Okay, so here's the skinny on the pho in Chico: We have one true pho place in Chico. One. So for those of you living in places that have a high population of Vietnamese, please remember that Chico is about 80% caucasian, and we don't do pho. So I guess what I am getting to is this: before you judge our pho by YOUR neighborhood's standards, remember that we aren't judging how you drink or produce Super Bowl-winning quarterback by OUR standards With that out of the way: C & C Pho is good. Not great, just good. Part of it is because there is a bit of a strange "undersmell" a couple of different times I have gone in. That has a tendency to kill my appetite. Is it the best pho I have ever had? No. (That would go to a place in Chinatown of NYC, I have no idea what it's name was, but I hope it knows I dream about it fondly and often. Sunflower Restaurant in San Francisco was a distant second). But it is a relatively decent pho I can get in Chico. It is definitely out of the way, but it is better than driving to Fremont or into the city to get a bowl of pho. Their Thai iced teas are very tasty. I can never eat a whole large bowl, so I always settle for a small bowl. I vacillate between the beef bowl and the tofu bowl, both are very tasty and filling. We also order the spring rolls, which are good, but I really don't like the pork they use, so I usually pull it out). Overall, it's a place my partner and I go to at least once a week. It's cheap, it's filling and it's the closest Chico's ever gotten to pho. read more

It's inexpensive and usually rather quiet. If I order in advance it's always ready when they say it will be and if I eat in they're usually out with my food in less than five minutes. Comparable to other pho places in town per menu and pricing. read more

The place was nearly full with happy, considerate diners. Pretty low key, and perfect for a Saturday night out without waiting forever to go somewhere busy and crowded. 5. Everytime I feel sick, pho is the first thing I go for. The combination of the spices and the peppers and the basil and the broth do wonders for whatever ailment you might be feeling. 6. My favorite pho place is in Oakland, CA but this is not bad and pretty amazing for Chico fare! Good service and a friendly and clean atmosphere. :) The broth is amazing! I always order shrimp pho w/ beef broth which I had here. The shrimp was perfectly cooked and fresh. My only complaint was that the noodles were a bit chewy, and I'm not sure if that is a result of under or over cooking, but they were not as good as my regular pho place. We also had their version of pot stickers for an appetizer and they were good but a little oily. Nothing a napkin didn't fix, but still a bit of a hassle. Will be back here for sure, pho is a great cure for a winter cold and amazing comfort food. read more

Pho C&C is good pho at a good price. I haven't tried much else on their menu - come here for the pho. Their ingredients have always been fresh and their restaurant is very clean. It isn't an upscale place by any means, but nice for what you would expect from a quick place to grab lunch. The service has always been good and their portion sizes are generous. I would recommend them if you're looking for good pho in the inexpensive price range. read more

First disclaimer: I am not a Vietnamese food afficiando. I am not Asian. I am not from San Francsico, so I have nothing to compare with. Second disclaimer: I like what I like, and if it tastes good, I will order it again. I have not had a lot of luck finding a bowl of pho in this town that is stellar. I have only been to Pho C&C and Sophia's, so I do not have much to compare it with. Having said that, I will say this: I like this little out of the way "hole-in-the-wall" place because it is obviously run by a family and is not a chain restaurant. I have always had great, friendly service, and for a very small chunk of change you can walk out feeling stuffed. Being someone of a gastronomic stick-in-the-mud, I normally order the chicken noodle bowl, even though I have to agree with a previous review, the meat is somewhat dry, even for being in a bowl of broth. Otherwise, lots of fresh veggies! The egg rolls are also something we enjoy splitting, although I prefer having them wrapped in Romaine lettuce as we were first introduced to them in West Africa... but hey, this isn't Africa. So ok, maybe this is not your top drawer 5-star SF Wharf Asian cuisine. So what? It's affordable, in a friendly, clean atmosphere. Obviously, I keep going back on a regular basis. Tried this place while in Chico for work. I ordered the pho tai and they only served me a half bowl. The broth was a little sweety for my taste but the noodles were cooked perfectly and the meat was high quality and tender. The service was fast and the waitress was friendly. I would come back, but I want to try the other Vietnamese restaurants first. read more

this isn't the best place to get pho in chico, but it's not the worst. it'll satisfy some of your cravings and hangovers. i had gotten their shrimp and pork spring rolls to start with. the rolls were faaaat, but the peanut sauce needed a little work. it would've been perfect if there was more peanut butter added to the sauce. i wasn't a fan of the meat they used in their pho. i had ordered their small lean steak. it was the smallest "small" i've ever seen, it was more like a kid's size. their steak wasn't the freshest. i asked for the raw steak on the side. once i put it into my pho broth, it got hard and chewy, not soft how it's supposed to be. the broth wasn't anything special, but it wasn't bland so i was okay with it. they don't add white onions to the pho, which was surprising. you have to ask for it and they'll slice some up for you! my boyfriend got their large steak and brisket pho. it seemed to be lacking a proper proportion of meat to noodles for a large bowl. :( the service was great, our server would check on us from time to time and even got us to go containers without asking. it definitely beats everyday vietnamese by a landslide, but i would choose pho le over here any day. read more

