Let me start this with I eat here probably once every two weeks. I love the food and the manager is a really nice, helpful guy. It's cheaper than most Thai/Vietnamese restaurants in Boston, yet personally, I find as one of the best in terms of quality. Interesting selection along with the usual, if you don't have something you like, I encourage just giving it a shot one more time at least with something different. I have a lot of vegetarian friends and when I need a safe bet for them to find something on a menu, this place always comes through as well. Great place for Pho. The roasted quail on the appetizers menu is unbelievable. I tend to usually go for the fried rice dishes as the portions are huge, cheap, and delicious. Their pad thai is top notch too. Excellent food and the staff is always very friendly. I love Pho Basil!! I go there at least once a month. So far everything I've tried is excellent, the portion sizes are very generous and its affordable. We came here for lunch on Saturday around 2 pm and were seated right away, but it took over 15 minutes for our server to approach us (after my boyfriend requested for someone to call them). She did not greet us, just asked what we wanted. We ordered chicken spring roles, an extra large pho with rare steak and Pad Gra Pow lunch. Spring roles were "eh" at best but the entrees were both delicious. Including drinks we came out to $29. But the service did not get any better throughout our time. On our way out, a server pretty much pushed my boyfriend aside to get by. The bad part was, I had seen this done to several others while we were there. Pho was bomb. Pad thai was the best I've had in a while. I am from thailand....so I am looking for real authentic thai food, this is it!! Chicken wings were crispy and flavorful. We came because of the reviews. I could maybe see why it might be good for the college crowd. I ordered the pad thai and got maybe two-three meals worth of noodles. I read the Yelp reviews and thought we were going to have some good Vietnamese/Thai food. Granted we walked in late but other patrons were seated after we sat down. First thing the waiter said was "the kitchen is closing". It was all rush rush rush. The food was delicious but all the waiter and waitress need to work on their customer service skills. I really hate going to a restaurant where I have to rearrange the table so it makes it easier for the waiter/waitress. Then what is the purpose of tipping. After 10 pm, a young Thai waitress asked "if we are done with the sriracha and hoisin sauce", I told her "not yet". Then she asked a second time but yet we haven't finished our dinner. We enjoyed the food but the service was THE WORST. The waiter asked if we needed to order anything else and I ordered mango sticky rice. The dessert came when we were only half way done with dinner. Were the workers in a hurry to go home for Father's Day celebrations or that is their normal protocol. Finale was when the same young Thai waitress asked if we are done with the sriracha and hoisin sauce for the third time, this was her exact wording "you are done with it, right?", no duh, we only had one plate left on the table. If she had proper restaurant customer service training, she should never address the customer that way. This place in consistently great. We have been there 7-10 times, and the food is always good. The prices can't be beat either - less than $30 for dinner for 2. The only thing we ever had that wasn't good was the crispy pad thai, but we see other people order all the time, so it must just be us! Great for take out too. read more

Pho Basil delivers amazing food time and time again. The service is fantastic (refilling water, checking for enjoyment, etc) and the food is really really great. The first time my fiancé and I stumbled upon Pho Basil we were suffering from colds and stuck to the noodle soup which was incredible. This time, we decided to go for noodles. I got the red curry chow fun, which was amazing. The sauce was spicy and flavorful, the veggies delicious and the noodles perfection. My fiancé got the drunken noodles, which were also delicious. The first time I came, I had Northern Thai style soup noodle, which was fantastic - I still remember the taste. But unfortunately, that was daily special never saw it in this place since. Then, I came back for other soup noodle, friend chicken with curry base stuff, excellent! My most recent trial was Tom Yam noodle, which is mediocre. This is a great spot! I had a lemongrass beef soup (Bo Hue) with rice noodles. The beef was of a very good quality and the portions were huge. I could only eat half of the soup. The soup said it was spicy, but I did not think it was that spicy (so, don't be afraid to order the spicy stuff). Extra hot sauce and a delicious sweet sauce (were on hand to adjust the flavors if necessary. The waitstaff were very friendly and did not try pressure us to leave (we were there fora a few hours). I was visiting the parents in Boston and we went here for lunch. usually I am skeptical of pan-asian places that do multiple cuisines, often with mediocre results, but Pho Basil was fantastic, fresh, and very affordable. I skipped the lunch specials and went for the noodles, which looked more interesting. I ordered the Kao Soi noodles, since I rarely see this in the US and I enjoyed it in Chiang Ma and northern Thailand. I was totally blown away - first of all, the noodles were beautiful - unexpectedly colorful and artistically presented. There were tons of noodles, the curry sauce was flavorful and spicy, and there were generous chunks of fried chicken. Maybe it wasn't the most traditional version but I daresay it may be better than the best kao soi i had in Thailand. I would return just for this dish alone! read more

I have the great good fortune of living nearby Pho Basil and come here about twice a week. I've never ordered anything that was less than amazing. My favorites are the Drunken Noodle with tofu, the Red Curry with chicken, and the Lemongrass Vermicelli with chicken, but everything is great, the staff is friendly, and the prices are low. There is usually a wait, but the turnover is pretty fast, and it's worth waiting for! read more

By far the worst quality pho I've eaten. Tasteless and smells very odd. I would definitely not recommend this to other people. Also the staff is very unorganized. After we asked for the check, the waiter came and dropped off the receipt. Two minutes later a different waitress took the check. After five minutes of waiting, the original waiter seemed to have forgotten that he had ever given us a check, and printed out another one and gave it to us AGAIN! WOW! I can't even begin to describe the horrors I had to deal with at this establishment. I would call it a restaurant, but a restaurant requires at least a mediocre level of service. This didn't even come close to that. We arrived at this establishment, and were told that the wait would be less than 30 minutes. 45 minutes later, we had still not been seated, with no sort of update from the waitress. Finally, when we got seated, it took them another 15 minutes to bring out water. We thought all the hardship would be behind us, but clearly we were horribly mistaken. The waiter brought out the entree's one by one, spanning over 30 minutes between the time the first entree in our party was served to the time the last entree in our party was served. This is simply unacceptable. How does the management expect it's patrons to eat when not everyone at a table has gotten their food? Especially when it takes this long to get food out. After the meal, they refused to split the check until one of our party members went to the desk and helped them split the check. Finally, when separate checks were issued, the management refused to bill on 6 separate cards. Instead they insisted on us splitting a 6 party check between 4 members and then proceeded to bill each check to the wrong card, even though we had specifically split them up in a manner showing which card needs to be billed. Additionally, they charged an automatic 18% gratuity on our check when in all honesty, they didn't deserve even 1%. We were also not previously told about this 18% gratuity. Bottom line: This establish has some of the worst service in the food industry, and I would recommend you go literally anywhere else but this establishment. read more

They acted like they had no idea what they were doing, and would not let you split the check because they didn't want to take the 30 cent service cost or whatever.
