Pad Thai, Gai Yang BBQ Chicken & Rice, Popcorn Chicken
    Aye K.

Got this place for take out and took it on a picnic. It was very convenient and delicious! They packaged it very securely. -Chicken pad thai noodles: flavorful, classic pad thai with a great taste. chicken was tender. probably my favorite dish. -Gai Yang BBQ chicken & rice: good flavor on chicken thighs but wish the meat was a bit more soft. I liked the side of pickled veggies. -Popcorn chicken: pretty crispy and tender. good size portion! Overall a great spot that I would get again.

    Popcorn chicken

I ordered the 3pc Hat Yai Chicken & Rice and Happy Hour special, which is popcorn chicken with a free drink. 3pc Hat Yai Chicken & Rice was good and the best thing that I tried that day. I would order it again. The popcorn chicken was only average. For the free drink I got a Thai iced tea; didn't taste any better than the mix you'd get at a milk tea store. I probably wouldn't order the popcorn chicken again; the fried chicken was much better. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There are a few tables in the store, and it wasn't that busy when I went in. It is well-lit, good for families.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There are also some tables available outside in the area between the buildings.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Ordering is done with a screen but service was fine; they call your name when your order is ready to be picked up at the counter. Parking at that shopping center can be a pain; at 4 pm on a Friday there were still some spots in that back area near Roost and Roast. I would like to try the curry dishes and the wok dishes at some point.

Massaman curry with jasmine rice, pad thai, papaya salad

Wow, what an upgrade this place has received! After moving to the larger spot two doors over (I wonder what happened to the clam chowder place that was meant to open?), it's expanded from being a humble fried chicken shop to serving up the whole complement of basic Thai dishes. The papaya salad is great, the Pad Thai is also lovely, and the massaman curry was interesting (meatballs?!) although probably too sweet for my liking. Unfortunately, serving dishes up in takeaway containers definitely reduced my enjoyment of the dishes. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I hope they have the space to add a dishwasher to their new location: it would improve things markably.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The tables are also a bit bigger than they need to be, and I think smaller tables would add to the amount of interior seating as well as improve the atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Located in Town and Country, parking is plentiful but availability is limited. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The interior is nice and minimal.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Noise level was quiet and kept to a minimum.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Pineapple curry (3/5): The peppers were a bit too soft and overwhelming. I also felt like there wasn't enough tofu and pineapple. However the flavor was really killing it with this one. Tap to pay is accepted. Overall, Roost and Roast has some good food. The amount of ingredients could be a bit more. However the flavor was really good.

Food here is delicious and good value. It has a self order kiosk. Fast food service. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Nice to have some indoor seating at the restaurant when the outside area is full especially on a nice sunny day.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We ordered the 8 piece Hat Yai fried chicken, the chicken green curry and the Pad kra pow with pork. Curry comes with rice. It's a little on the sweet side. Very mild even though this is listed as a spicy curry. The pad kra Poe was very flavorful. Hat Yai chicken was crispy yet juicy and delicious.

We tried their delivery and it was efficient and the food was good. The grilled chicken meal light and healthy. The sweet an spicy sauce is more sweet than spicy. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We have also bought food and sat at the restaurant. It's fast casual vibe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have 2 tables out side to sit as well.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It's near Trader Joe's. Would def go back!

8.3.23- Roost & Roast- 3 pc Hat Yai Chicken & Rice

We were in the area and D1 is in town for the holidays so it was a definite must stop. We get to the original location only to find it replaced. Can you imagine our disappointment!!! OMG, we were both ready to cry. There is a small sign that they have moved 3 doors down. Thank the Lord!!!! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The new location is HUGE and has seating/ eating area! What a wonderful surprise. I think there's like 8-10 tables and even bar seating at the window! Wow![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I didn't get my usual hat Yai fried chicken bc d1 and I shared the Thai pop. Definitely not my favorite bc the hat Yai has so much flavor but I don't think i could have eaten a plate to myself. The toasted rice sauce definitely saved it. I also added the small side of curry and roti. The curry was very watery but had good flavor. And I'm not feeling the "new" roti. It was too crispy for my liking. I'm used to the soft and bendable texture of roti. This was crumbling as soon as I tore it or bent it to dip. Next time I'll stick with the hat Yai and just take the leftovers home.

This is one of my favorite places to go to for lunch in Town & Country Village. Roost & Roast is a Thai fusion restaurant that specializes in chicken. They are most popular for their Hat Yai-Style fried chicken which is quite unique. The hat yai fried chicken is very good and flavorful, it's fried perfectly and has a great batter. The batter is super crispy while the chicken itself remains very juicy and moist. Even though the fried chicken has great flavor on its own I find that when you pair it with the soy ginger vinegarette it just elevates the flavor. One of my favorite dishes is the Gai Yang BBQ Chicken and Rice. The chicken is marinated for 24 hours in soy, garlic, chilies and spices. It's so flavorful through and through as well as being super moist. It goes well with the rice, pickled daikon and cucumbers. I also really enjoy the roti and curry when I just want a quite bite. The roti is amazing, they give you 3 big pieces that are a little crispy on the outside but nice and chewy as well. The massaman curry is quite unique and pairs very well with the roti. I highly recommend trying this as well as the chicken dishes. I just love the uniqueness of this place and how flavorful the food is and will keep coming back.

Had ordered this for a work lunch and it came packaged nicely. I ordered the Gai Yang Bbq Chicken with R&R sauce. I added a lime and chili sauce. The food was good and the portions were large. I was only able to eat half and had the second half the next day for lunch. Flavors were good and it reheated well also. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Nice spot for a quick tasty lunch.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

    Chicken Pad Thai Noodles
    Renee L.