I love Pho C&C! One of my favorite cheap eats in Chico. When I go here with my boyfriend, we can leave here stuffed, still have leftovers, and only pay $8.00 for the lot. The soup itself is simple, but delicious. I love to add the lime, basil, and cilantro to the soup. Really boosts the flavor! The spring rolls and the Thai Iced Tea are a couple of my other favorites. Fooooood is so amazing but One bad apple spoils the bunch ! We always dine in and today we decided to get it to go !! I had to drive alll the way back across town for my rice and noodles .. not the end of the world but when we came back the front girl Bree Ann or Reann was so rude ! Pho. Really good Pho. As the name on the door suggests, they have a great bowl of Pho. If you go during the off hours, you will most likely find quite a few Vietnamese people eating here. Service is excellent, ambiance is casual. Oh and helpful hint: unless you are really hungry, order a small. It is a meal in and of itself. The food at this place was delicious and affordable. Menu options are limited, but it helps because as a non-Vietnamese, I find the simplicity helpful as I don't have to be confused as to what is which, or who is who. My meal came out quick - I had some pho (Vietnamese style soup) and it was absolutely delicious - comparable to the Vietnamese food you'd get in the Bay Area and MUCH BETTER than their sister location on Mangrove. I was a bit dismayed, however, that the bathroom lights in the men's room did not work. I had to use the restroom in the dark. WTF!? Also, when I went to pay, I wrote in a tip, but afterward my guest informed me that she saw the male cook standing INSIDE the kitchen SMOKING A CIGARETTE. Had I known that, I would have not left a tip. So, just beware...I dunno if thats a reason not to go back, but I'm just calling them out! read more

Food is phenomenal. Love the pho and spring rolls. Also, priced cheap. However, the service was so-so. I'll be back only for takeout because the servers were not the best. We had to ask multiple times for to-go boxes and they wouldn't bring us our check. There were many loyal customers eating there at the time that we went. Not a fan of the food. Go there all the time because the husband loves it. The service is awesome. Great, nice young ladies always around to help. One of my favorite restaurants in town! The Pho is great. Not necessarily an authentic recipe, but It is good in it's own way. The other offerings are good as well, nothing to write home about, but always satisfying. The spring rolls are especially great. Good service, always friendly, and they've even made some last minute to-go orders for me on a number of occasions that put them a little passed closing time. Very kind. And the prices can't be beat! I personally find this to also be the best Thai Tea in town. But I've only had a couple others. If anyone knows of a better Thai Tea, please let me know, I would love to try it! read more

I have only had the pho here. It is the first and only place, so far, that I have eaten pho. The idea of adding bean sprouts, basil, hoisin sause, Siracha, and more to my taste is great! You can make it as spicy or not as you like. I have been told that is nothing compared to pho in the Bay Area. I am still impressed. It is perfect on a cold day. Service is hit or miss. When the young lady is serving it is second to none. My water is refilled before it empties, she asks how everything is going, and check arrives in a timely manner. Everyone else does not seem to care as much. My water is not refilled in a timely manner, sometimes never. The food is great, prepared quickly, and easy on the wallet. I definitely recommend this place, if it was not for the hit or miss service I would rate it a 5-star for sure. read more

I am in love with the shrimp spring rolls. They are delicious dipped in thier plumb sauce. (don't knock it til you try it). As for the noodle dishes, yes , as others have reviewed, they are a bit bland, but if you load them up with some of the available sauces, they are quite delicious. I say experiment a little, and see what you get. I love to dump plumb sauce and hot sauce in my noodles and give it a good mix. There is also a peanut sauce that gives it a nice taste too. I have no other experience with Pho, but I do try to eat at this place everytime I am in Chico. Their service was great. She was very quick to give us our drinks, take our order, and give us our food. However, I lowered the stars to 3 because I really disliked the taste of the soup. There Pho had a strong and distinct sweet flavor that I could not keep eating. I actually stopped halfway because I disliked it so much. The soup for the pho tai could of been more thick and more flavorful but thats me comparing to the big city markets such as LA san diego and san fran but for the fact that there is even pho in chico thats exciting, The pho was $8 bucks for a large bowl, cannot complain! By far the best Pho Chico has to offer, fresh ingredients and fast service! The portions are pretty big, at least for someone my size, I'm always stuffed at the end. They have really great spring rolls and egg rolls as well! Customer service is decent, sometimes you have to flag a server down but no big deal. I'm from Sacramento and I've been to a couple of other pho places in Chico; the pho here does not stand out from the other two pho places in town.The small pho is small - actually like kids size small so order the large and the large is not really a large more like a small. All Pho broth is made with beef. EVEN THEIR TOFU PHO IS MADE WITH BEEF BROTH! (Yuck!!!) They do not tell you this on the menu, so lucky for me I asked.
