few places in Albuquerque but Pho Bar takes the prize! Absolutely delicious!!! Definitely will be back!! Went to Pho Bar for the first time yesterday. Ordered the egg rolls and they were great! Larger than most egg rolls at other places and there's 4! Ordered Pho Dac Biet and it the medium bowl was more than enough. But there were a lot of noodles more than anything else in the bowl and barely any broth. My friend ordered Nem Nuong and when it came out the meet looked pink and not fully cooked and tasted a bit sour and just not right. We did ask if we could get a different order but instead they just took it off our ticket. The service was quick. My wife and I have been coming here for the past four years. They never disappoint! This is our favorite place by far because of the quality of food they prepare. Bahn MI's are delicious and on point, spring rolls are yummy and tightly wrapped, and the pho is always consistently flavorful. By far my favorite place in Albuquerque/Rio Rancho for Pho and Bahn Mi. So delicious!! My husband has tried a variety of plates and everything he has ever ordered has been incredible. He's especially a fan of the short ribs. We have recently ordered the avocado, strawberry, and lychee shakes. These bad boys are creamy and oh so delightful. The service is always helpful and kind but sometimes they are overwhelmed and you have to wait a bit. However, it's worth the wait! Trust me. Pho is my go-to comfort food and this place never misses a beat. I literally have a smile on my face the whole time I'm eating my bowl. They have small, medium and large size bowls. The large is definitely LARGE and IN CHARGE. I ordered it once and I only was able to eat a fraction of it. A very small fraction. The small bowl is filling and oh so appetizing. I typically order the rare flank steak (pho tai) but now that I'm prego, I order the well done flank steak. Yep, every bit as delightful. If you are in the area - please try it out.