My friends and I stopped by for dinner and I ordered a chicken pad thai. I wish I got the chili with it to make it spicier but it was piping hot when we picked up our order. It also had tofu and raw beans sprouts. My friend ordered the lemongrass chicken with the soy ginger sauce. The chicken was tender and went well with the sauce. Our orders didn't take too long and ordering was through the kiosk. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There is no seating indoors so you can only get it to-go. There are seats outside if you want to try right after you get your order.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

    Hurjane V.

I've been here 2x now, both takeout. I thoroughly enjoy the meals I get here, the quality, quantity and freshness is solid. The fried chicken is SO delicious. The sauces are excellent. Service is so fast too! What a hidden gem. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They offer outdoor seating but I usually just grab and go to eat at a park instead.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] If they did catering, I would totally order from here!

2 pc Hat Yai Chicken & Side Papaya Salad and Roti to go
    Aimee W.

Popped in here for the first time on a late Saturday afternoon. It's one of many options in the center. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Space was open and clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It's a self serve counter to order - easy and efficient. I went with the two piece Hat Yai chicken which is made to order. Really enjoyed the crispness of the chicken balanced with the zingy and crunchy papaya salad. Worth a stop if your taste buds are craving Asian fusion.

tofu pad thai no egg (vegan)
    Grace X.

I had the vegetarian pad thai (made vegan with no egg) delivered for a work lunch. The food was amazing, very flavorful with a good mix of tofu and noodles and veggies. Portion size is decently large, good for 2 smallish meals. Most of the vegetarian dishes can be made vegan by removing egg, and this option is clearly labelled in the online ordering system. Highly recommend!

Owned by a winner of a reality cooking competition, it makes sense why it is priced at a premium, and with that follows pleasantly attentive service, innovative dishes, and comfy seating. I found the food to be generally pleasant, and the only thing that is unpleasant is their proximity to the train station that interrupts conversation on an intervalized basis. Old Siam - I see the vision of this luxury take on an old fashioned, which is flavorally accurate. I think the garnish is a bit too simple beyond the block ice to properly convey that look. Roti Mataba - Intriguing dish as I've never seen roti used to encapsulate before, but its smart as it creates a flaky exterior that pairs incredibly well with the curry sauce. Pad See Ew - Large portion of a classic dish that is served on the lighter side but still tasty. I would clean up on the presentation though. Mango Sticky Rice - Beautiful arrangement of mango sticky rice that shows great knife skills of the mango. You can see the heart shape starting to form of the sticky rice as well, which is beautiful. They were pretty one-note in flavor and felt underwhelming. The crab fried rice and Panang braised beef were both enjoyable, but neither dish was particularly memorable or something I'd go out of my way to order again. The braised beef itself was tender, but it was served in large chunks that didn't make for the most appetizing presentation. The Thai iced tea was also noticeably sweeter than what I'm used to, which may work for some people but wasn't my preference. One thing that stood out for the wrong reason was the pacing of the meal. Our crab fried rice arrived first, followed by the curry puffs, and then the Panang beef came out last. The timing felt disjointed, especially since you'd expect the appetizers to arrive before the entrées. The biggest issue, though, is the value. The prices are on the higher end for Thai food, and when the overall experience is just average, it's hard to justify the cost. Nothing was bad, but nothing really stood out either. Overall, it was an okay meal, but with so many great Thai restaurants around, I don't see myself coming back.

Since a few of them have never dined at Tamarine or it's been years, I recommended one of my favorite dishes to share, the Empress Rice. The garlic and ginger sticky rice topped with a sunny-side up egg and drizzled with sweet soy sauce is a must. They break the egg and mix it in table-side. We also ordered their garlic noodles which was also great. Traditionally other restaurants use lo mein noodles or thin spaghetti, but they use egg noodles here. You can taste that wok-tossed garlic, butter, and parmesan cheese flavor in the noodles. I think there was a hint of black pepper too. For the mains, the shaking beef is always a hit. The filet mignon beef cubes are so tender and cooked a perfect medium rare. It's served with a side of arugula salad. It was our first time trying their lemon grass sea bass and we all loved it. Since this was pan roasted there was this flavorful lemongrass and garlic crust on the fish! The service here is consistently friendly and attentive. Our waters were constantly refilled and empty dishes removed promptly. Even though there are many new restaurants in downtown Palo Alto, year after year, I keep coming back to Tamarine and have been for the last decade+!

Tamarine was pretty good, but honestly not amazing…read more For starters, we got the calamari, peach and burrata salad, and chicken wontons. For entrees, we had the red chicken curry and branzino ca nuong with pan-fried eggplant, jasmine rice, and coconut rice. For dessert, we tried the black sesame cheesecake, mango coconut tapioca, and banana beignets. They put a happy birthday sign on the cheesecake, which was cute, but just a heads-up, the birthday dessert was not free. The food was good overall, but nothing really stood out to me. Also, as someone who eats Vietnamese food quite often, I did not feel like any of the food was actually Vietnamese. The branzino came with nuoc cham, but that was pretty much it. Most of the menu felt more generally Asian-inspired than Vietnamese, which was disappointing. The service was just okay. The servers were nice, but not super friendly, and the whole interaction felt a little awkward. I also felt rushed throughout dinner because they kept asking if they could take our plates, even though we were clearly still eating and there was still food left. The restaurant definitely has a classy vibe, but to me it felt more like awkward classy. Overall, the food was decent, but between the service and the lack of Vietnamese flavors, I probably would not rush back.
